Thrifty Thursday: Theory Vesta Cotton Cash Cardigan on the Cheap

If there’s one thing that you should know about me my loves, it is that I will forever (and ever, and ever, and ever!) be a slave to cardigans. Never will I be able to muster up the courage or strength to pass one by while browsing the shops; nor will I find the power within to keep me from splurging on countless colors, styles, and cuts on a complete and utter whim. But I digress; it is truly not fair for the fashionable girl about town to stick to simple silhouettes when it comes to choosing sweaters that will keep her feeling cozy while looking completely chic all at once. One should have the option to discover embellished beauties brimming with personality; case in point Theory’s Vesta Cash Cotton Cardigan.

Please kitty cats, if it’s at all possible, quiet those jumbled thoughts whirring through your fashion-addled brain; I already know what you’re thinking…fringe embellishment is something to avoid in the style world – a look to steer clear of unless you are playing the role of flower-loving hippie for the afternoon. I feel that you are quite wrong! Yes, I will admit that fringes are something to toy with carefully when adorning one’s body; but in the case of the cardigan they are a wonderful addition to the comfy, cozy, curl-up-on-the-couch-and-spend-the-afternoon-reading-in-front-of-the-fireplace aesthetic.

Unlike bohemian fringing that covers the entirety of a design; the fringes ornamenting the Vesta Cash Cotton Cardigan retain a more elegant, understated presence given their tasseled contours, and the general angled hem of the open-front knit – two objectives which work together to make one look phenomenally sophisticated as opposed to sloppy in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I believe that the only true misstep darkening this midnight blue marvel is the $245.00 price tag attached to its lush cotton/cashmere blend; an expenditure which makes it downright impossible for me to so much as contemplate adding it to my collection. Hence the reason why I have set my sights on a slightly more affordable option in the form of Central Park West’s Fringed Cardigan.

While not as inexpensive as I’d like; at $138.00, the Fringed Cardigan is more than half the price of Theory’s tantalizingly timeless knit, and available in a pretty pepper hue – a shade that every girl should have lurking in her closet!

What’s your stand…will you splurge, or save?

Fashionably yours!

  13. I agree, cardigans are awesome. I say save on this one, though, since you said you love getting many different ones in different styles/ colors. If you go on the cheaper side with this, you'll be able to spend the money you save on other cute cardigans :)

  18. Now THIS is something I can get on board with. I sometimes feel like a member of The Cardigan Cult - I wear one every day, have them in my car, stuffed into my bag, pouring out of my wardrobe. When it was cool, I tied them round my waist and have even used an extra snugly one as a pillow!

I love the fringing - it kinda looks like a great big scarf. Hooray for cardigans!

  29. What great cardigans, dear! I am obsessed with fringe, but it's only one item at a time. I don't do the fringed booties with fringed purse, etc.
I saw your gorgeousness in the Style Sample! Congrats. That is awesome.
    Take care!
