Tightwad Tuesday: Nightcap Clothing Foldover Leggings for Less

All right, I confess! I’m guilty. Guilty of one of the biggest fashion faux pas currently plaguing the country at this very moment…wearing leggings as pants! It’s true. I’m one of the girls you see accoutered in sinewy skintight leggings coupled with sweaters that fall not below the derriere in the form of a tunic, but that hit directly at the hip.

My six dollar Target leggings have entirely displaced the denim in my wardrobe; but it’s time for things to change. The rude looks from random passersby gazing upon me as if I am prancing around pantsless has left me looking for a new way to embrace the resilience I love, in a form that is less controversial to the general public. Finally I have found it in the form of Nightcap Clothing’s Foldover Legging.

Kitty cats please, by all means, do not write these lovelies off before you have so much as given them a chance. There is nothing crude, distasteful, or argumentative about the design of the Foldover Legging. Far from it, in fact!

Unlike the typical legging aesthetic which falls from the hip to the ankle in a straight line reminiscent of your most beloved skinnies, the Foldover Legging features an extra-wide waistband that folds over, around your posterior, in the form of a miniskirt to give the illusion that you are not merely wearing leggings, but a skirt over pants, creating an entire ensemble for your bottom half in the form of one singular item.

But I digress; such a style, while the absolute crème de la crème of maintaining comfort in the most urbane of ways, is bogged down with a premium that is far from figure flattering.

Yes my loves, I understand that the Foldover Legging is quite a bit like a two-for-one deal, but at $117.00 a pair, it is far out of the budget realm of the single-digit stretchy saviors I currently call my own. Alloy’s Foldover Stretch Yoga Legging, however, is not.

While embellished with ruching along the waistline as opposed to the smooth skirt-like surface of Nightcap Clothing’s piece, for just $29.90, Alloy’s Foldover Stretch Yoga Legging is just as sensational as its more expensive counterpart; and gives you the chance to buy in three different colors – black, gray, or navy!

Is today the day for you to please the big spender within; or will you play it cool and be thrifty?

Fashionably yours!

Thanks to Singer22 and Alloy for the pictures.

  20. i try to veer away from that use-leggings-as-pants style. its a personal pet peeve though i don't mind seeing it on someone else. i just can't wear it that way for myself!

that's why this is such a good idea! i usually have tops not long enough to be worn with leggings (but they're just so comfortable so i try to find something else to wear underneath). with alloy's version, there's more no need to! i'll try to look for this now. online purchase if i need to! ;) thanks for sharing!

  23. Ooooh, a new way to wear leggings! Right now I'm thinking they look a little odd, but I'm sure I can be convinced!

  24. It's a great idea, but I'd like to see the skirt a little longer still, and maybe some with variations in skirt style. Boho, gypsy, that sort of thing. But I like the idea here promoting the right way to wear leggings.

  25. Those sound so cool. I have used long T's for this purpose with extra sweaters and stuff.

I was so happy the little girl I gave a hat to out of a T-shirt loved it...and wanted to sleep in it..her Mom told me.

Thanks so much for the comment too. Sorry if I made someone sound so 'heartless'. I think a lot of times, when we react to things..we can always be more selfish than we know.

  26. haha when it comes to clothes I tend to go cheaper cuz I end up staining it or bleeching it!!

  27. I have to admit it took me a while to get used to the look, but now I really like the leggings-ana-a-t-shirt look. And you've given us some great choices here. BTW, I've passed on a little award to you today, Erika, to show how much I love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You changed everything in your blog!!!! wow it looks great! congratulations... and I absolutely like this leggings!!!!

  29. "As if I am prancing around pantsless" Best. Quote. EVER!!

Seriously cracked me up. But leggings dont actually bother me plus youre thin enough to look great in them, just as long as you dont turn into the ladies in line at Walmart I think you're golden!

Honestly the trend totally getting under my skin right now, is HAREM PANTS! Not sure how big its hit in the States, but in France we have a large Arab population so there are a lot of the droopy crotch Aladdin pants. That plus the Harem pants is just too much for me...Plus I was blessed with nice curvy hips in other words means "Stay AWAY" is stamped across anything in that shape!

  55. Loving d fold-over leggings, excellent idea. It even covers d derriere well

  56. to me, these look just odd. if you're going to wear leggings as pants, just do it. who cares what other people say? they're probably unable to wear leggings as pants. so wear them while you have the figure - we used to do it in college in the 80s - before kids & such. not that a lot of don't have the figure...it's just that they're not really age appropriate, i think. so we just wear our workout clothes to show off our tight buns instead :) ha!

    ReplyDelete
  57. i haven't branched out to the foldover leggings yet but i like 'em. they are fabuloso!

    ReplyDelete
  58. love these. and i'm guilty of wearing my leggings as pants too... it's just so easy and COMFORTABLE.

  72. Ahaaa, now leggings, specially the skin tight ones, I prefer above pants anytime. And forget the rude looks, let them look, it is only jealousy... At least with leggings the shape of the leg can be admired... although it covers enough to hide the necessary.
    Great post, and wise choice.

Thanks for the very sweet and kind compliment on my last post, many will disagree with you, :-) but then, who cares. I appreciate your input, and hope to see you soon again.
    Have a lovely day Erika!

  75. I love leggings. The last time I had a pair on, I believe I was in the 8th grade, and my top was a New Kids on the Block tshirt with a belt. I loved that outfit.
I wish my body could pull them off now, these new ones are super cute!

  76. Very cool...liking the fold over leggings.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I love these! I would be ok with the less expensive of the two, I like the skirt part.

In the meantime, I'll just continue to wear a short skirt over my leggings...I have not been able to do the leggings without a longer shirt...I feel like I'm in dance class or something!

    ReplyDelete
  78. These are so much cooler than average leggings. I lve the miniskirt bit! But definitely too expensive!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ha, you are so funny but I am with you 100% I love leggings! I wear them too much but they are comfy and stylish. I have a million pairs but I will NOT be rocking the foldovers, lol.
