{beauty board} back to bronze

Spring Break is on the way, and nothing pairs better with your itty bitty bikini than beachy bronzed beauty. While sunless tanner is awesome for a full-body glow, I like to fake bake my face with a handful of makeup products that leave you with the type of lit-from-within bronze-y glow that Victoria's Secret Angel dreams are made of.

bronze

First, I apply a caramel-toned primer to my cheeks, chin, forehead, and slope of my nose, blending it with a brush {I like to use the e.l.f. Studio Fan Brush for this}. I then add golden highlighter on top of those same areas {this creates that lit-from-within glow I was talking about}. To finish, I apply gold / bronze shadow shades to my eyes, and sweep a caramel-meets-nude lipstick to my lips for a glowy pout. Here are 4 of my faves to get the look!

{clockwise from top right}

{1} MAYBELLINE Expert Wear Eyeshadow Quad in SUNLIT BRONZE {$4.99}

{2} SONIA KASHUK Bare Illuminating Bronzer in GODDESS 40 {$12.99}

{3} MILANI Color Statement Lipstick in DULCE CARAMELO {$5.49}

{4} MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer in RADIANT PRIMER CARAMEL {$36.00}

NOTD: Julep Nail Color in Tara

One coat of Julep Nail Color in Tara. Silver, Periwinkle, and Copper Chunky Glitter and Silver Micro-Glitter in a Clear Base.

Le sigh. Why must you be so pretty?

Tara is one of the few glitter top coats that has a super playful spring / summer vibe to it {the copper and periwinkle pieces are highly responsible for this}.

The formula here is bril - very smooth, and even during application. Obviously, with a few coats you may be able to make this opaque; however, I think it would feel too thick and uncomfortable on the nail. Using it as a top coat is def the way to go. Here I'm wearing it over e.l.f. Nude.

February 13, 2015 – NYC – Yesterday, OPI rocked New York Fashion Week with Marissa Webb at Milk Studios with OPI’s lead nail artist Miss Pop and the OPI team of nail techs. They created a matte navy nail look with a strip of negative space that was bold and strong with a feminine touch.

shades of cruella de vil {e.l.f. disney villains 12 piece nail polish collection swatches + review}

We've covered Maleficent and The Evil Queen {of Snow White fame} from the e.l.f. Disney Villains 12 Piece Nail Polish Collection, and today I bring you swatches of Cruella de Vil {of course you know her as the evil puppy snatcher from 101 Dalmatians}. I think this may be my favorite trio of colors from the 12-piece collection, but we still have Ursula left, so we'll have to wait and see.

clockwise from top right: Smoky Brown; Smokin Hot; Nude.

Nude is a Dulche de Leche Creme. Now that's what I call a great nude. The aptly titled Nude is one of the best neutral nail colors I have ever used. 1} The color is pink-based, so you don't wind up with mannequin hands. 2} The formula is flawless. With a thick coat, Nude could easily be a one coat wonder! {This shade is also available in the e.l.f. Essential 3-Piece Nail Polish Set in Nice & Natural #3813 and the e.l.f. Essential Holiday 5 Piece Nail Cylinder}. This is 2 coats.

Smokin Hot is a Cherry Red Creme. Hey there, hot stuff! Tell me you're loving this shade as much as I am. So pretty! The formula here is divine. Super smooth and lush, and almost a one coater. This is an essential if you're looking for a spring / summer-perfect red! {This shade is also available in the e.l.f. Essential 3-Piece Nail Polish Set in Beach Party #3811 and the e.l.f. Essential Holiday 5 Piece Nail Cylinder}. This is 2 coats.

Smoky Brown is a Taupe / Light Brown Creme. Brown seems like such a strange color to wear on your nails but sometimes you hit on one that is perfect and this. is. it. The taupe undertones give Smoky Brown a slightly greyed out look that make it an amazing neutral. And the formula? Flawless {hello, one coat wonder!}. {This shade is also available in the e.l.f. Essential 3-Piece Nail Polish Set in Nice & Natural #3813}. This is 1 coat.

AVAILABILITY: This particular set was a 2013 Limited Edition; however, you can buy the bottles individually for $2.00 each here - as well as in a few multi-pack sets that I've linked above.

NOTD: Formula X Gemini

Two coats of Formula X in Gemini. Orchid Pink Creme.

Why wasn't this color in my life last year when radiant orchid was Pantone's one and only? #thestruggle

Sephora consistently releases gorgeous colors + amazing formulas under their Formula X line, and Gemini is just another brilliant example of this. The formula itself is flawless - lush, rich, super creamy - all of the necessary requirements for an epic polish. And that color? Orchid-meets-Barbie pink for the perfectperfectperfect spring-to-summer shade. Obsessed!

Essie The New Neutrals Cashmere Matte Trio Swatches + Review

Last week I showed you Essie's Wrapped In Color Trio, and today I have the second half of the Cashmere Matte Collection for you - aka The New Neutrals. This trio is slightly more basic and staple shades-centric than the last; but, also like the Wrapped In Color Trio, brimming with beauty. Let's take a look!

Comfy In Cashmere is a Smoky Mauve-Meets Taupe with Blue/Green Micro-Iridescence. Introducing...the favorite. In the bottle I was semi-iffy on this shade; on the nail...total love. The blue/green micro-iridescence is so very visible here; and the overall texture is brilliantly silky and smooth. Despite the matte formula, Comfy In Cashmere was an absolute breeze to work with {another reason to love it!}This is 2 coats.

Wrap Me Up is an Eggshell White. Shades like this are a total weakness of mine. I adore how striking they look on the nail, while still remaining a neutral. The formula here was fairly easy to work with - it was a bit difficult to get it to level out; but, overall, no complaints. Definitely one of my favorite shades from this collection. This is 2 coats.

Spun In Luxe is a Black with Blue/Green Micro-Iridescence. I'm so bummed you guys. This was the number one shade I wanted from this collection, and it wound up being my least favorite. Maybe it's my skintone, or I got a wonky bottle; but I found that Spun In Luxe looked like a standard black matte on me - nary a streak of blue iridescence to be found {unless, perhaps, under a magnifying glass}. Formula-wise, however, it was flawless. This is 2 coats.

AVAILABILITY: Ulta for the full-size trio set {Sold Out}; Macy's, mass market merchandisers, drugstores, and department stores for individual bottles.

PRICE: $24.50 for the trio {Sold Out}; or buy individual bottles separately for $8.50 each.
