Not every person in our lives warrants an extravagant prezzie {i.e. those casual acquaintances}. For these individuals, there's no need to ignore them during the holiday season; rather, it's a time to pick up something sweet and sassy that lets them know that you're thinking of them, without feeling too over the top. I like to stick at the $5 and under mark for these peeps. And guess what? It's super simple to do just that, as the items above more than prove.

I have never met a mug I didn't love, so of course I'm fully feeling the Threshold Let's Go On An Adventure 14oz Stoneware Mug in RED {which also gifts perfectly for the guys}. And the Forever 21 Macaroon Travel Keychain in PINK/LAVENDER? So sweet for the francophile in your life!

{giving tuesday} 5 ways to spread love for holiday 2016

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it's all about love, and giving thanks. While I enjoy Black Friday and Cyber Monday as much as the next girl; one of the things I get most excited about during this time of year is the #GivingTuesday movement, which is all about {obviously} giving back! Today I'm sharing 5 clever and simple ways to give back, and spread a little love for holiday 2016. I hope you'll join me in celebrating Giving Tuesday!

1} Give Wounded Veterans a New Leash on Life Through the Puppies Behind Bars Program, inmates at correctional facilities throughout New York and New Jersey train puppies to serve as service dogs for wounded veterans. Since its inception, PBB has trained and provided service dogs to more than 100 veterans. By donating $25, you pay for a collar and leash for one of these service dogs.

2} Sponsor a Special Needs Cat I have been actively donating to Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary for a number of years now, so I absolutely had to include them here! Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary is a lifetime care sanctuary for cats who are blind, FIV+, or FELV+. These are cats who were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters, and are now thriving under the care of volunteers. How can you help? Sponsor A Cat! For $30 per month you can sponsor the cat of your choice - receiving photos of your selected kitty, as well as periodic updates about him or her. Not only do I love this one for #GivingTuesday, it also serves as an amazing gift for Christmas, birthdays, or other special occasions.

3} Bring Coziness + Literacy to a Child in Need A long-time favorite organization of mine is Pajama Program, which provides cozy pajamas and books to children living in shelters, group homes, and temporary housing. Many of these children are shuffled from place to place with no parents to speak of, so warm pajamas and a bedtime story brightens their world! In NYC you can volunteer to host Reading Parties. Not in NYC? No worries! You can donate new books and pajamas!

4} Give a Disabled Dog the Chance to Run Again By now you can probably tell that I have a soft spot for special needs animals, which is why Romania-based Adăpostul Speranța, a Four Paws International partner run by Fundatia Speranța, has struck a chord with me on this #GivingTuesday! The animal hospital is known for taking in stray dogs, providing them lifelong shelter, and building special carts for their paralyzed canine residents so that they can run again! Right now, Adăpostul Speranța needs to buy materials for the construction of 11 new carts, so donating any amount will fund this endeavor, and give a paralyzed pup the chance to play.

5} Show Love to a Senior No one wants to be alone; but for many senior citizens this is precisely how they find themselves during their golden years. Enter Love for the Elderly. If you want a super simple way to make someone smile, this right here is the organization for you! Through Love for the Elderly's Letters of Love initiative, you have the power to change someone's perspective simply by putting pen to paper. Simply create/write a few cards or letters, mail them off to the address at the link above, and rest easy knowing that someone in a nursing home will be cheered by your communication! Teachers, this is also a great class project!

"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal."
Albert Camus

How will you celebrate #GivingTuesday?

SEPHORA COLLECTION Glitter, Gold, & Everything Bold Clutch | NEST Fragrances Birchwood Pine Scented Candle | Laura Mercier Iconic Leading Lady Lip Duo (Limited Edition) in VIVIEN | Kate Spade New York Happy Hour Glitter Coaster Set in GOLD | Jonathan Adler Zebra Dish in BLACK/WHITE | BaubleBar Odyssey Drops | BP. Filigree Circle Drop Earrings in GOLD | Easy, Tiger Pinkies Up Wine Glass | Burberry Beauty Festive Set

I put a lot of weight into shopping for the bestie. After all, she's your partner in crime and deserves a gift {or five} that is every bit as fabulous as she is!

I, for one, have a bit of an obsession with glassware {so weird, I know}, so this Easy, Tiger Pinkies Up Wine Glass is a fave for gifting {and serves as a reminder to always stay classy} - not to mention it'll look killer resting upon one of the sparkly coasters from the Kate Spade New York Happy Hour Glitter Coaster Set in GOLD.

And since we're all about the bold for the holidays, I'm planning on snagging a few pairs of both the BaubleBar Odyssey Drops and BP. Filigree Circle Drop Earrings in GOLD for my nearest and dearest gal pals, along with the Jonathan Adler Zebra Dish in BLACK/WHITE, which is literally the cutest spot to stash your baubles!

NOTD: Ciaté Mini Paint Pot in Power Dressing

Three coats of Ciaté Mini Paint Pot in Power Dressing. Navy Blue Jelly.

I have been coveting a deep blue polish for a few weeks now, so I was super excited to find Power Dressing when I shopped my stash.

Power Dressing is an intriguing formula as it applies super sheer, but builds beautifully. This is one of those colors that would work fantastically for a jelly sandwich; but I'm quite smitten with how it looks as is. Definitely one to contemplate for fall / winter!

Morgan Taylor Wrapped In Glamour 4PC Mini Set Swatches + Review

'Tis the season for manis that sparkle and shine so, of course, I couldn't pass up this Morgan Taylor Wrapped In Glamour 4PC Mini Set! Truth: I actually bought this quartet before Halloween, and was counting down the seconds until it would be appropriate to share it {because not everyone wants to think about Christmas in September}, and mid-November seemed the perfect time because soiree season is upon us! This is one of the best holiday sets IMO, because it encompasses all of the elegant shades of the holiday season, and comes wrapped in the most brilliant formula. Get ready to swoon!

Let's Get Frosty is a Silver Microglitter with bits of Bronze Glitter. Fact: I was shocked at the coverage I achieved with Let's Get Frosty considering the shimmer is in a clear base, but wowza! it was impressive. I'm not huge on silver shades, but the bronze glittery bits in this one make me love it - they remind me of champagne bubbles. Formula here was divine - just swipe and go. Even better: fast dry! This is 2 coats.

Just Naughty Enough is Rose Gold Microglitter with Scattered Holo. Holy holo Batman! Ladies, can we just take a moment to swoon over the pure decadence that is Just Naughty Enough? I mean, look. at. that. glitter. This one was made for holiday parties! Unlike Let's Get Frosty, this one takes a liiiiiitle more time and effort to reach opacity; but I think we can all agree that it is so worth it! This is 4 coats.

Rocking My Stocking is a Cranberry Shimmer. I live for cranberry shimmers come the holiday season and autumn months, and let me tell you right now: Rocking My Stocking is giving. it. to. me. Ladies, I am in love, love, love with this shade right here! That lit from within glow, that festive feel, that OCW formula {I opted for 2 out of habit, but it was opaque in 1}...I'm literally dying rn! For this color alone, I recommend this quartet. I'll be wearing this shade on Thanksgiving! This is 2 coats.

Who Nose Rudolph? is a Classic Red Creme. A holiday collection simply wouldn't be a holiday collection without the addition of a classic red creme, and Who Nose Rudolph? fits the bill magnificently {while sporting one of the cutest names in holiday polish history}. The formula here is the.bomb.dot.com, with a rich depth and opacity that shines through with just. one. coat. {I used two for these swatches, but I'm anal like that}. This is 2 coats.

PRICE: $14.95 for the 4PC Mini Set; or $9.00 per each full-size bottle.

{holiday gift guide} the beauty lover

Deborah Lippmann Ice Queen Nail Polish Set | Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine & Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll Set | Sephora Collection Glitter Happy Brush Set | tarte Curl Boss Lash Essentials | T3 Whirl Convertible Styling Wand | Laura Geller Beauty Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator (Limited Edition) | NARS Sarah Moon Shadow Side Eye Set (Limited Edition) | Sephora Collection Lip Mask in ROSE | Sephora Collection Lip Mask in SHEA

Happy Wednesday lovelies! I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week! The holiday season already feels like it's flying by; as such, today I'm kicking off my holiday 2016 gift guide series, because it's time to get shopping! I'm starting with one of my faaaavorite things: beauty!

Pretty brushes are my kryptonite, so I couldn't ignore the lure of this Sephora Collection Glitter Happy Brush Set {neither should you!}; and as I count Yves Saint Laurent's Baby Doll Mascara and tarte's Tarteist Mascara in my holy grail eye products list, I had to include both the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine & Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll Set and tarte Curl Boss Lash Essentials here.

And since we're talking holidays, we can't fail to mention shine! This Laura Geller Beauty Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator (Limited Edition) will keep your #highlightonfleek, and the gilded palette will add a little glamour to your makeup bag!

october 2016 empties!

I love big hair {i.e. lots of volume}, so when I spotted this John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Shampoo {$5.99}, and noted the mega-affordable price, I had to give it a try. I like it. A lot. While it doesn't give you blowout-worthy big hair, it does create a lot of lift and body {even for the straightest strands}. The downside is that the fragrance is a little weak - I wouldn't mind a stronger smell. OCCASIONAL RE-BUY {I still prefer my Juice Organics Repairing Shampoo}.

When I found butter LONDON Double Decker Lashes Mascara in STACKED BLACK {$20.00} in one of my sample bags, I was beyond because I've always had a great relationship with butter LONDON polishes, and mascara deluxe samples make me weak in the knees. True story. There is so much that I love about this mascara. The brush itself is fantastic, with super soft bristles that separate and coat lashes evenly; the color is a rich, gorgeous black; and the formula gives lashes insane volume. Where this one failed for me is in the length department. It added no length to my lashes; and since I don't do falsies, and can't stand having to use multiple mascaras, that was a total dealbreaker for me. NOT a re-buy.

My shampoo and conditioner are always in a couples relationship, so when I bought the shampoo above of course I had to grab the matching John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Conditioner {$5.99}. Like with the shampoo, I found that the conditioner created a fabulous fullness in my locks; but it also left my hair feeling super soft, and with 0 tangles - not to mention it's v lightweight. OCCASIONAL RE-BUY.

I have read sososo many positive reviews of The Body Shop Hand Cream in COCONUT {$8.00}; so when a deluxe sample arrived in one of my ULTA orders, I couldn't wait to give it a try. Maybe I'm in the minority when I say this, but...I wasn't a fan. While the texture was great {not too runny, too waxy, or too thick}; there was no wow factor in terms of how it made my skin feel. I will admit that I enjoyed the coconut fragrance; but, at times, I found it too overwhelming for my heightened sense of smell. Cute for a holiday gift; but I'm just not feeling it. NOT a re-buy.

SEXY HAIR Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner has become an absolute staple in my hair care routine, so when I received not one, but two deluxe samples of It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product {$18.00}, I was thrilled at the chance to try it out. Sadly, this one simply wasn't my cup of tea. The main pro for It's A 10 is the fragrance. It has that salon-smell that lingers for hours {which I love!}; but I found a lot of waste with this one. It is thicker, and less diluted than the product from SEXY HAIR, making it harder to spray on {regardless of how much shaking of the bottle I performed}. In the end, 1/4 of product was left trapped in each bottle - not cool if you're on a budget {or otherwise}. NOT a re-buy.

Oh my land ladies I have found the holy grail of lash products this month, and it is tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara in BLACK {$23.00}. Aside from an ultra-pretty tube I had no clue what to expect when I whipped this baby open, but it is pure satisfaction! Tarteist has a plastic applicator that manages to add intense volume and length to each lash {think falsies effect}, along with one of the deepest black tones I have ever seen! I was so disappointed when I finished this one, as it basically blows every other mascara I have ever tried out of the water. This one right here is my new HG. TOTAL RE-BUY.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that L'OREAL Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in CARBON BLACK {$9.99} makes an appearance in almost every. single. one. of my #motd posts, and that is because I could never, ever live without it. Aside from the insane rich black shade, the pen-like applicator provides optimum control, allowing you to get a crisp, clean wing with minimal effort. What keeps me coming back, however, is the fact that this stuff does not move. I return home each day with my eyeliner looking as perfect as it did when I left the house in the morning - and that's something to take note of! FOREVER RE-BUY.

Michael Kors fragrances just get me, so when Michael Kors Wonderlust Eau de Parfum {$88.00} arrived alongside a recent Sephora order, I basically went to town with it immediately. You guys, Wonderlust is autumn perfection! The blend of sandalwood, almond milk, cashmeran wood, and dianthus envelops you like a warm sweater, making you feel ridiculously cozy, and leaving behind #allthefallfeels. Obsessed does not even begin to describe how I feel about this one - you need to try it for yourself! DEFINITE RE-BUY {when on sale}.

Truth: I only began using hair spray this year to hold beach waves, and wound up purchasing Tresemme TRES Two Hair Spray {$3.49} out of the gate due to affordability; so imagine my sheer shock / joy / surprise when it turned out to be a totally awesome hold hero! But seriously...this stuff is amazing. It doesn't make your hair stiff, sticky, or crunchy when you use it; and it brushes out seamlessly. It also has a v inoffensive fragrance that is nearly discernible, and holds. all. day.. Though I originally purchased this product to use only on days when I was curling / waving my hair; I now use it almost daily on a variety of hairstyles - most notably side braids. TOTAL RE-BUY.

Have you tried any of these products before? Thoughts?

NOTD: OPI Washington D.C. Nail Lacquer Collection in CIA = Color is Awesome

Two coats of OPI Washington D.C. Nail Lacquer Collection in CIA = Color is Awesome. Deep Teal Creme.

Teals don't pop up everyday in nail polish collections, so when they do...let's just say it's something to get v excited about.

Though described as a dusty blue, CIA = Color is Awesome reads deep teal on the nail, and that color is awesome {see what I did there?}, and will appeal greatly to those who dig a vampy nail that isn't the typical plum or black cherry hue.

Formula here is fab - highly pigmented, fantastically fluid, and an absolute breeze to work with!

What nail color are you rocking for #ManicureMonday?
