Thrifty Thursday: Balmain Stretch Urban Studded Gladiators for Less

Kitty cats, to your left you will find Balmain’s blissful Stretch Urban Studded Gladitors – the very same ones seen styling the feet of Lindsay Lohan and Rihanna; to the right prepare to fall in lust with Type Z’s tantalizing Lorry.

While the luscious Lorry has an ever so slightly higher heel than the Balmain beauties; for a mere $100.00, as opposed to the $1,025.21 price tag of the Balmain’s, they are a nearly identical offering – for a fraction of the price!

What’s your stand…will you splurge, or save?

♥ Fashionably Moi! ♥

Wearing: Xhilaration Military Jacket in Green via Target; Forever 21 Cherish Crepe Chiffon Dress in Taupe; Pelle Moda Yaritza Platform Sandal in Cuoio; Susan Lucci Prim and Proper Round Stone and Simulated Pearl Cluster Ring in Goldtone.

Reading: Madame Pamplemousse and Her Incredible Edibles by Rupert Kingfisher. Literally one of the most enchanting books I have ever laid hands on. I can’t say what is more charming…Kingfisher’s prose or the irrésistible illustrations by Sue Hellard. L'aimer!

Glamourizing: Nails: OPI Sanguine – 1/4th of the OPI Go Goth! Halloween 2010 Mini Collection. I basically need a full-size bottle of this shade - tout de suite! Utterly phenom! Lips: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Nude Lustre. Eyes: mark Twinklebelle in Gold – just as effective on one’s eyes as it is on one’s entire face and shoulders. Magnifique!

Listening: Cold Hearted by Paula Abdul. Old school Paula; oh, how j’adore you!

Adoring: Orly’s Cosmic FX Collection. Though I’ve only purchased Space Cadet and Lunar Eclipse myself, I can assure you that there is only one way to describe these luscious lacquers…out of this world. L'amour, l'amour, l'amour! The fast approach of my préféré holiday…Thanksgiving! In my dreams I shall be wearing BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Oversized Sweater Dress; and I’ll whip up the perfect Pumpkin Cheesecake in a Gingersnap Crust. As I said…in…my…dreams. Floral Knit Headbands a la Whitney Port’s Anthropologie pretty.

Watching: I Know What You Did Last Summer. Apparemment I am on some sort of 90s teen suspense/horror film kick; but in all seriousness, it’s Sarah Michelle Gellar pre-Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame…what’s not to love?

Desiring: Kenneth Cole New York ‘No Pain Grosgrain’ Satchel. In my mind this is the pièce de résistance of purses; the holy grail of handbags, if you will. I don’t believe I have ever desired any one item as much as I desire this chic carryall at this very moment - besoin, amour, convoiter…! The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season. Un petit voice within has convinced me that this show is destined to become my new obsession. James Jeans’ Twiggy 5 Pocket Legging Jeans – I mourir at the color! If only my size weren’t sold out…I would have made these beautés mine long ago!

Quoting: Coco Chanel - “The most courageous act is to think for yourself. Aloud.”

Awaiting: mark Glow Baby Glow Luxe Hook Up Lip Gloss in Sun Luxe and mark Pro Gloss Hook Up Plumping Lip Shine in Spice and Sexy. The scorching summer heat was extrêmement unkind to my lip gloss collection, resulting in nearly every tube having to be thrown away; therefore, the replacement process has begun!

But enough about moi; let’s talk about…vous. Time to give me the lowdown on your life, lovers! What are you up to this week?

That's A Wrap!

Kitty cats, the power of the accessory is a magical thing. It can turn drab to fab; blasé to brilliant; mundane to magnificent – all in zero to sixty seconds. And when the accessory in question is that of a handmade silk scarf or shawl a la the majestic marvels found at Women Clothing Today, the mythical powers work twofold, for such an item not only contributes un dash of chic elegance to one’s look du jour; but has the capability of shrouding the wearer with the type of warmth synonymous with a hug from a cute boy.

As the queen of coquettish cosmopolitanism herself, one Miss Coco Chanel, once said, “It is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory of fashion that heralds your arrival and prolongs your departure.” The brains behind Women Clothing Today have taken these words to heart; handcrafting sophisticated styles – like the airy # 210166 and the brightly hued # 210161 – to keep one looking every bit the fashionable femme fatale; whilst retaining sleek savoir-faire.

Loop # 210167 through the handles of a beloved black satchel for a splash of color; toss # 210159 over your luxurious little black dress to allow your playful personality to shine through; or simply stop by the Silk Scarves Blog for a handful of other styling tips that will transform your closet.

Darlings, no matter how you wear it, a scarf is ready, willing, and able to wow your wardrobe. The question is, what scarf would you like to take home? Better yet, how will you be styling it once it arrives on your front porch?

While the Spiegel stunner harbors a snap closure, as opposed to the magnetic opening of the magnificent McCartney; for a mere $49.00, in comparison to the $995.00 price tag of the McCartney marvel, it is the perfect compromise for the frugal fashionista. And, given the fact that McCartney’s line is cruelty-free, both are constructed out of faux-leather; therefore, by snatching up the less costly of the two, you aren’t forsaking quality – rather, you are simply holding fast to an extra $946.00!

Smitten Saturday

Sugar & Spice…because even the sweetest of the sweet knows that there are times when a splash of sass is precisely what the doctor – er…retail therapist – ordered; and there is no better way to add just that to one’s wardrobe – in an affordable fashion, of course! – than via an ambrosial over-the-knee sock from Sweet Marcel. Bright colors mingle with feminine patterns; saucy backseams find themselves splayed upon pastel hues; and Parisian architecture is recreated in the form of charming cozy knits gracing one’s tootsies! Allow Sophia to peek out of your Regent Savoy Quilted Glossy Boots from Hunter Boots; layer Joelle or Julia over your black SPANX Tight End Tights for a bit of extra dimension; or rock the demure Victoria with your Graham & Spencer Winter Silk Blouse for a Marie Antoinette-approved look. How will you wear your girls, my loves?

The Little Black Dress, The Little Black Dress, or…The Little Black Dress…because a feisty femme fatale such as yourself knows that a closet sans little black dress is no closet at all; luckily there is 22 Ways to Say Black to reinvigorate one’s barren wardrobe. Taking place on September 20th at Philips de Pury in New York City; 22 Ways to Say Black is a glamorous charity auction featuring a total of twenty-two custom little black dresses crafted by everyone from Diane von Furstenberg to Fendi and Armani. Each piece is encrusted with shimmering Swarovski Elements; but the truly best feature is the fact that 100% of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and France’s La Ligue Nationale Contre Le Cancer. As you already know, kitty cats; charity never goes out of style!

Once You Pop…because the glamourai that you and I both know you are is aware of the peu fact that indulging in sweets is a heavenly experience synonymous with coming into possession of front-row seats to Marc by Marc Jacobs; thus the reason that your selection of desserts must be equally as divine as you yourself – enter…Browniepops. Part lollipop, part brownie…Browniepops are a hoity-toity conglomerate of moist, chocolatey goodness packed onto a stick sucker-style; an aesthetic that is equal parts scrummy and perfect for keeping your pretty paws clean (so no worries about finding sticky fingerprints on your new Madewell Woodcut Print Blouse!). Tell me lovers, which flavor are you eager to savor…cream cheese swirl, caramel, toffee, or perhaps a seasonal hors-d'oeuvre to welcome in fall 2010?

Dressed to Kill…because the fashionable femme fatale that is vous knows that a pretty party dress or sassy special occasion frock is not a maybe, not a might, but an absolute must for one’s wondrous wardrobe; and there is no more splendrous location to pick one up than David’s Bridal. Ball gowns for the debutante; leg-baring hemlines for the coquettish flirt; leopard print for the wild child. As Coco Chanel once said, “Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress.” The question is…which dress will you be donning, darlings?

Smell the Season…because a Pumpkin Spice Latte may bring the taste of fall to the interior of your toned tummy; but sometimes it’s the scent of autumn that you crave – and Crater Lake Company’s Warm Pumpkin Bread Body Scrub is just the thing to give it to you. Made up of a blend of pumpkin flakes, pumpkin oil, pure cane sugar, shea butter, and other yummy ingredients; the Warm Pumpkin Bread Body Scrub will keep the smell of autumn lingering around you from morning to night. But be warned dolls; you may be plagued with the urge to indulge in pumpkin-based desserts while wearing!

What were you smitten with this week?

Fashionably yours!

Always A Bridesmaid; But I Want to Be A Bride!

Mon chers, perhaps it can be attributed, if ever so slightly, to the bombardment of television programs such as My Fair Wedding or the highly-addictive Bridezillas; but there is something quite thrilling about weddings. The planning, the romance; but, above all else, the dress. In the words of Douglas William Jerrold, “After all there is something about a wedding-gown prettier than in any other gown in the world.” Admit it, kitty cats; truer words have never been spoken – especially if the wedding dresses in question are the ones crafted by Priscilla of Boston.

The covetable creations of Parsons School of Design Graduate Tracy Uomoleale; the Priscilla of Boston Collection juxtaposes between classique aesthetics a la Style 4602 and 4613, and edgier, avant-garde looks such as the petal-adorned Style 4416. Though one thing that each and every design retains is the ability to make the wearer feel like a glamorous goddess on her big day.

Darlings, despite the fact that I am nowhere near ready to say “I do,” or scoop one of these blissful beauties up for my own using – one would need a très, très cute boy in her life (and perhaps a jaw-dropping diamond from Tiffany’s on her finger) for that to occur; I cannot help but to find myself salivating over the shimmering, floor-sweeping lovely that is Style 4508 or the bow-adorned Style 4606. Merely gazing upon these majestic marvels is enough to make one wish that her big day was fast approaching, mais non?

You know which gowns have grabbed my attention; now tell me which one you’d love to walk down the aisle in. Don’t be shy, darlings; I know that one or two has had to have caught your eye – now dish!

Glamourizing: Nails: Forever 21 Love and Beauty Pink Petals Nail Polish – this is honestly THE perfect Barbie pink – as Aqua said…“I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world…”! Lips: Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Slice of Heaven. Eyes: mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Biscotti.

Listening: Round & Round by Selena Gomez & The Scene. I could attribute my love of this song to the fact that it plays every single time I’m strolling through the aisles of Target; but I think it is more appropriate to simply admit the truth…it is incredibly catchy and addicting, therefore j’adore.

Adoring: American Apparel’s Shawl Cardigan. Since this arrived two weeks ago - courtesy of American Apparel - I have taken to wearing it nonstop despite the 90+-degree heat – it makes me feel like a cross between Patrick Dennis’ Auntie Mame and a devastating French woman who flits through her Parisian apartment and brunches on flaky croissants. ♥ Fashionably Moi! ♥ - oui, this very series; I have far too much fun putting it together each week! Sofia Coppola movie marathons – she is a genius, plain and simple.

Watching: Eloise at Christmastime. Let’s put it in simpler terms, shall we, mes amours? Kay Thompson’s beloved if not a bit precocious Eloise + New York City – specifically, The Plaza Hotel - at Christmastime + un petit romance between the fiery six-year-old and a born prince = perfection personified. Do watch it tout de suite if you have yet to, my loves!

Awaiting: Alloy’s Veronique Pendant Necklace. This accessory alone will be responsible for dressing up all of my basic tees come fall - amour to the tenth power!

But enough about moi; let’s talk about…vous. Time to give me the lowdown on your life, lovers! What are you up to this week?

While there is no doubt that JEMMA is slightly paler in hue, and lacks the black laces of the Balmain beauties; for just $179.95, as opposed to the $1,595.00 asking price of their haute couture counterpart, they allow the budget fashionista to indulge in a little runway style at a price that is far more friendly to one’s overused AmEx!

Are you having a tightwad moment darlings, or are you plagued with a craving to splurge?

Fashionably yours!

Sunday Steals: Fendi Leather Spy Bag on a Budget

Kitty cats, on the left we have Fendi’s luxurious Leather Spy Bag, an accessory that has literally overtaken the celebrity world, having been seen upon the arms of everyone from Jessica Simpson to Hilary Duff, Gwen Stefani to Ashlee Simpson, Kim Kardashian to Ashley Tisdale, and countless others; on the right we have Handbag Heaven’s Classic Secret Agent Bag.

Though the Handbag Heaven pretty is constructed out of faux leather, as opposed to real; for just $42.46, in comparison to the $2,250.00 required to take the Fendi home, it is every bit as capable of bringing the frugal fashionista a splash of star style on a budget. Plus, it’s available in six colors (black, red, mustard yellow, pewter, cream, and blue) – so you can style yourself with a different one nearly every single day of the week!

Your turn loves…will you be thrifty or suckered into putting on your spendthrift cap?

Fashionably yours!

Nothing But Pennies In My Pocket

Darlings, if you know anything at all about me, you are aware of the fact that leaving the house with nothing but pennies in my pocket would be a mortal sin in my book. After all, what is a girl to do without a half-dozen lip glosses to keep her credit cards and other essentials company while on the go? Nevertheless, I thought it would be a fun way to introduce all of you to…les contents of my handbag.

Since April 2010, I have been asked numerous times to participate in this peu activity; and finally I am – better late than never right, my loves? Let us start with le handbag itself.

The Bag
My current carryall is mark’s I’m No Slouch Bag. It was love at first sight when I spotted this bag on mark’s website; thus when mark offered to send it to me, I was thrilled. Though the bag is tres glam Online, in person it is even more so. The black and bronze tones whirl and twirl amongst one another creating the perfect shimmery shade for fall – making it versatile enough to accompany you on an afternoon shopping excursion, or chic evening out with the girls; but it was the shape which truly reeled me in. The well-constructed folds create an avant-garde, origami-inspired aesthetic; while the relaxed style creates a sassy slouch that boho belle extraordinaire, Ms. Serena van der Woodsen herself, would highly approve of. Final word on le bag? J’adore! Let’s move on, shall we kitty cats?

Inside the Bag
As they say, “The handbag is an extension of the woman’s personality”; and the contents inside say quite a bit about who she is. These are the items that you will find in my handbag from day to day.

Oliver Peoples Chelsea Sunglasses: I was quite apprehensive about ordering these in the beginning, as the frames are so large; but they are now an obsession of mine – they provide instant glamour to any look, and make me feel as if I’m off to attend Woodstock!
Mossimo Wallet: Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “A place for everything, everything in its place” is the ideal way to describe this wallet – it is perfection.
White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor Perfume: You can’t help but to sparkle when wearing this scent!
mark Glow Baby Glow Hook Up Lip Gloss and Shine Tubes Hook Up Lip Gloss: The hook up connector allows you to connect two different shades, so you can carry multiple colors in a more compact fashion. I’m currently toting around Peek-A-Boo, Sweet Talk, Buttercream Brioche, and Sugared Almond. They smell yummy and look gorgeous on – plus they’re long-lasting!
16GB iPod nano: In the past, whenever I have left the house without this, I end up being stuck somewhere for hours on end with nothing to do; therefore, it now goes everywhere I do.
BlackBerry Curve 8900: One of my BFFs. And no, I’m not joking. I would be lost without my BB!
Les Liaisons Dangereuses: Though a heavy addition to le bag, I never leave home without a book – it is the perfect form of company to fall afternoons spent lazing about a park bench with a Pumpkin Spice Latte close by.

NOTE: I may have accidentally forgotten to include my beloved iPod and BlackBerry in the aforementioned picture; therefore, let's just pretend that they're both camera shy and leave it at that...agreed?

There you have it, lovers; the inside scoop on the contents of Café Fashionista’s handbag! I now challenge each and every one of you to allow us all a peek inside your handbag. After all, there is no better way to get to know a glamorous gal than by gazing into the depths of her purse!

Thrifty Thursday: Report Bowie Boots on a Budget

Darlings, to your left you will find Report’s blissful Bowie Boot; to the right prepare to fall in love with R2’s Bauer Bootie.

Though Bauer is constructed out of synthetic letter and proffers a suede wedge, as opposed to the true leather crafting of the Bowie; for just $49.95, in comparison to the $130.00 needed to call Bowie your own, they are a fabulous alternative for the frugalista – and allow you to take home not just the black, but the beige, as well!

What’s the verdict, lovelies…will you be thrifty or spend, spend, spend?

♥ Fashionably Moi! ♥

So what is Fashionably Moi!, you ask? Café Fashionista’s new weekly series that will give you the lowdown on everything I’m currently up to – from what’s on my nails to what’s on my nightstand. Let’s begin, shall we, my loves?!

Wearing: Black floral Xhilaration dress from Target; Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Luella Zip Wedge Sandals in Black (still searching for my size in Cognac!); House of Harlow 1960 Key Cocktail Ring; Hot Pink Floral Ring from Forever 21.

Reading: The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett – Mary Engelbreit’s Classic Library Edition, that is. The story is so much more charming with Engelbreit’s whimsical illustration on the cover!

Glamourizing: Nails: Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers layered over OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark to create what Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere has titled Poison Apple. Lips: mark’s Glow Baby Glow Hook Up Lip Gloss in Tease (sadly, this shade appears to have been discontinued) layered over mark’s Pro Glimmer Hook Up Lip Powder in Peek – perfect for creating a subtly frosted lip. Eyes: mark’s i-glimmer Illuminating Eye Color in Bronzed (another product that has tragically been discontinued!).

Listening: Baby’s Romance by Chris Garneau. I like to think of it as a lullaby for grown-ups. Listen to it immediately, si vous s'il vous plait - you will love!

Adoring: Double-finger rings. Scrangie – literally THE best nail polish blog ever; she makes me want to buy more luscious lacquers than a girl could ever possibly need! White Hot Chocolate – the name says it all.

Watching: Gossip Girl Season 2 on DVD. I’ll be honest; one Ms. Serena van der Woodsen’s diva-tude leaves much to be desired – bring back the girl I adore from Season 1!

Desiring: Hard Candy’s Just Nails with Ring in Mr. Wrong – I have searched high and low for this color and cannot find it anywhere! Belle by Sigerson Morrison Stretch Mid Thigh Wedge Boots – swoon; be still my heart! Valley of the Dolls - j’adore the book by Jacqueline Susann; therefore, it is high time to see the big screen version.

Quoting: Henry Emerson Fosdick - “I would rather live in a world where my life is surrounded by mystery than live in a world so small that my mind could comprehend it.”

Awaiting: Merona Musetta Ruffled Booties in Black. Presently I am on quite the bootie kick – no pun intended; thus, I need these in my life…luckily, they should be here any day now!

But enough about moi; let’s talk about…vous. Time to give me the lowdown on your life, lovers! What are you up to this week?

Fashionably yours!
