Lessons in Lingerie

“First rule of cleavage: it’s not how low you go, but where and when you show.”
Elisabeth Dale

Fashion fact of the day: one in ten women, 80% of the female population, is completely clueless as to what their true bra size is. And no, dolls, I’m not joking.

Lingerie, especially of the bra variety, is oftentimes a sticky situation. And why wouldn’t it be? We are expected to know the difference between band and cup sizes; then have to take into consideration the style of the garment in question – strapless, convertible, halter, criss-cross, sports…it’s enough to drive a sane fashionista out of her stylish mind. Soon we will have My Curves & Me to offer assistance (as well as discount codes, members only sales, an awesome range of products, and a specialized consumer panel) and advice in the world of underwear. Until then, I’m going to offer you a few tips on finding the perfect bra fit…

When measuring your band size (remember, fashion measuring tape is essential), take a deep breath, then expel all of the air from your lungs so that you get the snuggest fit.

Always round an odd band number up to the nearest even number (for example, if you return a 33” after measuring, round up to a 34”).

When measuring your bust size, subtract the number you arrive at from the number of your band size (for example, if your bust size is a 36” and your band size is a 34”, subtract 34” from 36” to arrive at 2”). This number indicates what letter cup you are (in this case, a 2 would be equal to a B-cup).

These are the tips that have worked for me in ensuring the best bra fit. What tips, tricks, and techniques do you use to find the best bra fit? Do tell!

Fashionably yours!

  14. Great tips, thank you!

I go to lingerie stores for fittings, but my best tip is to do it every time you buy a new bra if you have lost or gained only as much as a kilo. When I gain weight, it goes straight to my breasts, so naturally, that's where I loose weight from, too, so I have a couple of bras in only slightly different cup sizes.

  15. Nordstrom offers a bra-fitting service for free, and they do SUCH a good job at it! They did me the other day, and I was soclose to spending like 0293423 dollars on 30 new bras.

  16. "Love, love, love it!" This coming from my daughter. I bought this for her to grow into. I purchased a B-cup and it was only a little too big. She says its comfy and has the right amount of padding in it! Worth your money for sure!!! Only had one problem with it, on the inside of the cup there were wrinkles of extra fabric. I would definitely purchase discounted wonderbra bras
