Tightwad Tuesday: Sass & Bide PVC Black Rats Leggings for Less

It was not too long ago that I literally loathed leggings. I was of the conviction that they were unflattering to one’s physique; that they created a stumpy silhouette, as opposed to an elegant etching. Dare I say it, I was wrong. Something drew me back to them time and time again. An incessant calling that made me scour the shop racks for textures, materials, and lengths that were more flattering and forgiving to one’s form. And then it happened. One day I simply had a fashion epiphany of sorts and came to the very clear conclusion that, as long as they hit the ankle as opposed to mid-calf, leggings can be fabulous! The moral of the story? I now wear them at least three times per week, and am completely obsessed with adding more to my collection – especially the sassy PVC Black Rats Leggings from sass & bide.

While the texture looks similar to that of the latex legging, the PVC Black Rats Leggings are not of the normal slim leg construction. Rather they are a tight fit, but come across almost like a regular leather pant as opposed to a spandex-crafted legging courtesy of the ruching about the ankles and waist, and glamorous embellishments found in both the inseams and the sides, which add that extra dash of volume and oomph to your look du jour! Coupled with a slouchy, oversized gray tee you look effortless for an afternoon of strolling through chic boutiques; paired with sky high heels and sequins you look enticing for an evening out with the girls. Despite the fact that they are tough and rugged in all of their glossy glory, they are also quite glamorous, if not completely out of my budget.

Ordinarily I would simply find a pair of standard liquid leggings; but darlings there is an element of empowerment in the aesthetic of these beauties. But alas, they are not meant to be a part of my world given the fact that they come attached to a $214.50 price tag. I should have expected nothing less given the fact that they are splendrous in every way, shape, and form; then again, so is AKIRA’s Rouched Liquid Legging – the only difference is that AKIRA’s offering is something I can actually afford.

Available in beatific black or stunning silver, at $59.00 a pair, the Rouched Liquid Legging offers everything that sass & bide’s beauties serve up – right down to the inseam embellishments and ornamenting around the ankle – at a price so friendly you can’t help but want to scoop one up in both colors!

Who are you kittens…a spendthrift or a tightwad?

Fashionably yours!

Thanks to My Wardrobe and AKIRA for the pictures.

  3. I love leggings a lot...I was just at Mango today looking at those shiny liquid leggings. I just didn't have a valid excuse to buy them. Now that I see your post, I'm having second thoughts, I think I have to go back to the store tomorrow.

Ikoy was ecstatic when he read your FB bday greetings. He was kinda star-struck when I told him that the greeting came from the US from one of my super favorite blogger. Next week, it'll be Speed's then the following week it'll be yours.

  13. I quite like to spend, which is really bad, because say if I had like £2, I'd make sure I spent it on some sweets or something, it's really in ways pathetic and inevitable.

I totally detest made out of polyester, which as you say end mid-calf, they look so tacky, and are not that flattering, but the likes of PVC, Latex and leather, they are totally different, and do add texture. I love them, got a pair myself, and will never look back haha.

  16. I can't imagine spending over $200 on a pair of leggings! A little over $50 sounds a lot better, but I still don't think I would be able to spend that much on leggings, but it is such a better deal!

  17. Both of them look great!

They remain me to the ones they have at Kenneth Cole which are very cool too.

  22. I have a great pair, and happen to be cheaper, looking exactly the same. I buy a lot of expensive clothes/bags/shoes... anything actually, but I would never buy a pair of high branded leggings!

    loves

  23. agreed with the previous commenter - for some reason i can't bring myself to buy high end leggings, even though they are practically the only form of pants i'll wear... so the AKIRA pair is perfect! There's a good chance they're going in my shopping cart right about now!

  24. These are worthy of getting me out of my AA liquid leggings although those are near and dear to my heart...I like the detail on these!

Good for NYC right? OMG OMG OMG.

  25. Great post. I love both of these, but I really love the rouched liquid leggings! I just bought my first pair of liguid leggings and can't wait to review them!

  26. Once again, E, we're on the same page! Only I haven't posted on the subject. Instead, I've been wearing them. But not shiny. My current object of obsessions are from American Apparel, and they're thermal underwear, basically. In black.

I bought them in one part of town because I realised I wasn't stopping at home before we went out, & wanted to get out of my ripped jeans. Contemplated shiny liquid ones, but they didn't feel right for me.

I've been on a roll for the past two weeks: black long sleeve tee, black leggings, black boots. Play around with the coat & gloves (mostly the fur leopard because I'm sending it back), but that's my current London uniform.

I thought leggings were so over, years ago, but they've got legs. And as long as the wear has remotely, reasonably healthy & fit ones, they're just so darn versatile: and comfortable.

Oh: to answer your question: tightwad. Absolutely!

    xoxo

  27. I would die without leggings in my wardrobe. I want leathery looking ones so bad! Just like these ones :)

Hopefully I can snag a pair soon - I'd totally go with the less expensive ones.

  28. My legs do not look good in leggings!

  29. These look cool but I know they wouldn't suit me...not quite my style. I love the non-shiny ones more!

  30. Oh, I love these leggings! I'm not a huge leggings fan (unfortunate grade 8 story, where I literally wore hideous leggings everyday. Which should not be spoken of..). But, I love these. The texture makes it way better than the regular liquid leggings. Something about it is very interesting!

I haven't been here for awhile; would you like to exchange links so it doesn't happen again? :)

  35. This is so crazy - I was JUST looking at a pair of liquid leggings TODAY!! Chick you read my mind, seriously.

The ones I were looking at are in the $30 range which works for me bc I might just wear them out so much I would have to buy another pair - LOL!!

And totally wish you were here to come with me on Friday, to the Eva Fall sale!!

    XOXO

  36. I was never into leggings before, but just recently got into them. I'm still not sure if I can make the leap to shiny disco like leggings, but your pretty finds are making me think twice about my hesitation!
