Colors, hues, and shades, oh my! In addition to the discussion of the 2016 Pantone colors and the who, what, where to wear them, shades of blush and black seem to have made it to the top of the honorary colors list. Now, perhaps it has to do with the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, but I was still loving all the color stories IFB bloggers were telling. Please continue to gear up for the holiday of love, and I’ll look forward to a few more love and color centric posts as the 14th of February nears.

Large or small, wardrobes can make or break getting ready for the day or a night out on the town. Read up on tips to building a capsule or classic wardrobe that will make you think twice the next time you are out shopping. Plus, reasons why and how to hold on to that leather coat. Also, a look back to a time before blogging, as well as services and point of views to consider in the business of blogging.

And proof that I must live under a rock surfaced when two fashion trends emerged that had yet to make it on my radar. Faux freckles and cape blazers. What?

playing with makeup {2B Colours review}

Primer: Primer Make-up Base | Concealer: Concealer Correcting Waterproof Stick in 01 PECHE | Liner: Eyeliner Rectractable Waterproof in BLACK 01 | Blush: Blush Cheek Pop in 04 | Shadow: My Eye Shadow in BLACK | Mascara: Mascara Colours Make A Difference in PRUNE | Lips: Hydrastick in ROSE

When 2B Colours sent me their Jeans Look Nail Polish in Black {which I swatched and reviewed last week}, they also included a selection of their other beauty products, which I was thrilled about, as their products are uber affordable, and completely new for me. After a few weeks of makeup play I can definitely say that I will be re-buying, and trying a few other items from them out because, truthfully, they slay - and I'm about to tell you why.

First up, the Hydrastick. You guys, this balm is holy grail territory for me. So many balms make moisturizing claims, but this one right here delivers crazy hydration and moisture. I would compare it to the type of moisture you would expect from slicking on Vaseline, with a lighter-weight feel, and less of that artificial taste. The ROSE color doesn't leave a tint behind on my lips, but it leaves a long-lasting shine that I really love, so I've actually been forgoing lipgloss at times in favor of this. This is probably my favorite product of all!

The powder products I received, Blush Cheek Pop in 04 and My Eye Shadow in BLACK, have incredible pigmentation. Both take a bit of work to blend out, not anything major, but go a long way once applied perfectly. For those of you who work with Black Eye Shadow, you know how difficult it is to find one with minimal fallout, and this one is it - I absolutely love it for a smoky eye.

My second favorite product from the bunch? The Mascara Colours Make A Difference! I received the shade PRUNE, which is this awesome burgundy/raisin hue that seriously makes my green eyes pop! I am amazed at the quality of this mascara. The brush is big, but plumps, volumizes, and lengthens lashes to give you that really wide-awake luxe look. This Mascara is available in 8 different colors and retails for $3.99 each, so if you're interested in trying colored mascara, this one is it!

While I loved the mascara, I wasn't as thrilled with the eye liner. I received the color BLACK {my go-to shade}, and while the texture was fab during application - going on smoothly and softly; it crumbled into clumps at times, hooking onto my lashes. The result? I had to comb the clumps out with an eyelash comb, which was kind of a pain. Le sigh. Upside: I did like the Concealer Correcting Waterproof Stick. I don't wear foundation, but occasionally I'll wind up with a spot that I need to hide away. The PECHE 01 shade was perfect for concealing on my fair skin.

Given the fact that I don't wear foundation, I tend to only wear eyeshadow primer; however, since 2B Colours sent along their Primer Make-Up Base, I thought I'd give it a shot. Personally, I loved the effect it had on my skin - giving it a matte finish and making my skin feel so soft. It also kept my blush and highlight looking flawless from morning til night. I definitely think I'll be using this one again - and recommending it to my sis!

Which of these products would you love to try?

NOTD: NYC New York Color In A Minute Nail Color in Sea of Diamonds

Two coats of NYC New York Color In A Minute Nail Color in Sea of Diamonds. Blue Jelly with Blue and Silver Glitter.

Pictures do not even begin to capture how incredibly gorgeous this color is, but so is life. Le sigh.

Sea of Diamonds is a non-negotiable essential for the months of December and January. The richness of the icy color paired with the depth created by the glitter is just OMG-worthy.

Overall, I found the formula to be v. user-friendly; though the formula did attempt to flood the cuticles a time or two, and is guilty of leaving VNL in its wake. Definitely tolerable though when you take into consideration just how exquisite this shade is. Sea of Diamonds indeed!

art deco {happiness boutique necklace review}

This review is long overdue, but a family emergency took me away for a bit. Things are on the mend now, and, as they say, better late than never, so allow me to introduce you to one of my current favorite accessories: the Art Deco Style Statement Necklace from Happiness Boutique!

It may look uber blingy, something that I typically shy away from, but there is simply some form of je ne sais quoi about this triple-layer piece that makes it ultra-wearable. Case in point: it's positively brilliant styled alongside slouchy chunky knits and denim {two of my favorite things}; yet never fails to work its magic when paired with sheer textures and cocktail-length aesthetics.

In the past week alone I've worn this beauty no less than five times, and it has drawn compliments during each. It's truly THE accessory to make your look! Fact.

How would you style the Art Deco Style Statement Necklace?

{beauty board} ditch the dark circles!

Tired of dark circles dragging you down? Ditch them for good in 3 simple steps!
eyes
PURIFY CLINIQUE Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil {$28.00} Fact: Broken capillaries caused by abrasive rubbing is one of the top causes of dark circles. Skip the harsh scrubbing by removing makeup and washing your face at night with an oil-based cleanser, like this one. It melts makeup, dirt, and all manner of ick away - no scouring necessary!

PLUMP RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream {$19.99} You know how your under eye area is often referred to as being crepe-like? That's because it's thin! Plump it up with an overnight retinol cream. It increases the production of collagen, thickening the skin, and making it less transparent. In other words: masking dark circles.

CALM GUERLAIN Abeille Royale Gold Eyetech Eye Sculpt Serum {$130.00} Water may do wonders for our bodies, but our eyes? Not so much. Overnight, water builds underneath your eyes, causing puffiness that spotlights dark circles. Using a brightening eye cream {cool metal tip applicator necessary!} each morning when you wake up is perfect for swatting swelling goodbye - making you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for the day ahead!

NOTD: 2B Colours Jeans Look Nail Polish in Black

Two coats of 2B COLOURS Jeans Look Nail Polish in Black. Black Texture with Silver Shimmer.

When I was applying this Jeans Look offering, I was definitely not expecting a textured finish; but, lo and behold, that's exactly what resulted: a sandpaper touch with the prettiest hint of silver shimmer to add to the whole denim vibe.

Formula here was fab {something I find to be universal across the texture polish board}. One coat was slightly sheer and patchy; but a second evened things out, and pumped up the pigmentation! Excited to try more from this Jeans Look line - especially for $1.99 a bottle!

essie Holiday Mini Nail Color Kit Swatches + Review

When Felicia of the blog Ellie sent me the Essie Holiday Mini Nail Color Kit for the great holiday blog swap, I was beside myself with excitement. One thing I've learned since opening the package? The colors are a million times prettier on the nail than they were in the bottle {and they were plenty pretty in the bottle!}. See for yourself!

Cocktail Bling is a Blue Gray Creme. This colour though...I love shades like this because they're so versatile depending on the lighting or what you're wearing. Is it lilac? Is it gray? Is it blue? Who knows, who cares - it's stunning. Flawless formula here. Cocktail Bling is perfectly opaque in two simple swipes, and an absolute essential for your collection! This is 2 coats.

Rock At the Top is a Yellow Gold Glitter in a Clear Base. Le sigh...there's something about a little gold glitter that seriously kicks any and all manis up a notch. Here, I'm wearing Rock At the Top over Sheer Beauty from the nails inc. x alice + olivia collab. The formula here is incredible. No dab and pat needed to score an even layer of glitter - just swipe and go! This is 1 coat.

Mind Your Mittens is a Sage Green meets Blue Gray Creme with Hidden Shimmer. Similar to Cocktail Bling, but definitely not the same, Mind Your Mittens leans more towards a dusty sage green and features super hidden shimmer that is virtually indiscernible {except in the bottle}. This one pairs beautifully with chunky knits. More flawlessness here - Mind Your Mittens applies like a breeze, and truly stands the test of time {I wore it for 6 days with only minimal tipwear}. This is 2 coats.

A-List is a Classic Red Creme. I'm in with the in crowd... I totally think of that song when I say the name of this polish - it just fits the whole A-List vibe so well. You guys, this color is gorgeous! It's one of those reds that features the whole classic feel while being slightly more vampy sue to the brick undertones. This one was almost a OCW, but left a few patches behind, so I opted for two. Love this shade! This is 2 coats.

AVAILABILITY: Target for the mini set; Beauty.com for individual bottles.

PRICE: $12.99 for the quartet; or buy individual bottles separately for $8.50 each.

NOTD: JULEP Nail Color in Candace

Two coats of JULEP Nail Color in Candace. Golden Chocolate Microglitter.

Le sigh. Isn't she breathtaking?

Candace reminds me quite a bit of Gold Goddess from the nails inc. alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Mini Nail Set, only it is less chunky and a bit darker.

This color is a total keeper - especially for fall, as it looks like melted chocolate on your fingernails with just the subtlest hint of golden olive undertones. Candace just misses being a OCW, as she's slightly patchy after one coat, and really requires a second to darken things up. Grab this one girls!

Is everybody ready? I’m not. You all seem to be on the ball. Several posts on how to start out the new year. Simple direction on what and where to start first, and on top of that list is cleaning out the closet. Others are reflecting on their 2015 fashion and making detailed plans for 2016. IFB Bloggers offered words of wisdom on the business of blogging as well as a subject to ponder, and a designer review that gives a slightly new spin on fashion forward.

With so much focus these days on being authentic, there sure is a lot of interest in faux fashion {interesting turn of events}. The current favorite trend is faux suede and fur… EVERYTHING. Also, athleisure wear, clever layering, and high pony tails paired with shoulder-scraping earrings, but not all those things together. At Least I hope not.

I thoroughly enjoyed the travel mixed with shopping destination posts. I would love to visit both places this year but am pretty certain they won’t be making that list.

So, I know that I want to read, make, learn, travel, and of course be healthier, but the details of each of those subjects are still a little bit fuzzy.

january crush list!

january 2016
1. drop earrings I have been all about high ponytails as of late, which has totally awakened this diehard l-o-v-e for shoulder-scraping, swishy drop earrings. Yes, they feel ultra-dressy, but I absolutely adore how they pair with denim and slouchy sweaters for those off-duty days. My top picks: BaubleBar's Tundra Drops, Lightning Rod Drops, Canopy Drops, and Cleo Drops. So divine, yes? It definitely doesn't hurt that they're all super affordable!

2. champagne eyes Confession: I am head-over-heels obsessed with sparkling, champagne shadows that bubble and fizz on your lids like whoa and look utterly captivating coupled with a thick, liquid leather cat eye. Currently I'm crushing on Giorgio Armani's Eyes To Kill Silk Eye Shadow in CHAMPAGNE {just look at the depth!}, NARS' Velvet Shadow Stick in GODDESS, and Urban Decay's Eyeshadow in SIN.

3. hyper-nude lips As a girl who is all about the eyes, I have always loved a good nude lip that gives you that your-lips-but-better look with a kick. Lately I've been living in ColourPop's Vice and Midi, but I'm dying to add Urban Decay's Sheer Revolution Lipstick in WALK OF SHAME, Too Faced's Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in MELTED SUGAR, and NARS' Pure Matte Lipstick in MADERE to my collection!

4. silver smoking slippers Admittedly, I am a total boot girl, but my love for Spencer's style on Pretty Little Liars has given me an appreciation for a few preppy touches. Case in point: smoking slippers. I lovelovelove the look of smoking slippers at the moment, especially paired with cuffed jeans, and when they're sparkly and silver? Even better! Sole Society's Cammila Pointed Toe Smoking Slipper in SILVER is my fave at the moment; though I'm definitely not immune to the adorableness that is Chiara Ferragni's Flirting Eyes Pointy Toe Flats in SILVER. Don't you just love them?!

links à la mode: the IFB weekly roundup {december 31, 2015 edition}

Desktop-001

My problem around the holiday season is that I run on such a last minute schedule that I don’t have time to prepare properly for that dinner, for that perfect outfit, for that just right decor. I dislike running around at the last minute fighting crowds, settling for the less than ideal, and paying premium prices for something I could have purchased on sale had time permitted. So, I’m following From the Soles Up lead by reviewing what steps I can take this year to accomplish things in 2016. Small steps that can become something big. First up, the Christmas sweater. Buy now for the right price, the best look, and standard shipping. Goals don’t have to be core shakers.

IFB bloggers were mostly interested in planning and selecting a New Year’s Eve outfit. As you should be, and it was unanimous. Whether you are going uptown, downtown, or relaxing on your living room couch, one should dress festive. Layers of black, bursts of color, hints of glitz, and just wow. Many were also rounding up the best of 2015 and planning ahead in anticipation to what this next year may bring. And reading between the lines of it all you pick up on some great business of blogging tips and advice.

More preparation, less procrastination, and… exuberant enjoyment of life. Joie de Vivre. I may just make that my motto for the coming year. Happy New Years!

NOTD: ZOYA PixieDust in Vespa

Four coats of ZOYA PixieDust in Vespa. Seafoam Green Texture with Light Silver Glitter.

Is it just me or does Vespa seem like a total essential for the first days of January?

This is my first time trying ZOYA's PixieDust, and I have to admit, I'm kind of in love. It's very reminiscent of OPI's Liquid Sand, with the exception of a shorter wear time {at least from my experience}.

Vespa is v sheer, so I really needed to layer it on to achieve opacity which, in my opinion, resulted in a very slow dry time, and fast tipwear. Those things aside, however, I really loved this one for its subtle yet sparkly look, and would definitely try another shade from this collection.
