Thrifty Thursday: Miu Miu Cork and Leather Wedge Sandals for Less

Darlings, regardless of what you may or may not have been told over the years, wedge sandals are not merely a maybe or might when it comes to footwear and the fashionista; au contraire, kitty cats, they are of the utmost importance to one’s burgeoning collection of shoes. As essential to one’s year-round wardrobe as dripping ice cream cones, or funnel cake piled high with powdered sugar are to a day at the county fair.

But I digress; to put it in simpler terms, wedge sandals are the footwear equivalent to the diamonds adored so much by Marilyn Monroe…a girls’ best friend. They proffer the same sort of height found within your sophisticated stilettos; yet retain a splash of effortless, bohemian elegance that your pumps simply don’t possess. And no pair compares to the fabulous free spirited finesse showcased upon Miu Miu’s Cork and Leather Wedge Sandals.

Crafted out of a mix of supple brown leather and an earthy cork sole; Miu Miu’s Cork and Leather Wedge Sandals contribute a down-to-earth, folksy aesthetic to your look du jour which invokes thoughts of sing-alongs hosted shore side around the flickering glow of a fire, lead by a scruffy boy strumming languidly upon an acoustic guitar.

But no, it is not just the frame of mind, or hippie era that the Cork and Leather Wedge Sandals transport you to the moment you slip them on; the true piece de resistance of their grooviness, I’ll have you know, lies within their ability to lengthen your legs courtesy of their rich, yet natural tones – a characteristic destined to make any girl jump for joy!

Sadly no jumping – or leaping, skipping, and any other sort of behavior exhibited when excitement is in full bloom – will be taking place. For, while absolutely mesmerizing in their design, the $650.00 price tag which comes attached to these wicked wedges leaves much to be desired. Luckily Rosegold’s Women’s Casey Wedge serves up the same sort of style as their high-end counterparts for a fraction of the price.

While not the cheapest form of footwear on the block; for $168.00, you can have Miu Miu good looks at Rosegold’s ravishing prices!

Your turn loves…will you be thrifty or suckered into putting on your spendthrift cap?

Fashionably yours!

  2. I am absolutely in love with those Miu Miu wedges. I must have them! :) Now if only they didn't cost $650! Looks like I'll be picking the Rosegold pair!

  3. Yay! I love my cork wedge sandals and I wore them for the first time yesterday. Oh, how I love them. My legs look fabulous in them!

  5. Oh Wedges! We have a love/hate relationship. I love that they scream "summer is here", but I feel so clumsy in them! Either I'm clunking around in them or I'm constantly twisting my foot sideways at the most embarrassing moments(because I'm suck a klutz!) Lol! But either way, I'm happy to know that summer is almost here! Bring on the Wedges!

  6. They really look the same... I love corked wedges. I even dug my shoe closet for some of my old cork wedges.

Have a great day Erika! xoxo

  7. LOVE THEM! I wish they suited me... but they just don't go properly with my style. I think they look amazing on everyone else though :)

  8. Perfect pick! It's nearly impossible to tell the difference. I love wedges, but would probably go with something a little shorter. Too high and it reminds me of when I was obsessed with the Spice Girls and wore too-tall wedges everywhere. But, I was 12 and got away with looking silly.

  9. If I were shoe shopping I typically wold not be drawn to this style...but when you described them as "down-to-earth, folksy aesthetic" they became so much more appealing..I dont know why! hehe

  10. I can't believe those are two different pair of shoes!!! What a great knock off... they must be in some big law suit though :) as you know my love I adore wedges... and not only because they make me feel tall like a supermodel but also because I don't feel like my shoes are filling with blood after 10 minutes of wearing them! (like with stilettos :)

    I {heart} wedges!!!

  16. wedges so rock..from the dance floor to those summer outings. My mom told me a college story about her stilletos getting stuck in a lit floor at the disco. After that, wedges when it came to dancing.

  17. Hi there-these sandals are gorgeous and the cheaper pair are a great compromise!!

  18. Wow, those are almost identical. They could be in that "Adventures in Copyright" segment on Fashionista.com, lol. I'm about to stud some leather wedges to make them more interesting, but I like the leather creeping onto the wedge just as well. Good find!

  20. The question is are they twirlable?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm liking the cork and leather, definitely. Kind of a throwback to the 70s maybe? But please, a lower wedge for me!

  22. Wedges are my Spring/Summer fave. LOVE them!

  23. These wedges are WONDERFUL. They're everything I'm looking for in a summer wedge, perfect for little floral dresses . . . put indeed, that price tag is daunting. There's a second-hand store chain in SF called Crossroads that is pretty freaking phenomenal, at which I've found Miu Miu slingback sandals for $36, Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals for $42, Michael Kors wedges for $26, etc. Amazing! In the meantime, I'll continue to troll online boutiques and vintage stores for the perfect (and affordable!) summer 2010 wedges . . .

  27. I definitely agree that the wedge sandals are an essential. Love the Miu Miu's, although I gotta imagine, at $650, one might be afraid to actually wear them anywhere! I'll go with the Rosegold's for this one.

Thanks so much for encouraging comment this morning!

  28. I love your look for less posts! These are cute! I'm a sucker for a wedge (love the height of heels, not so much the discomfort).

  30. Wow! Too expensive but they are wonderful!

  31. Ugh, dahlin' I envy any women who can pull off this wonderful wedge style. Unfortunately, they girl is not me. Bird legs and clunky shoes just don't play nice together

    ReplyDelete
  32. Holy wow! They look so similiar!! Love it... Wedges are a definite must. Hope you're doing great Erika.

    xx Love & Aloha

  33. I literally can't see the difference, other than the sole.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Funnily enough I actually prefer the cheaper version to the Miu Miu originals anyway! I agree that wedges really have become a staple nowadays. I do however have a gorgeous white pair in my closet that rarely see the light of day simply because they are wooden and keep threatening to break my ankles for they are really ridiculously high. Oops.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I MUST have those Miu Miu beauties! As you know, I'm a huge fan of wedges and just adore these. Spendthrift indeed! :)

    ReplyDelete

  43. I kept going back between the 2 pis trying to find big differences - they look almost exactly the same - how you find the high/low all the time I don't know - so great!

  46. Ooh gorgeous! I think you've convinced me to buy a pair of brown cork wedges!

    ReplyDelete
  47. While it is less expensive, at that price, even the thrifty version is out of my price range. So sad.

RYC: Thanks for the compliment on my hair! The salon made donating really easy, so I may do it again..

  48. Erika! You found the perfect summer shoes! wow, I want to pair them with socks and wear them in the spring and fall as well. I don't even have enough to buy the cheaper ones at the moment, but I am bookmarking the page because I have been looking for a pair like this!! :D

*ps-It's so cool that you have a Josie Doll! I wish I still had my kitty ears. :P

  50. aweeesome! i love cheaper copies of high end designer shoes bc i dont buy leather, usually they use synthetic materials instead. perfecto!

    ReplyDelete
  51. They're dead-ringers. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow! Identical? Hmmm...I love them and I would probably be thrifty if I had to...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Such a close pairing!!! You can barely tell them apart (though the expensive ones do look better but I can't tell why) and the cheap one would so be worth the difference. I love wedges in summer!

    ReplyDelete
  54. in love with this style! they both are so so me. I own a similar pair atually from a few years back with a t-strap. i live in those during the summer!

    ReplyDelete
  55. i love wedges! i am not so brave with high heels (i have janky ankles after spraining BOTH of my stupid ankles last year -- plus i have wussy baby feet), but even i can rock the wedges! of course i can't afford the miu miu's!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I kept doing double takes. These look EXACTLY the same! amazing :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. That is a really great K/O! I could hardly tell the difference. What a perfect shoe for the spring!

  59. You put it so well... wedges really are our trustee friends in the sense that they give us the sexy hoist, yet remain rather comfy.

I'd have to be thrifty though... sigh!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Cork wedges are amazing shoes! The Miu Miu ones are lovely, but too expensive. I'm going for the thrifty option this week.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I will not be forking over my cash-- but i do heart them!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wedges are a must in my book, regardless of what the style Gods are telling us... I live in Manhattan and walk for hours every day to wherever I need to be, so wedges or flats it is. Love those Miu Mius, even though the more inexpensive version might be a better choice considering my budget! xoxox

  63. Erika, I've just discovered your blog! I love it, it's beautiful.

And I couldn't agree more on the wedges, although I never have the guts to actually wear them!

  64. i am LOVING the wedges! i don't really care for heels, so wedges give me comfort and height! :o)

  65. Oh, I love cork wedges, so seventies! :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. In reality, all of my money is being saved for my upcoming vacation! But these are so beautiful. My "resolution" for next year will be to purchase a pair of Miu Miu shoes. I still regret not getting the spectator pumps from a few years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh wow, those are insanely high. Haha. I'd have to go cheap this time :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I love wedge sandals, they're the most comfortable kinds of high heels. Especially if it's wedges and platform as well haha.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh these are soo similar! But I think I have to go with Miu Miu in this case... they just look a little more luxe. Love em both tho!

    ReplyDelete
