Shoes Shoes Shoes $25.00 Ross Giveaway

“What do women want? Shoes.”
Mimi Pond

Darlings, if we have learned anything from Cinderella, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, or Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, it is that shoes have a magical quality about them that can transform your life as easy as 1, 2, 3. Cafe Fashionista Book Club: Bunheads by Sophie Flack

"The time to read is any time: no apparatus, no appointment of time and place, is necessary. It is the only art which can be practised at any hour of the day or night, whenever the time and inclination comes, that is your time for reading; in joy or sorrow, health or illness."
Hollbrook Jackson

Welcome to book selection three of the Café Fashionista Book Club! Since we began in January, we have read Jennifer E. Smith’s The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and Meg Cabot’s Abandon. This month, in honor of the release of OPI’s collaboration with the New York City Ballet (and my undying obsession with ballerinas), I thought it would be a fabulous time to read Sophie Flack’s Bunheads.

Once a dancer with the New York City Ballet, Sophie Flack is now officially a YA author, and Bunheads is her debut novel.

As always, the rules remain the same…Throughout the month, you can come back to this original posting, and Discuss the current book club selection in the Comments section, sharing your thoughts on a character you love (or love to hate), memorable quotes or scenes in the book, and the like. Everything is very informal; but I think that it will be a blast, and I hope that you will all join in! Remember you do not have to participate each month - only when you have the time or feel compelled to.

Book Synopsis: On-stage beauty. Backstage drama.

As a dancer with the ultra-prestigious Manhattan Ballet Company, nineteen-year-old Hannah Ward juggles intense rehearsals, dazzling performances and complicated backstage relationships. Up until now, Hannah has happily devoted her entire life to ballet.

But when she meets a handsome musician named Jacob, Hannah's universe begins to change, and she must decide if she wants to compete against the other "bunheads" in the company for a star soloist spot or strike out on her own in the real world. Does she dare give up the gilded confines of the ballet for the freedoms of everyday life?

The title has been revealed, now it’s time to read and discuss!

Tightwad Tuesday: Giuseppe Zanotti Suede Platform Pumps for Pennies

Kitty cats, representing the left corner we have Giuseppe Zanotti’s saucy Suede Platform Pumps; in the right corner we have the ultra-haute Heart Soul Tami Pump in Royal Micro.

While Tami sports a slightly higher heel and platform than the glamorous Giuseppe’s; for a mere $69.95, in comparison to the $650.00 needed to snag the Zanotti Suede Platform Pumps, they are a chic compromise for the girl striving to stay stylish on a budget!

So mes chéris, what are you up to today? Will your AmEx take a beating with a splurge, or will you stay safe and thrifty with a frugal buy?

NOTD

1) To create this ombre / mixed mani look, I used three coats of Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Wild Shine Nail Color in Lavender Crème (the dark pink), and three coats of Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Wild Shine Nail Color in Tickled Pink. I then added one coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat on top of all colors for added shine and protection. Ring via Forever 21.
2) This was created using three coats of Mary Jo Matsumoto’s 4FREE Nail Color in Laguna Shimmer. I think this is really meant to be a top coat for a hint of shimmer to another nail color; however, I loved it so much that I decided to make it opaque by using multiple coats to create an icy glitter shade (that is far prettier in person BTW). I did not use a Top Coat for this look. Ring via unknown.
3) This look was created using three coats of Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Fast Dry Nail Color in Sagreena the Teenage Witch, topped with one coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat. Aside from Essie’s Mint Candy Apple (which I don’t consider to be a true green), this was my first encounter with green nail polish (purchased for the name, because I am a huge fan of Sabrina the Teenage Witch), but it has quickly grown to be one of my favorite colors. So, even if you don’t think you will like green polish, I highly recommend giving this color a try. Elephant Ring via Forever 21 – similar style here.
4) To create this lacquer look, I used three coats of Forever 21 Love & Beauty Magnetic Magenta Nail Polish in Fuchsia on all nails, then added one coat of Forever 21 Love & Beauty Blue Purple Glitter Nail Polish in Blue / Purple to the ring finger, and topped all fingers with one coat of Seche Vite Fast Try Top Coat to finish it off. House of Harlow 1960 14KT Horseshoe Stack Ring in Yellow Gold.

What nail color are you rocking for #ManicureMonday?

Sunday Steals: Christian Louboutin Pigalle Pointed Leather Flats for Pennies

Lovers, in the left corner we have the ever-pretty Pigalle Pointed Leather Flats from Christian Louboutin – the very same ones seen worn by Anne Hathaway and Kate Walsh; to the right take a peek at the versatile Viv Patent Flats in Black.

Though Viv lacks the signature red sole of the more pricey Louboutin’s; for just $188.00, in comparison to the $575.00 price tag of the precious Pigalle, they are every bit as essential for the working girl’s wardrobe – and make it possible to pick up a pair in multiple colors (Black, Neon Peach, Festival Green, and Bronzed Clay)!

Now the question remains…will you be thrifty, or suckered into putting on your spendthrift cap?

Pretty Little Lingerie

“It may not be something that you will see as obvious on the red carpet but (lingerie) is something that is very close to every woman.”
Sara Tervo

When it comes to fashion, one of the areas wherein a girl can truly go wild, and change her personality from day to day without anyone ever knowing, is in the lingerie department. Lingerie is a clandestine form of frippery that allows one to wear cream-colored satin corsets to the office when you’re feeling romantic; pink striped boyshorts to Sunday morning brunch with the girls when you’re feeling playful; and floral-bedecked bras for strolls in the park when you’re feeling feminine.

Provided the fact that we want a wide-array of options when we open our bureaus each morning to start our day, it is imperative that we find a retailer that offers a saucy selection of underthings at a price that is perfect for filling up our lingerie drawers without emptying our bank accounts. Matalan is such a shop.

Catering to looking chic underneath on the cheap, Matalan offers an extensive collection of bras, babydolls, underwear, and corsets in a variety of prints, colors, and textures (so that you can mix ‘n’ match from time to time) at prices that start at under $5 a piece. And for those of you ladies out there who are in the throes of wedding planning, you will be happy to know that there are budget-friendly bridal wear and special occasion pieces (I’m partial to the Kassi Basque in Cream) that start at less than $20 and will make you feel incredibly elegant and radiant on your big day!

Tell me, darlings…what type of lingerie makes you swoon?

Skin: A Kiss of Luxury

“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.”
Sydney J. Harris

Lazy Sunday mornings celebrated with chocolate-drizzled croissants, and piping hot cappuccinos; sick days spent burrowing under the covers with a good book, and the occasional bowl of hearty soup; last-minute brunch plans with your BFF to dish on relationship troubles or triumphs over morning Mimosas. Each of the aforementioned events is something that requires an ensemble that is equal parts comfortable and charming; a look that will keep us cozy for hours on end whilst ensuring that we look perfectly presentable should an ultra-adorbs acquaintance spring up out of nowhere. And one need not look further than my new favorite kiss of luxury…Skin.

Sporting the motto “Addressing the body,” the Skin collection, created by Susan Beischel (my new favorite person in the world BTW), is “…a line that cocoons women in the world’s most glorious garments. The perfect weights and shapes. The clothing you live in, to elevate the everyday.”

Featuring simplistic, yet utterly stylish aesthetics, in a variety of soft shades (the entire Spring 2012 Collection is inspired by beach pebbles), the Skin line ranges from Micro Fleece Wraps and Pleated Boyshort Panties to Ribbed Tunics and Tunic Dresses, all crafted out of super-soft materials such as pima cotton.

I was lucky enough to receive the Ribbed Tunic in Shadow (a charcoal/olive gray) at the start of a personal bout with the flu (of which I am still attempting to recover from), and I scarcely took it off – whether I was pairing it with leggings and boots for quick trips to the store, or simply wearing it around the house with American Apparel over-the-knee socks. The 100% pima cotton was the softest I have ever felt, and resulted in supreme comfort whenever I had it on, earning two (neon pink) thumbs up from this fashionista!

What piece from the collection will you choose to serve as your stylish second Skin?

Straight Stylin'

Darlings, it was Joan Crawford who once said, “I think that the most important thing a woman can have – next to talent, of course – is her hairdresser.” Though I nearly wholeheartedly agree with Ms. Crawford regarding this sentiment, I must admit that the hairdresser, in my opinion, is the second most important thing a woman can have. The first, mind you, is an incredible hair straightener – and I feel that I have found the absolute best flat iron in the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional 100% Pure Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron.

Unlike many other hair styling tools on the market, the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional (conveniently available at the Rylees store for you UK dwellers) relies upon the new advanced technology of 100% Pure Tourmaline Ceramic Plates, which allows the user to swiftly sweep the plates through one’s hair in one magnificent slide, without pulling or catching – an advancement not seen in any other hair straightener at this time.

Even better, however, is the fact that the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional is a multifaceted weapon for your follicles, allowing you to toss out the other tools you turn to in order to tame your mane, and replace them with this single styler. How so, you ask? Aside from being a flat iron that delivers sleek, straight tresses, the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional acts as a curling iron, so you can create anything you dream up – from a flip or beachy waves to très chic curls!

Now only one question remains…what hairstyle will you create using your Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional 100% Pure Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron? And, of course, which color will you select – Pink, Black, or White?

Rebecca Minkoff ♥ mark Delight Bag Review

mark is my beauty go-to. My handbag is full of their Juice Gems and Glow Baby Glow Luxe Hook Up Lip Gloss; and I rarely leave the house without their Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Surreal adorning my eyes. Rebecca Minkoff is one of my designer obsessions. Since discovering her Mini Nikki Hobos and Mini MAC Clutches (not to mention the Studded Affair, Cory Coin Wallets, and Sweetie Mini Bag), no other handbag designer has had the ability to tear me away from my Minkoff devotion (as evident by the six Mini Nikki Hobos in constant rotation in my wardrobe). Obsession confessed, I will admit that prices can be a bit steep for the decadent designs RM rolls out; thus the reason I was positively thrilled to learn of the Rebecca Minkoff ♥ mark collaboration, which has brought the delicious Delight Bag (Retail Price: $60.00) into my life.

Like Jason Wu for Target, Versace for H&M, and Rory Beca for Forever 21 before her, Rebecca Minkoff has created the Delight Bag (Straight from Fashion Week!) specifically for mark girls that, in my opinion, combines the elements of three of her most phenomenal designs: the Affair (size), the Sweetie Mini (studs), and the Mini MAC (chain strap) – a conglomeration of chic that is essential for the fashion-forward girl on a budget!

FIRST THOUGHTS:
You never know what to expect with collabs, especially once you’ve had experience with a designer’s higher-priced products, but the Delight was one of the best I have ever encountered. From the moment I removed it from its packaging I had to note three things:
♥ The color is a very rich noir that is incredibly sleek and smooth to the touch. ♥
♥ Despite being constructed out of faux leather, it looks and feels real – right down to the soft, buttery texture. ♥
♥ As is a Rebecca Minkoff signature, the Delight features an interior Key Clip and 3-Pockets for easy organization (just like her originals).♥

POSITIVES:
♥ Lightweight. ♥
♥ Adjustable strap so you can wear it as a long shoulder bag, short shoulder bag, or crossbody. ♥
♥ Chain Strap + Stud Detailing + Buckle Detailing = Edgy Yet Sophisticated. ♥
♥ Interior Key Clip, 2-Slip Pockets, and 1 Zippered Pocket for Simple Organization and Access to your essentials. ♥
♥ Ultra-affordable price ($60.00) from one of fashion’s biggest names. ♥

FASHIONISTA VERDICT:
The Rebecca Minkoff Delight Bag is, like the mark company itself, a piece for the everygirl - meaning, whether you can afford the higher-priced Minkoff bags or not, this carryall will make a Delight-ful (sorry, had to do it!) addition to your handbag collection. But make sure to buy two…one for you, and one for the everygirl in your life (sister, BFF, you name it)!
♥ 5 / 5 Hearts ♥

What do you think of the Rebecca Minkoff ♥ mark Delight Bag?

Fashionably yours!

♥ Fashionably Moi! ♥

Wearing: Mossimo Supply Co. Plaid Top in Blue Plaid via Target; Forever 21 Classic Slim Denim Pants in Denim Black; Sock Dreams Long Cuffable Scrunchable Socks in Natural; Nine West Magic in Cognac Leather; Forever 21 Rhinestone Three Finger Ring in Clear / Silver.

Reading: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

Glamourizing: Nails: Nicole by OPI Strike A Pose from the Kardashian Spring 2012 Kollection. (NOTE: The shade is going to be in heavy rotation for spring/summer pedicures – so gorg!). Lips: mark Glow Baby Glow Hook Up Lip Gloss in Peek-A-Boo. Eyes: mark I-mark Metallics Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Goldi Luxe.

Listening: How Will I Know by Whitney Houston. Love old-school Whitney. RIP to an incredible talent who left an unforgettable mark on the music world.

Adoring: Backpacks. Love the way the aesthetic invokes schoolyard style in a grow-up fashion. For sophistication, I vote Tory Burch’s Kailey Top Handle Backpack; for subtle edginess I favor Mimi Boutique’s Josh Studded Backpack; and for a splash of whimsy I covet Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Miss Marc Packables Backpack. Très adorbs, oui? CLARE VIVIER. The unfussy, yet incredibly fabulous shape of each piece she crafts, coupled with the bright color choices, make these charming carryalls a simple way to add cheery charm to whatever ensemble you may currently be donning. I’m partial to the Fold Over Clutch in Yellow and the Neon Stripe Flat Clutch in Brown / Pink. Gorgeous! Blazers in playful prints and colors that breathe new life into standard work-wear. Seriously digging Nanette Lepore’s First Dance Blazer in Deep Sea Multi, and Rebecca Minkoff’s Becky Jacket in Clambake. Aimer l'amour!

Watching: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My nephew and I have debated on this a bit, but I have come to the conclusion that Michelangelo is officially my favorite Ninja Turtle. And, of course, I’ll always want to be April O’Neil.

Desiring: Patterson J. Kincaid Welt Ribbon Crochet Short. There is something so romantic about a crocheted aesthetic – especially in a flaming, Fiery Red hue! J’adore! Hunter Boots Regent St. James Tall Rain Boots. Majorly obsédé with the asymmetrical shaft and equestrian-inspired style. These would look perfect coupled with cutoff denim shorts in the summer or black skinnies in the winter! Wildfox Wildfox White Label How The West Was Won Dress in Clean / White. Dying over this dress! How incredible is the lace construction, asymmetrical hemline, and feminine rose appliqué? Need!

Quoting: Paulo Coelho - “Life has many ways of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once.”

Awaiting: Hunter Original High Gloss ’11 in Orchid. After weeks of debating on a color I finally settled on the pastel Orchid; now the countdown for their arrival begins!

But enough about moi; let’s talk about…vous. Time to give me the lowdown on your life, lovers! What are you up to this week?

Tightwad Tuesday: ADAM Long Sleeve Striped Top for Less

My loves, in the left corner we have the luscious Long Sleeve Striped Top from ADAM; in the right corner feast your eyes on the beautiful Breton Stripe Top from Warehouse via ASOS.

Though the stripes on the wondrous Warehouse start higher up on the chest than those seen on the ADAM; for a mere $44.76, as opposed to the $195.00 needed to scoop up the ambrosial ADAM, it is the perfect piece for the fabulous fashionista looking to snag a nautical style for the summer – on a frugalista budget!

What’s your stand…will you splurge, or save?

Sunday Steals: T by Alexander Wang Knit Skirt for Less

Mon doux, courtesy of the charming CC of Couture Carrie, I bring you today’s Sunday Steals. To the left take a peek at T Alexander Wang’s colorful Knit Skirt; to the right prepare to swoon over Susana Monaco’s sassy Slim Skirt in Lemon Lime.

Though the Wang wonder is made up of 100% cotton, whereas the Monaco marvel is constructed out of a Jersey blend; for just $73.00, in comparison to the $143.00 needed to sneak the ambrosial Alexander into your wardrobe, it is the perfect way for the budget babe to add a pop of neon to her closet – without hitting the triple digits!

So mes chéris, what are you up to today? Will your AmEx take a beating with a splurge, or will you stay safe and thrifty with a frugal buy?
