It's Your Wedding Day; Show Off Your Shoes!

Darlings, there is no denying that one’s wedding day is a time to ensure that you sparkle in all of your pre-wedding bliss; showering your many admirers with a glow that radiates from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, dispelling a certain je ne sais quoi about your person that makes those around you gasp in envy. But sometimes, the very thing that creates such a feeling is not the gown itself; rather, it is the sassy shoes upon one’s feet – the precise object that, quite frequently, goes unnoticed due to sweeping, floor-length frocks.

In the words of Levende Waters, “Funny that a pair of really nice shoes makes us feel good in our heads – at the extreme opposite end of our bodies.” Luckily for you, my loves, with the fall and winter 2010 trends of short hemlines for wedding dresses one has the opportunity to show off their fabulous shoes and glorious gams all at the very same time.

Non, non, non! Do not get me wrong; gowns that reach the ground are glamorous in their Old Hollywood way. But as someone who clocks in at a staggering five-foot-one in bare feet (and is also ever so slightly obsessed with shoes), I myself find that the shorter hemlines are far more figure flattering. Besides, there’s no question that the girls of Mad Men or Sex and the City would highly approve. After all, a trailing Galina Signature Organza A-Line Gown with Angled Draped Pick-Ups may make you feel like a modern version of Grace Kelly; but a knee-grazing Galina Short Dress Featuring 3D Floral Appliqués allows you to not only show off your flirty frock, but the High Heel Sandal with Rhinestone Anklet that you spent hours selecting, as well!

As the saying goes, “A pair of shoes can change your life. Just ask Cinderella.” The question is, kitty cats…will you be flaunting your fabuleux footwear with a high-hemlined dress; or will you stick to the traditional style of long, flowing frocks come your time to say “I do”?

Fashionably yours!

Thanks to David's Bridal for the picture.

  1. I love that Cinderella quote. It's so true. I plan on probably wearing one of those long gowns because I've always had the traditional wedding dreams with maybe some sweet ballet flats BUT for the reception I will make sure I get a shorter gown of similar variation of my own & wear gorgeous heels with it!! I'll dance & show off my pretty shoes!! =)

  2. How funny! One of my closest friends was just engaged, and the one thing she cares most about (besides marrying the love of her life) is getting the most fabulous shoes. Forget the dress, she wants to go all out on a pair of heels! I love it!

I'm different, I plan on getting married on the beach so sandals or bare feet are in order...

  4. I wore ballet slippers. A part of me wishes I was more traditional but another part of me is glad I was able to have my feet in its natural element.

  6. I had a long gown when I said "I do" and if I had to do it again, I still would! It's one of the few occassions when you can wear something long and glamorous! However, I did shoot a bride who did a short dress with some fabulous Christian Louboutin pumps! She was absolutely gorgeous too!

  9. I would totally wear a shorter wedding dress. In fact if I were to get married right now, I would wear a pair of olive colored flats (at a huge library with 200 guests and a mariachi band) not that I'm planning it already or anything ;)

  12. Erika, I absolutely love this! I've always thought about going for a short dress when I get married. I just couldn't picture my petite self in something floor-length!

  13. I wore a long gown and blue shoes underneath for my wedding!! But throughout the wedding every chance I got I was lifting up that gown so everyone could take a peak!! For the renewal of my vows {in 10 years}, I definitley want to rock something fun, sexy, and perhaps, short!! :)

    have a great weekend!

  15. It is funny how a pair of shoes can change your life. As for me, my pair of wedding shoes will be from none other than Jimmy Choo. Have a good one and thanx for the header compliment.

  16. I love this dress! David's Bridal recently came out with a line of convertible wedding dresses that I adore. I love the traditional look of the floor length gown and then be able to zip away into a chic little wedding dress. I would love to do something like that for mine and Mark's wedding. I've already decided that I'm going to wear blue shoes at my wedding. Completely love.

  17. i'm addicted to shoes, but i find that a wedding is one of those (very few) occasions one can and should let it be all about the dress... so i'll definitely wear something floor-sweeping if i ever get married, but i'll still wear gorgeous shoes:)

  18. Hmm, well my trip down the aisle definitely not going to be any time soon! But I can see why some people just aren't flattered by long dresses, and showing off the shoes is always a plus!

  19. You know, I've never even thought about having a short wedding dress! Somehow, it's never crossed my mind. What a great way to be a modern bride! But I'm awfully traditional, so I'd probably stick with floor-length.

  20. Ugh. I have the same height challenged physique. Although, I think you wear it better dear.
    I'm 4'11".
    That's miniscule.
But I'm going to go with a floor length gown that's been in my family for generations... (I will spice it up though with some updating, as did my mother)
But a short dress is definitely called for at the reception!

  21. Shoes can add a lot to the whole over all look and to how pretty you feel. I love it when the shoes are a vibrant color that adds a pop of color next to the traditionally white gowns.

  22. Mad men would def agree and so do I!! I love the short dresses and love seeing them with fun high heels in colors of red, green or blue!! I actually did a post on my AllWomenStalk site about a Mad Men inspired wedding!

  23. I'm always excited to flaunt a gorgeous pair of shoes, so I've already decided that I'll have a short dress to show my shoes off.

  24. Such cute quotes! Though the idea of being able to show off whatever shoes I don on my big day is tempting, I am a sucker for the long traditional floor length dresses, complete with train. :) I can show off gorgeous shoes any day, but I can only rock a wedding gown once (hopefully)!
