{what's in my} ipsy october 2016 glam bag!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with ipsy, it is a beauty subscription service that costs $10 per month {awesome deal IMO}, and consists of a collectible makeup bag {can also double as a clutch} along with 5 beauty samples that are customized to your personal beauty profile {which you can change/update at anytime}. I love getting subscription boxes, but don't have a ton of extra cash to spare, so I find ipsy to be the best value as each month's bags are adorable, the products are of fantastic quality, and their stylists are top-notch {and some of my fave beauty bloggers}. That being said, let's get to the bag!
While I'm not supercalifragifeeling the cleansing oil or face cream; I am dyiiing over the Adesse New York Organic Infused Liquid Chrome Nail Polish in GRAND CENTRAL {full-size boos!}.
October's theme was BLACK MAGIC {so necessary for the month featuring All Hallows Eve!}. Inside my bag was a full size Adesse New York Organic Infused Liquid Chrome Nail Polish in GRAND CENTRAL, full size essence cosmetics Superfine Eyeliner Pen Waterproof in BLACK, mini size trèStiQue Matte Lip Crayon in BELIZE BORDEAUX, sample size TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, and sample size ZIAJA Natural Olive Cream Light Formula.
Polish in my bag two months in a row FTW boos! I love a duochrome for fall, and Adesse New York's Organic Infused Liquid Chrome Nail Polish in GRAND CENTRAL does not disappoint. Grand Central is v reminiscent of OPI's 2013 Peace & Love & OPI, featuring a multifaceted holographic shift of sage and eggplant that is positively yum to look at. Like most duochromes, the formula here is thin, but builds to opacity with a trio of easy to apply coats. This isn't a color that I would ordinarily select for myself; but I did enjoy it for a change from my typical cremes.
I have v little experience with cleansing oils, so I didn't know what to expect when I tried TATCHA's Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, but I was pleasantly surprised. I used this to remove makeup {which I ordinarily do using a combination of a Neutrogena Mask Wash and Vaseline}, and found that it removed my eye makeup {including a waterproof mascara} in mere moments. While that was impressive, what I think this product is really phenomenal at is hydrating dry skin, so it will def come in handy during the colder months. Out of every face product I have received since subscribing, I would say that this is the only one that I would consider purchasing the full-size of.
If the title of this blog didn't tip you off, I'm a massive fan of cat eyes, and rarely leave the house without them myself; so finding essence cosmetics' Superfine Eyeliner Pen Waterproof in BLACK in my bag this month was such a brilliant treat! I love eyeliner pens for their ease of control, and this one gave me exactly that, allowing me to create a sharp, pointy wing without difficulty. The downside, however, is that the color is too faint, making it necessary to retrace my lines multiple times for a rich, black hue. Womp womp. It's still a great one to try for $2.99; but I wouldn't rebuy.
While nude lips are my one true love year-round; I do occasionally go for a darker pout for fall; and trèStiQue's Matte Lip Crayon in BELIZE BORDEAUX looked lush for October! TBH, I was expecting a more wine-toned hue when I heard the name of this one; but, in reality, it wears more like a pink/fuchsia-based cherry - beautiful to look at, and v wearable on a multitude of skintones; but not really autumn-esque. I did enjoy the application {smooth and not patchy}, and wear-time; but the color didn't suit me. Additionally, at $28 for the full-size, I'm not impressed, as this is nearly identical to e.l.f.'s Matte Lip Color, which retails for just $3.00!
Moisturizers are not a part of my skin routine, as I'm really not comfortable with using too many face products for risk of breakout. That said, I read a lot of great things about ZIAJA Natural Olive Cream Light Formula prior to trying it, so I was kind of excited about giving it a whirl. I don't like heavy face products, so I found that this one was soothing to use, as it's v lightweight and feels hydrating without making your skin feel oily. While my experience with this product was a good one; I can honestly say that I would never buy a full-size version, as I don't need a product like this. I do think that if you like moisturizers, you would def love this one.

NOTD: Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer in All Dolled Up
Yowza! Talk about a shade that sizzles!
All Dolled Up is one of those bright, playful, fun-loving shades that makes you nostalgic for summer, and deserves a place in everyone's polish stash.
I was blown away by the perfection of this formula. It is such a complete breeze to work with - it practically paints itself!

friyay face!
These e.l.f. Mineral Pearls are my new obsession. They add the most brilliant, radiant look to skin; not to mention they add a chic touch to any makeup counter. I run my makeup brush across them, then apply to my entire face for a natural, luminous highlight. This is the shade natural {also available in skin balancing}.

september 2016 empties!
Neutrogena Rapid Clear Daily Pads {$8.99} have been a Holy Grail item for me for years; not because I have ever had acne-prone skin, but because they really work to combat oiliness. I use two pads each day - one for my face, and one for my neck / shoulders / back, and they are brilliant! You can actually see the dirt they've removed; and they leave skin feeling so fresh and clean. I highly, highly, highly recommend these! FOREVER RE-BUY.
Like with its conditioner companion above, I received Juice Organics Repairing Shampoo {$9.99} as a sample, which prompted me to buy the full-size {to great success, I might add}. And, like with the conditioner, this one also contains no harsh chemicals. One of my favorite things about this duo is that neither leaves behind residue, so you don't find yourself pulling gunk out of your hair hours after washing. Again, I would love a bit of fragrance; but I can deal with it not containing one. FOREVER RE-BUY {already on bottle number two!}.
JULEP Lip Gloss in GLOWING {$20.00} came into my life as a freebie when I was purchasing nail polish {aren't I always?}; oddly enough, it became one of my favorite lip products of all-time, so I was so disappointed when I finished off the tube. Glowing is the perfect pinky / nude hue for adding luminescence to the lips, or extra shine to a darker-hued lipstick worn underneath. It lasts for up to 3 hours {which I find to be great wear-time for a gloss}, and really livens up the face. The price is what gets me. $20 is more than Anastasia Beverly Hills lip products; and, in my opinion, not worth it for the size of product you receive here. Womp womp. DEFINITE RE-BUY {when on sale}.
Though I've gone through numerous tubes of NYX Butter Gloss, this was the first time that I tried NYX COSMETICS Butter Gloss in CREME BRULEE {$3.99}, and I loved the shade. Creme Brulee is the perfect your lips but better nude that pairs stunningly with smoky eyes or more neutral makeup looks. I literally wore this every. single. day. until the tube ran out; and for the price, I can't help but to contemplate stocking up so I never run out again! TOTAL RE-BUY.
Sample lash products are my favorite, so I was super excited when I received stila's Huge Extreme Lash Mascara in BLACK {$23.00} alongside one of my more recent Sephora orders. Out of all of the mascaras I've tried lately, this one right here is one of my faves. It gives tremendous length and volume, and is so strikingly black that it looks as if you're wearing falsies. My one qualm is that it is a wet formula, and on some days it did transfer to my eyelid before completely drying {such a pain when you've already perfected your eyeshadow}. I haven't decided whether or not that serves as a dealbreaker or not, as it wasn't an everyday occurrence; but it was frequent enough to get slightly on my nerves. POSSIBLE re-buy.
I only recently started filling in my brows, and have zero interest in spending an arm and a leg for a brow product, so I was thrilled when I discovered ColourPop Brow Pencil in BLONDIE {$5.00}, because it is so affordable. I have light brown hair and don't love an uber dark brow, so I find that the shade Blondie is perfect for my coloring. I love the simplicity of this product - it literally takes less than a minute to fill in each brow, and it lasts all day. FOREVER RE-BUY {I'm already on number two, and have five back-ups waiting in the wings!}.
I've been using a ZOYA nail polish remover for a few years now; but it has become pricier as of late, so I decided to try OPI's Expert Touch Lacquer Remover {$5.95} due to affordability and experience with the brand, and let me tell you, I love it. This polish remover is phenomenal at removing any type of polish - be it glitter, creme, jelly, or textured. It also has no fragrance, so you don't feel offended during use. I wish it came in a bigger bottle, but I'm totally fine with it not - it still ranks as less expensive and more effective than my prior product. TOTAL RE-BUY (I'm about to start bottle number two!}.
mark. Windswept Hand Cream {c/o} {$6.00} was such a surprise love for me because I'm a total hand cream snob, but I have to be honest...I'm obsessed! The fragrance here is just luscious - a combination of grapefruit, cedarwood, and orchid that I truly cannot get enough of; but scent aside, I was wildly impressed with how soft this made my hands feel. It is non-greasy, the perfect consistency, and really hydrates and nourishes the skin {I even used it on my feet}. Fingers crossed they don't discontinue this one, because it's brilliant! DEFINITE RE-BUY.
Have you tried any of these products before? Thoughts?

The Wangs vs The World Book + Beauty Prize Pack Giveaway
What pairs best with a book? If you said a cozy sweater, hot chocolate, or a fireplace, you're so right; but in today's case the correct answer is beauty - as in m to the a to the keup. Why? Because I'm partnering with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to bring you not just a terrific tome {Jade Chang's The Wangs vs. The World, in stores now!}, but a few makeup marvels that will get. you. pumped!
Charles Wang is mad at America. A brash, lovable immigrant businessman who built a cosmetics empire and made a fortune, he’s just been ruined by the financial crisis. Now all Charles wants is to get his kids safely stowed away so that he can go to China and attempt to reclaim his family’s ancestral lands—and his pride.
Charles pulls Andrew, his aspiring comedian son, and Grace, his style-obsessed daughter, out of schools he can no longer afford. Together with their stepmother, Barbra, they embark on a cross-country road trip from their foreclosed Bel-Air home to the upstate New York hideout of the eldest daughter, disgraced art world it-girl Saina. But with his son waylaid by a temptress in New Orleans, his wife ready to defect for a set of 1,000-thread-count sheets, and an epic smash-up in North Carolina, Charles may have to choose between the old world and the new, between keeping his family intact and finally fulfilling his dream of starting anew in China.
Outrageously funny and full of charm, The Wangs vs. the World is an entirely fresh look at what it means to belong in America—and how going from glorious riches to (still name-brand) rags brings one family together in a way money never could.

NOTD: Essie Fall Nail Polish Collection in Playing Koi
In alllll of my years as a polish consumer, never have I ever found a shade that is as perfectly representative of the autumn season as Playing Koi. It's like a Pumpkin Spice Latte for your nails. I kid you not.
Formula here is straight up flawless - it applies seamlessly, and brings on all of the harvest feels. I knew that this would be my favorite shade from the Essie fall 2016 collection when I first bought it, and it did not disappoint.

{what's in my} september 2016 secret garden glossybox!
For those of you who aren't familiar with GLOSSYBOX, it is a monthly beauty subscription service wherein you receive 5 deluxe size beauty products for $21 a month based on the personal beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.
Brows: MODELLAUNCHER Brow Duo Pencil in TAUPE | Mascara: BORGHESE Superiore State-Of-The-Art Mascara in BLACK | Cleanser: Sesderma SENSYSES Cleanser Classic | Shadow: KORRES Volcanic Minerals Twist Eyeshadow in GREY BROWN | Mist: MONU Rosewood Reviving Mist | Serum: Sesderma SENSYSES C-Vit Moisturizing Serum
Like last month's SUNKISSED box, everything in this month's edition was new to me, so I had an absolute blast playing with it all! My favorite aspect for September? As opposed to going the fall foliage route with aesthetic, this box was all about fashion week - featuring products that fashion insiders keep in their beauty bags at all times. Fun, right?!
Mascara samples are my one true love {true story}, so BORGHESE's Superiore State-Of-The-Art Mascara in BLACK was literally one of the first items I had to try on for size after unboxing. Ladies, this may be one of the best mascaras I have ever tried {and I've tried a lot!}. The formula here is wet, a trait I'm not usually thrilled about, but it works here because it dries in a way that leaves your lashes feeling soft and natural, not stiff. In terms of volume, it does v little. But length? Out of this world! I would definitely buy the full-size of this bad boy!
I'm a total soap and water girl {with a dab of Neutrogena Face Scrub} when it comes to makeup removal, so unboxing Sesderma's SENSYSES Cleanser Classic wasn't a thrill. Nevertheless, I gave it a go and loved how easily it melted away my makeup with minimal scrubbing. Did I love it enough to contemplate purchasing the full-size? Negative. While I adored the way it evened my skin tone and brightened my complexion, it wasn't enough to top my tried and true skin regimen. If, however, you're looking for a quick makeup remover, you'd love this one!
Out of all of the items in this month's box, I was most excited for KORRES' Volcanic Minerals Twist Eyeshadow in GREY BROWN, and it lived up to all of my expectations! This is two swipes over an eyeshadow primer, and the pigmentation is just beyond! The so-called grey brown shade is basically a shimmery taupe that works for smoky eye looks day or night. Though you can't really blend this one out due to the creamy formula; with a small swipe of primer this baby doesn't crease, fade, budge, or smudge - and that's definitely something to talk about! This is a full-size product, so it will likely last me quite awhile; but I would love to purchase all of the other shades! Highly recommend this one!
I've only recently gotten into doing my brows, and I use only a pencil to make them perfect, so I was super excited to try MODELLAUNCHER's Brow Duo Pencil in TAUPE {another full-size!}, and even more thrilled that it was in a shade close to the one I currently use. Ladies, this pencil is the bomb dot com! The tip is angled, so it applies evenly and looks uber natural. My two qualms: the color is slightly too dark for me {I typically use a blonde-ish pencil}; and the wear time isn't fantastic. Would I repurchase? If they added a few lighter shades to their offerings I would give it another shot!
I don't really see the point of facial mists, so I went into trying MONU's Rosewood Reviving Mist with that frame of mind, but I was wrong. You guys, this stuff is awesome! The mist sprays onto skin v delicately and leaves you feeling incredibly refreshed. Even better, it smells like a spa, and bears the moniker Rosewood {Pretty Little Liars, anyone?}. Due to all of the above, I was actually planning on purchasing the full-size {major shock}, and then I noticed the ingredient list. I'm not a fan of parabens on my face, so I had to dial back on the love for this one. If you don't have a problem with parabens though, prepare to become obsessed with this baby!
While I have never paid much attention to serums for the face, I have been hearing so much about Vitamin C serums lately, that I was thrilled to find Sesderma's SENSYSES C-Vit Moisturizing Serum in my box. Though the sample of this one was small, it did allow for multiple uses - enough so that I developed a huge love love for this stuff! It applies beautifully, and really leaves your complexion brighter and more luminous. I know that I don't get enough Vitamin C, so the ease of purchasing it in a bottle is the best. thing. ever. Repurchase? Heck yes! I think people with all skin types would love this one!

NOTD: China Glaze Rebel Fall Collection in Blue-Ya!
Hellloooo gorgeous!
Blues always capture my heart, but Blue-Ya! takes that love to a whole other level due to those yummy blue and green metallic shimmer flecks that give off all of the Ariel vibes.
Formula here is flawless. One coat, two coat, top coat, go! This one does leave a bit of staining around the cuticles, but an extra run of nail polish remover essentially takes it all off.

links à la mode: the IFB weekly roundup {october 6, 2016 edition}
Other trends this week include ankle boots (a must!), strappy sandals, hats, handbags, and jewel tones. Ruby, emerald, sapphire, and amethyst are all very in right now. Others refer to these as deep reds, greens, blues, and purples, but I’m going to go ahead and pretend I didn’t have to google ‘blue jewel name’ to remember what a sapphire is called.
