NOTD: OPI Brazil Beach Sandies I'm Brazil Nuts Over You

Two coats of OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer in I'm Brazil Nuts Over You is a Bright Coral Pink with Purple Shimmer.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I'm Brazil Nuts Over You
is one of those rare polishes actually worthy of the word Caliente! The coral pink color itself is on fire; but add in the purple shimmer and it is just mind-blowing.

The formula here was very similar to What's a Little Rain Forest? in that it was the perfect consistency, and very easy to reach opacity. This may just be the color of the summer!

beverly {trioo optical eyewear review}

I had perfect, 20/20 vision up until my first semester of college when my mandatory school reading and love of leisure reading joined forces to place strain on my eyes and, ultimately, result in my need for vision correction. Contact lenses have been my corrective method of choice ever since due to their unobtrusiveness and, truth be told, simplicity. I mean, ladies, chic glasses are hard to come by, am I right? When TRIOO contacted me with the chance to try out a frame from their Prestige Collection, however, I thought it was time to give specs a second chance. And that is how Beverly entered my life.

Beautiful, isn't she?

Beverly is available in three shades: Cabernet, Pomegranate, and Merlot. I opted for the Cabernet shade for its universal wearability {it has the neutral effect of a basic black mixed with the subtle shimmer and brightness of a rich berry}.

These are the best glasses I have owned since I began wearing glasses. The frame itself is very sophisticated in shape; offering the vibe of a cat eye in a slightly larger aesthetic so that it would fit a variety of face shapes. Additionally, the fit is perfect. Out of the box, I have experienced no pinching, and haven't needed any adjustments to be made; plus the clarity is amazing. I have a different prescription for each eye, and TRIOO was easily able to accommodate that. I am so incredibly impressed with these. Also pertinent...look how fab they would be styled for a night out!

Trioo offers three separate lines of frames - each one featuring different styles and pricepoints that will fit every budget and personality. The Prestige Collection {where I selected Beverly from} caters to elegant and charismatic shapes, and is $97.00 for the frames + lenses + free shipping. The Archipelago Collection is for the hipster at heart, and is $67.00 for the frames + lenses + free shipping. And, last but not least...the 3U Collection, which features lightweight, durable, style-savvy looks for $47.00 for the frames + lenses + shipping.

NOTD: OPI Brazil Beach Sandies You're So Flippy Floppy

Four coats of OPI Brazil Beach Sandies Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer in You're So Flippy Floppy is a Bright Canary Yellow.

You already know about my aversion to yellow polishes; so it should come as no surprise that, while I liked the texture here, I wasn't a huge fan of the color. Nevertheless, it is so perfect for summer.

While What's a Little Rain Forest? dried sparkly; the shimmer in You're So Flippy Floppy is less discernible {though it is there in certain light}. The formula here was thick, but very easy to work with. As someone with longer nails I found that I had to keep layering the polish on to get rid of VNL; however, if you have shorter nails, you can likely get away with two coats.

fuchsia & coral
On their own, fuchsia and coral are not necessarily shades that I gravitate to; but there is something magical that takes place when the two colors are combined in a colorblock fashion, as they were at Monique Lhuillier S/S 14. It's hot and electrifying {so perfect for the warmer summer months ahead}; yet manages to remain chic and sophisticated in the very same breath. Ciaté Dolls House Collection Review

I will never be one to resist cute; so when I spotted the Ciaté Dolls House Collection online, I clicked buy based on the packaging alone. Truth. No regrets here.

The Dolls House Collection could best be described as the epitome of spring. It's a mix of 5 matte pastel shades that dry to a porcelain finish that is glaring and bright yet somehow subdued. It's also a collection that takes the cake for most novel idea to grace the nail polish scene. Let's take a look at the swatches...

Paper Doll is a Porcelain Matte White. This color right here? Ob-sessed {and not just because I received so. many. compliments. while wearing}. Paper Doll is basically the best white polish I have ever used. In a way, the brightness of it makes it look as if you painted your nails with White-Out; yet it manages to be ridiculously chic and so attention-commanding. The formula is amazing. Typically, pastels and white polishes are an absolute pain to work with - streaky, sheer...Paper Doll doesn't suffer from any of that. The strokes are even and opaque; and the dry time is literally 45 seconds or less. This is the white polish to buy. This is 2 coats.

Baby Doll is a Porcelain Matte Peach. My camera wants to read this color as a neon; it's not. Baby Doll is a gorgeous pastel peach that possesses that coveted bright-yet-pale combination making it just as perfect for summer as it is for spring. It reminds me quite a bit of one of my all-time favorite polishes: Sinful Colors Poudre - only in matte form.

Baby Doll was slightly more difficult to work with than Ciaté Paper Doll. While it wasn't sheer; it was a bit patchy, and harder to even out due to the fact that it dries so quickly {as you can see on my pointer finger, because of the fast dry time, the polish dragged and clumped a bit}. I still found the color to be beautiful; but would recommend doing each coat as quickly as possible to avoid dragging. This is 3 coats.

Poppet is a Porcelain Matte Lilac. Lilac is a hard shade to nail {pardon the pun}. I feel as if I always wind up with a color that is too dark for my liking; but Poppet is perfect. Poppet is a true lilac {that is slightly lighter IRL than it appears here}. It harbors a white undertone that keeps it from becoming your run-of-the-mill lavender or fall-apropos pale purple - personally, I feel this has a lot to do with the matte finish, which is slightly chalky; but keeps the pastel vibe in check.

Formula-wise, Poppet was identical to Paper Doll - right down to the streak-free, insanely simple to work with qualities. If lilac polish is on your list of spring must-buys; this is the one you need to add to your shopping cart. This is 2 coats.

Sweet Pea is a Porcelain Matte Pistachio. This shade is so necessary if you love mint polishes. It has the freshness of a mint; but has white undertones which make it more muted and soft then, say, Essie Mint Candy Apple. My love for this color is infinite; but the formula...Not gonna lie...very frustrating to work with. It had the same refusal to even out issues that I experienced with Baby Doll; only at a more magnified level. Lets just say there was a lot of sighing taking place during application. This is 3 coats.

Doll Face is a Porcelain Matte Nude. This is the color that I thought I wouldn't like, and I wound up loving it. For a nude shade, it has a very strong presence due to the matte finish - something that you don't usually find with skintone polishes. Out of the entire collection, Doll Face had the best formula. It went on smoothly and evenly with absolutely no trouble - two factors that only made me love it more. This is 2 coats.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I've read so many negative reviews regarding this collection; so I'm in the minority when I say that I, personally, love it. The colors are gorgeous; as is the way they are presented {dollhouse...le sigh}. That said, there are certain aspects that may turn some people off; the first being dry time. The fast dry time of these polishes is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it's awesome to be able to complete your mani so quickly {each coat tends to dry completely in 45 seconds or less}; on the other, it makes it difficult to get a smooth finish, because the polish immediately wants to drag, which creates patches and unevenness {never a good thing}.

Wear time...I change my nail polish every few days, so this isn't a deal breaker for me; but I think that most people will find the wear-time to be the most aggravating thing about the collection. Even with an amazing base coat, by day 2 or 3, little cracks start running through the polish, and soon start falling off in big chips, leaving your nails looking, for lack of better words, seriously heinous. This has to do with the fact that you are not wearing a top coat, so the polish has no protection.

The only thing I can suggest to counteract this issue is to use a standard top coat, which would create a shiny finish; or try a matte top coat which would give you the same matte finish, but with the added protection of top coat.

Would I recommend this collection? Absolutely. The colors are beautiful; and as long as you can deal with the formula and chipping issues, I'd say it's a must-have for spring.

NOTD: Ciaté Paint Pot Poppet

Two coats of Ciaté Paint Pot in Poppet from the Dolls House Collection. Porcelain Matte Lilac.

I love the name of this one - it makes me think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You know, how Spike always used to call Drusilla poppet? That sounds so fan-girly. Moving on...

Lilac is a hard shade to nail {pardon the pun}. I feel as if I always wind up with a color that is too dark for my liking; but Poppet is perfect.

pretty pinks {LORAC Lip Lustre Gloss Review}

LORAC was kind enough to send me two of their Lip Lustre Lip Gloss shades last week, and ladies...I'm in love. To the left is Rose Lustre {a pale pink}, and to the right is Fuchsia Lustre {a slightly deeper pink}.

I'm not a fan of a statement lip, so I really appreciate the sheerness of these shades, because they offer a hint of color, without competing with my personal beauty focal point...the eyes. They're infused with a lot of sparkle, so they do give great glimmery shine to the lips when applied, and make your pout appear more plump {which I personally adore}.

The formula on these is really amazing. It's not sticky; but has enough of a tackiness to it to allow for longtime wear {we're talking 6+ hours} - either alone {my preferred way}, or layered over a lipstick for a bolder look.

Something I have to rave about is the scent. Two words: Cotton. Candy. Yes. These smell exactly like cotton candy; which is incredibly fitting because their shades {at least in the tubes} totally mimic that. The scent is light, however; so if you're not a fan of overwhelming fragrances in your makeup products, these would work {very well} for you.

I favor the Rose Lustre. Which shade would you love to try?

{beauty board} sun-kissed skin

Untitled #553
Lighten your cosmetic bag by replacing multiple beauty products with one makeup miracle: bronzer. Sweep it over your eyelids, cheeks, and lips for an all-over monochromatic beauty look inspired by the runway {and perfect for the summer months}! Here, 5 of my personal faves for achieving soft, sun-kissed skin:

bronzer
ONE: TARTE in PARK AVENUE PRINCESS {$29.00} TWO: LORAC in LIGHT BRONZE SHIMMER {$32.00} THREE: MAYBELLINE in LIGHT BRONZE {$9.99} FOUR: NARS in LAGUNA {$38.00} FIVE: WET 'N' WILD FERGIE in ROSE GOLDEN GODDESS {$5.99}

TARTE Mineral Powder Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess is your new bronzer BFF if you love a natural product that provides pure gorgeous, healthy, glowy skin results. This one is also ideal if you have sensitive skin, as it is oil-, fragrance-, and talc-free. LORAC's TANtalizer Baked Bronzer in Light Bronze Shimmer is one of my most highly recommended products. The light shimmer within makes it perfect for multi-tasking {I absolutely love it as an eyeshadow}; plus, you can use it wet or dry depending on how much time you have - either way the results are stunning!

MAYBELLINE's Master Hi-Light Powdered Bronzer in Light Bronze is one of the latest additions to my beauty bag - and quickly climbing to my favorite products list. The pigmentation is incredible; and blends amazingly well. I swirl a brush through the entire palette to get a nice mix of the four colors within; but you can also pick up each color individually {using a smaller brush, of course} for a different effect.

NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna is one of those buy into the hype products. It works on all skintones {don't let the dark color in the pan scare you; it is amazing on fair skin}, lends the perfect amount of warmth to the face, and layers beautifully. If you're looking to make a good investment, this is it. I, personally, like a little shimmer in my face products; if you're the same way, then the WET 'N' WILD FERGIE To Reflect Shimmer Palette in Rose Golden Goddess should be on your radar. The shimmer is visible without being over the top; and the overall shade leans more orange than brown, so it adds warmth and glow to the face, as opposed to making your skin look muddy. Out of all of the products here, this is my favorite for using as an eyeshadow.

NOTD: Ciaté Paint Pot in Ivory Queen

Three coats of Ciaté Paint Pot in Ivory Queen from the Complexion Collection. Nude / Peach Creme with Subtle Gold Shimmer.

Ivory Queen is similar to Ciaté Members Only. The shimmer is less discernible here, however, and the color itself is slightly darker {more peachy pink}.

This is a great neutral shade for all skintones. The café au lait vibe of the color makes it extremely wearable; while the nearly invisible shimmer adds that extra something something that makes it a must if you love the nearly naked nail look. Formula here is perfect - creamy, non-streaky, and smooth.

OPI Announces a NEW Line of Sparkling Shades with Spotlight on Glitter

Endless Sparklebilities!

Glitter takes center stage with the launch of Spotlight on Glitter, a new collection of OPI’s best and brightest sparkling lacquers. The line showcases OPI’s most popular metallic and holographic lacquers in rainbow, gold, silver and pink iridescent confetti; these glitters may be worn alone or layered over any nail color for a dazzling effect.

“Glitter isn’t just for wearing on New Year’s Eve! Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean you can’t still wear sparkle,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP. “Try creating an ombré effect or accent nails by adding a layer of sparkle for a fun night on the town.”

Spotlight on Glitter by OPI includes the following:

You Pink Too Much
I’m obsessed with this rosy glitter set in a shimmery base.

Desperately Seeking Sequins
This prismatic glitter on a backdrop of shimmer is just what you’re looking for.

Rose of Light
A million points of light radiate from this rosy gold and rainbow sparkle.

I Reached My Gold!
The cache of gold confetti in this clear rainbow glitter is all yours!

Chasing Rainbows
Your pursuit of gorgeous has won you this rainbow with pot-of-gold highlights.

Blush Hour
Sorry, gotta blush... this super dense fuchsia glitter is way too charming.

These can be used with Glitter Off -- a new, peel-able base coat that allows for quick and easy removal when applied beneath any glitter shade. To remove, use a cuticle stick to gently push and peel the glitter lacquer off the nail. No nail polish remover is necessary for this final step.

Spotlight on Glitter by OPI nail lacquers feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. These six glitter shades and Glitter Off will be available March 2014 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.

ZOYA You Knew Me When Limited Edition Nail Polish Trio Review

Apologies are seriously in order because Penguin Group was kind enough to send me an Advance Reader Copy of Emily Leibert's You Knew Me When and corresponding You Knew Me When Limited Edition Nail Polish Trio from ZOYA last September, and I am only just now getting around to the review. Why? To be honest...I wasn't feeling the colors.

You Knew Me When, the book, is the perfect, chick lit / guilty pleasure book for spring break / summer vacation. It has the makings of a chick flick {never a bad thing}. As for the polish...each shade in this trio is named after one of the characters {an idea that I love}. I'll start with the color I, oddly enough, liked the most.

Katherine Hill is a Vibrant Red Creme. The reason why it's odd for me to name Katherine Hill as my favorite shade from this collection? It's red. And, if you know me, you know that red is one of my least favorite nail colors. So yes, this being my favorite is a bit of a shock. Katherine Hill is darker IRL than it appears in these pictures - more of a deep crimson. The formula is very easy to work with; however, it did try to pool around my cuticles. This is 2 coats.

Laney Marten is a Forest Green Creme. This is the shade that was the biggest letdown for me. It's described everywhere as an emerald green, so I was super excited to try it. Well, the color is definitely not emerald. It could best be described as forest green; but even that wouldn't be completely accurate, as it looks black with just the tiniest hint of green in it. Very disappointing. Again, good formula; though it kept pooling around my cuticles. This is 1 coat.

Luella Hancock is a Deep Plum Creme. This one is very similar to China Glaze Urban Night. Urban Night required more coats for opacity; however, I preferred the formula and color over this, as it was glossier. This is 1 coat.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I feel so negative saying it, but this trio is very meh to me. If the colors had been true to the swatches released in the promotional materials, I feel as if I would have loved this set - but they weren't; so I didn't.

The three shades included, while sophisticated, chic, and great for the fall / winter seasons, were just very standard, and not unique. I would have liked to see more variety - perhaps even a color adapted from the book cover {a peachy orange or blue}. Instead, the three colors look very similar to one another on the nail - especially Laney Martin and Luella Hancock. Additionally, I found the formula a little strange. The opacity was great, and I absolutely loved the brush; but the whole pooling around the cuticles thing was an issue with the entire collection, and an absolute pain to deal with.

That said...I love the idea of book / nail polish collabs, and would not mind seeing many more in the future.

NOTE: Apologies for the awkward hand / finger placement in my swatches of Luella Hancock and Laney Martin. Those images were taken late last year - I have since gotten better with my swatch pictures.

What book / book series would you love to see a nail polish collection created for?
