mark Nail This Look Nail Color and Bracelet Set Review

I have had consistently amazing experiences with mark nail polish; so of course I was excited when mark sent me the latest nail duo for spring / summer. Even better? This season, mark has re-packaged their nail duos as the Nail This Look Nail Color and Bracelet Set - placing two complementary polish shades with a belt / equestrian-inspired bracelet so that you get a little bling to accompany your mani. Also pertinent...the packaging makes it perfect for gifting.

The two colors included in this duo are Pink Truffle {left} and Raspberry Framboise {right} - and yes...the shades and formulas are just as yummy as the names would have you believe.

Pink Truffle is a Dusty / Victorian Rose Cotton Candy Pink. This shade is so girly-meets-flirty. Considering how light this color looks in the bottle, I was expecting to need multiple coats. Wrong. Pink Truffle is opaque in 2 coats and just very rich and gummy looking. I love it. This is 2 coats.

NOTE: The studs used for this mani do not come in this set - or from mark. They are 3D Nail Art Silver Pyramid Studs that I purchased from Nordstrom.

Raspberry Framboise is a Raspberry Wine. This one is darker in real life than it appears in photographs; however, it still has that subtle neon undertone visible here. Perhaps it's just me; but I found that this color darkened slightly with wear. On day 1 it looked more like a very deep pink, but on day 2 it appeared more as a raspberry red. Either way it's vibrant and stunning - it makes me think of summertime picnics. Formula is incredible on this one - especially in terms of dry time {super fast}. This is 1 coat.

Do you have a favorite, or do you love them both?

NOTD: Ciaté Paint Pot in Pillow Fight

Two coats of Ciaté Paint Pot in Pillow Fight. Delicate Gray with Lilac Undertones.

I love a gray polish, and Pillow Fight has definitely become a new favorite {it doesn't hurt that the name is adorable}. In the bottle, the shade looks far darker than it appears on the nail; which was a happy surprise, as pale grays are my preference.

The first coat is streaky; but the color and opacity completely level out after the second coat is applied. In sunlight you will definitely see the presence of the lilac undertones, which add a little more dimension to the shade, and make it even more beautiful to look at. Really love this one!

This March, Nicole by OPI launches Roughles (“ruffles”) -- 4 new textured nail lacquers featuring speckled, pastel shades of purple, pink, turquoise and yellow. When the lacquer dries, Roughles lacquers reveal a unique pebbled finish. Roughles should be applied without a top coat to achieve a matte effect.

{beauty board} coral crush

coral
Blush is one of those beauty products that is typically used sparingly - a barely-there, whisper-thin layer dancing across the hollow of the cheek, and moving up towards the temple - to add a perfect, subtle flush to the face; but one of the things I love most for spring {which was perfectly represented at Dolce & Gabbana}? Coral cheeks. It's slightly punchier than your standard pink; but looks incredibly romantic when paired with a tight cat-eye and peachy-nude lips. Here are 5 of my favorite products for achieving the perfect spring-to-summer coral cheek:

coral 2
ONE: Maybelline in CORAL SHEEN {$7.49} TWO: DIOR in 676 CORAL CRUISE {$42.00} THREE: Josie Maran in CORAL {$22.00} FOUR: NARS in TORRID {$30.00} FIVE: Maybelline in CANDY CORAL {$7.99}

Cream blushes are perfect if you haven't had success with powder blushes; or you have dry skin or fine lines. Powder blushes tend to settle into the aforementioned; whereas cream blushes do not {thus, highly recommended}. I love Maybelline Master Glaze Glisten Blush Stick in Coral Sheen because it is super pigmented and blends easily; not to mention that it reminds me quite a bit of NARS' The Multiple in Portofino {at a far more affordable price}. Coral Sheen does have visible shimmer; so if you're not a shimmer fan, opt instead for Josie Maran's Argan Color Stick in Coral - which features all of the amazing things found in Maybelline's Master Glaze Glisten Blush Stick sans shimmer.

DIOR DiorBlush Vibrant Color Powder Blush in 676 Coral Cruise is one of the best everyday blushes I have encountered in a long time - it's very pigmented yet incredibly thin, so you wind up with a gorgeous, lightweight flush. If you're not a makeup brush hoarder, this is a great choice because it actually includes an angled brush that is fantastic for contouring. NARS Blush in Torrid is similar to 676 Coral Cruise; however, it contains very finely milled gold shimmer that adds a luminous finish. Personally, I love a hint of shimmer; but I know it's not everyone's favorite, so...

Like the cream blushes mentioned above, Maybelline's Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral is an amazing choice if you have dry skin or fine lines; plus it is one of the most awesome products on the market - reminiscent of Memory Foam in that, once you touch it, it retains the shape of your touch. Anyway...This product works best when applied with your fingers - using your ring finger or pinky to blend. If you want a truly natural-looking coral flush this is a must.

NOTD: Beautifully Disney Nail Polish in Provincial Mademoiselle

Three coats of Beautifully Disney Provincial Mademoiselle from the Unlock the Spell Collection Mini Set. Yellow Creme.

Disneyland Parks now have their own makeup collection known as Beautifully Disney - they include everything from eyeshadow palettes and blush to lip gloss and, my personal favorite, nail polish; all of which are inspired by Disney Characters - princesses and villains.

Provincial Mademoiselle was inspired by Belle of Beauty and the Beast, and the color could not be more perfect for her character. I'm not a huge fan of yellow polishes, but I actually like this one - it's more of a fall-esque yellow as opposed to a super-bright yellow. The formula here was a bit streaky, but very easy to work with.

If you don't live near a Disneyland or Walt DisneyWorld Resort, you can also view and purchase a {limited selection} of the Beautifully Disney Collection here.

Orly Blush 4pc Mini Kit Review

Last month I spotted the Orly Online Only Blush 4pc Mini Kit at Ulta when I was doing a little unnecessary shopping, and I thought ooh, that is the perfect collection to swatch for Valentine's Day! And here we are.

The full Blush Collection actually includes 6 creme and shimmer shades released for Spring / Summer 2014. Those shades include: Naked Canvas, Cheeky, First Blush, Dare to Bare, Classic Contours, and Flawless Flush. The two latter shades are not included in this quartet; but can be purchased in full-size bottles separately.

Naked Canvas is a Nude Creme with Iridescent Purple Shimmer. This is such a fun take on basic nude. In the shade, Naked Canvas looks like a milky-meets-nude creme; but then you go outdoors, or stand under fluorescent lighting and these gorgeous iridescent purple shimmer streaks appear {I only wish they were more discernible in these photographs}. It's a total shape-shifter in terms of color - over a period of two days I had the same person ask me what color nail polish I was wearing three. separate. times. It looked like a different shade each time she saw it! The formula is slightly thin, and can be streaky if you don't allow each coat to dry before moving onto the next. This is 3 coats.

Dare to Bare is a Taupe / Nude Creme. This shade was used on all of the models at the Spring / Summer 2014 Meadham Kirchhoff show at London Fashion Week. I find this shade to be incredibly similar to Deborah Lippmann's Modern Love in that, while a nude, there are dusty rose / mauve undertones that make it a very interesting, unexpected neutral. The formula was beautiful on this one - the perfect consistency and opacity. This is 3 coats {I likely could have gotten away with 2 coats}.

Cheeky is a Coral Creme with Gold Shimmer. China Glaze's Mimosa's Before Mani's is more peach in color and has less shimmer; CoverGirl's Bahama Mama leans more pink and is laced with silver shimmer. Pictures do not do this one justice. Cheeky is an orange-leaning coral with subtle neon tendencies. Cheeky's formula was nearly identical to Dare to Bare in terms of consistency; however, while Dare to Bare could have been perfected with 2 coats {I did, in the end, use 3}, that wasn't a possibility with Cheeky, as VNL was still quite apparent after the first two. This is 3 coats.

First Blush is a Neon Red / Hot Pink Creme. My favorite of the set! If you were to bottle Valentine's Day, I imagine it would look something like First Blush. This. Color. Is. Incredible. Looking at the bottle you think oh, another pink...great. Then you start applying it and it's just mind-blowing. Is it pink? Is it red? No! It's a neon mix of both! The formula here was similar to that of Naked Canvas - a little thin, yet manageable. Being a neon hybrid, it doesn't have as much natural shine as the rest of the colors in this quartet; but the stellar color more than makes up for that! This is 3 coats.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I'm not sure if Orly intended to make this mini quartet for Valentine's Day; but, the 4 colors included definitely make it feel like they did {the 2 colors excluded from this quartet - Classic Contours and Flawless Flush - fit more with a Spring theme as opposed to a VDay theme}, which only makes me love it more {I'm such a sucker for novelty beauty sets}.

I can do nothing but rave about this collection. While the formula was somewhat thin on most of the shades, it was not difficult to work with, and the end result for all was absolutely beautiful. Though this is technically a spring collection, Dare to Bare and Naked Canvas are year-round essentials due to their relation to the neutral family; and Cheeky and First Blush are such fun and flirty shades for summer {I can't wait to use them for pedicures!}.

Unexpected is the word that most accurately describes this mini collection. And I mean unexpected in a very, very, very good way. This is a collection that proves that you cannot judge a polish color by how it looks in the bottle. Each one of these shades had a special element {hidden shimmer, surprise undertones} mixed in that was undetectable until on the nail; but truly made all the difference in putting each shade in a class of its own. If Blush is any indication of what Orly has in store for the rest of 2014, I will definitely be buying it all.

Which one would you wear for Valentine's Day?

NOTD: Revlon Nail Enamel in Urban

One coat of Revlon Nail Enamel Urban from the Bubble Gum Days, Urban Nights Collection. Navy Blue.

I spotted Olivia Wilde wearing this nail shade in the Revlon adverts {rocking gorgeous golden locks btw} and knew I had to have it for two reasons: 1} the name...Urban - so vampy and cosmopolitan; 2} I have very few navy blue shades in my collection {ridic, right?}; and so I made it mine during an impromptu Ulta trip.

Perfect purchase. Urban is one of those elusive one coat wonders. It's opaque, self-leveling, and long-lasting after a single swipe. I found the formula to be fantastic in terms of depth/weight - not too thick; not too thin. This may be my new favorite navy. Highly recommended.

OPI Announces New Interactive Lookbook and Nail Art App Featuring Gwen Stefani!

OPI releases two new interactive digital platforms to support the launch of Gwen Stefani for OPI – a collaboration lookbook and an app. The lookbook is hosted at OPI.com/Gwen, where fans can follow the line’s journey from inspiration to execution. The lookbook contains an exclusive behind-the-scenes full-length video from the collection’s photo shoot, never-before-seen interviews with Gwen, and tutorials featuring nail art created by The Illustrated Nail’s Sophie Harris-Greenslade.

Gwen Stefani for OPI also introduces a new iPhone/iPad app where consumers can virtually create their own freehand nail art using the collection’s seven shades – Hey Baby, I Sing in Color, Love.Angel.Music.Baby., 4 in the Morning, In True Stefani Fashion, Push And Shove, Over & Over A-Gwen – along with Swarovski black crystals and silver, gold and pewter studs in bar, square, diamond and circle shapes. The app also includes a contest component, where users can create and submit nail looks for the chance to win weekly prizes through February 7.

OPI is excited to announce these two new digital components to enhance Gwen Stefani for OPI,” states Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Founder and Executive VP. “Collaborating with Gwen has been such a thrilling experience, and the lookbook provides consumers with a special glimpse into the partnership – from color development to product naming to shooting the campaign.

“The Gwen for OPI app is unlike any other nail art app available, allowing users to virtually paint their nails, add crystals and studs, and place the final look on a manicured hand – with no templates to curb creative direction,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “Gwen and I will hand-select three contest winners each week, and we are really looking forward to seeing what users create.”

The Gwen Stefani for OPI lookbook can be accessed at opi.com/gwen. The iPhone/iPad app can be found through the App Store by searching Gwen for OPI or by following this link: bit.ly/GwenApp. For more information, please call 800-341-9999 or visit www.opi.com. 5 beauty products I would buy again {part 6}

Read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5 of this series.

part 6

{1} NYX Blush in Pinched {$5.00} I love the NYX Powder Blush line as a whole, as the pigmentation is incredible for the price point, and very comparable to higher-priced brands {NARS and MAC, I'm looking at you}; but my everyday go-to is Pinched. The shimmery golden peach pink adds the perfect glow; plus, it's a super affordable dupe of NARS Blush in Orgasm.

{2} Maybelline Color Sensational Color Whisper Lipcolor in Lust for Blush {$7.49} I love a nude lip, and to achieve my perfect one I've been using Lust for Blush nonstop. The color is a your-lips-but-better nude-meets-pink that virtually works with any makeup look; but, unlike many lipsticks it doesn't feel drying. It's a super moisturizing / hydrating balm that is gorgeous worn alone, but also looks stunning layered - I use it as underwear for Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in Pink Pop and Maybelline Color Sensational Color Whisper Lipcolor in Oh La Lilac.

{3} YVES SAINT LAURENT Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll in Black {$30.00} Not too long ago I received a deluxe sample of YVES SAINT LAURENT Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll in Black from Sephora and, ladies, I think I've found my soul mate {lash mate?}. Initially I was iffy about the brush {it's one of those bendable / flexible rubber-type ones}, but ZOMG - the brush is one of the reasons why this mascara is so amazing. It separates, volumizes, defines, and lengthens; not to mention that it works wonders on the lower lashes. Forever in love.

{4} mark Angled Contour Eye Shadow Brush {$8.00} I am continually impressed with the quality of mark makeup brushes. Their Angled Kabuki Face Brush {which I raved about in November} remains one of my faves; but my latest brush crush is their Angled Contour Eye Shadow Brush. This brush makes you feel like a makeup artist. The angle of the tip gets deep into the crease and truly contours the eye perfectly. Buying a backup of this baby!

{5} Julep Beauty Julep™ 'Essential' Cuticle Oil {$18.00} A lot of people here and on Instagram ask me how I keep my nails/cuticles so healthy...this is the answer. I have been using Julep™ 'Essential' Cuticle Oil for over a year, and I will never ever use anything else. This. Stuff. Works. I rub it all around my cuticles, and all over the nail itself two to three times per day. It nourishes like no other, and doesn't require unhealthy pushing back of cuticles. This is one of my most highly recommended beauty musts.

Alexander Wang Prisma Skeletal Backpack in Black + Marc by Marc Jacobs Triple Wrap Leather & Chain Bracelet in Black + OAK Cotton-Blend Poncho + Vince Ponte Pants in Black + Stuart Weitzman Nudist Single Band Sandals in Black + Orly Blush Nail Lacquer in Naked Canvas

Ditch the standard sweatshirt for a cotton-blend poncho that is equal parts chic and cozy. Ebony skinny pants and strappy heeled sandals up the comfy casual look up a notch; while a kitschy matte black knapsack adds a trendy, of the moment touch. A leather & chain wrap around the wrist is a simple way to subtly accessorize. Plus, it won't compete with your nearly nude polish {perfect for elongating fingers}.

L.A. Girl OMBRE Limited Edition Gradient Polish in Spring Fling Review

I am a huge fan of the ombre nail look, but have never tried it out myself because searching for corresponding colors can be incredibly time-consuming {especially when you own as many nail polish shades as I do}. Plus, I have never felt justified in spending $22.00 for the Ombre 5Pc Nail Set from The New Black {even though I really really really want it}. So when I spotted the L.A. Girl OMBRE Limited Edition Gradient Polish in Spring Fling at Walgreens after Christmas {it was a little over $2.00 - marked down from $5}, it was a no-brainer...I bought. Here are my thoughts:

Included in this set is: 5 individual mini nail polish shades {these range from a dark teal to a baby blue} and 1 mini bottle of top coat. I like to have the glittery accent on my ring finger, so I used the darkest shade on my pinkie, and the lightest shade on my thumb {if you prefer to have your accent on your index finger, you would simply reverse this}.

Color-wise Spring Fling is nearly identical to The New Black's Ombre 5-Piece Nail Polish Set in Wave. Formula-wise, I can't say, as I've never tried The New Black polish; but the shades contained within this set were fairly easy to work with.

I used 2 coats for the three darkest shades {the ones seen on my pinkie, middle finger, and index finger}; 4 coats were needed for the glitter shade; and 3 coats were used for the baby blue shade {thumb}.

Overall, I found the formula here to be good - especially for the three darkest shades. The glitter shade was buildable, and would definitely require less coats if you were using it over a base color {I wasn't}. My main problem was with the baby blue shade. Pastel polishes are notorious for having formula issues, but this one was very thin, runny, streaky, and insisted on pooling around my cuticles {as you can see in the above picture}. Not a deal-breaker, but something to keep in mind.

The top coat, in my opinion, didn't add as much shine as I would have liked; but that's just my personal preference. It did do the job of keeping chips and tip-wear at bay.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
This was my first time trying polish from L.A. Girl. Is it the best quality? Definitely not. In fact, I suspect that L.A. Girl is behind Forever 21's Love & Beauty Nail Polish, as I encountered the same issues with both. That said, at this price point I would definitely re-buy {and recommend} this set, as you can work around the {few} formula probs.

What do you think of the ombre nail trend?

february crush list!

There is no better time of year to swoon {after all, this is the season of romance}; thus, I bring you my February Crush List.

february

1. perfect flush blush I've only recently begun to dabble in the blush world, so I haven't found one singular color to stay true to; rather, I mix shades or switch back and forth between a few. For this reason, I have fallen in love with the Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush from Too Faced. Each one is a trio of complementary colors that can be worn solo, or swirled together for your perfect flush. Something About Berry is too dark for my light skintone; but Candy Glow and Peach Beach are heaven for my fair complexion.

2. off the shoulder There's something very off-duty casual-meets-sexy about a slouchy, off the shoulder top. I love the effortless fit and flow, and how they can be dressed up or down. Pair Free People's Story Teller Tee with cutoff denim once warmer weather arrives; or style Free People's Terry Sunnyside Hoodie with skinnies and boots for a saucy, rumpled look.

3. ear cuffs I'm admittedly late to the ear cuff party; but they have most definitely caught my eye recently. The fact that they give you that multi-pierced look is obviously a draw; but what makes them so appealing for me is their level of elegance. My top picks are Kismet by Milka's Wonder Ear Crawler, Bing Bang's Baguette Spike Ear Cuff, and Kismet by Milka's Left Honeycomb Ear Cuff.

4. spangled mermaid skirts Being a vertically challenged girl, I have no love for maxi skirts. That said, sequins. change. everything. I've had this outfit photo on my inspiration board for over a year now, and immediately thought of it when I spotted this Free People Sequins for Miles Maxi Skirt. Obsessed doesn't even begin to describe how much I love this skirt. Gorgeous, yes?

5. peep-toe booties Ordinarily my thoughts regarding peep-toe booties are along the lines of why bother? Perhaps I simply needed to find the perfect pair - these DV by Dolce Vita Marana Booties in Cafe and Nude are it. The buckle and perforated detailing keep them on trend without being too trendy; while the neutral hues make them ideal for winter-to-spring transitioning. I'd style them with cuffed skinnies and slouchy tops.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Twinkle Toes-ty

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Twinkle Toes-ty from the Bling in the New Year Holiday 2013 Collection is a mix of rose gold micro and chunky holographic glitter in a clear base.

Technically, this is a top coat; but I don't use glitter too often, so I wanted a truly opaque look. I found the formula to be slightly thick, but easy to work with. I did have to do some dabbing to get the glittery effect I was going for; but it was worth it. This is 2 coats layered over 2 coats of VS PINK Nail Paint in Never Too Bronzed {a gorgeous metallic rose gold foil}.
