LooptyHoops Love!

You all know me for my love of nail polish and shoes; but one thing I refuse to ever leave the house not wearing is earrings. There is something about a great pair of earrings that awakens your entire face and makes your eyes sparkle. Though I myself usually opt for a pair of oversize diamond studs for their practicality and sophistication; I have an absolute obsession (that developed during my I-want-to-be-Kelly-Kapowski-from-Saved-by-the-Bell years) with huge hoop earrings. Thus the reason why I spend countless hours each day perusing the pages of LooptyHoops, which features a ton of gorgeous earring selections; and one of my absolute favorite features…a sizing guide! Check out my current earring crushes below!

Endless Diamond Cut Sterling Silver Hoop Earrings
Large and in-charge! I'd pair these with an off-the-shoulder top and playful pony for a daytime outing with my besties!

Multi-Colored Twisted Oval Hoop Earrings
The subtle pale blue, rose pink, gold, and sage green shades are the perfect way to bring out the color of your eyes; while the twisted oval shape is an unexpected touch. I'd pair them with a safari-inspired ensemble!

Scrolled CZ Hoop Earrings
A hoop style that Marie Antoinette would undoubtedly approve of. The scrolling reminds me of Versailles - tres glamorous! And the blend of sterling silver and gold? The ultimate in versatility!

14k Yellow Gold Large Endless Hoop Earrings
Pair these with a messy updo and you'll be dripping sophistication!

Dark Chocolate 14k Wavy Hoops
One part glamour. One part edgy rebellion. These are my pick for the perfect Girls Night Out!

Which pair of LooptyHoops are you coveting?

Stay tuned for the chance to take your own pair of LooptyHoops home right here on Café Fashionista – Giveaway to come soon!

NOTD: China Glaze Traffic Jam

This is two coats of China Glaze’s Traffic Jam from the Fall 2011 Metro Collection. Purple / Pink-Leaning Berry Jam.

My new favorite berry shade! This is one of those super rich crèmes that, in my opinion, matches the color of ripe raspberries to a T – it literally makes me want to go berry picking! The formula on this one is amazing – thick, yes; but easy to work with and completely opaque in two coats. This is a must-have summer-to-fall transition shade. Love it!

Be a Roaring Twenties Flapper...mark Style!

Since I first read F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby more than a decade ago, I have adored flappers and the Roaring Twenties – an obsession that has recently been reignited via Anna Godbersen’s Bright Young Things trilogy. One of the things that has made the era stick out so strongly in my mind? The makeup, fashions, and accessories, of course – all of which, I have found, can be obtained (affordably!) via one of my favorite makeup and fashion brands in the world…mark!

The Makeup:

This mark-created look (seen on mark spokesperson Ashley Greene) is called Very Berry and, in my opinion, is the perfect Roaring Twenties look. Here’s how to achieve it (as reprinted from mark):

♥FACE: Apply Got the Goods Multi-Benefit Foundation Lotion SPF 15 in a complementary shade all over the face to even out skin tone.
♥EYES: Sweep I-mark Wet/Dry Eye Shadow in shade puff along the brow bones and lids. Apply shade tiki from the lash line to the crease of the eye. Line the outer corner and bottom lash line with No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in shade foxy brown. Brush two coats of Lash Act Build and Define Mascara in shade blackest black onto lashes.
♥CHEEKS: Dust Just Blushing Powder Blush in shade dollhouse on apples of the cheeks and blend upward.
♥LIPS: Apply Make It Rich Lip Color Crayon in shade royale.

Download the face chart here for more in-depth instructions!

Jewelry Seen in Makeup Photograph:
♥mark Flower Show Ring; $20.00♥
♥mark Green Piece Earrings; $18.00♥

The Accessories:

Now that you’ve Got the Roaring Twenties Flapper Look, let me introduce you to a few mark accessories that I was lucky enough to receive, which stay perfectly in tune with the flapper vibe (and make perfect sparkly additions to your accessory collection)!

♥mark Longing For It Earrings I’m more of a studs girl myself, but there are times when you went to feel big, dangly earrings sweeping your bare shoulders to make you feel ultra-glamorous, which is why I love these. The color is this super rich, bright silver (almost with a white undertone) that is incredibly eye-catching, and seriously make your eyes sparkle like crazy if you keep your hair pulled up in a wispy topknot. Like the mark Show Your Metal Necklace I reviewed last week, these are incredibly lightweight, so you don’t wind up with a headache after a few hours of wear. Super fun – especially for Date Nights or Girls Night Out! $20.00.

♥mark Add Sparkle Headbands I love, love flapper-esque headbands that wrap around your head, but they are basically ruled out for me because I have bangs; so I absolutely adore these Add Sparkle Headbands, because they have that dreamy Twenties Girl vibe without leaving your bangs a mess. These are a really sweet, glittery addition to simple ponies; and give you that Louis Vuitton Spring / Summer 2012 girly vibe if you slip them on with a high ballerina bun. I like to wear both colors together for extra sparkle. $14.00 for two.

♥mark Nice Accent Scarf This is probably one of the most versatile accessories I have every owned. The shade is similar to a light milk chocolate and interwoven with gold pieces to make it shimmer (which is what makes it seem very glamorous and flapper-ish to me); and the rayon construction makes it incredibly lightweight, so that you can kind of toss it on with anything in your closet – I paired it with black skinny jeans, a black tank top, and my mark High Drama Pumps (reviewed here) for a friend’s birthday not too long ago, and it looked amazing. It’s a really fun piece to have if you want to add a subtle shimmer to your outfit!$16.00.

What do you think of this mark makeup look? Will you be picking up any of these flapper-ific accessories?

In My Closet: AliExpress by Alibaba Fox Face Pendant Necklace

As many of you could probably tell from my 365 Style Guide: Fox Trot post last week, as well as my frequent mentions of Roald Dahl’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, I have a teeny tiny (read: massive) obsession with foxes – especially once the fall season rolls around; thus the reason I was so thrilled to receive this Fox Face Pendant Necklace from AliExpress by Alibaba.

This is, without question, my new favorite accessory for fall. The diamante embellishment adds a beautiful sparkle to the fox motif; and the little tuft of white faux fur on the fox’s tummy makes it feel so cozy and authentic. The pendant falls, on me, right at mid-stomach (below my chest), so it rests perfectly upon sweaters, and is the perfect, perfect whimsical touch to any outfit. I am positively smitten with this necklace (as is everyone who has seen it on me, it seems)!

POSITIVES:
♥Lightweight.♥
♥Ideal for the animal-motif trend currently rocking the runways and the red carpet.♥

FASHIONISTA VERDICT:
♥5 / 5 Hearts!♥
Irresistibly cute, and the ultimate conversation starter - no can resist a fancy fox!

NOTD: China Glaze Trendsetter

This is two coats of China Glaze’s Trendsetter from the Fall 2011 Metro Collection. Avocado / Dijon Mustard with Gold Shimmer.

This is one of those colors that is perfect for the beginning of fall – especially if you love unique shades. I personally have a hot-and-cold relationship with this color. At times I adore it as it’s so different (sometimes avocado green, others mustard yellow); and at other times I have mixed feelings. It’s definitely one of those shades that will elicit a variety of opinions based upon your lacquer preference. Regardless, it is an incredible formula (as I’ve found China Glaze most often is); and a really cool shade if you’re looking for something unusual.

Accessories: Ring via Forever 21 (purchased years ago; though I loved the fact that it perfectly matched this mani).

In My Closet: mark Show Your Metal Necklace

Fashion Week has arrived, and one of the big trends of the moment is…statement necklaces! For that reason, I had to share with you one of my latest accessory obsessions that I’ve had for about a month now, and have been wearing multiple times each week because it is gorgeous, represents my favorite season (Fall!), and works seamlessly with the statement necklace trend. The item? mark’s Show Your Metal Necklace. If you Follow Me On Instagram @cafefashionista you probably saw me post about this when it first arrived; for everyone else…voila!

I tend to lean more towards long pendant necklaces in my accessory choices; however, I wear a lot of V-Neck tops for elongation, so I am always on the hunt for a glamorous bib-type necklace that is lightweight – this one totally fit the bill.

The mark Show Your Metal Necklace is a gorgeous antique burnished brass color that is super pretty for autumn, as it makes you think of the changing colors of fall; which brings me to my favorite aspect of this piece…the motif! When you look closely, you realize that the necklace is actually constructed of five oversized layered leaves that are so rich, decadent, and evocative of all things autumn (Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks, cable-knit sweaters, cognac-hued riding boots…the list goes on and on), that you can’t help but to wish for chilly weather whenever you wear it.

POSITIVES:
♥Super affordable - $24.00!♥
♥Lightweight.♥
♥Versatile color that looks gorgeous paired with silver or gold jewelry.♥
♥Perfect for the statement jewelry trend!♥

FASHIONISTA VERDICT:
♥5 / 5 Hearts!♥
An essential for the girl looking for an elegant and affordable luxury to add to her jewelry collection; and an absolute necessity for the classy lady who wants a touch of autumn in her life year-round!

August 2012 Favorites: Beauty

Say hello to my August beauty favorites. Let me know if any of these are favorites of yours; or what beauty products you’re currently loving in the comments section!

♥e.l.f. Nail Polish Remover Pads - As you can tell from my NOTD posts, I absolutely love nail polish. The thing I don’t love is removing it. I always find removing nail polish to be a frustrating, time-consuming, and messy process; so when I stumbled upon the e.l.f. Nail Polish Remover Pads, I was hoping for the best, but didn’t know what to expect. Needless to say, I have since bought eight more packs, because I am so obsessed with these. Each pad is saturated with a citrus-scented nail polish remover, and you can use both sides, so it’s as if you’re getting double the quantity. Unlike standard nail polish remover, these are no drip, no mess, and typically get the job done with the use of two pads (10 fingers). These are also perfect for travel as they are not marked as a hazardous material the way a bottle of nail polish remover is, so you can bring them on airplanes – perfect for jet-setters! If you are as obsessed with nail polish as I am, these are an absolute must. $2.00 for a Pack of 20.

♥mark Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Iconic - The first eye shadow that I ever used was mark’s i-Glimmer Illuminating Eye Color in Bronzed which was, sadly, discontinued a few years ago. Luckily, I still have a small stash of it that I use all the time; but I’ve been looking for something else that I will be able to use once my supply is gone, which is how I came across mark’s Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Iconic. Iconic comes with a golden/bronze shadow, and a gold-flecked forest green liner. What I love about this product is that it’s gel-based, creamy, buildable, super-pigmented, and, even in 100*+ weather, it lasts and looks like it was just applied. I use a swipe of the gold shade for my lids, and I layer the green liner over my standard black eyeliner for added vibrancy (I have green eyes, and find that I love this combo). There are over five different color combos of this product available (including a smoky eye duo), so they are definitely worth checking out.$11.00 for 0.04 oz. net wt.

♥Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Nude Lustre, 040 - When I do my makeup my main focus is my eyes, so I always go for a nude lip. I don’t personally wear lipstick, because I don’t like how it feels on me, and I like the shine of gloss. That said, I picked up Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Nude Lustre, 040. While it has the shine of a gloss, I find that it has somewhat of a lipstick-y texture; however, not enough so that it bothers me – I actually really love this product. This is probably one of the most long-lasting lipglosses / lip colors I have ever used. I can put it on, and drink or eat, and the shine and subtle hint of rosy nude color lasts for hours without needing reapplication. Initially, I didn’t know if I really liked this product, so I put it aside for awhile, then tried it again earlier this month and fell in love with it. I find that my change of heart came from the addition of a lip balm. This product, like a lipstick, can be drying on your lips, so if you don’t use a lip balm underneath it, the wear is very uncomfortable. Layering it over a lip balm, however, makes it awesome. $6.99 for 0.2 fl oz.

♥e.l.f. Essential Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal - My skin is very pale, and I use a lot of black eyeliner and black mascara, so I have always been scared to try a blush because I don’t want to look too made-up or theatrical. I do, however, love the look of a shimmery highlight on the cheekbones, but have never really known which one to purchase; so when I found the e.l.f. Essential Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal (a dupe of BENEFIT’s High Beam) for $1.00, I figured it was worth a try. It has now become a part of my daily beauty routine. I put a few dots at the very top of my cheekbones then use my ring finger to pat it in, and I find that I get the prettiest all-day glow that adds a hint of color to my face without competing with my eye makeup, or making me look overdone (see below for a picture of this product on my cheeks). A lot of people say that this product separates (water base and color divides from one another). I have not encountered that problem because I shake the tube vigorously for one minute before using it; so if you decide to use this product, I recommend doing that. $1.00 for 0.34 oz. net wt.

♥ORLY Frolic - You may remember me featuring ORLY’s Frolic as one of my NOTD’s a few weeks ago. At the time I mentioned that it had made it onto my list of Top Ten Polishes of All Time; but since then it has made it onto my Top Five Polishes of All Time list, because I have gone back to it a few times over the past few weeks for both manicures and pedicures, and don’t think that I will ever tire of it. This is one of those must-have shades for girls who want a feminine color on their nails, but are bored with basic pinks and purples. Frolic is anything but basic. It is an electric / neon purple shade with pink / fuchsia undertones that is super-wearable year-round; and is a complete attention-getter (I receive so many compliments when I wear this shade). Plus, it is one of those rare one-coaters – which no one can really resist. Obsessed! $8.00 for 0.6 oz. net wt..

So those are my August beauty favorites. Let me know in the comments section what beauty products you’re loving right now; or, if you have any questions about the products I featured here, ask away below.

NOTD: Essie Mojito Madness

This is two coats of Essie’s Mojito Madness from the Summer 2012 Collection. A fun-loving, lime green.

Out of all of the nail colors I have used this summer, this is probably in my Top 3. The formula is absolute perfection – not streaky at all, and gorgeously opaque in two coats. Essie calls it lime green, but I’d place it more along the lines of a Kelly or grass green – very bright and playful!

Accessories: Pieces Helle Jade Stone Ring via ASOS.

A Kiss for KITSCH: Hair Ties Review

Despite the fact that much of my life is devoted to fashion; I spend a large amount of time doing physical activities in the form of working out and ballet. Meaning? I need a strong hair tie or headband to hold my hair out of my face. Sadly, the ones I have come across in the past have made me feel less than glamorous; so when I received an e-mail from KITSCH inviting me to try out some of their hair accessories, I was beyond excited. And now, looking back, I am thrilled that I jumped at the opportunity, because they have become one of my absolute favorite accessories for working out, ballet, or simply hanging around – plus, they double as super adorable wrap bracelets!

I received a handful of headbands, and about 20 hair ties, all in varying colors, prints, and textures. My favorite would have to be the Metallic Mix pieces, which are made of a material that almost looks and feels like velvet (but isn’t), and are super sparkly, so they add a really pretty shimmer to your hair that makes you feel a bit glamorous and sophisticated even when you’re simply wearing denim; but the Swan Lake offerings have literally become my BFF’s for dance, as the muted, pastel tones match my leotards.

What I love about all of these pieces is that they don’t have that painful pull / rubberband factor that accompanies standard hair ties and headbands; yet they still stay in place, and keep your hair out of your face just as effectively.

KITSCH truly has a fan for life in me, and my friends (one of whom has already swiped a few of my hair ties; and three others who purchased sets from Anthropologie and Free People). And, thanks to the affordability of the sets, I plan on stocking up on these to use as holiday gifts because they are absolutely perfect for everyone – from the fashion-forward to the athletic.

The headbands are my absolute favorites. Which KITSCH products would you love to try?
