ZOYA You Knew Me When Limited Edition Nail Polish Trio Review

Apologies are seriously in order because Penguin Group was kind enough to send me an Advance Reader Copy of Emily Leibert's You Knew Me When and corresponding You Knew Me When Limited Edition Nail Polish Trio from ZOYA last September, and I am only just now getting around to the review. Why? To be honest...I wasn't feeling the colors.

You Knew Me When, the book, is the perfect, chick lit / guilty pleasure book for spring break / summer vacation. It has the makings of a chick flick {never a bad thing}. As for the polish...each shade in this trio is named after one of the characters {an idea that I love}. I'll start with the color I, oddly enough, liked the most.

Katherine Hill is a Vibrant Red Creme. The reason why it's odd for me to name Katherine Hill as my favorite shade from this collection? It's red. And, if you know me, you know that red is one of my least favorite nail colors. So yes, this being my favorite is a bit of a shock. Katherine Hill is darker IRL than it appears in these pictures - more of a deep crimson. The formula is very easy to work with; however, it did try to pool around my cuticles. This is 2 coats.

Laney Marten is a Forest Green Creme. This is the shade that was the biggest letdown for me. It's described everywhere as an emerald green, so I was super excited to try it. Well, the color is definitely not emerald. It could best be described as forest green; but even that wouldn't be completely accurate, as it looks black with just the tiniest hint of green in it. Very disappointing. Again, good formula; though it kept pooling around my cuticles. This is 1 coat.

Luella Hancock is a Deep Plum Creme. This one is very similar to China Glaze Urban Night. Urban Night required more coats for opacity; however, I preferred the formula and color over this, as it was glossier. This is 1 coat.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I feel so negative saying it, but this trio is very meh to me. If the colors had been true to the swatches released in the promotional materials, I feel as if I would have loved this set - but they weren't; so I didn't.

The three shades included, while sophisticated, chic, and great for the fall / winter seasons, were just very standard, and not unique. I would have liked to see more variety - perhaps even a color adapted from the book cover {a peachy orange or blue}. Instead, the three colors look very similar to one another on the nail - especially Laney Martin and Luella Hancock. Additionally, I found the formula a little strange. The opacity was great, and I absolutely loved the brush; but the whole pooling around the cuticles thing was an issue with the entire collection, and an absolute pain to deal with.

That said...I love the idea of book / nail polish collabs, and would not mind seeing many more in the future.

NOTE: Apologies for the awkward hand / finger placement in my swatches of Luella Hancock and Laney Martin. Those images were taken late last year - I have since gotten better with my swatch pictures.

What book / book series would you love to see a nail polish collection created for?

Awesome review. I wish Zoya would think of Pretty Little Liars..now that would definitely be nail polishes..a lot of us would be interested in.

I would definitely use the later two..especially for work..maybe year around. I just got RIMMEL's Salon Pro with Lacra. Chic Chick and Soul Sessions. I'm hoping they'll be my go to nail polishes soon.

p.s...Great to hear about the book too!

Definitely good to know about some of these being one coat. I do like the hunter green.

Now I have to look into this book, too.

Remember to light up with blue this month for Autism Awareness.

Fab! Review!
