Thrifty Thursday: Diane von Furstenberg Lace Top for Less

Kitty cats, I’ll be blunt. There are very few designers in the world of fashion who have the power to make me go completely gaga in the blink of an eye; whose mere creations can make me weak in the knees or produce butterflies in my teeny tiny tummy with little more than a quick glance. Diane von Furstenberg, however, is at the top of my list of individuals who can do just that. Her aesthetics are flirty and feminine; her creations are mysterious yet mind-blowing; her choice of everything from runway music to patterns is downright impossible to resist. Hence the reason I have fallen madly in love with her simple yet sophisticated Lace Top.

I’ve told you time and time again that I’m a sucker for lace; but the fashion in which this particular piece is styled and cut is positively prim, proper, and just the slightest bit devilish – perfect for those times when you must look completely polished for an event that is destined to be dull and boring; but just as easily transformed into a hot to trot top for those moments when you’re ready to leave your cares behind, slip on a pair of red-soled stilettos, and dance the night away!

Black three-quarter sleeves constructed entirely out of lace allow your porcelain skin to play peek-a-boo through the dainty cut-outs, and move upwards to meet a wide scoop neckline embellished with a gathered front which slides gracefully down to a scalloped trim hem. It’s a romantic piece with a vampy element of seduction that channels old-Hollywood glamour juxtaposed with the tantalizing traits of alluring undergarments.

Of course, as much as I love this versatile sliver of frippery, at $255.00, my nearing-the-negative-numbers bank account most certainly doesn’t. Non, my wallet much prefers the $49.00 Jennie & Marlis Lace Tunic, DVF look-alike.

While the Jennie & Marlis is devoid of the Victorian-inspired scalloped hem that finishes off the DVF piece; it does possess the same lacy arms and gathered scoopneck to add a splash of ladylike loveliness to your look with minimal effort. Besides, its affordable price tag may just let you splurge on a new pair of skinnies to pair with it!

Your turn loves…will you be thrifty or suckered into putting on your spendthrift cap?

Fashionably yours!

Thanks to Neiman Marcus and Dillards for the pictures.
