Haute: Adjective High-class or high-toned; fancy: an haute restaurant that attracts a monied crowd.
High; Elevated; Upper.
Fashionably elegant.
With such meaning, it is no surprise that I should find myself coveting One Language’s Haute Bag. A bag that brings all this and more to the table with its originality and individuality. A bag that oozes high-class effervescence when primly sitting by your side at the local coffee shop; or when simply swinging to and fro from your crooked arm as you traipse from class to class or window shop with a group of girlfriends.

But this Haute Bag is not just a piece of eye (forgive me) arm candy. No, while it is charming and trendy; upper crust and utterly divine, it is also completely functional. Perfectly sized for the girl on the go who plans on expelling the entire contents of her oversized handbag into it; in addition to a textbook or two, perhaps an additional pair of ballerina flats should her stilettos stand in her way of succeeding at the Chanel sample sale on Broadway, and a cardigan should she find herself chilly in the brisk early evening air.

And pockets? Darling, this tote is loaded with more than you will ever need – from buttoned to zippered, big and small. The Haute Bag, of course, has it all. Including an extra zippered laptop sleeve that matches its larger counterpart. Perhaps I’ll use it as a make-up bag; or an oversized change purse.

But it’s canvas you say. Why would a canvas bag be sold for $110? I’ll tell you why…it is an original. Not just an original One Language Label piece, mind you. No, each bag is original, for each natural colored bit bears a liner that features handwritten inspirational quotes in noir. No two bags sport the same notes; thus, this piece de resistance is synonymous with receiving a special letter from a secret someone. One that is just for you.

Lounge Lizard

I’m not sure if it’s the prospect of the four day weekend that is looming ahead of me right now, or the sheer fact that I am simply thrilled to be done with school for the summer...either way, the only thing I can think of at the moment is lounge pants. A cozy, comfy pair of sweats that are cute while still retaining a semblance of style; so I don’t have to suffer through any of those I-feel-like-an-unkempt-slob moments that so often filtrate my mind when I’m lazing about the house. Yes, I’m admitting it right here, I want to be a lounge lizard – at least for a few days.

American Eagle Outfitters “Aerie Girly Crop Pant” I once read that eagles are an ancient symbol of the sun. Maybe that’s why I had to include these Aerie Girly Crop Pants from American Eagle Outfitters; for, in my case, they represent the ending of one school year, and the beginning of a sun-filled summer. The strawberry candy color is a mix of bubblegum and fresh picked strawberries. The skinny fit gives these lounge pants a fairly hip, yet undeniably playful, carefree vibe. And the contrasting navy blue Bald Eagle graphic is a whimsical touch that is simply irresistible. I kind of need these. In addition to the matching hoodie and tank!

Victoria’s Secret “French Terry Crop Pant” I find it odd that Victoria’s Secret has seemingly become one of my favorite stores over the past few months, given the fact that, prior to this time I was convinced that they were nothing but a lingerie shop, and paid little mind to them. Now, I want anything and everything with their tag on it. Case in point, these French Terry Crop Pants. These are lounge pants fit for a ballerina. The colors – field grey and dusty pink – are demure and dainty; while the texture of the material is as smooth as silk. I could most certainly see myself wearing these outdoors on a casual shopping day, or stretching out in them on the sofa in the middle of the summer. Je veux!


Ed Hardy “Drawstring Lounge Pants” I’ll admit it, I’m not the biggest fan of actual tattoos, but I have become completely obsessed with Christian Audigier’s (aka Ed Hardy) tattoo-inspired designs. Thus, it does not shock me that I would instantly find myself crazy about these Drawstring Lounge Pants. The aqua color is the perfect backdrop for the brightly colored koi fish which harbors a happy-go-lucky expression, and is representative of “strength of purpose and perseverance of adversity” in addition to good fortune and luck, two things you can never get enough of; while the full-pants length is perfect for those chillier days when capris simply won’t make the cut. What do I see in my future? A pair of these pants, of course!



Lounge Lover “Tessa Jumpsuit” I’m one of those obnoxious people who often feels the need to color coordinate my top with my lounge pants. Of course, unless you’re buying a matching set, this often creates unnecessary fashion worries, especially when all you’re truly searching for is a little rest and relaxation. So this Tessa Jumpsuit? Basically, it’s the answer to our color coordination worries; and a cozy one at that! A cashmere-blend jumpsuit that features a heart-shaped patch at the back of the neck, a collar that is perfect for popping, a zipper at the chest, and a cinched waist, this is an adorable way to laze about in style, and toss all of your fashion worries and woes to the wayside.



Outer Sports “Women’s Retro Terry Capri Sports Pants” Sweats often come across as sleepwear, not loungewear. Something you toss on right before you hit the sack, as opposed to trotting around in during your waking hours, when there’s the possibility of someone popping in to say hello. Oddly enough, these Women’s Retro Terry Capri Sports Pants are a very put-together version of the sometimes sloppy sweatpant. Featuring a raw-edge trim, adjustable elastic cuffs that allow you to customize the length, and a drawstring waist, these are perfect for a day of vegging out in front of the telly, or plopping poolside with a few glossies.

Pretty Predictors

It was my encounter with Mattel’s Magic 8 Ball at the tender age of eight that gave me a hankering for a crystal ball of my very own. One that would show me the future. Tell me what was awaiting me in the coming minutes, days, months, even years. But, alas, that day never came. Instead, I was relegated to an existence of watching Disney villains use crystal balls to show their tiara-wearing princess victims their fate. But now, I can have a crystal ball of my very own; albeit a small one.

Free People’s Crystal Ball Ring is the answer to my clairvoyant dreams. The black, gold, and silver sparkle-filled magic marvels sit atop a silver plated metal base that serves as a stunning stand for the mystical sphere; while the size fulfills all of my typical cocktail ring requirements. Despite the fact that they are only available in a size 7, and I require no more than a size 5 1/2, I long to take all three of these pretty predictors home. After all, there is no question in my mind that these beautiful baubles have the power to hypnotize on sight. What do I see in my future? A Crystal Ball Ring, to be sure.

Except, perhaps, a little black skirt. Which is, respectively, the object of my affection, and one of the top ten items on my wish list since penning Girls in Glasses a few weeks ago.

Yes, the LBD is something that every girl should have hiding away in her closet; but I want an article of clothing that will have the opportunity to make many appearances in public. One that will enjoy countless nights out on the town, even if it’s for a simple little shopping spree, or a get-together with the girls. A versatile piece that is cute yet chic; sophisticated yet flirty; fun-loving and free-spirited, all in one. What embodies all this and more? Why the LBS, of course!

You’ve no idea how extensively I’ve searched for the crème de la crème of little black skirts, darling. I’ve met the Elizabeth and James Corset Knit Skirt, only to find that it was no longer available. I’ve crossed paths with BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Cotton Sateen Skirt; mingled with French Connection’s Christmas Stripe Skirt; exchanged sweet talk with Juicy Couture’s Women’s Wool Skirt with Oversized Bow; was introduced to Cynthia Steffe’s Miley; and contemplated Milly’s Diamond Jacquard Wool Skirt. Then, while perusing the Big Brown Bag itself, I saw her.

BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Cotton Sateen “Mila” Pleated Skirt is the quintessential little black skirt. Pleating on the front and side provide a very youthful fit and draping; while the bow-like adornment found upon the waist is a flirty and feminine detail that would make even the moneyed Blair Waldorf swoon.

At times, I’ll dress it down with black tights and my trademark leopard print ballerina flats. Occasionally I’ll wear it au natural with nothing but a simple tee and a pair of perfect pumps. Should I need something sassy for a cocktail party? I’ll toss on a cascading black top, clasp a chunky, sparkly statement necklace around my throat, and slip a sparkly bauble upon my index finger.

You see loves, the LBD may often find itself in the spotlight; but its less obtrusive and domineering counterpart, the LBS, is, perhaps, quite a bit more wearable. So why not invest in one, two, or maybe even five? After all, the little black skirt will never go out of style.

A Floppy Fervor

Yes, I have been lusting after American Apparel’s Wool Floppy Hat since writing about it way back in March a la Floppy and Fabulous. Yes, one of the reason’s why I am a headcase over this magnificent piece of headwear is because I am tempted to channel Brigitte Bardot’s effortless yet tres chic style. And yes, one of my rationale’s for not having yet shelled out the $40 in order to call this beauty my own has to do with the fact that I tend to purchase hats, wear them once, then toss them into the back of my closet where they collect dust until I eventually give them away to some poor, deserving soul.

But, dear me, I simply don’t see this hat facing the same fate. Nay, the Wool Floppy Hat is the cream of the crop. The best of the best. The pick of the litter. It is the epitome of all things fabulous, what with its wide brim and natural – but completely trendy – color options. And how is it possible that one simple accessory can be so multifaceted?

♥I’m off to the beach. My tote is in hand; my sunglasses are covering my eyes, and what’s on my head? My Wool Floppy Hat in light grey – the perfect complement to my pink monokini.

♥I’ve been invited out for drinks with a few out-of-town friends who unexpectedly stopped by for a visit. I’m donning my little black dress, but I want a statement piece that will help me feel sultry yet mysterious. I’ve just the thing to enhance my look – my Wool Floppy Hat in black!

♥My plane is coming in for a landing. I’m about to step off this aircraft onto European soil with a serious case of bedhead, looking anything but fabulous. But wait! I have my Wool Floppy Hat in luggage brown in tow. Paired with my leggings and oversized sweater I’ll look anything but bedraggled.

Stop! Don’t tell me that this hat won’t work with your wardrobe, because it will. Don’t use the excuse that you don’t look good in a hat, because you’ll look fabulous in this one. Meow, mas petites! Kitty cats may be sultry, mysterious, and sensual; but, alas, you don’t need fur to embrace your feline side. Non! Non! Non! Cute, classy, and completely in my budget; these are a fabulous alternative to the high-priced beauties I have been lusting after, and the perfect prescription for fulfilling your purr-induced fashion fantasies!

♥Suddenly Susan My mother named me Erika after Susan Lucci’s character Erica (same name, different spelling) Kane on All My Children; a show she watched voraciously in the eighth grade. So I suppose it was inevitable that somehow, someway I would become a fan of hers. Due to my discovery of her jewelry line, that time is now. Affordable and completely chic, her pieces are gorgeous, jaw-dropping, available in many sizes (including a size 5 ring!), and perfect for the girl who wants big baubles on a budget. I am already the proud owner of not one, not two, but four (3 goldtone and 1 hematite) of the “Prim and Proper” Round Stone and Simulated Pearl Cluster Ring, which receives compliments during each wearing; thus, I believe it is time to pick up a few more of her creations. I currently have my eye on the “Floral Frosting” 2.77 ct CZ and Aqua-Color Stone Ring; the “Tonal Tryst” 3-Piece Tricolor 8” Bangle Bracelet Set; and the “Dynamic Dangles” 2-Strand 39” Necklace/Belt. To put it bluntly, Susan’s designs are magically delicious!

♥The Ottoman Empire I’m sure you all remember This Seat Is Taken, my post from a few weeks ago that paid tribute to finding a seat for our beloved handbags. Since then, I have discovered that a special spot to seat our purse is not the most unusual request, for many restaurants actually offer ottomans for this very reason. According to Brooke from Check Your Spelling, New York City’s Daniel offers a foot-tall ottoman specifically made for your purse “So you do not have to lean over for your bag should you need to.” And ONE Restaurant in Toronto , Canada offers up the same specialty. So you see girls...our simple inquiry about a special chair for our handbag? Obviously not as far-fetched as we originally thought.

♥Chic Girl in the City I visit Savvy Mode on a daily basis for my dose of new luxuries to add to my lust list. So when I learned that I was the winner of Nina Willdorf’s City Chic, courtesy of Savvy herself, you can only imagine my excitement. One, I was a winner! Two, the punchy pink cover was the perfect complement to many of the fashions lurking in my closet (after all, what girl doesn’t want to color coordinate with her reading material?). Three, from beginning to end each tip was more perfect than the last. Culinary tips that are ideal for the amateur chef on a budget. Fabulous websites that help me to save money, while still reaping the benefit of amazing merchandise. Even a little something called Dumpster Diving, which is a lot more glamorous than it sounds. I may not be in the city at the moment, but yes, I can live like a chic girl in the city; partake in indulging in “the luxe life for less” thanks to this trusty little handbook that I simply cannot get enough of!


♥Read All About It While the heirs, heiresses, and royals may have been born with silver spoons in their mouths; I, a budding writer from the day I came into this world, have been surrounded by newspapers. Reading material that would leave black smudges of newsprint on your hands; make crinkling sounds when you turned the pages; and was delivered on a daily basis. Thus, I have always, and will always be infatuated with anything donning a newspaper print. Forever 21’s Newspaper Print Bandeau Bra fits the bill to a T. It may be made to be worn underneath your clothes, but I can’t help but to feel the urge to wear this as a top while lounging about the house on warm summer days. ♥Bird Neck Extra-long necklaces. Jingly jangly jewelry. Those are usually the traits that my neckwear possesses. Yet for some inexplicable reason, I am fully enamored with feathered necklaces. Pieces that are silent yet violent – in the fashion sense, that is. Jewelry that packs a punch. That makes people stare in wonderment. Offerings like this Miss KK Peacock Feather Necklace. Or this Mali Sabatasso Smokey Quartz Hackle Feather Large Necklace. The colors in this Forever 21 Peacock Feather Necklace are quite breathtaking. I suppose that it is time for me to simply declare defeat, and admit that my neck now belongs to the birds!

♥Eye of the Tiger Bronzer is a completely foreign cosmetic to me. But, alas, as a pale girl whose actual legs have been mistaken for white tights in the very recent past (two weeks ago), I have begun to look into options for giving my otherwise pasty pallor a more golden glow. My first thought was a self-tanner. My second thought was bronzer. I believe that my reason for being more taken with the latter, however, has to do with my discovery of Chantecaille’s Bengali Bronzer. As if the heavenly designed bronze compact wasn’t incentive enough; the mix of gold, platinum, bronze, and copper tones, in addition to the Bengal tiger imprint makes me want to shell over the well-over-my-cosmetic-budget amount. Don’t worry, I will restrain myself, but I have most certainly been struck with the eye of the tiger.

I Dream of Jordi

Lux-u-ry: A material object, service, etc., conducive to sumptuous living, usually a delicacy, elegance, or refinement of living rather than a necessity.
Sure, you may not need it, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve it. For you, luxury may entail that little black dress you saw displayed in the BCBG storefront. For me, well, it includes said little black dress, in addition to lavish stationary. Yes, I’ve admitted it; one of the things in life that makes my heart skip a beat is possibly the smallest luxury of all...fancy notepaper.

As a writer, I feel lost without a pen and paper close by, so of course I want something that is not only useful, but elegant, as well. In kind, my jaw nearly hit the ground when I innocently made my way down the Target stationary aisle and laid my eyes upon the cartoon chic notebook collection of Jordi Labanda.

Now, mind you, while I get giddy over childlike illustrations, I try to harness my giggles and opt for a more sophisticated stationary that is still infused with style. But Jordi Labanda’s Heyday Collection was too much for me to resist. The magazine inspired covers depicting chic ladies in amazing locales from Paris to New York dressed to the nines simply called out to me from their perch upon the steel shelves.

The high-cheekboned illustrated femme fatales reminding me of Paris Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld sitting front and center at Stella McCartney’s Ready-to-Wear at Paris Fashion Week. Audrey Hepburn wielding her cigarette holder as she stepped into the role of Holly Golightly in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The Manolo-loving Carrie Bradshaw in her all-white power suit as she strutted along the sidewalks of New York City on her way to her interview with Vogue.

And so, like any self-respecting shopper, fashionista, and luxury-seeker, I did what I had to do. I snatched up as many of the diary designs as my skinny arms could possibly carry, and headed straight to the checkout line with my spoils. Here I sit, surrounded by my swag, and all I can do is smile. And dream of the Jordi Labanda purchases still to come, of course.

Trapeze Artist

I used to watch a lot of reruns of Next and Parental Control; mindless dating shows that were a complete guilty pleasure for me. One thing that both shows seemed to have in common was the bizarre first dates the contestants would go on - my favorite being the trapeze lessons. Now, don’t get me wrong, I see nothing wrong with being a trapeze artist; but, given my slight fear of heights, this would be the last thing I would want to do on a first date. No, I prefer to keep my feet on the ground and partake in a different type of trapeze artistry...of the fashion variety!

Bensoni “Sand Linen ‘Kirsten’ Trapeze Tent Dress” I suppose I should let you in on a little secret. When I was in fourth grade I was absolutely obsessed with pinafores due to the fact that my beloved American Girl doll Samantha was always wearing one. So you can only imagine my surprise when I fell upon Bensoni’s Sand Linen ‘Kirsten’ Trapeze Tent Dress. I’m not sure whether it has to do with the organza pleated front bib, the pleats throughout the dress, the loose fit, or the organza lining that plays a game of peek-a-boo from underneath the hemline, but the similarities between this beauty and a pinafore are uncanny. It has awakened a time from my childhood that I had forgotten all about; and made me desperate to call it my very own. Now, if only the $615 price tag wasn’t standing brutishly in my way!

Max Studio “Bubble Sleeve Trapeze Dress” Do you remember that butterfly dress I was gushing about just a few weeks ago? The one by Free People that is no longer being produced? While the color scheme is different, as is the fit, this fantastic fuchsia/birch colored Bubble Sleeve Trapeze Dress from Max Studio reminds me ever so much of it; plus, it’s less than half the price. The sleeves have a very fluttery, flirty air about them; while the multi-colored screenprint acts as a conversation piece, what with its intricate design. There is something very demure, yet Lolita-inspired about this frock that, literally, makes me weak in the knees. Perfect paired with ballerina flats or a sky-high platform. I think I’m in love!

Marc Bouwer Glamit! “Short Jeweled Collar Trapeze Dress” I’m one of those people who always likes to be prepared; thus, I see nothing wrong with buying this Short Jeweled Collar Trapeze Dress now, so that I will have it on hand should I be invited to a chic cocktail party – even if it’s ten years from today. The bugle beaded, jeweled neckline provides a height of classic glamour to the oftentimes more casual trapeze dress; while the free-falling shape and sultry keyhole keep it from ever appearing stuffy. Yes, I’ve certainly sold myself on it. Now, is anyone having a party?

Forever 21 “Twisted Flower Knit Tunic” At first look I thought this was a top; in all actuality, it can be worn as either a top or a dress. My take on it? It must be worn as a dress, because it’s too fabulous to have to compete with a pair of fancy pants. This Twisted Flower Knit Tunic is a hot pink piece of perfection that stays in tune with the floral craze that is currently upon us thanks to the flower trim along the neckline. To add a little extra kick of sass, it features a ruffle trim bottom that is as girly as it gets; and incredibly hard to resist, mind you. Even better is its affordability - $19.80. For that much, you could also buy a few jangly gold bangles and a pair of glamorous espadrilles to complement this punchy piece!

Juicy Couture “Long Sleeve Butterfly ‘Easy’ Dress" By now you are probably thinking that my life revolves around butterflies; but it doesn’t. It’s just that sometimes something catches your eye that is so irresistible you simply can’t help but fall in love with it. Case in point, this Long Sleeve Butterfly ‘Easy’ Dress. This is one of those dresses that give off ethereal vibes from the moment you first see it. The turquoise colored silk is breezy and lightweight, sporting bell sleeves that are 3/4, in addition to a tied ruffled scoopneck that is squeal-worthy. But the over-the-top bit that I’m lusting over? The gold foil butterfly print. Honestly, there is nothing more charming. I think I may faint from the cuteness!

I Love the Butterfly Girl

Yes, yes, yes...I am well aware that the song by The Cowsills is actually titled I Love the Flower Girl; but the moment I laid eyes on these feminine Cocoon Combs from one of my favorite Etsy sellers, whichgoose, I instantly had to change the lyrics slightly to fit these delicate, demure creations that I am absolutely, positively dying to call my very own.

These are possibly the most beautiful hair adornments I have seen in months. Fly Away With Me

I didn’t set out to fall in love with a canvas bag. No, it was an accident from the getgo. A beautiful disaster, if you will. There she was, staring me in the face, and I just knew that I had to have her.

Make Love Not Trash’s Fly Away Tote is the canvas bag that I could never have fathomed I would fall for. The Story of a Shoulder

I am a child of the 80s. Thus, it is no surprise that I can remember a time when the New Kids on the Block were being chased by legions of fans; parents were knocking one another over to purchase a chubby Cabbage Patch Kid for their offspring; and Jennifer Beals and her incredible dance moves a la the film Flashdance were being copied by everyone on the planet. Despite such an upbringing, the off-the-shoulder tee shirt trend never appealed to me much. Now, in the year 2009, I’ve become obsessed, and want to own one in every color.

LnA "Off the Shoulder Long Sleeve Flashdance Top I pre-ordered this LnA Off the Shoulder Long Sleeve Flashdance Top in Midnight from Singer22 just last week and am counting down the days until it will arrive on my doorstep. The neckline is wide, very reminiscent of a boatneck; while the body has a loose fit that is similar to the cut of the boyfriend style. The fact that the sleeves are long so that you can roll them up when the weather turns warm, or wear them down when it’s a little nippy? A feature that makes me overjoyed. I plan on wearing it with skinny jeans and ballerina flats for an effortless look that is chic and sophisticated, yet playful and fun!

Alloy "Off-Shoulder Tee" I constantly see items in the Alloy catalog that I would love to add to my burgeoning clothes collection, but it was this Off-Shoulder Tee in Iris that caught my eye, and made me eager to whip out my credit card in 0.5 seconds flat. This top is a staple for every girl for the warmer months. Dolman sleeves. Off the shoulder. Available in summery colors like heather coral, pool, lime, orange, hot pink, and many, many more. I don’t know about you, but I have all sorts of plans for this marvel. I'll wear it while lounging poolside with a fruity drink in my hand. I'll strut up and down the boardwalk sporting it with lace-up espadrilles and a mini. Someone pinch me; I must be dreaming.

Brandy and Melville "Off the Shoulder Long Sleeve" If I could live in sweatshirts, I gladly would. Unfortunately, since they oftentimes appear sloppy and unfashionable, as opposed to chic and trendy, I try to steer clear of them. This Brandy and Melville Off the Shoulder Long Sleeve, however, changes that. Equal parts comfy and cute, while remaining completely smart and trendy, this is an off the shoulder top that I desperately need to add to my wardrobe. And I’m not just saying that because, aside from a cute off the shoulder look, it sports a sweet little swingy bottom that is utterly irresistible.

Victoria's Secret "Off-the-Shoulder Top" Oh Vicky, somehow you never cease to amaze me. Regardless of the fact that you are known for your lacy underpinnings, your Off-the-Shoulder Top proves that you are one to be reckoned with even in the clothing world. This is an off-the-shoulder offering that you don’t get lost in. The material is drapey, yet manages to cling to and showcase every curve; while the cowlneck seemingly shimmies over your shoulder to display a little skin. As with almost everything from Victoria ’s Secret...je veux!

Free People "We the Free Gypsy Jersey Top" Palm trees are synonymous with Southern California (the place I currently live). White is one of my favorite colors. Free People is a clothing site that I frequent multiple times per day. Gypsy is the name of one of my cats. Correct me if I’m wrong, but with the amount of coincidental occurrences between me and the We the Free Gypsy Jersey Top, how could I possibly not buy it? This is a piece that would look absolutely amazing topping a tie-bikini bottom. And paired with candy-colored short shorts? Ah-dor-a-ble!

Smitten Saturday

♥My Buddy So, I have a confession to make. I’m currently harboring a “little” crush on someone at work. He has hair that sticks up in every which direction, is always smiling, and, my personal favorite, wears the most adorable Buddy Holly-inspired glasses. He’s nerdy-cute, and I don’t even know his name. I do, however, know that his retro eyewear has me giddy. Now, whenever I see Buddy Holly frames, I can’t help but think of him. These Shuron Freeway Eyeglasses remind me of when he was singing in the hallway. These remind me of the quick, shy glances we exchanged in the cafeteria. And these make me think of the oh-so casual way he tosses his sweatshirt over his shoulder. I can’t help myself; I would love to make the cute boy, in addition to a pair of these glasses, my buddy!

♥Panties & Polish Matching your nail polish to your blouse, dress, even your shoes, I have heard of. Matching your nail polish to your skivvies, however? It’s something new to me; yet it piques my interest and makes me want to pull out my wallet. Hanky Panky’s new Signature Lace Low Rise Thong and Polish Set has just made its way to the tip top of my wish list. I plan on reserving the Chai/Bliss Pink offering, which accompanies the blushing Ballet Slipper polish for demure moments that call for something classic and understated; and using the Diva Blue/Coral Reef set featuring a Geranium colored polish that is simply burning up for those days when I’m feeling spicy. Sure, you may be the only one to know that your underthings match your nails; but that’s the fun of it, right?

♥Ice, Ice Baby I introduced all of you to my gush-worthy 8 7/8 Carat Smokey Quartz & Sky Blue Topaz Sterling Silver Ring on Monday. Since then, I have not taken the beautiful bauble off my finger. It has become a part of me. In fact, I find it difficult to even separate with it long enough to take a shower each day. Thus, due to my passion for the gorgeous gem, I have already begun contemplating my next Ice.com purchase. First up is the 9 Carat Green Amethyst & Black Sapphire Sterling Silver Ring that my blogging pal La C. is lucky enough to call her own; and which reminds me ever so much of one of my favorite types of ice cream – Mint Chocolate Chip! Second is the 9 Carat Rainbow Moonstone and Iolite Sterling Silver Ring. And third is the 6 3/4 Carat Citrine & Smokey Quartz Sterling Silver Ring. Forgive the Vanilla Ice reference, but it’s completely necessary...“Ice, Ice Baby...”


♥Gingham Girl While many equate tribes of ants with picnics, I find that there is one other thing that should be completely synonymous with the fun gatherings…gingham! It’s a print that can work for the wellie-wearing farm girl, or the stiletto strutting city dweller. Free People’s Picnic Plaid Matador is hands-down my favorite piece. The yellow color (it’s also available in black and red gingham) is summery and fun; but the lace crocheting and drawstring tie in the back, paired with the pintucking in the font give it a sophisticated flair. This pink gingham shirt dress is the perfect toss on for casual days when you’re looking for something light and airy to run around in. This Navy Rockabilly Gingham Cocktail Dress is just sassy enough to wear for a Hamptons-inspired getaway complete with a big straw hat and sunglasses to make you feel incognito. And Betsey Johnson’s Gingham Taffeta Halter Sundress is simply perfect for a retro party. There’s no question about it, I am a Gingham Girl through and through!

♥Cupcake Craze Vanessa Cantave, Executive Chef of New York City ’s Yum Yum Chefs once said “With cupcakes, everyone can have her own personal dessert. Plus, they’re so cute!” Truer words have never been spoken. And, since I am currently in the mood for a little party, I believe that cupcakes are an essential way to get into the celebratory spirit. Cupcake Royale’s Red Velvet offering looks scrum-diddly-umptious; and the fact that it’s known as the “Scarlet O’Hara of the pastry case” makes me desperate to indulge in one or two. I was given a Black Forest Cake for my sixteenth birthday. Despite my age, when no one was looking I scraped all of the glazed cherries off the top and ate them in one sitting, leaving the rest of the cake behind. Cupcake Café’s Black Forest Cupcake reminds me of that day; plus it gives me the opportunity to indulge in chocolate and cherries without any guilt. And the treats at Dots Cupcakes are just too pretty not to love – I’ll take one of everything!

♥Twilight Aside from Buffy’s daring dances with vampires as she strived to slay them one by one, I have never been very interested in the blood-sucking beings. But since being introduced to Edward Cullen, all that has changed. I am almost finished with Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight and am adoring every moment of it. There are so many wonderful bits. It takes place in Seattle (a location I am desperate to visit); the writing is lyrical and poetic; and best of all, it features a handsome, rogue vampire by the name of Edward Cullen who has captured my heart. I truly do not care if it’s abnormal; I want to marry a fictional character, plain and simple.

The Haute Hostess

Much like Samantha Sweeting, the star of Sophie Kinsella’s The Undomestic Goddess, I am what you would kindly refer to as domestically challenged. I can’t sew a stitch without pricking my finger. Whipping up a quick cake typically results in a mini fire. And using the dryer without shrinking my entire wardrobe? Completely impossible. But, I digress, while browsing through Costco yesterday, I came upon something that could transform me, you, or Sex and the City’s style savvy Carrie Bradshaw from the Undomestic Goddess into the Haute Hostess.

It is not everyday that I find myself wandering the fine china aisle, so I can only chalk it up to fate that I should decide to sashay that way on this particular day; for sitting there under secure lock and key was the most divine set of entertaining accessories one could ever hope to find. The Rosanna Flavored Martini 9-Piece is the fledgling fashion-forward entertainer’s dream come true. Why? It’s dressy not dowdy. Sleek never sloppy. And without a doubt ostentatious not old hat.

The four plates each showcase a different type of chichi beverage being orbited by colorful polka dots of varying sizes. The yellow bedecked piece represents the tart Lemon Martini. The tangerine adorned bit stands for the sweet Tangerine Martini. The green gilded arrangement expresses the slightly sour Apple Martini. And the punchy pink vignette embodies Ms. Bradshaw’s drink du jour, the Cosmopolitan. Each plate has a matching coaster which creates a very blissful and oh-so fashionable place setting. But my personal favorite is item numero neuf…the milky white serving tray sporting splashy pink polka dots, and illustrations displaying each swank drink. It is this last little touch that makes the Haute Hostess truly come to life.

Oh yes, I can already feel the undomestic goddess slipping away from me. Gone are the ballerina flats that were just adorning my feet; in their place, shimmery stilettos. My skinny jeans and billowy tunic have been replaced with a frou-frou frock. The understated band perched upon my index finger and charm found at my throat have morphed into a statement necklace and cocktail ring. My sloppy bedhead has been yanked into a chic chignon. And in my hand? The Rosanna Flavored Martini 9-Piece, of course. I’m about to introduce the Haute Hostess to the world…care to come to my debut?

Falling for the Fedora

When Vanessa Hudgens wore one on the cover of Cosmogirl! not too long ago, I was unimpressed. When I saw a handful of celebrities traipsing down the street with the funky accessory perched casually atop their head, I was annoyed. But over the past few weeks, I have realized just how versatile this piece of headwear truly is. It can be worn with dresses. It can be worn with shorts. It can be worn with skinny jeans. Heck, it can even be worn by your grungy boyfriend. Yes, I have a confession to make...I am falling for the fedora.

Eugenia Kim “Max Vented Toyo Fedora with Patent Trim and Buckle” In my search for fedoras, I have quickly realized that designer Eugenia Kim reigns as queen. She has created enough styles and colors to fit every mood and personality; though my absolute favorite piece by her is the Max Vented Toyo Fedora with Patent Trim and Buckle. The camel and brown colored perforated material is the most perfect thing for summer; but it’s the skinny black patent trim and buckle which resembles a trendy belt that has truly caught my eye. I can’t help but want to wear this with a sparkly fitted mini-dress for a night out with the girls.

Forever 21 “Basketweave Feather Fedora” When it comes to clothes, I tend to steer clear of prints, and stick closer to solids. When it comes to accessories, however, the opposite is often true. Which is why I find this Basketweave Feather Fedora utterly adorable. While it’s not tweed, the black, white, and gray basketweave design is very close to it; and the forest green grosgrain fabric bow hatband manages to add a nice contrasting touch. But the true piece de resistance is the spotted yellow feather, which fits quite well with the feather obsession I’ve been harboring for the past six months!

Urban Outfitters “Indestructible Fedora” I will admit that part of the reason that this fedora has grabbed my attention has to do with it’s name, the Indestructible Fedora. It makes you think of it as a piece of headwear that has some type of superhuman (or perhaps superhat) powers. But the fact that it’s constructed of a gray material that possesses a stone blue hue has more to do with my affections. Add in the tonal ribbon band and the fact that it has a slightly different fit than the typical fedora, and all I can say is je veux!

RVCA “ Hamptons Fedora” As someone with brown hair (albeit light/golden brown hair), when it comes to hats I often favor light colors, so they truly pop. Thus, it was love at first sight with this RVCA Hamptons Fedora in White. Crafted completely of paper straw, this is a cream colored piece of perfection that has quickly won the key to my heart. The slightly downturned brim. The thin pink hatband. The flirty, lightweight color. I can already picture myself frolicking upon the beach in a bikini with this lovely sitting jauntily upon my head.

Banana Republic “Canvas Fedora” Since I’ve already confessed to falling in love with the fedora, and admitted to having a feather obsession, I find it only necessary to tell you that I have never in my entire life set foot in a Banana Republic store; but since spotting this chic Canvas Fedora, I truly regret that decision. While hats don’t usually seem like fitting office attire, there is a part of me that wants to go out and buy a fitted business suit in a sleek gray color, and pair it with this fashionable piece. There is something so very retro about this hat that makes me completely gaga. My hand is creeping towards my wallet...who knows, this hat could be on my doorstep in less than a week!

Time and time again I have proclaimed that I will stop buying shoes. But when you find a pair as unique as these Zip Ruffle Flats, you cannot simply turn the other cheek and walk away from them. No, instead you must find your size, place them in your cart, whip out your credit card, and follow in the precocious Eloise’s footsteps by proclaiming, “Charge it please!”

Garden Party

Spring is here, and to properly ring it in a Garden Party is most certainly in order. The calligraphy-adorned invitations have already been hand-delivered to my guests. The pretty petit fours, lemon teacakes, cucumber finger sandwiches, and honey fruit salad has been prepared. Atop the long table nestled amongst the greenery rests a crisp white linen tablecloth touched up with a vintage silver serving tray, and flower-adorned white china teacups. Inside the matching teapot an English tea sits. In miniature saucers and bowls lie lemon wedges, cream, and sugar cubes. Everything is ready for my guests. I, however, am not. The perfect look for a proper garden party escapes me. But wait, maybe I have something just right for the occasion. This Floral Satin Dress.

Pink, white, red, and green mingle together on this divine white satin backdrop. A plunging sweetheart neckline provides just the right amount of space for a statement necklace to clasp prettily at the throat; while the pleats and empire waist add a billowy, bouncy flair. Cinched around the waist, a thick grosgrain bow tie sash in a contrasting fuchsia color that creates a charming dainty bow in the back. And underneath it all rests a frilly tulle trim. Yes, I have found the most irresistible ensemble for my garden party. The question is...what will you be wearing to the event?

Blue Crush

As blue as the sky on a bright, clear, cloud-free morning. As sparkly as the ocean when struck by a ray of sunlight. As breathtaking as the anticipation of a first kiss.

If you guessed that I was talking about a priceless new relic debuting at the Met, you’d be wrong. Rather, I’m referring to my newest acquisition. Of the cocktail ring variety.


It arrived on Friday morning. Just shy of the twelve-noon mark. I, typing away at the computer, was interrupted by the loud ringing of the doorbell. Quick as a flash I dashed to the front door, and found the tiny box staring up at me. Before even reading the address label, I knew what it was, and where it had come from.

Tape and wrapping were torn and tossed away creating a scene much like the one made by tiny tots on Christmas morning. Before I knew it, I had reached the prize. Like finding a toy in the Cracker Jacks box; only this was no toy. The white, stiff-cardboard box was perforated with the word Ice.com; a baby blue satin ribbon tied in a pretty little bow on top.

I slowly, carefully lifted the lid to find a deep blue velvet box like none I have ever seen before. Opening the top made me flashback on the Pretty Woman scene where Richard Gere lifts the lid of a cream-colored jewelry box to expose a decadent diamond necklace, only to snap it closed on Julia Roberts’ gloved hand. I cracked the lid, and there it was in all of its glittering glory...my 8 7/8 Carat Smokey Quartz & Sky Blue Topaz Sterling Silver Ring.

Dramatic and daring. Smoldering and sassy. Subtle and sweet. How one ring manages to embody each and every one of these things is almost incomprehensible to me; but it does. The blue topaz is light, and quite reminiscent of a large piece of frozen ice. The smokey brown quartz clusters seemingly orbit the paler shade, producing a delicious contrast. When hit by the sun, the darker color manages to appear almost golden. Set on a scrummy sterling silver band and backdrop that is ultimately too good to be true.

Despite the fact that I am not doing anything special tomorrow – simply going to work; I have already decided that the beautiful bauble that will be sitting upon my finger? My under-$100 piece of perfection, of course. I can already hear the excited screams and shouts of my co-workers as a mini-riot ensues due to the irresistible charm of my little lovely.

Penny for Your Thoughts

I have many summertime rituals. Sleeping for a few days straight to de-stress from nine months of studying. Launching a Gossip Girl marathon, followed by a day full of chick flicks. Lounging about in my pajamas for weeks on end. But the most popular summertime ritual in my book is my penchant for re-reading Beverly Cleary’s 1950’s based Young Love Quartet - Fifteen, Jean and Johnny, The Luckiest Girl, and Sister of the Bride. While each book is about a different girl, each character had one thing in common...an affinity for donning penny loafers with everything from flowy skirts to capris. Which makes me wonder if adding this retro, menswear inspired footwear into our wardrobe would make us just as lucky in love as Barbara, Jane, Jean, and Shelley.

Women's Sperry Top-Sider "Authentic Original Harborside" I have often viewed penny loafers as a confining form of footwear that often come off as dark and dowdy; these Women’s Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original Harborside’s have completely changed my mind. The white patent is compatible with any casual outfit you may have lying around in your dresser drawers – from jeans to capris, and short shorts to skirts – but the clincher is the fact that aside from the patent leather bits, the top and sides are made up of a matching mesh material that makes it easy for your feet to breath – even when the weather turns outrageously warm!

Enzo Angiolini "Lizzia" Perhaps the true reason that I fell in love with these Enzo Angiolini Lizzia’s has to do with my passion for Chanel’s Two-Tone Ballerina Flats, but I am completely head over heels with the updated look that these manage to disperse. The black is rich and chic looking; while the quilted white tongue and trim makes for a nice color contrast. The little black bow tassel adornment is, in my opinion, the best decorative touch, as it adds a sense of femininity to an otherwise masculine style. I would love to wear these with black skinny jeans and a black turtleneck.

Tory Burch "Clayton Anthracite Leather" Some say that black, white, navy blue, and gray are always staples in a girls wardrobe. In my opinion, a nice sparkly metallic should be tossed into the mix as well. Like the aforementioned base colors, metallics manage to add a little oomph to anything and everything, be it your worn-in jeans, or your brand new mini. Hence the reason why these Tory Burch Clayton Anthracite Leather are the perfect addition to any girls closet. The color is neither gold nor silver; it’s more of an in-between pewter that is classically beautiful – much like the penny loafer style itself. My mind is made up, I really think I need these.

Roxy "Penny" Over the years I have realized that Roxy is synonymous with three things:

So it is no surprise that their contribution to the world of penny loafers would be a pastel-colored piece of paradise. I am currently lusting after the Regatta Blue, as it is the color of the sky, water, and most of my wardrobe; though the Aspen Gold is also irresistible with its bright, sunshiny persona. The patent leather upper is slick, shiny, and splendrous; and the white contrasting stitching is, in my mind, simply irresistible. The fact that these are only $47.95 a pair makes me want to buy them in every color!

Charlotte Russe "Penny Loafer Pumps" Sure it may not be the exact style that June Cleaver trotted around in on Leave It to Beaver; but for the girl who wants penny loafer style without sacrificing height, these Charlotte Russe Penny Loafer Pumps are perfect, perfect, perfect! And I’m not just saying that because I am absolutely smitten with the candy apple red color and black contrasting stitching. They really are perfect. And, unlike the typical penny loafer, you’re able to wear these for a night out on the town with your pals, or that cutie you’ve been crushing on for the past month.
