return of the one-piece

“To look good in the water you have to pick the right swimsuit.”
Amanda Beard

return of the one piece

For years now swimsuits have found themselves synonymous with the showing of skin. After all, the song does state “…she wore an itsy bitsy, teenie weenie, yellow polka dot bikini…” It’s a melody that has resulted in a universal predilection for two-pieces {myself included}. But with ELLE magazine reporting “A return to femininity…” for the spring season; Saks Fifth Avenue Senior Fashion Director Colleen Sherin announcing a ”…bit of a return to minimalism”; and celebrities such as Kate Moss, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce embracing the retro and oh-so ladylike {yet still subtly sexy} look, it appears the swimsuit trend of 2013 is, indeed…the return of the one-piece.

Though oftentimes referred to as ladies tummy control swimwear; the one-piece is far more than a mere style solution to concealing the fact that we may or may not have eaten one too many Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies. Quite the contrary, in fact; it is an elegant means of showing skin shoreside without overtly displaying your sun-kissed complexion for a gaggle of strangers {regardless of how handsome they may or may not be}. In other words, a style that juxtaposes seduction with sophistication and simplicity.

A one-piece with well-placed cutouts in the back and around the waistline add an alluring air to your swimsuit selection {and serves as a perfect going out look for sultry summer nights when paired with skinny jeans or cutoff denim shorts}; while a plunging neckline is a saucy, tongue-in-cheek way of bringing the sexy without forsaking the sophisticated femininity of the season.

Swimsuit season is nearly open us, dolls…are you ready?

“People shop for a bathing suit with more care than they do a husband or wife. The rules are the same. Look for something you’ll feel comfortable wearing. Allow for room to grow.”
Erma Bombeck

Will you be trying the one-piece on for size this swimsuit season?

I´ve ever been a fanatic of swimsuits because I think they make me look a better figure, by showing the best and hidding the worst, you know ;D!!

I'm a bikini girl - but this season with my weight - 1 piece might be the way to go :-)

I definitely prefer the look of one-piece. They all seem to have a gorgeous and retro feel to them.

Lovely! I always call them "mini-dresses" for a reason. So elegant!

Oh the swimsuit season...it's coming way too fast :)) I've always loved the one-piece swimsuits but somehow I look silly in them so I stick to bikinis. Until a year ago I hated seeing myself in swimsuits, but somehow I managed to change that, finally :))

Yes, I will be sporting one this summer. Love a one piece...(much more appropriate during family outings.) I've been hunting for for a vintage Norma Kamali one piece for years with no luck...

I'm not a skinny girl, so I've always kind of hated swimsuits. I hope to get a new one for this summer, though, because I do have a pool at my house and it's about time I got one that fits a bit better. So basically...I always wear a one-piece and I'm glad it's more fashionable even for the teeny tiny girls. :)

I love the idea of a one-piece, especially the retro-inspired ones! But. My prob with them always has been they they make me look like a 13-year old girl :( because there's nothing in the chest area. In fact, I find they always flatten me out. So I've always defaulted to a bikini. I'd be open to trying a one piece that had some oomph up top for us small chested gals :)

I'm glad one pieces are coming back in style. I've always worn only one pieces as I'm a bit self conscious about showing off too much skin.

I might, but I have to dedicate more time to work out...horrible feeling.

I actually really started to love one pieces last year. Two pieces are great, but there's just something so retro and sexy about a one piece. That's what I'll be rocking this summer again.

ooooohhh that striped one! I'm headed to Puerto Rico next month for my birthday and I do believe that style would be perfection. Perfection.
