NOTD: OPI Brazil Beach Sandies in What's a Little Rain Forest?

Two coats of OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer in What's a Little Rain Forest? is a Bright Blue with Turquoise Undertones.

This. Color. Is. Brilliant!

I'm never one to ignore a blue lacquer; but this one is even more spectacular than most due to the cerulean blue shade coupled with the shimmer running throughout. It's totally reminiscent of swimming pools and tropical destinations - in other words...the epitome of summer.

What's a Little Rain Forest? has an excellent formula. It's super smooth and very easy to work with; plus...it dries sparkly {and no one can resist that}.

Back in February, kensie was kind enough to allow me to choose one of their products for review. At the time, I was all about cute sleepwear, so the Fairisle Chilled Out Fleece Poncho {seen above} instantly caught my eye.

This piece has literally become my primary weekend essential {in addition to my go-to when I'm feeling under the weather}. The print is adorable; but what makes it so perfect is how cozy and warm it is - plus, it has a hood which I find irresistible. Granted, it fits my petite frame far differently than the model {both in width and length}; but, it remains absolutely adorable - and the ideal choice for lounging.

Now for the Giveaway Aspect...

mark Nail This Look Nail Color and Ring Set Review

There was a time when mark only released a handful of nail polish colors each year, which I always found incredibly disappointing, as their formulas are always fantastic. I am so glad that they have finally begun adding more lacquers to their product offerings. Case in point: in just 2 months they have released Pink Truffle and Raspberry Framboise in the Nail This Look Nail Color and Bracelet Set {which I swatched / reviewed here}; and now they've delivered the Nail This Look Nail Color and Ring Set - which contains a gorgeous adjustable turquoise ring and, in my personal opinion, two quintessential mani / pedi shades for summer. See for yourself!

Sunsation {left} and Sea Foam {right} are the two shades you will find in this duo. Spring Break / Summer Vacay-perfect, yes?

Sunsation is a Bright, Sunny Yellow. Every girl should have a yellow polish in her stash - even if yellow isn't one of her top picks. Sunsation just became mine. This is definitely a summer yellow {as opposed to a pastel-based spring yellow}. The formula is good. After taking pictures I noticed that it looked slightly patchy; but overall it gave nice coverage. I would recommend using 2 layers of base coat with this color. Yellows have a tendency to stain, so it's not a deal breaker. I only used 1 layer of base coat with Sunsation, and I did notice a little bit of staining after removal, so 2 layers should do the trick to avoid that. This is 2 coats.

Sea Foam is a True Jade. Sea Foam is like a shimmer-free version of one of the best nail colors ever - MILANI Dress Maker {which just so happens to be an exact dupe of Chanel Jade Le Vernis Nail Polish}. I. Love. This. Color. It has a very strong mermaid-like vibe to it that is so spot on for summer...I can't. The formula here is good - it's very user-friendly and lush, and never tried to pool in my cuticles {one of my biggest polish pet peeves}. This is 2 coats.

Sunsation or Sea Foam...which one are you coveting?

Distressed white denim skinnies and a slouchy white tank get a chic makeover when coupled with beige open-toe mules and subtly sparkly gold jewelry {I'm partial to cubic zirconia adorned bar studs and bar-detailed chain bracelets}. A shimmering nude pink shadow placed all over the eye {lids, inner corner, lower lashline, and crease} has a brightening effect; while layer upon layer of blackest black mascara creates a fabulous, fanned out fringe. Add a nude pink shimmer gloss to lips for a perfect pout, and you're ready to break a few hearts.

{beauty board} lush lashes

lashes
Mascara. It's one of those beauty necessities that we all need in our lives. A product that transforms our blah, bare lashes into hypnotic, eye-framing fringe in as little as 1...2...3 strokes. Here, 5 of my favorite products for scoring the lushest lashes {no falsies required}:

lashes 2
ONE: RIMMEL LONDON in EXTRA BLACK {$5.99} TWO: SEPHORA COLLECTION in BLACK {$22.00} THREE: BENEFIT COSMETICS in BLACK {$23.00} FOUR: GIVENCHY in 1 BLACK SATIN {$32.00} FIVE: Cover Girl in VERY BLACK 800 {$8.99}

If you want to be insanely impressed on a budget, RIMMEL LONDON ScandalEyes RetroGlam Mascara in Extra Black is. a. must. The brush takes a little bit of time to get used to, as it is a buxom, full-bodied, hourglass shape that is quite big; but...it results in big lashes. Lashes that are bold, defined, and fluttery. SEPHORA COLLECTION Upside Down Mascara in Black is ingenious if you love a multitude of lash looks. The clamp-like double brush allows you to focus on volume, length, lower-lash definition, or, if you're like me, a combination of all three. One thing to keep in mind...practice makes perfect. Getting used to working the dual-brush takes time; but it's worth it for the volume and curl it creates.

Being asked if you're wearing falsies {when you're not} is something that I, personally, find flattering - and that is the number one question I receive whenever I use BENEFIT COSMETICS They're Real! Mascara in Black. The domed tip is awesome, and really allows you to define each and every lash {regardless of how tiny}. Plus... it curls your lashes - and very few mascaras are capable of that.

There are many reasons to love GIVENCHY Noir Couture 4 in 1 Mascara in 1 Black Satin; the main being: you can rub your eyes while wearing, and it won't smudge or flake off. Yes. That nugget of amazingness aside...the formula here is fantastic. It's very buildable and lengthening; yet also adds incredible volume. If high-end beauty products are your thing; this one is stellar.

Long before I read an interview wherein Nina Dobrev stated 'I have one mascara that I use religiously and I refuse to try anything else, and if they discontinued it I would probably cry. Cover Girl lash blast, in the orange tube', Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Mascara in Very Black 800 was my favorite drugstore mascara; and it remains so to this day. Time and time again I return to this mascara as the quality is unbeatable - especially at this pricepoint. I love the brush, I love the pigmentation, and I love that it's comparable to high-end, designer mascaras.

NOTD: Ciaté Paint Pot in Baby Doll

Three coats of Ciaté Paint Pot in Baby Doll from the Dolls House Collection. Porcelain Matte Peach.

My camera wants to read this color as a neon; it's not.

Baby Doll is a gorgeous pastel peach that possesses that coveted bright-yet-pale combination making it just as perfect for summer as it is for spring. It reminds me quite a bit of one of my all-time favorite polishes: Sinful Colors Poudre - only in matte form.

Baby Doll was slightly more difficult to work with than Ciaté Paper Doll. While it wasn't sheer; it was a bit patchy, and harder to even out due to the fact that it dries so quickly {as you can see on my pointer finger, because of the fast dry time, the polish dragged and clumped a bit}. I still found the color to be beautiful; but would recommend doing each coat as quickly as possible to avoid dragging.

This week in fashion has been bittersweet. First we lost a very talented woman, L'Wren Scott. Then the end of a particularly brutal Winter, Spring has officially begun. It's the changing of the guard, endings and beginnings, reminding us that nothing is forever. We have several links that challenge both old ideas (racism, sexism, both) and how to bring in the new (setting our Spring budget, getting to the gym, improving our diets) and even a nicely written post sympathizing with Fashion Blogger's significant others -- they have it so hard putting up with us!

amazing makeup brushes on a budget {tmart.com review}

All makeup brushes are not created equal.

Sometimes the bristles just don't feel right; others are scratchy and stiff; and oftentimes, the brush that one person loves is the very one that you loathe. Regardless of all of this; when TMart.com offered me the chance to review one of their products, I found myself continually drawn to the TMart Makeup Brushes - ultimately winding up with the 12pcs Professional Cosmetic Makeup Brush Set with Bag Purple.

Can we just take a minute to talk about how pretty this set is? Truth: One of the motivating factors that led me to choose this product for review was, indeed, the aesthetic. I'm a sucker for a cute presentation, and this one was gorgeous. Back to the brushes...

To be honest, I did not expect much from this set. Why? You get 12 brushes for $9.00. I have paid more than $9.00 for 1 brush; thus, needless to say, I was skeptical. I was also proven wrong - price does not always depict quality.

Of the 12 brushes included within this set {3 powder brushes; 2 eyeshadow brushes; 1 fan brush; 1 lip brush; 1 eyeliner brush; 1 eyelash brush; 1 eyebrow comb brush; 1 eyeshadow smudge brush; 1 oblique eyebrow brush}, I have used 8 of them multiple times {for the record, there is nothing wrong with the other four brushes; they simply aren't necessary for my makeup routine}.

These are the softest brushes I have ever tried; they literally feel like velvet when they touch your skin. What I found most amazing is that, even after washing these I have experienced zero shedding; and they never fell apart, or lost bristles {something that has occurred when I've washed higher-end / pricier brushes}. Not to mention that the roll-up case that this set arrives in is great for storage; but would also be perfect for travel - always a plus.

While this set was provided to me for review, I will definitely be purchasing more in the future, as the quality is incredible - especially at this price point. If you are a blogger and are interested in doing a review for this product, please contact: cheneyaustin82@yahoo.com.

neon pink & orange

pink & orange
Pastels may be the predominant front-runner for spring; and while they hold a {very} large space in my heart {and wardrobe}, I'm already looking towards summer and cheery, optimistic, spirit-lifting brights - like those seen in Nanette Lepore's Spring 2012 Collection. Though the can't-miss yellows, purples, and blues were stunning in their own right; my personal favorite combo was the neon pink and orange. Here, six fashion and beauty finds that fit that color scheme to a T. {Clockwise from Top Right}.

NOTD: Ciaté Paint Pot in Paper Doll

Two coats of Ciaté Paint Pot in Paper Doll from the Dolls House Collection. Porcelain Matte White.

This color right here? Ob-sessed {and not just because I received so. many. compliments. while wearing}.

Paper Doll is basically the best white polish I have ever used. In a way, the brightness of it makes it look as if you painted your nails with White-Out; yet it manages to be ridiculously chic and so attention-commanding. The formula is amazing. Typically, pastels and white polishes are an absolute pain to work with - streaky, sheer...Paper Doll doesn't suffer from any of that. The strokes are even and opaque; and the dry time is literally 45 seconds or less. This is the white polish to buy.

A note about porcelain finish: Porcelain finish is, essentially, a matte finish {which is how I am wearing Paper Doll here}. The problem with mattes is that, without the protection of a top coat, they do tend to chip very easily. If that's an issue for you, I recommend using a top coat to make this shade last longer. Yes, a top coat will do away with the unique matte finish; but it still leaves you with a gorgeous glossy white look.

OPI Glitter Off Peel-able Base Coat Allows for Glitter Nail Lacquer Removal in Seconds

Glitter On, Glitter Off!

Glitter Off by OPI is a new, peel-able base coat that allows for the quick and easy removal of nail lacquer when applied beneath any glitter or dark nail color. Glitter Off provides a base for quick one-step removal and protects natural nails, while simultaneously making nail colors brighter. Glitter Off is designed to leave nails polish-free and stain-free in seconds, revealing a clean nail surface without the use of lacquer remover.

“Women love glitter nail lacquer, which adds a glamorous element to any manicure. However, it can be difficult and frustrating to remove. Now OPI fans can fully embrace the glitter nail trend without the accompanying hassle. Simply brush on one thin layer of Glitter Off to bare nails, wait until it dries clear and then apply as many coats of glitter lacquer as needed to get the desired look,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP. “Glitter Off is designed to last for a few days, allowing for glitter shades to be changed frequently or worn just for a special occasion or night out. It’s so easy to use – and when it’s time to remove it, peel!”

To remove, use a cuticle stick to gently push and peel the glitter lacquer off the nail. No nail polish remover is necessary for this final step.

Glitter Off features OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. Glitter Off will be available March 2014, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail.

Ciaté Mini Mani Month Set Review {Part 2}

Last month I reviewed / swatched Part 1 of the Ciaté Mini Mani Month Set; and today I am covering Part 2, which includes 4 creme colors; 1 sheer shade; and 3 nail effects. The colors in this installment have a little something for every taste - whether you prefer brights or neutrals; and includes one of my completely unexpected favorite color/effects combos to date {I think you'll like it too}.

Candy Floss {Day 9} + Caviar Pearls Cupids Arrow {Day 23}

Candy Floss is a Bubblegum Pink Creme. I've been swatching so many pink shades lately that I feel like I'm pinked out. That said, I'm a big fan of Candy Floss. It reminds me a bit of Essie's Cascade Cool in that, in shade, subtle lavender undertones show up. The formula here was good. With a heavy hand, this could probably be a one coater. This is 2 coats.

Caviar Pearls Cupids Arrow is one of the Effects Paint Pots, consisting of Lilac, Rose, and Mauve Pearls. Out of all of the Caviar Pearl combos featured in this set I was most excited for this one; but...they weren't crazy about me. Translation? They started falling off almost immediately after application {even with top coat}, something that didn't occur with the other caviar pearls I used from this set. In hindsight, I realize that I didn't push them down onto the nail before applying top coat, so that's my error. Let that be a lesson: Pour them onto the nail; push them down firmly; then apply top coat.

Pillow Fight {Day 10}

Pillow Fight is a Delicate Gray with Lilac Undertones. In the bottle, the shade looks far darker than it appears on the nail; which was a happy surprise, as pale grays are my preference. The first coat is streaky; but the color and opacity completely level out after the second coat is applied. In sunlight you will definitely see the presence of the lilac undertones, which add a little more dimension to the shade, and make it even more beautiful to look at. Really love this one! This is 2 coats.

Pepperminty {Day 11} + Glitter Twinkle Toes {Day 15}

Pepperminty is a Dusty Mint / Seafoam Creme. I've said it time and time again...mint is, and forever will be, my favorite nail color. Pepperminty is no exception. While dustier and less bright than Essie's Mint Candy Apple; Pepperminty actually has a better formula. Mint Candy Apple is prone to streakiness when applying; Pepperminty isn't - such a rarity for a pastel. This is 2 coats.

Glitter Twinkle Toes is Loose Silver Glitter. The minute I saw this Effects Paint Pot I knew I would be pairing it with Pepperminty because I love a silver accent nail to complement a mint mani. As mentioned, this is loose glitter - you simply pour it over the nail after applying your desired polish shade, level, and apply top coat. This one is super sparkly {sadly not discernible in these pictures as the weather was overcast when I took them}; and would literally look gorgeous paired with any nail color. The downside? It's glitter, so it is insanely messy {as in, I wound up with glitter on my face, clothes...}; but, the prettiness more than makes up for it.

Caviar Pearls Metallic Gold {Day 12} + Members Only {Day 17}

Members Only is a Sheer Peachy / Nude Shimmer. Remember the unexpected favorite combo I mentioned? This is it. I'm not usually a fan of shades like this; but the subtle shimmer makes Members Only a sophisticated shade with a playful kick. The formula is fantastic - non-streaky, easy to work with, and completely buildable. If you have short nails, you can reach opacity in 3 coats; I have longer nails so it took me more. This is 5 coats.

Caviar Pearls Metallic Gold is a mini paint pot of caviar pearls in Yellow Gold. I hemmed and hawed over what shade to pair these with because, while a metallic, they are very yellow gold, and don't look great with every color. I do, however, love how they paired with Members Only. Like most caviar pearls effects, these aren't super long-lasting; but they are gorgeous for a special event. One thing to mention that I found slightly odd...when I was using top coat on these, the yellow gold color transferred to the brush, and removed some of the pigmentation from the gold pearls - dulling/tarnishing the color in spots. It's not something you would notice unless you were up close to the nail; but definitely worth mentioning.

Encore! {Day 13}

Encore! is a Burnt Orange. If you don't love a bright orange nail color {so hard to pull off sometimes}, Encore! is the perfect compromise. It's a warmer, burnt orange hue with rust undertones. This shade, to me, is the perfect representation of fall; and would be so stunning for Thanksgiving gatherings {yes, I am planning Thanksgiving manis in March}. Out of all of the Ciaté nail colors I have tried over the past two months, Encore! has had the best formula. It's thick, rich, and fully opaque in one coat.This is 1 coat.

Which one is your favorite?

VS COLLECTION Ankle-Wrap Wedge Sandal in Cognac + Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Quad in Chai Latte + COLLETTE BY COLLETTE DINNIGAN Cotton-Blend Lace Dress + Sole Society Skinny Adjustable Bangle in Rose Gold + Marc By Marc Jacobs Acrobat Ring in Oro + Jennifer Zeuner Jewelry Double Horn Lariat Necklace in Gold

Get back to basics with a sweet white babydoll dress coupled with ankle-wrap wedge sandals that bring the sass. A double horn lariat necklace is a little bit country; while a skinny bangle worn on the forearm is a little bit rock 'n' roll. Add a ring with flexible links for femininity; then swipe on coffee-hued neutral eyeshadow to create subtle smolder. Air-dried locks complete this utterly romantic look.

NOTD: Nicole By OPI Roughles Textured Nail Lacquer in Sand In My Shoe

Two coats of Nicole By OPI Roughles Textured Nail Lacquer in Sand In My Shoe is a Pastel Yellow with Red / Orange Flecks.

I just this minute realized what this shade reminds me of...deviled eggs. Can you see that likeness, or is it just me?

Yellow is not a favorite of mine in nail lacquers, but I like this one enough. It's not a shade that I would necessarily repeat wear; but the marbling of the pastel yellow and orange/red flecks is so unique and incredibly apropos for summer. The formula on this one is slightly thick; with the first coat being patchy, and the second leveling things out.

As this is a textured polish, I did not use top coat; but if you want a shiny finish you definitely could.

OPI Launches NEW Color Tinted Top Coats!

“A touch of color can change everything!”

This spring OPI takes nail color to the next level with revolutionary Sheer Tints, the brand’s first-ever, pigmented top coats. Sheer Tints by OPI offers a fresh take on traditional top coats with the introduction of four new vivid hues in Blue, Pink, Yellow and Purple. An infusion of transparent color with high shine, these top coats can be worn alone, with a base coat for a playful sheer or layered over any shade to create an alternate finish for a progressive nail look.

“Nail color is all about self-expression; apply Sheer Tints over your favorite OPI Nail Lacquer to achieve your dream shade, accent glitters and darks or transform crèmes and shimmers,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP. “Make a statement by creating an ombre design that is on-trend, then add several coats to create dimension.”

Sheer Tints by OPI includes the following hues:

I’m Never Amberrassed
Liquid amber morphs into a veneer of yellow tint that is anything but bashful.

Be Magentale with Me
Give your nails the sweet treatment with this sheer pink tint.

Don't Violet Me Down
You can count on this crystal sheer amethyst.

I Can Teal You Like Me
It’s obvious you’re head over teal in love with this sheer blue.

Sheer Tints features OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. Sheer Tints will be available March 2014, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.

her fashion box monthly subscription box review

I love a monthly subscription box {seriously now, who doesn't?}; so when Chelsea contacted me about the Australian-based Her Fashion Box, I was intrigued - and insanely eager to try it out.

Her Fashion Box uses customization to determine whether you are Trendy, Classic, or Feminine; they then tailor a monthly box for each subscriber, which features 4 - 5 beauty products and 3 fashion accessories.

The subscription fee is $39.95 per month {you can cancel at any time} and includes over $110 in products in each box. If $39.95 is too steep of a price, they offer The Boxette for $24.95 a month {which includes 2 fashion accessories + 2 beauty products. Today I am reviewing the full-size Her Fashion Box.

The photograph shown at the top of this post is an example of what your monthly box may contain. Mine featured the above.

Her Fashion Box Tiger Scarf / Shawl | Her Fashion Box Rose Gold ID Bracelet | Her Fashion Box Black and Gold Wrap Bracelet | Her Fashion Box Eyelash Curler | Her Fashion Box Clear with Metallic Trim Zippered Makeup Bag | Urban Rituelle Mango Milk Soothing Body Balm 1.5 fl oz {$5.80} | ModelCo Gel Eyeliner {$22.00} | Ulta3 Moisturizing Lipstick in Cherry Wine {$2.95}

As a self-professed cat lady, I am enamored with the tiger scarf / shawl - it immediately catches the eye, and really adds a special touch to basic blacks. The Rose Gold ID Bracelet and Black and Gold Chain Wrap Bracelet are beautiful jewelry pieces. What I love about them is that they are both adjustable - something I always seek when purchasing bracelets as I have a very, very, very small wrist. While I don't personally use eyelash curlers {my mom had a bad experience with one as a teenager}; I do love the looks of this one, and will keep it around - even if only for show. The handles are a neon orange that are excellent for gripping.

The beauty product aspect of my box was my favorite of all. I am known for my refusal to use anything but a clear bag for my makeup; so the fact that the one included with my box was Clear with Metallic Trim thrilled me to no end - that extra detailing put it in a class of it's own. Seriously.

I never leave the house without black eyeliner; and, given my excessive use of acetone nail polish removers, I constantly require a hardworking body lotion - thus, I am very excited to try both the Urban Rituelle Mango Milk Soothing Body Balm 1.5 fl oz and ModelCo Gel Eyeliner. The Ulta3 Moisturizing Lipstick in Cherry Wine, however, will be going to my sister, as she is the red lipstick wearer of the family.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
One of my pet peeves about the products contained within my Her Fashion Box is the fact that almost all of the products are no-name brands that simply say Her Fashion Box. If you remember my giuliana rancic fab fit fun {fff} vip fall box review last December; you may recall that I was able to price all of the products to determine that I had, indeed, received over $187.00 in products. You can't do that with Her Fashion Box, as so many of the products are their own, with no available pricing. Maybe this won't bother some subscribers; but if I'm paying $39.95 per month, I'd like to know the value of the contents of my box. Just saying. Nevertheless, I do love what I received.

Would you try Her Fashion Box?
