Khaki is not meant to be chic. It’s a color that instantly makes you think of muddy treks across dry, sand-covered saharas. Of wide-open spaces populated by mosquitoes and other creepy-crawlies. Of excursions through caves and shrub-covered plains. But no, Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock, the design duo dynamos behind Vena Cava, refuse to accept such a fate for the kitschy khaki. They decline to welcome such thoughts. Instead, they have taken the color under their wing in the hopes of turning it into something more sophisticated, as illustrated by way of the
Printed Khaki Dress –
Gap coupons.
Typically with such a frock, you would need a statement necklace to add a slice of sophistication and glitz to the neutral-toned wonder. So is not the case with the
Printed Khaki Dress, as wrapped about the neckline is an ebony-hued tribal design that adds a sense of drama to the simple silhouette. Reminiscent of a built-in coal-colored shawl, the end result is an ensemble that is slinky yet inky.

The elasticized waist cinches the free-falling finery in the same matter as would a belt, which provides a splendrous bit of ruching that is fashionable yet fun; while the short sleeves make this a bit that would look divine worn either day or night.
Slip on a pair of flat, open-toed sandals; yank your hair out of its tight chignon to let it fall cheekily about your shoulders; and let yourself go. After all, don’t you want to be a member of la tribu branchée – or, in more simple terms, the trendy tribe?
Fashionably yours!
Thanks to
Gap for the pictures.

ReplyDeleteSo chic! The simple pieces are always the best - this one is so unfussy, yet practical and cute...great find!
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you don't think of khaki as chic because I am the exact opposite. I just loooove its preppy appeal.
ReplyDeleteEspecially in this GAP dress and in this one: http://www.the-anthology.com/2009/03/vancouver-street-style-2/ (which Liv styled so beautifully).
I probably wear way too much khaki.
ReplyDeleteI adore this dress! I used to wear a lot of khaki back in the day but I kind of dropped off it for a while. I definitely like how this looks with those flats.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why this dress makes me think about Pocahontas.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is so cool! I can't believe it's Gap. I adore the print on the neckline.
ReplyDeleteI think khaki looks sophisticated. Also, this dress is adorable. It exactly something I can imagine Serena Van Der Woodsen wearing.
ReplyDeleteHahah today in Bio class, the teacher was talking about veins in the body and was one was called Vena Cava. I laughed so hard, I nearly died.

Safari meets couture. I would wear it but with a long floaty drapy skirt, you know, something the bushes and jungle can snag on to.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely one of those who associates khaki with more outdoorsey stuff, so I really loved seeing a different side of it. Great dress and definitely suitable for even more formal occasions! Love the color as well :)
ReplyDeleteI think this is very chic. I am loving the sandals as well. Have a very happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteCool dress!
