{what's in my} ipsy september 2016 glam bag!

I have been counting down the seconds for the arrival of fall beauty bags, and finallyfinallyfinally the first has arrived! My August ipsy bag was pure brilliance, but September's bag actually tops it because the included highlight stick is faaaar more my style!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with ipsy, it is a beauty subscription service that costs $10 per month {awesome deal IMO}, and consists of a collectible makeup bag {can also double as a clutch} along with 5 beauty samples that are customized to your personal beauty profile {which you can change/update at anytime}. I love getting subscription boxes, but don't have a ton of extra cash to spare, so I find ipsy to be the best value as each month's bags are adorable, the products are of fantastic quality, and their stylists are top-notch {and some of my fave beauty bloggers}. That being said, let's get to the bag!

September's theme was GLAMAZON {a sentiment we can allllll get excited about!}. Inside my bag was a travel size Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme, mini trèStiQue Perfect Multipurpose Highlight Stick in MALDIVES LUMINESCENT, full size Be A Bombshell Nail Polish in HOLY FUCHSIA, travel size Eva NYC Forget Me Knot Dry Conditioner, and sample size NUXE Crème Fraîche De Beauté Soothing and Rehydrating Fresh Mask.

I lovelovelove receiving new polish brands in my ipsy bags, so when Holy Fuchsia appeared in my bag I was beyond! Not only was it a color that would rock for fall; but it was also from a beauty brand that I had yet to try. Double win! Holy Fuchsia doesn't fit my personal thoughts on what a fuchsia shade should be, as it leans more raisin berry than pink purple; but it sure makes a great hue for autumn! I liked the formula here. It's fluid and smooth, but can look a bit thin on the nail, so you have to use an extra coat for complete opacity. What I didn't like was the smell. Maybe I got a bad bottle, as I didn't see anyone else mention this anywhere, but the smell is horrible - almost reminiscent of an extermination smell. I'm not sure what would cause that, but maybe it had something to do with the fact that my bottle was already open when I received it. Whatever the reason, I was able to almost entirely mask the smell with top coat, but it's still strange. Ho hum.

As a die-hard Too Faced fan, I wanted to capital L love Too Faced's Lip Injection Extreme {after all, who doesn't covet a perfectly plump pout?}, but I can't say that I liked it. At all. While the glossy finish and smell {a mix of strawberries and Red Bull} is v nice, the whole plumping effect isn't what it seems. It burns and tingles from the time of application to about 10 minutes after {something I can deal with}, but once it plumps the lips {and it does plump them nicely}, it leaves a raw-looking red ring around your entire lipline that looks like wind burn or severe chapping that can't be covered up {even with concealer}. Obvi not a good look. Maybe it's just me, as I have slightly sensitive skin, but I wouldn't recommend. Womp womp.

Dry shampoo I've heard of, but dry conditioner? I'm a total newbie to that one, so clearly was excited to try Eva NYC's Forget Me Knot Dry Conditioner. I don't typically use dry anything as I wash my hair every. single. day. {at least during the week}, but I thought it would be interesting to give it a whirl on the weekend when I was just hanging around the house. Truth: I really dug this. It added shine and volume to my hair that I usually don't achieve unless I'm washing. Bonus: it smells amazing. Personally, I think you could use this without the accompaniment of dry shampoo {like I did}, as the results are v similar. I probably wouldn't re-buy; but if you're a dry shampoo / conditioner fanatic, I think you'd like it.

You ladies allll know about my undying love for highlighter, so you can imagine how excited I was to un-bag trèStiQue's Perfect Multipurpose Highlight Stick in MALDIVES LUMINESCENT. True story: I almost used my ipsy points to get this product as an add-on last month, so I'm thinking fate is at play, yes? Aaaanyway, I just about died when I applied this to my skin - that glow! This is just two light strokes of Maldives Luminescent on non-primed skin and it is magically delicious! It applies creamy, adding a more subtle glow than some of the powder products out there. I'm obsessed with how it glides on, and doesn't crease after long periods of wear. Out of every highlight product I have received from ipsy, this is my hands down favorite!

Another bag, another face mask. I seriously don't understand why I receive face masks in all of my ipsy bags, but I'm seriously over it. NUXE Crème Fraîche De Beauté Soothing and Rehydrating Fresh Mask is a light moisturizer that feels creamy, and doesn't weigh down the face. I left it on my face for 10 minutes and washed it off to super soft skin. It's a nice product, but I don't feel I'd use it often as I'm happy with my usual face regimen.

NOTD: OPI Washington D.C. Nail Lacquer Collection in Kerry Blossom

Three coats of OPI Washington D.C. Nail Lacquer Collection in Kerry Blossom. Plum Creme.

Now that is what I'm talking about!

Kerry Blossom is the type of shade I gravitate towards every. single. fall. which makes it a total standout in this collection! I love the almost black but not feel of the color, which is fantastically vampy yet fully apropos for the season of harvest.

Formula here was amazing. I did find it to appear slightly patchy on the nail, so it needed an extra coat to bring it to full opacity.

What nail color are you rocking for #ManicureMonday?

august 2016 empties!

Clearly July was a slooow month for hitting pan and such, because for August I have quite the haul of empties to share with you!
Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment {$7.99} has been one of my Holy Grail skin products for years. I have never actually had acne, but I credit this stuff for keeping my skin clear. Whenever I feel even the possible making of a pimple, I apply a dab of this on top before going to bed, and it literally zaps it away. For clear skin purposes I also use this nightly on my chin, forehead, nose, and smile lines to dry out potential pimples before they start - it never irritates my sensitive skin, and is super cost-effective. DEFINITE RE-BUY.

When I found this deluxe sample of Marc Jacobs DAISY Luminous Body Lotion {$45.00} included in one of my Sephora orders, I was sososo excited to try it; but after having used every. last. drop. I have to admit something that places me in the minority of consumers: I didn't like it. At all. Don't get me wrong, I loved the scent, and didn't mind the slight shimmer; but I could not stand the texture, which was thin and runny, and made me feel like I had wet hands. I tried to acclimate myself to it over time, but I just could not get used to that feeling after application. NOT a re-buy.

You're about to start seeing a trend regarding my choice of skin products - I always opt for Neutrogena. Evidence: Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 45 {$10.99}. Before discovering this sunscreen {which has become another Holy Grail for me}, I was scared to apply anything to my face for fear that it would cause irritation or breakouts; then I tried this on a whim and never looked back. I use this daily, applying it underneath my makeup, and it is perfection. My face never gets burned by the sun, it applies non-greasy, it's fragrance-free, and it dries in seconds! FOREVER RE-BUY {I recommend buying the twin pack}.

I am highly opinionated about lip products, so when I received 2B Colours' Hydrastick in ROSE {c/o} {$4.99} in the mail, I was skeptical about how it would work. Fast forward three months and I've finished the tube and can't stop raving! Rose is the lightest color offering, adding just the tiniest hint of pink to your natural lip color {just the way I like it}, but it's hydrating powers are pure magic. I applied this to my lips every. single. night. before bed, and it was still glossy and intact {i.e. hadn't worn off} on my lips each morning when I woke up. This stuff is positively brilliant, and makes chapped lips a thing of the past! DEFINITE RE-BUY.

I have had love/hate relationships with far too many base coats over the years, but OPI's Infinite Shine 1 Primer Base Coat {c/o} {$12.50} is one that I plan on loving forever. This is the first base coat that I have ever used that dries quickly, never bubbles, and protects nails from almost all staining. Additionally, it never peels, and doesn't feel sticky - two issues I've encountered with loads of other base coats in the past. TOTAL RE-BUY {I'm already on my second bottle}.

I bought a sample size of SEXY HAIR Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner {$17.95} a few years back, then forgot about it; but when I fiiiinally got around to trying it, I fell in love, and immediately bought the full size. I spray this all over my hair after washing, and I find that it tames the frizz, which makes my hair color look richer. For me, the downside is that you go through this stuff fast, and given the almost-$20 pricetag, can become a bit pricey. That said, it has become a part of my hair routine, so I don't want to stop using it. Luckily, ULTA offers this on sale at least once a month, so I'm planning on stocking up when sale prices are offered. ABSOLUTE RE-BUY {when on sale}.

When I first started buying e.l.f.'s Nail Polish Remover Pads {$2.00 for 24}, I didn't have to use any other polish remover product; then they changed the formula, and while the scent improved, the quality of the pads, sadly, decreased. I now use these in conjunction with a liquid polish remover, using them as a last step to get off any added color; but overall, they don't feel worth it anymore. Womp womp. OCCASIONAL re-buy {for travel}.

I discovered ST. MORIZ's Instant Self-Tanning Mousse in DARK {$12.99} last month, and honestly thought that it would enter Holy Grail territory for me given the fact that it dries lightning fast, is non-streaking, and leaves behind gorgeous sunkissed color; but after a few weeks of slathering my stomach and legs with this stuff every three days, the routine got old. Though it's a simple product to use, I wish the color lasted longer on skin. NOT a re-buy.

ZOYA's Remove+ Nail Polish Remover {$25.00 for 32oz.} has been my one and only nail polish remover for the past two years or so, and I have never found anything like it. In terms of quality, it is one of the best, removing even tough glitter and textured polishes with minimal effort. That said, ZOYA takes forever to ship, and ULTA doesn't sell the 32oz. I'm used to, so I'm in the process of exploring other polish remover options. Wish me luck! POSSIBLE re-buy.

Have you tried any of these products before? Thoughts?

Essie Fall for Japanese 2016 4PC Mini Set Swatches + Review

Essie has released one amazing polish collection after another throughout 2016, so I was beyond when I spotted their Fall for Japanese 2016 4PC Mini Set. Inspired by Rebecca Minkoff's trips to Japan; this quartet embodies all of the temptations Tokyo has to offer in terms of cuisine, nightlife, and fashion, and packages them perfectly in polish form. Peep the stunning shades below!

Playing Koi is a Rust Orange Crelly. In alllll of my years as a polish consumer, never have I ever found a shade that is as perfectly representative of the autumn season as Playing Koi. It's like a Pumpkin Spice Latte for your nails. I kid you not. Formula here is straight up flawless - it applies seamlessly, and brings on all of the harvest feels. I knew that this would be my favorite shade from the collection when I first bought it, and it did not disappoint. This is 2 coats.

Maki Me Happy is a Warm Crimson Crelly. Maki Me Happy is one of those classic shades that make an appearance in every fall nail collection {OPI has a similar shade this season too}, but the formula of this one {not a fave} may make you skip it in favor of something a little easier to work with. I found Maki Me Happy to have a thin, slightly runny formula that easily gravitated to the cuticles. Additionally, the color is a bit patchy, and requires a little more effort to reach opacity. Yes, a pretty color, but not necessarily worth the hassle. Womp womp. This is 2 coats.

Kimono-Over is a Plum Creme. Ooh girls this is the kind of color that makes me go gaga time and time again! Kimono-Over is the epitome of perfection - from its blackened plum tone to it's flawless formula. In terms of application, this lady right here is the standout - applying effortlessly and beautifully. If you dig a deep purple, this one's for you! This is 2 coats.

Udon Know Me is a Dusty Blue Stone Creme. Given the fact that I've been in a dark nail only mood for the past two months, I really wasn't expecting to like Udon Know Me, but when I applied it to my nails, I literally gasped at its prettiness. Ladies, if you love Mint Candy Apple, you will quickly fall for this shade. Udon Know Me is one of those colors that works for all seasons {though I think I'll adore it most in winter and spring}. Though the formula is a wee bit thin, it quickly builds to opacity, and leaves behind color and shine that seriously slays! This is 2 coats.

AVAILABILITY: ULTA.

PRICE: $18.00 for the 4PC Mini Set; or $9.00 per each full-size bottle.

NOTD: Ciaté Mini Paint Pot in Heirloom

Three coats of Ciaté Mini Paint Pot in Heirloom. Glittery Duochrome.

OMG ladies this color is the stuff dreams are made of, and the perfect way to welcome fall, what with the decadent red, copper, purple, orange shift.

Heirloom is one of those few and far between shades that you don't see everyday. It applies v thinly {almost translucent}, but a few coats build it up to a gorgeous opacity.

This one reminds me of a scarab beetle or the changing colors of autumn leaves. Get it if you have the chance babes - such an eye-catcher!

Arguably the most anticipated month of the year as far as fashion publications go, we’ve got one blogger’s take on L’Officiel Paris’s unique approach to the annual challenge.

If you were one of the fashion junkies stuck in the office or busily packing the kids’ lunches and rushing them off to school while your dream wardrobes were prancing down runways, you’re not alone! Few bloggers get lucky enough to experience the action firsthand, but it’s still fun to live fashionably and make life your own catwalk. This week, we’ve got momma bloggers talking the back-to-school frenzy and fashionistas bringing in fall fashion with cozy cardigans, stilettos, ankle boots, baseball caps, and chokers. But don’t worry if you don’t feel like splurging on a new piece, we’ve also included a guide on how to transition a simple white tee and denim combo for fall.

While we’re on the subject…these may not be your typical classroom lessons, but your fellow bloggers are schooling you this week. Get more familiar with the prints on your clothes or learn how to properly care for your valuable bags. And in addition to everything just covered….there’s still room for a few fall beauty trends & fun excursions. China Glaze Groupies 6-Piece Mini Set Swatches + Review

China Glaze always slays the fall nail game, so I def didn't hesitate clicking add to cart when I saw their fall 2016 Groupies 6PC Mini Set at ULTA. The throwback grunge meets Almost Famous band-aids vibe is so relevant for the current revival of 90s fashion; while capturing those fall feels perfectly. Truth: this is probably my favorite polish collection of 2016 - see why below!

Heroine Chic is Shimmery Red Flecks in a Chocolate Charcoal Shimmery Jelly Base. Ring the alarm babes cause this shade is on fire! In the bottle Heroine Chic looks like it could be a duochrome, or just a run of the mill glitter infusion, then you apply it to the nail and it's like: Yaaaasss bb give me all of that grunge goodness! The color combo here makes me think of smoke and fire or The Hunger Games; but it's also pure bliss for autumn into winter. The base here is thin, but levels out and reaches opacity in a couple of coats; however, it retains a teeny tiny bit of streakiness - nothing that top coat doesn't cover-up. And you will need top coat, because that's what brings those gawgeous shimmery red flecks out to play! This is 2 coats.

Y'all Red-y For This? is a Classic Red with Fiery Shimmer. This girl is on firrrre! Admittedly, reds do v little for me, because they don't feel unique, and I simply don't feel myself when wearing them on my nails {don't ask me why}. That said, a lot of you lovelies will dig Y'all Red-y For This? because it checks off those classic, sassy boxes; would look dynamite for holiday gatherings; and falls into that rare OCW category. Fab, yes? The pigmentation here is insane! And while Y'all Red-y For This? will try to have a private tête-à-tête with your cuticles, the overall formula is fantastic! This is 2 coats.

Purple Fiction is a Royal Purple Metallic with Red and Blue Microshimmer. Don't get me wrong, I love Purple Fiction more than I anticipated; but the problem is that once you've seen one purple metallic, you've seen them all - they just don't feel that special/unique. Nevertheless, Purple Fiction holds its own due to that glorious lit from within glow, and supercalifragifab formula which falls juuust shy of being a OCW. This is 2 coats.

Don't Mesh With Me is a Lavender Shimmer with Deep Purple Microglitter. I'm not sure if Don't Mesh With Me reminds me more of Cinderella's glass slippers or Tinkerbell's Pixie Dust but either way I l-o-v-e it! Generally speaking, this is supposed to be worn as a top coat over another color, but since I'm never really a fan of that look, I decided to just go for a glitter bomb mani. This one is super sheer {as top coats tend to be}, so I really had to pile it on to gain opacity; but the formula was such a breeze to work with, and so fast-drying that I didn't mind. My only qualm is the tipwear that appeared just minutes after application. For that reason, it really doesn't work as anything other than a top coat. Womp womp. This is 5 coats.

Blue-Ya! is a Blue Sapphire Jelly with Blue and Green Metallic Shimmer Flecks. Hellloooo gorgeous! Blues always capture my heart, but Blue-Ya! takes that love to a whole other level due to those yummy blue and green metallic shimmer flecks that give off all of the Ariel vibes. Formula here is flawless. One coat, two coat, top coat, go! This one does leave a bit of staining around the cuticles, but an extra run of nail polish remover essentially takes it all off. This is 2 coats.

Teen Spirit is a Deep Blue Black with Metallic Blue Flecks. Clearly I saved one of the best for last, because Teen Spirit is, hands down, the pièce de résistance of this 6-piece {at least IMO}. The colors just pop, and leave such an impression. Kurt Cobain would be proud. Formula here is flawless - super easy to work with, and amazingly opaque in seconds. What's so awesome about Teen Spirit is that it doesn't stain nails or cuticles, and it removes as easily as a creme {despite those metallic fleckies}. Again, remember the top coat to really bring out those metallic flecks. This is 1 1/2 coats.
