There is something quite elegant about racerback tanks which float over your form as opposed to encasing one in folds of constricting material which make you look and feel like a stuffed sausage; an ethereal quality to their design that takes on the role of sassy sophisticate when styled alongside ebony cigarette pants and sky-high stilettos, or a teeny tiny pair of faux leather shorts coupled with suede over the knee boots.
While intended to be adorned with a glimmering gold design reminiscent of roughhewn yet sublime savory studs, I cannot help but feel that the brilliant Alexander Wang’s Silk Tank is more of a subtle salutation to the gaming world, highlighting the fact that gamers need not adhere to geeky forms of dress when armed with a controller. Quite the contrary, in fact, they can be downright glamorous!

Though lacking the sinewy silk texture; for a mere $22.80, the Bejeweled Woven Tunic is a tantalizing way to add a splash of Wang wonderment to your wardrobe, at a price that won’t wig out your struggling bank account!
Tell me, lovelies...is it your day to be a big spender and spring for Silk, or are you determined to be thrifty and go for Woven?
Fashionably yours!
Thanks to Nordstrom and Forever 21 for the pictures.

I have to go for the silky fabric, but wait for a sale =) I spent many years playing videogames also and Tetris was one of my favs on Gameboy and Nintendo. I hope you liked Super Mario Kart as well Erika =) I would love to race you, but I get Koopa Troopa! xoxo

Forever 21 it is!
ReplyDeleteReally love your blog!
Alexander Wang is so young, I guess I grew up in the noughties... But you found a great alternative, Erika, and this time I would certainly be thrifty!
ReplyDeleteThe F21 version looks exactly the same except for the fabric... it's my choice. You know I don't splurge in clothes... bags maybe yes. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou blog is so lovely. I came across you over the summer but stopped blogging for a few months to settle into college! You've inspired me to start again!
ReplyDeleteI grew up playing Tetris too! With only having brothers I grew up playing a decent amount of video games but Tetris was my favorite one! I could play it for hours! lol
ReplyDeleteI also remember how fun Donkey Kong and super mario were, but those were for super Nintendo, and I am such a dork! lol
Love the tops though!
I would love to go silk but woven may be what i can afford at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI love this top ! If i coulds buy it, I would wear it with a leather jacket
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the cut of Forever 21's better, so I'll cast my vote there!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you're so good at find these super close knock-offs! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThe resemblance is shocking! Great find, darling!

I'm so for tanks this time around especially! And loose flowing ones , teamed up and down with tight hot coats/jackets and leggings/jeans and accessories! Love the Vera Wang one but you got pretty close! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely blog! xo
I loved Tetris as a kid so much. The Alexander Wang top is divine. Its so gorgeous, but I'm going to be a tightwad this week and opt fot the forever 21 version!
ReplyDeleteI spent endless, endless hours on Tetris. SO addictive! Just thinking about that music makes me want to organise my furniture so each piece fits neatly inside the other! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually much prefer the Forever 21 tank. So pretty!
I had to chuckle with glee at the mention of Tetris! How I loved that game back in the day :o) My vote goes to the silk print top!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the luck!! I feel like the times you have commented, you have related a lot to what I have written, we're probably the same person lol. Its very interesting how you can relate a video game to that top. Some of the boxes even make the shapes of those blocks from the game haha
ReplyDeleteMy, they do look very similar!
ReplyDeleteTetris game music is in my head now
;)
I love how you found the correlation between the Wang top and tetris, I'm feeling a little nostalgic. I would go for the Forever 21 tank because sometimes, attitude and confidence makes a piece.
ReplyDeleteThat is a straight twin of the a. wang top. it's identical! Why even bother with the expensive stuff, right?
ReplyDeleteWoah these are literally like the exact same top! How do find this stuff?? You are so amazing!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lenore. Those look so very similar. U have a good eyes, Erika!
ReplyDelete:-)
You really do have an eye for spotting a couture-inspired bargain!
ReplyDeleteThis is actually really cute!! I love the cheaper version too. Yay! Siiigh I wish I had money to hit up F21!! :P
ReplyDeletelove this look!
ReplyDeleteI'm with the F21 buy :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love tetris! so addicting.
very nice alternative!
ReplyDeletethat is seriously a KILLER find! i neeeed it! haha ;P
ReplyDeleteinteresting print!
ReplyDeleteOh how pretty! The pattern sort of reminds me of Tetris...one of my favorite games!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so cold here I can't even think about a tank top!
ReplyDeleteI can't get over that name, Alexander Wang...
ReplyDeleteI do love Tetris as we all do! And even though the F21 top may not have the same one of a kind texture, they did a pretty amazing job of creating a similar shirt for a way cheaper price! Your blog is inspiring as always :)
ReplyDeleteXOXO, Nicole
You find the best stuff at f21. I get so freaked out in there sometimes...have you heard of the new one in Cerritos?! I keep hearing it's AMAZING and scary haha!
ReplyDeleteI love tetris. I definately go with the Wang, I like the print a lot more.
ReplyDeletei loved carrie's outfit too, and i was actually surprised because i didn't expect a big fashion statement from her for some reason. haha, i can't help but think about tetris every time i look at that tunic now.

Hi Erika, very interesting, the top pattern and Tetris... but you are so right, and a great post. Those tops are really stunning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words on my last post, you made my day...! Speaking of which, you certainly have a very special way with words, and I hope you consider becoming an author of fashion columns or maybe even your own novel... you have the talent.
Have a lovely fashionable day!
Colin.
teehee ... before I even read your post, my first thought was "Heeeey... that looks like a Tetris screen!" Haha.
ReplyDeleteI love both, but Heidi from The Hills wore the Wang!
ReplyDeleteI love silk but hey,the Bejeweled woven tunic looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteoh how i love the 90s! i like the faux studs on the forever 21 tunic!
ReplyDeletelol I never played Tetris. Maybe my childhood was incomplete?
ReplyDeletehi there!
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting my page. added a link to your blog so i can visit you more often, too :)
btw, the alexander wang silk tank looks lovely :)
♥ joei
The dude and silk do not mix. Ah ha ha
ReplyDeleteF21 for me this time... maybe if it were a dress i'd splurge, but i wear casual separates so rarely its hard to justify a splurge!
ReplyDeleteScore! totally want this!
ReplyDeleteBoth look great, but silk is so nice! Hope you are having a wonderful day, dear.
ReplyDeleteErika!! OMG!! IDENTICAL!!! seriously. wow.
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet comment! Your writing style is very impressive :)
Jen
Silk is soooo luscious against the skin...so I vote for LUSH!!
ReplyDeleteI heart racerbacks too!!!! I love the design on this one but would prefer a different color... Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteThe top is stunning, I like the texture if the silk fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning shirt, it looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteA great alternative to the A. Wang tank top! And as much as I love silk, the woven material may actually be more practical, considering you can't wash designer silk (not even hand wash or dryclean).
ReplyDeleteOh, and I used to be so addicted to Tetris ;-)
oh, how i love the top. I sure I won't be ab;e to resist bringing this home :)
ReplyDeleteThe bargain for sure!!! :) It looks like an elegant and still comfortable beautiful tank.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thank you so much for your recent comment, it means a lot to me! :)
xoxo
Rachel
Tatris, FTW! ;)
ReplyDeleteAlex Wang's collections are so always so painfully fabulous. And while a $250 tank is a tad above my budget, I'd love to get a similar pair. Thrifty, all the way! =)
Xx
Both are actually really cool... But I think Wang's silk is so much more chic. It really makes a difference.
ReplyDeletexx
Oh I ADORE this! As much as I love the silk, it's wayyy out of my prie range, so would have to settle for the woven copy

I'd love to own anything from A Wang!! :D
ReplyDeleteI choose Forever 21. Simply because I like it better. And it seems more feminine to me. But I'm thrifty through and through anyways. ha
ReplyDeleteI say go for the Alexander Wang piece because it's silk!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could go back to the 90's..in that silk tank.
ReplyDeleteoh man I used to be SUCH a tetris addict.
ReplyDeleteI neeeeed that tank!
ReplyDeletethat tank is so pretty x
ReplyDeleteOh how I remember the days of playing Tetris on that original GameBoy. Those things were massive compared to the new GameBoy systems. My how things have changed...
ReplyDeleteI actually love both of these tops. So how about I just take both? :)
Looove Forever 21 and this tank! :)
ReplyDeleteCute look.
Xoxo- Emily
Such a cute top! I love it. Would pair with skinny jeans and thigh high boots for a night out.
ReplyDeleteCheap one and alter it to have better shape? :)
ReplyDeleteI would never think to buy that, but the more I look at it the more I like it!
