365 Beauty Guide: Must-Try Mani / Pedi Combos

365 Beauty Guide: Must-Try Mani / Pedi Combos
Make a splash this summer with decadent mani / pedi combos sure to make sunshine days a little brighter!

1) Jewel Tones: Pastels are a huge draw during the spring / summer seasons; however, rich, jewel tones are a bit more sophisticated and unexpected – not to mention they (surprisingly!) pair beautifully with spring and summer ensembles. My favorites are Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos, and Thakoon for NARS’ Ratin Jot.

2) Nude + Bright: Bare nails can be boring; but a polish that looks barely there is an elegant way to lengthen fingers, and keep your look professional (important in office settings!). I like to counter it with a bright pedicure, which allows you to try two runway trends at once (nudes and neons). Deborah Lippmann’s Naked and Tom Ford Beauty’s Nail Lacquer in Coral Blame are my favorites. NOTE: If you have pale skin, look for a nude shade with pale pink undertones to avoid ‘mannequin hands’.

3) Mint + Metallic: Mint greens possess a very sweet vibe; whereas metallics add a futuristic touch. The reason I love pairing the two together, is because both colors make you look tanner (I’m pale, so I need this!). Metallics, especially silver, reflect light, enhancing your tan; while the pale blue/green undertones found in mint polish create the same effect. I like Deborah Lippmann’s Stardust, and Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Mint Sorbet.

4) Double Pastel: Pastel nails are one of the simplest lacquer looks, as they complement any skintone; plus, they have an ultra-feminine vibe that invokes images of girly ice cream socials (think the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 Ad Campaign). You can create a combo out of any pastel colors; however, my favorites to mix and match are pale blue and peach a la Essie’s A Crewed Interest and Chanel’s Le Vernis in Coco Blue.

5) Classic + Playful: Red is one of the top three most classic nail colors available, and looks absolutely stunning for pedicures; however, it can sometimes be harsh for manicures during the spring / summer months. My solution? Pair it with a playful color that is more in line with the season (and the season’s obsession with colorblocking). I like OPI’s Big Apple Red for toes, coupled with butter LONDON’s '3 Free' Nail Lacquer in Cheeky Chops for fingers. The colors complement one another; and seamlessly pay homage to the hues of summer.

6) Ombre Effect: I have never been a fan of matching mani / pedis as they can sometimes feel a bit stuffy – especially during the warmer months when your nails are on constant display. What I do love, however, are shades from the same color family, which create an ombre-esque effect. Right now I’m obsessed with pinks, so I love NARS’ Nail Polish in Trouville, paired with Thakoon for NARS’ Anardana. As we are in the throes of spring/summer, I prefer using the lighter shade for manicures, and the darker shade for pedicures; but vice versa looks beautiful too.

What mani / pedi color combo are you eager to try this summer?
