Cafe Fashionista Book Club

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
Charles W. Eliot

If there is one thing most of you have probably learned about me via Café Fashionista over the years (aside from the fact that I am a shoe addict), is that I am a complete bookworm. Reviewing, recommending, reading…all can be found on my list of hobbies. In fact, my handbag, in my estimation, is barren if there is not a book taking up residence within its folds. And I think, based upon much of the feedback I have received from all of you when I mention books, that many share my adoration of the written word; therefore, I thought that it was high time to add a new feature to Café Fashionista…a monthly Book Club!

That’s right; today I am introducing you to the Café Fashionista Book Club! Each month, I will announce a new book that I would love to read with all of you, and you can either choose to read it along with me, or not (like I said, the choice is yours).

Throughout the month, you can come back to this original posting, and Discuss the current book club selection in the Comments section, sharing your thoughts on a character you love (or love to hate), memorable quotes or scenes in the book, and the like. Everything is very informal; but I think that it will be a blast, and I hope that you will all join in!

Now for the fun part. The very first Café Fashionista Book Club selection is…The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith!

Book Synopsis: 'Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?'

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

The title has been revealed, now it’s time to read and discuss!

Fashionably yours!

Honestly, I would love to do this BUT- I am in a book club already with my friends and one is about all I can muster with work and all that. But I look forward to reading your posts and i might recommend this for my book club when I get to pick the book in 2 months!

  32. Here's my two cents thus far...I LOVE Hadley. Especially because she is totally creeped out by mayonnaise and goes to great lengths to remove it from her sandwich (that is so me). :P

  33. Oh my gosh! I have totally been meaning to read this, but I just never got around to it! Maybe this will make me actually READ a book before it becomes old news.

  34. I'm about half way through it, and so far, I have to say that I looove Oliver and Hadley together, especially because now when she thinks of airplanes, she no longer gets claustrophobic or has a panic attack. Airplanes now calm her down and make her happy, which just shows how much effect Oliver has had on her already :)

  35. @rems I have to agree with you. Oliver and Hadley fit together like two puzzle pieces. I LOVE their easy-flowing banter, and understanding of one another.

Also...I can't help but to be reminded of the film Serendipity (if you haven't seen it, rent it the moment you finish this book) - which makes me love the book, and discussion of fate even more! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes! I totally agree, especially her just knowing where to find him kind of thing...has anyone else finished it? loooved it!

  37. I loved this book! It was well written and didn't read like a typical YA book. I can't wait for the next book!
