New York State of Mind

Oh darlings, I may currently be living in the desert-like conditions of Southern California, but as a native New Yorker I will forever and always be in a New York state of mind. I am a child of the city; at home within the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan location. The Park Avenue penthouses are my dreamt-about playgrounds. The Brooklyn Brownstones are the headliners of my beauteous daydreams. The SoHo lofts are the sublime stars of my daily reverie. But, alas, for the time being I must simply live within the sassy city via photographs, memories, and fantasies. And, perhaps, my splendrous nail color.

Oui, at the moment, my New York state of mind is being fueled by the alluring shades found within N.Y.C.’s recently debuted line In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish. It may seem impossible for a nail color to accomplish a feat such as this, but we are not discussing mere feelings and emotions established through a haute hue; or the way a startling stain looks in contrast to your ensemble du jour. Non, rather the twenty-four stunning shades found within this collection pay tribute to the city that never sleeps by titling each one after a fast-paced hot spot within the smart and stylish Big Apple.

Colors are based off of pale and poppy pinks, trendy turquoises, winter whites, lovely lilacs, classy corals, bouncy blues, magical magentas, ravishing reds, bewitching browns, breathtaking blacks, and include locations such as Grand Central Station, East Village, Little Italy, West Village, Mulberry Street, Bryant Park, Central Park, SoHo, Penn Station, Chelsea, Madison Avenue, Canal Street, Chinatown, Times Square, Lincoln Center, Wall Street, Greenwich Village, Broadway, Manhattan, Park Avenue, Downtown, Uptown, Midtown, and Fifth Avenue.

These are the locations where the NYC Prep cast and their pretentious posse spend hours upon hours. The district’s where Blair Waldorf, Serena van der Woodsen, and the rest of the Gossip Girl crew exchange insults, shop ‘til they drop, and kiss cute boys in outlandish situations. The neighborhoods where Edith Wharton’s tales of affluence, money, power, class, and Old New York were set. And now, the quaint, the fanciful, the antiquated locales that are home to vintage bookstores and cozy coffeehouses can be found front and center upon your fingernails.

♥ East Village is destined to be donned with an all black ensemble to a poetry reading where it will add a little pop of turquoise sparkle to its somber slate surroundings.

♥ Fifth Avenue, Downtown, Greenwich Village, Uptown, Midtown, Madison Avenue, Penn Station, and Times Square will be in heavy rotation during bikini season, as the bright mix of poppy and bronzy shades obviously call for a secluded beach and a fruity drink.

♥ Central Park, SoHo, Mulberry Street, Park Avenue, and Wall Street will do the trick for sample sales when it’s necessary to look like an innocent, uninterested buyer, as opposed to the lethal shopper you truly are.

♥ The ballet and Broadway shows would be rudimentary without a little assistance from Lincoln Center, Canal Street, West Village, Manhattan, Broadway, Chelsea, and Chinatown.

♥ Grand Central Station and Little Italy will make a weekend getaway to the Hamptons sumptuously sophisticated.

♥ And fashion week? Quite frankly, it wouldn’t be perfect without a little Bryant Park.

Who am I kidding? I am in dire need of the entire collection, and am waiting for the chance to call all twenty-four lovely colors my own.

The question is bellas...are you in a New York state of mind yet?

Fashionably yours!

Peace Out

Forty years have passed since 1969, the original summer of love. A time remembered for its hippie headbands, Neil Armstrong’s infamous “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” quote, anti-war demonstrations held at college campuses all over the country, tie-dye shirts, bellbottoms, free hugs, the historic music festival known as Woodstock, and, most importantly, one of my absolute favorite symbols...the peace sign. It’s a design that has lived on for decades, and, to this day, still remains a mark of harmony, friendship, unity, and, of course, fashion! So why not openly peace out?

Target "Long Peace and Love Charm Necklace - Goldtone" A coin-like pendant inscribed with the word Peace. A three-dimensional heart. A feathered wing. A peace sign. Obviously you’ve already figured out the message that Target’s Long Peace and Love Charm Necklace – Goldtone is trying to get across; and no, it’s not just the fact that this is a 30-inch necklace that will do magical things for your wardrobe. Yes, the pendant necklace in question will seemingly take your clothes collection to new heights what with its antique wash and understated charm; but it also promotes thoughts of freedom, unification, totality, and alliances. I can see it now. Janis Joplin. On stage in her floating tie-dye frock. This beautiful bauble hanging from her neck. It’s a piece that works now, and would have made the cut so many years ago.

Urban Outfitters "Peace Ring" You know me for my love of cocktail rings that are large, lovely, and loaded with bling; yet even I can’t resist the easygoing charm of this Peace Ring. A skinny band adorned with a sculpted peace sign, and irresistible in either the polished silver or antique goldtone; this is an ideal piece for the girl looking to let out her inner happy-go-lucky hippie in a very subtle manner. Plus, it makes for the perfect conversation piece with handsome strangers!

Jules Smith "Kiss N Tell Peace" Sometimes the most straightforward way to tell your adoring fans what you’re thinking is to simply spell it out for them. And there is no more tres chic way to spell out your thoughts than via this uncomplicated, effortlessly elementary Kiss N Tell Peace Bracelet by the clever Jules Smith. The sterling silver charm is emblazoned with one little word – PEACE. But that one word holds so much power within; almost as much as you possess as you custom create the Kiss N Tell Peace bracelet of your dreams. If you haven’t realized it yet, you are the one who will do the choosing in terms of what color cord you want slung about your wrist. Will it be the navy, the red, the black, the yellow, or the green? The choice is yours. Kiss kiss!

Free People "Peace and Love Earrings" What’s even better than peace? The added bonus of love, to be sure. Thus, these Peace and Love Earrings are a flawless way to showcase your compassionate side. Crafted of faceted gold nuggets that are elegantly wired together – one in the shape of a peace sign, the other in the shape of a heart – these drop earrings pay tribute to the tender, love, and care that runs through your veins; while adding a decadent, face-framing touch that brings all eyes to your neck and jaw-line. Though the true clincher is the very DIY-inspired detail that gives these treasures an off-the-Richter-scale type of cuteness not seen since your days of eating paste in the schoolyard. Earrings have never looked so yummy.

Charlotte Russe "Stacked Statement Rings" Who said that a statement had to be made by way of an oversized necklace clasped tightly about your throat? To make a true statement, one must say nothing at all, and simply let her hands do the talking; and that is precisely what will be done if you’re donning these Stacked Statement Rings. The trio of burnished metal rings can be worn separately, or as a set; either way they make a very clear testimony to your hangers-on. Each ring proclaims a different message – one is emblazoned with the word Love; another is dotted with peace signs; and still another is modestly encircled with turquoise stones. No matter how you wear them they exude a vintage ambience that is positively impossible to ignore.

Are you ready to peace out?

Fashionably yours!

Court Short

Anna Kournikova. Maria Sharapova. Ana Ivanovic. Severine Bremond. Maria Kirilenko. I know it’s not my imagination. It’s as if being ruggedly beautiful is a prerequisite for being a professional female tennis player. Each one comes packaged with an exotic name, sassily tousled hair, and amazing skills both on the court and in front of the camera where they take up modeling on the side. Sadly, I have no skills on the court that I know of, and no, I don’t possess a name that rolls off the tongue in a saucy manner. What I do have, however, is a penchant for falling in love with sportswear, and what I’m yearning for at present is the Nike Smash Pleated Women’s Tennis Skirt.

Oh darlings, I’m well-aware of the fact that this is a skirt meant for the court, the fact that it’s crafted of Dri-Fit polyester and spandex is indicative reality of this enough. But I’m sorry I clearly can’t resist the fashion factor of this court short.

The pleated bottom adds just the right amount of flair I search for in a flippy skirt; the bright, punchy pastel colors – China Rose and Glass Blue serving as my favorites – seemingly have the power to awaken more neutral toned ensembles; and the spandex material ensures that you’ll be able to twist and shout without any hesitation. Not to mention there’s the added sporty bonus of internal shorts that are hidden within, so you’ll never have to worry about Marilyn Monroe moments while freely shopping along Fifth Avenue.

Now, if only my purchase of this pretty would ensure talent and effortless loveliness alike, I would buy hundreds upon hundreds of them. At least I am sure of one thing, it is bound to bring a newfound beauty to my wardrobe!

Shy Girl

Hands well-placed to keep the gaze of others out of sight; a physical trick thought up to avoid making eye contact, or as little as possible, to random passersby. A tactic to conquer anxiety. To ward off being judged, forgotten, or even rejected. Pouty red lips puckered tightly, a sign that little to no words will be spoken. A hushed silence destined to hover awkwardly mid-air.

It’s true; she is a shy girl…a mousey mademoiselle trying to find her place in the world. To find comfort in her own skin. And she’s destined to, if the stars lingering about her are any indication. Once those delicate hands are removed from their place, she is certain to shine like a shooting star. She will no longer be quiet and reserved. She will be outspoken and personable. Until then, she remains the Shy Girl.

At the moment? Well, the Shy Girl is exactly what I’m looking for. She is a black and white sketch representation of you, me, and countless others. She is a pretty and petite fashionista dying to break through; to have her voice heard. Her incorporation of brightly colored accessories – like the Blair Waldorf inspired bow haphazardly sitting atop her stringy mop of hair, or the bracelets twirled about her wrist – are just the beginning of the vibrancy that lies within.

A mix between Delia’s other divine creation, the Young Love tee, which I raved about here, and Danny Roberts’ Girls in Glasses tee, which I literally begged for here; the Shy Girl top stays true to the charactered graphic tees Delia’s is known for. Yet the subject matter makes the shopper feel as if the artist has seemingly tapped into her psyche, and uncovered the insecure darling hidden underneath the strong, fashionable façade that faces the world from day-to-day.

It’s a decorous piece that sports a multitude of hidden meanings, while remaining sassy and cute to boot! I’d love to wear her with black tights topped with cutoff denim shorts, flat black boots, a charcoal-colored bow headband, and bangles galore. I imagine that’s exactly what she would want.

What does the Shy Girl mean to you?

Design Divide

Call it what you will – a classic case of OCD, a need to be in control of every situation, a desire to stay organized at any cost possible. It’s your opinion, so think what you’d like. I, however, am a firm believer in the proverb made popular in 1827 by Reverend C.A. Goodrich, “A place for everything and everything in its place.” It’s a truism, to be sure. One that I hold fast to on a daily basis.

The one area where my life is in complete disarray, if you must know, is my makeup drawer. I have lip glosses scattered here, there, and everywhere – in boxes, under sinks, you name it. Multiple open tubes of mascara are tossed haphazardly throughout the house. And you simply don’t want to know about the nail polish – there’s a bottle or two in my dresser drawer, a few in the kitchen cupboard, and at least five tossed in the medicine cabinet; all different colors, mind you. Yes, when it comes to makeup organizational skills I lack zero. That is sure to change with the introduction of PB Teen’s Classic Makeup Sectional's.

Washed in a shade of antique white, the Classic Makeup Sectional is something that would put every makeup connoisseur’s mind at ease, and give the adorable aficionado the chance to easily concentrate on applying one’s maquillage, as opposed to focusing on spending hours upon hours on a hunt for the requisite cosmetic.

While the small sectional reminds me ever so much of a pint-sized bureau, complete with two pull drawers and eight little compartments for storing everyday essentials, I find that my affection leans more towards the large offering which is bigger in terms of width as opposed to height, yet still sports compartments galore – three petite pull drawers, twelve open alcoves, and an extra place perfect for sitting a bottle or two of your favorite perfume.

I can already feel it. All of my worries about makeup organization are slipping quickly from my mind, replaced with thoughts of either one of these classic lovelies residing upon my stark white countertop. No more will I forage for my foundation, or be forced to leave the house without my eyelashes properly outfitted in blackest black mascara. With the Classic Makeup Sectionals everything I need will be right at my platinum-painted fingertips...my beloved cosmetics, meet your new home.

Heartbreaker

They’re immature and childish, a piece created for preschool games of make-believe and dress up. No! They’re a fashionable piece that is affordable, and an utter necessity to your burgeoning eyewear collection. As you can see, my mind is waging a war amongst itself. Part of me is convinced that heart-shaped sunglasses are juvenile; but the other side believes that they are a spectacular bit of Lolita-influenced fabulosity that must be embraced wholeheartedly. I tend to be leaning towards the latter...now I simply have to locate a pair that suits my every desire.

Urban Outfitters "Sweet Heart Sunglasses" What’s sweeter than candy but just as yummy? Urban Outfitters’ Sweet Heart Sunglasses, darling! For $10, these are the quintessential heart-shaped sunglasses for the girl looking to fall in love with a pretty piece of eyewear. Available in a radiant red; a translucent yet pleasing pink; a beguiling black; and a well-formed white, the Sweet Heart Sunglasses make it possible to shower each and every color in your wardrobe with tender, love, and care; while still making you the belle of the ball. One, two, three, four...I declare I need them all!

Forever 21 "Sunglasses" Perhaps the only thing cuter than heart-shaped sunglasses are those sporting a checker pattern so reminiscent of sweltering summer days spent sitting in the bleachers at the speedway. A cheeky checker print has always brought visions of pin-ups posing next to muscle cars, and fun in the sun; therefore, these Sunnies from Forever 21 are simply crying out for a retro bandeau bikini top, cutoff denim shorts, wedges, and the makings of a backyard barbeque. Such a landscape would be the picture perfect scene for the debut of your adorable new accessory – now you simply have to make one last decision...the black, the hot pink, or the turquoise.

Fred Flare "Hard Candy Heart Sunnies" Trust me, it’s not at all hard to see why Fred Flare’s Hard Candy Heart Sunnies are so scrummy.

♥Tasty colors include licorice, bubble gum, peppermint, and cherry.

♥Gradient lenses keep the sun out via a deep purple hue which features an ombre-like effect as it morphs into a pale purple.

♥There’s the option to purchase a pair with clear lenses to embrace your inner geek-chic.

By now you probably don’t need me to tell you this, but I will...they’re magically delicious!

GreatLookz "Glittery Sweet Heart Sunglasses in Red" I’m a girl; therefore I am not ashamed to admit that I go gaga over the mere thought of glitter. The shimmer. The sparkle. The shine. It’s an irresistible addition to any piece that cannot be resisted; which is why, in the same fashion I coveted Dorothy’s ruby red slippers back in my diaper-donning days, I am convinced that my life would be, quite possibly, incomplete without the addition of these Glittery Sweet Heart Sunglasses in Red. As opposed to being bare, or a single color, these specials are covered in a blend of silver and red glitter which surrounds a very unique cherry red lens. Don’t fool yourself gorgeous...summer fun simply cannot be had without a pair of these framing your face!

Juicy Couture "'Love You' Sunglasses" I should just stop fooling myself; I’m obsessed with romance, I’m in love with love, so I clearly couldn’t help but fall in love with Juicy Couture’s “Love You” Sunglasses. As opposed to the brighter heart-shaped sunnies I typically stumble upon, with dark lenses and a more party-girl, playful vibe; this particular piece retains a more ethereal, innocent, romantic touch in terms of the colors – a translucent pink and a winter white – and the more neutral toned lenses which accompany them – brown gradient for the white and burgundy gradient for the pink. They are less obtrusive to the face than their brighter hued counterparts, yet every bit as alluring. To put it bluntly...I’ve fallen in love with the “Love You” Sunglasses!

What about you loves...are you ready to be a heartbreaker?

Fashionably yours!

Smitten Saturday

♥Teddy Bear Picnic I’m not embarrassed to admit it...I’ve never outgrown the teddy bear phase. Other stuffed animals may have lost their luster in my mind over the years, but the teddy bear has retained its sparkle, sticking with me through thick and thin, and comforting me in any situation. And so, while it may be impossible for me to take a stuffed teddy with me wherever I go, it’s not impossible to indulge in a little teddy bear lovin’ in terms of fashion and accessories. Case in point, the slouchy Sketched Bear Tee which would look utterly adorable with a flouncy cotton skirt; the Jelly Belly Bear Necklace which is the ideal way to keep a cuddly teddy close to your heart at all times; and the Harrod’s Teddy Bear Collection Tote – a bag that brings an assortment of teddies right to your handbag. The teddy bear picnic is only just beginning, mon amis!

♥Shake It Up You’ve experienced those moments before, I know you have. In fact, we all have. You know them quite well. You have the perfect idea for a dress in your mind – the color, the cut, the length – but you simply can’t locate the piece de resistance in the hundreds of retail stores that you frequent. Non, it is relegated to remain a figment of your fantasies until you merely move on and find something else that tickles your fancy. But such a fate does not have to be…not anymore, at least! StyleShake is the answer to your design dreams. Here you not only choose your own fabrics, but you also design the piece that has been floating about in your mind all this time, and will be dancing about in it within ten working days. It’s a way to ensure that you’ll be the only one wearing your gorgeous garb, and there’s nothing more thrilling than that; so shake it up!

♥Wall Mart I’ve heard quite too many of them over the years. The horror stories about painting jobs that have gone awry. The devastation that accompanies a bedroom redesign. It’s enough to have kept my walls stark white since day one. But I’m bored. I’m sick of the bland. I’m tired of the blasé. I want a quick fix that will spruce up my living space, and breathe a little life into my humble abode without forcing any permanent changes. I want...wall decals! Currently I am captivated by flair4all’s Bird Blossoms in Vintage Charm which is understated yet unbelievable; loxii’s Frames to make up for the lack of art and photographs adorning my walls; and flair4all’s Vintage Vinyl to appease my music-loving soul. Obviously it’s time to channel my inner interior decorator.♥The Caped Crusader Dyan Sheldon’s Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen was a book I clamored for when it hit stores. Regardless of the fact that it wasn’t my favorite read, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Mary Elizabeth – aka Lola – the dramatic star of the novel, whose feverish desire for all things fashionable spoke to me like no other. It was she who introduced me to capes as an accessory, not a Halloween costume. Since then – and, mind you, we’re talking over five years – I have searched high and low for a cape that was low-key yet high fashion. Never have I pinpointed one that would do the job…until, perhaps, now. The Nina Leonard Ribbed Turtleneck Cape with Half Zipper Detail is quite like a cardigan or sweatshirt, only more sleek and fashion-forward thanks to the turtleneck, tiny zipper detail, and availability in ruby or black. The Cable-Knit Cape looks ideal for the crispy fall weather that is fast-approaching. The cropped cut keeps the style humble, while still showing off a high society flair. And the Spiewak “Heleana” Cape in Charcoal Heather? The military details keep it looking marvelous. I know it’s surprising but it’s true...this may be the year I become the caped crusader!

♥So You Want to Be French You can learn the language. You can eat the food. You can mimic the accent. But sometimes, the one thing you truly need to be French is the assistance of a book. A little guide that will help you to embrace your inner French girl, and introduce her to the world. Reading material that makes it simple to unleash the Francophile within and turn her into a dashing mademoiselle fit to mingle with the best of them. Helena Frith-Powell’s All You Need to Be Impossibly French is a study, so to speak, of the secrets, lives, and lusts of the French woman put together via interviews with former models, politicians, beauty pageant queens, and more. Debra Ollivier’s Entre-Nous gives us the lowdown on what steps need to be taken for the average girl to tap into the French femme fatale lying deep within. And for those who simply crave the menu of the French woman without the weight gain, Mireille Guiliano’s French Women Don’t Get Fat provides the recipes that keep the madame’s fit yet full. Oui, I’m off to do a bit of reading.

♥Bra-vo There is one thing that causes so much unnecessary aggravation in my life, and that is finding a bit of lingerie that will work with any and every item in my closet. From my off-the-shoulder tees to my halter tops; tanks and tubes; and even the star of Tuesday’s Back Talk. It has always seemed impossible, and has resulted in a constant need to spend money on every cut imaginable. But no more. The key to the perfect unmentionable is Fashion Form’s Infinite Options Bra. How many ways can it be worn? Not one. Not two. Not even six. No, it’s even better...you can wear it nine different ways, making it the perfect accompaniment to anything you plan on wearing. Gone are my days of shelling out tons of cash on a multitude of intimates. All I truly need is a few of these, and I’m set!

What were you smitten with this week?

Fashionably yours!

Nightie-Night

The heat. There is no other solution than to simply blame it on the heat. To place all responsibility regarding my betrayal of comfy, cozy flannel pajamas with wide legs, and button-down tops, upon the stifling heat that is making bedtime a nightmare – even before my head has hit the pillow, and my eyelids have grown heavy. I’m aware that it’s a sweat-induced, scoundrel-like bit of behavior, but it’s certainly the truth; for I would not have cast my typical bedroom attire aside so simply for feminine, flirty pieces like the Canterbury Knit Nightie had the temperatures simply stayed within bearable numbers, as opposed to exceeding the mid-90s and leaving me drenched in dread and desperation. And not just for an air conditioner, mind you; but a way to retain my cuteness without compromising my conquest for comfort. I should think that there is no more alluring piece of boudoir accoutrement than the ladylike Lolita-influenced Canterbury Knit Nightie from Victoria’s Secret. A tantalizing, thigh-length piece that hangs lankly about your frame, yet manages to accentuate each and every curve in the most elegant, modest fashion imaginable. The cotton knit creation is breathable, keeping you cool no matter how stifling the air around you may become; while the romantic lace and satin ribbon details found surrounding the bust and hem contribute a very sleek, undeniably chic, sense of swank glamour which prevents you from ever looking untidy. Whether taken home in the winter white or the sweet pink, there are a few requirements that simply must be met: ♥Satin sheets in a color of your choosing. ♥A modern-day Marie Antoinette-approved French bedroom design that includes gilded mirrors and vanities, a renaissance headboard, splendrous chandeliers, and a chaise longue for those damsel-in-distress moments that are bound to plague you from time to time. ♥Draperies surrounding your Louis XIV bed to shield you from the cruel, outside world. Why such an atmosphere, you ask? Well darling, it would simply be unfair for attire as grand as the Canterbury Knit Nightie to take up residence in a location that is any less luxurious than the aforementioned. Besides, judging by the sweet as candy factor alone, you will most likely find it impossible to ever change out of the nightie in question again; so you’d better be holed up in a glamorous location once you slip it on, for it’s certain to be clinging to your skin for quite a bit of time. Perhaps all these years I’ve been wrong. Maybe my true bedtime destiny lied not in the baggy bits of bliss I have often turned to, but in short and saccharine frilly pieces that were capable of inducing nothing but sweet dreams. Clearly I’ve learned my lesson...nightie-night all. Fashionably yours! Thanks to Victoria's Secret for the pictures.

La Tribu Branchée

Khaki is not meant to be chic. It’s a color that instantly makes you think of muddy treks across dry, sand-covered saharas. Of wide-open spaces populated by mosquitoes and other creepy-crawlies. Of excursions through caves and shrub-covered plains. But no, Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock, the design duo dynamos behind Vena Cava, refuse to accept such a fate for the kitschy khaki. They decline to welcome such thoughts. Instead, they have taken the color under their wing in the hopes of turning it into something more sophisticated, as illustrated by way of the Printed Khaki Dress – Gap coupons.

Typically with such a frock, you would need a statement necklace to add a slice of sophistication and glitz to the neutral-toned wonder. So is not the case with the Printed Khaki Dress, as wrapped about the neckline is an ebony-hued tribal design that adds a sense of drama to the simple silhouette. Reminiscent of a built-in coal-colored shawl, the end result is an ensemble that is slinky yet inky.

The elasticized waist cinches the free-falling finery in the same matter as would a belt, which provides a splendrous bit of ruching that is fashionable yet fun; while the short sleeves make this a bit that would look divine worn either day or night.

Slip on a pair of flat, open-toed sandals; yank your hair out of its tight chignon to let it fall cheekily about your shoulders; and let yourself go. After all, don’t you want to be a member of la tribu branchée – or, in more simple terms, the trendy tribe?

Fashionably yours!

Blaze Daze

Don’t worry mas petites, I’m not bewildered and confused; nor am I in some shopping-induced stupor. Rather, I’m simply dazed over the decadence of blazers. Once thought of as a staple for the businesswoman’s wardrobe; it’s a piece that has made its way out of the boardroom and into the depths of bohemian society and the club-hopping, cocktail drinking social scene alike. It’s a wear-with-anything bit of beauty dripping with sophisticated effervescence and class. And yes, it can’t wait to meet you.

Urban Outfitters "Lux Little Brother Blazer" I’ve always wanted a big brother. Perhaps more for the chance to flirt with his cute friends, than to use as a confidante of sorts; but, nonetheless, it was not meant to be. Now I realize that I simply should have aimed for a little brother; for if this Lux Little Brother Blazer is any indication, he would have been the perfect clothes-swapping ally for all of my fashion desires. A shrunken, cropped fit makes it look as if you’ve swiped this straight out of your little bro’s closet; yet the feminine, black tie affair details – including a back hem slit, a one button placket, and three button cuffs – provide a glamorous girly edge to this black bombshell. Looking for a way to dress up your distressed acid-wash jeans? You’ve just found it.

Free People "Studded Stripe Blazer" No, I am not a wannabe member of Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club, I simply can’t resist a good studding every now and then, and this ivory Studded Stripe Blazer is decked out in them. Unlike the typical blazer, you will not find a notched collar, or button down front here; in their place there are round metal studs, a standing collar, and an open front, embellishments that add a sense of rock ‘n’ roll to a piece of clothing that is oftentimes regarded as stuffy and boring. This is a blazer that would work wonders when topping a plain white tee and mini; or accessorized with long metal chains, and dazzling cocktail rings. An added bonus? The striped wool makes it feel more like a comfy cardigan than a baggy blazer. Oui, this beauty possesses all the creaminess of vanilla ice cream, topped with the sultriness of whipped cream and a bright red cherry.

Victoria's Secret "Boyfriend Blazer" I long for the day when a handsome boy invites me to a swank cocktail party. He’ll be wearing a dark-hued blazer over a crisp, white button down; I’ll be dressed to the nines in an elegant, sleeveless cocktail dress, my hair pulled into a sassy updo. We’ll make our way out to the balcony (there’s always a balcony, isn’t there?) where the brisk air will leave goosebumps upon my arms. He’ll remove his jacket, and place it about my shoulders, and...we’ll live happily ever after. Sure, it hasn’t been left upon my arms by a handsome fellow, but this Boyfriend Blazer is most definitely the material morsel of my fantasy. The loose fit would look lovely when placed about a teeny tiny cocktail dress, or simply dancing atop a pair of denim; while the front flap pockets seemingly call out to be filled with silk cocktail napkins, or a flirty pair of dark aviators. Due to the fact that I’m single at the moment, I think it only proper that this blazer represent my beau for the time being!

Pins and Needles "Patchwork Blazer" Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Pins and Needles? Well, they’ll simply dress me in all sorts of fabulousness via their versatile Patchwork Blazer. A coat of many colors has been completely updated to take on a more hip, youthful vibe by giving it a slim cut, adding multiple front pockets, and garnishing it with an array of wild shades tossed together haphazardly to make it an item that you’ll wear over and over again thanks to its multifaceted nature. This is just chaotic enough to thrill the oftentimes vicious Blair Waldorf, known for her kooky color combinations; yet tame enough to become fundamental in your vintage-craving closet.

Alice + Olivia "Cotton Sateen Rolled Sleeve Blazer" love a layered look. A layered look that lets a little dash of color peek out from underneath to tease and tantalize the world. A hidden style that lurks underneath the top coat, hiding from the outside. Thus, the Cotton Sateen Rolled Sleeve Blazer has become quite the object of my affection. It may look like a simple black blazer, woven with a two-button closure for those times when it gets a little nippy; a notched collar sitting about the neck, pockets sitting squarely atop the hip, and above the chest. But no, this seemingly little black blazer has a little secret in the form of contrasting white cuffs that adorn the sleeves, fooling the world into believing that you’re wearing a white top underneath, when really it’s simply a trick of the eye, a sleight of hand, so to speak. One that adds a little volume and sass to an otherwise plain LBJ. Roll one my way, s’il vous plait!

Have you found yourself in a blaze daze yet, darlings?

Fashionably yours!

Back Talk

It’s easy to flaunt it all. To wear barely there clothing or teeny tiny bikinis that make jaws drop. The real way to be seductive however, ladies, is to be secretive about your motives. To be sassy and alluring without letting on that you’re searching for a reaction. To be effortlessly scandalous; yet still receive a silent answer from your admirers without a hitch. The key lies in effervescence. In being bubbly and frothy; in sparkling like a $50 dollar bottle of water picked up at a chichi paparazzi-hounded restaurant. In letting a little skin peek through via a sassy off-the-shoulder top; or, even more enticing, a little back talk in the form of Nightcap Clothing’s Drop Back Top, from the place I love to shop until I drop – Shopbop coupons.

From the front, you would never imagine that the loose-fitting Drop Back Top was anything other than a haute hippie little number that would look simply ravishing combined with motorcycle boots and a pair of frayed denim cutoffs – perhaps with a boyfriend jean fit and acid wash shading. But turn around, and darling, the world stops and gazes in amazement. Oui, the top that looked slouchy and sophisticated from one angle is actually in possession of a multifaceted, Jekyll and Hyde-like personality.

In the same fashion as the mullet, this is a top that embraces the term “business in the front, party in the back,” for the slub jersey with the saucy scoop, drops low in the back, and is adorned with a dainty little drawstring that seemingly ties the entire laid-back look into a pretty petite package to perfect to pass up.

Angelic in the white; smart in the silver; posh in the black. Forget the pricetag, loves, it’s a prim and proper piece with a healthy dose of brazenness that would work wonders in your wardrobe.

Besides, who can resist a little back talk every now and then?

Pretty in Prep

The first fifteen-years of my life revolved around prep schools. No, I didn’t actually attend one myself; I was simply obsessed with the uniforms. Call it the Rory Gilmore Syndrome. I believed that the uniforms donned by precocious private school students were hands down the most divine bit of fashion to ever grace the earth, and actually shopped around for items that resembled such style for my own everyday use. Sure, I’ve since come around, and realized that dressing like a schoolgirl isn’t the greatest way to spend your growing years; but I haven’t yet trained myself to ignore the deep, vibrant maroon, navy, teal, and berry colors associated with the haute hallowed halls. And now, Kooba has made it so that I don’t have to, thanks to the release of their NYC Prep inspired quartet of exclusive handbags that make it possible for anyone to join the jet set – at least in terms of accessories!

Jessie Bag In one of the very first episodes of Gossip Girl I fell in love with a gorgeous floppy hat perched upon Serena’s head that was a mix of red wine, maroon, eggplant, and plum colors. It was such a standout accessory that I have never forgotten it. Thus, when I laid eyes on the aubergine-toned Jessie Bag, I couldn’t help but dream of it once more; and covet its look-alike tote. The sassy suede is decked out in gold buckled hardware, and fully lined with a sensational, shimmery satin which makes this bucket bag take on an even more elegant appearance – both inside and out. Just like Jessie, in fact; the character she was specifically created for, whose dedication to throwing decadent parties to show off her designer duds, or raise money for good causes such as Operation Smile work to display a mix of beauty via outwards appearances, and good-nature from within. My fall/autumn wardrobe? If you must know, it’s simply desperate to be accessorized with this beauty.

Camille Bag Camille and her drama-filled, boy-loving, college-obsessing, lacrosse-playing, fast-talking, SAT-taking ways are the Upper West Side ’s answer to the snarky yet sensational Blair Waldorf; and this Camille Bag, what with its gold-toned bar detail, luxurious navy leather color, and hobo-influenced one shoulder strap is the answer to all of your handbag issues. The slight gathered bow-like appearance in the front adds an extra oomph of volume to the shape, making it a bit pear-like in appearance; while the many pockets hiding out inside make it functional, in addition to being flashy and fabulous, of course! When you’re headed off to an interview, it makes you look professional and classy; but for those nights when you’re looking to let off a little steam at nightclubs (an activity that Camille partakes in quite often), it proves to be a low-key yet luscious way to tote your essentials from here to there. It’s a naughty slice of navy that’s so very, very nice!

Taylor Bag Darlings, you know just as well as I do that finding an appropriate bag that can work wonders with a cocktail dress or a pair of frayed denim jeans is quite a tough predicament. Taylor is an expert on the subject. After all, she’s a student at a public, fast-paced magnet school, but the Upper West Side precious has no qualms about partying with the Upper East Side pals she’s managed to become one with. Hence, a bag that works in any social situation or with any set is a must. Not just for her, of course; but for the rest of us, as well! Luckily, the Taylor Bag exudes this ability. The teal leather tote sporting a double shoulder strap comes across as subdued, but once you lay eyes on the gold studding and hardware, in addition to the bronze-hued satin lining, it’s quite obvious that yes, this is a gilded gift for purse-loving fashionistas to shield and protect from the dirt and grime of the outside world forever and ever. Which, oddly enough, is the same impression that came to mind when I was first introduced to Taylor – on the small screen, that is.

Kelli Bag A bold, vibrant berry color looks lovely when seen on the shores of the Hamptons , or when flitting along Park Avenue . It’s also a showstopping shade that draws all eyes to you without a moment’s hesitation. Perhaps that’s why the Kelli Bag was made with the independent, aspiring songstress Kelli in mind. The berry leather bag, like Kelli, is anything but ordinary. The unique shape puts it in a class of its own thanks to the grainy, almost snakeskin-like body, which is reminiscent of the lush chairs found within the privileged offices of prominent doctors and lawyers alike; while the gold accents bring about a lavish splash of class that will make your jaw drop (exactly the reaction I myself had when I saw the inside of Kelli’s Hamptons hideaway). It’s impossible not to feel starstruck when gazing upon this beauty!

Which prep do you want; or should I say, which prep do you want to be?

Smitten Saturday

♥Beau-ed Over In preparation for Anna Sui’s Gossip Girl-inspired arrival at Target, I have begun the hunt for magical hair accessories to truly bring out the oftentimes beastly Blair that lies deep within me. Adornments that will add a fierce pizzazz to the flirty, vintage-like frocks that have the designer’s name written all over them; and now, I have found many that perfectly fit the bill from my new favorite shop – Andrea’s Beau. The Dupioni Silk Bow Headband in slate blue would look simply lovely paired with this white wonder. The Velvet Open Rose Adjustable Headband in wine would add such a wonderful pop of crimson against this all-black beauty. And there’s simply no question in my mind that the Floral Paillette Adjustable Soft Headband in pumpkin would add an extra kick of sass to this spicy number. Oui, I’m undoubtedly beau-ed over!

♥Park It! I suppose I’ve known you all long enough to make you privy to a little tidbit that not many close to me are aware of. Online shopping? Well, to put it bluntly, it’s quite an obsession of mine. Yet even I, a skilled Online shopper find that locating the perfect piece to fit the picture in your mind can be downright drudgery at times; which is why I’ve become quite reliant on 25Park. Namely, their quintessential Quick Guides, which literally point you in the right fashion direction depending on the type of event, or style you’re shopping for. Sixteen different categories – The Lady Who Lunches, Sexy Attire, The Working Woman, Boho Chic, The Pregnant Girl, Great Gift Item, Formal Attire, Bang For Buck, Bridal/Baby Shower, Cocktail Attire, Rehearsal Dinner, Beach Attire, Press Clippings, Warm Weather, Great Holiday Attire, Ski Bunny – cover every fashion predicament you may find yourself in, and give you the ability to make finding what you’re searching for an absolute cinch. If you must know, I’m off to visit them right now. What am I looking for today? Hmmm...perhaps some Cocktail Attire.

♥A Rush of Beauty to the Lips You will never find me out and about with anything less than six – count that, six – tubes of lip gloss taking up residence in my handbag. No, I don’t keep them on hand for those moments infiltrated with stolen kisses from the bevy of cute boys who come in and out of my life; I’m simply addicted, and can’t be without the fruity-tasting shine sticks. Hence, due to my years of devotion to lip gloss, I count myself as an expert on the subject of all things glossy, and proclaim here that the greatest gloss on the planet? Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush. In less than a year I’ve used Mango Madness, Bubble It Up, Grapefruit Blast, and Strawberry Fizz, four flavors that were glorious to the very last drop. High, long-lasting shine; yummy, scrummy flavors. Darlings, it’s a rush of beauty to the lips!
♥Miss Marc Roald Dahl’s Matilda one of my favorite books since the first time I read it back in the first grade. In my mind, I was Matilda, sans the nasty, uncaring parents. I even purchased a doll that was the spitting image of the patchwork toy Matilda lugged around with her; a doll whom is sitting in the garage right now, and who looks quite a bit like the kitschy, bug-eyed, raven-haired Miss Marc thought up by the marvelous Marc Jacobs. A discovery, of course, which leads me to believe that my newfound obsession with the Miss Marc in question has quite a bit to do with my devotion to the fiction of my childhood. L'un numéroter on my Miss Marc lust list? The Miss Marc Ballet Flats. Next in line is the Miss Marc Tote with Beach Accessories. And, not to be forgotten, the Little Miss Marc Cover-Up because a day at the beach surely isn’t complete without a little company from Miss Marc. Not to mention that the peachy color, back keyhole, and tres chic gathers simply make me giddy. Have you met Miss Marc?

♥Baby Love I have just come to a very important realization. While babies are tres adorable and fun to play with; I’m beginning to think that one of the underlying reasons for people to want to have babies has quite a bit to do with the perfectly charming favors they can hand out at their baby showers! Regardless of the fact that I’m not attending a baby shower myself, nor am I having a baby of my own, I happened to be browsing Baby Shower Favors the other day and...well, I’m sorry to admit, I found many things that I desperately want. The Two Peas in a Pod Candle is just about the sweetest thing I have ever laid eyes on, and brings back memories of my childhood love for Cabbage Patch Kids dolls – one of which is still sitting in my bedroom. The Classic Pram Favor Boxes with Unique Expandable Bonnets are reminiscent of the carriages seen being pushed up and down Park Avenue by posh society ladies, and would look rather divine decorating a glossy bureau – or even my desk at work! The Magic Slippers Shoe Bottle Opener are a well-heeled treat for the shoe obsessed, and a necessity for the kitchen. And the Enchanted Carriage Favor Boxes? If I must confess...they make me feel like Cinderella. I wonder if someone would think me strange if I threw a Baby Shower with no guest-of-honor to be spoken of; just for the fun of it, and the opportunity to buy some of these Baby Shower Favors!

♥A O-K Pop Over the past three years that I have been visiting the deliciously wicked Perez Hilton, I have become well-aware of one very important thing...Perezzie? Well, he has the most divine taste in music, always managing to discover new talents before they have actually been discovered. His current musical crush du jour? South Korea’s K-pop girl group Wonder Girls. They’re supremely cute, with fun retro-inspired fashions and hairstyles. If their debut U.S. single Nobody is any indication, they’re amazingly talented. And, obviously, they’re destined for stardom in the States. Love them!

La Femme Mystérieuse

Oh darlings, I tried, I certainly tried, but it was difficult…scratch that, impossible for me to resist this new piece of headwear. I’ve already admitted that, as someone who has bangs, it’s not a good idea to smother them with a well-placed hat. It’s better to simply adorn my head with bands of poppy colors and sizes. But alas, I couldn’t turn away from this Kimchi Blue Straw Ribbon Floppy from UO.

Ever since I met the precocious, Plaza-dwelling Eloise, I have found myself obsessed with going incognito. With keeping to myself, and staying a mystery to random passersby. To ooze affluence and sophistication, yet remain completely anonymous to anyone on the outskirts of my inner circle. The Kimchi Blue Straw Ribbon Floppy makes all this and more possible.

The natural-colored woven beauty is dressed up with a skinny black grosgrain ribbon, and emphasizes a very day-at-the-Derby type of elegance what with its down-turned brim, and ability to be shaped and molded to your hearts desire. Whereas the American Apparel Wool Floppy Hat seems more fitting for the cooler fall and winter months; this particular piece seems more appropriately outfitted for the warmer spring and summer months when it can be paired with flirty sundresses, ankle-tied espadrilles, colorful tanks, and patterned bikinis.

Now is the time to do it loves. Toss aside your oversized sunglasses, plop this slice of sublimity atop your head, and unleash your inner femme mystérieuse!

Beachy Keen

While my Balenciaga look-alike is more synonymous with a best friend whom I can’t separate myself from; when it comes to the beach, I simply can’t bear to tote it along to a place where it is sure to wind up sandy, wet, and, quite possibly, smelly. No, it is times like this when I must depend on a bag more proper for a day spent seaside. Something that is roomy and rugged; cutting edge yet cute; adorable yet affordable. A bag that will hold all the necessary requirements for a trip to the shore, without risk of being ruined. A bag like...well, like one of these beachy beauties, of course!

Lilly Pulitzer "Sink Or Swim Bag" Ah Lilly...the princess of prep. The queen of serene. The personage of pastels. And now, the creator of one of the most adorable straw totes I have ever laid eyes on. White braided rope handles and a patent navy trim offset the wheat-colored straw of this Sink Or Swim Bag, which is embroidered with colorful swimming fish of varying sizes, in addition to the words akin to road trips – “Are we there yet?” The blend of poppy, tropical-inspired shades make it a cinch to pair this pretty with any summery getup you may have lurking in your closet...from that wild zig-zag monokini, to your lipstick red sundress. Are we there yet? Correction…is it mine yet?

Free People "Rice Paper Beach Tote" Eco-friendly. Roomy. Sturdy. Assembled from recycled detergent, rice, and storage bags. Available in three luscious colors – yellow, red, and green. Covered in vintage-inspired words and illustrations. No loves, this isn’t a figment of your imagination; nor is it a wish made upon a shooting star. If you must know (and yes, you must!), Free People’s Rice Paper Beach Tote is all you could ever want and more. The crinkly creation is functional and fabulous, managing to make space for your sunglasses and beach towel; change of clothes and sunscreen; reading material and flip flops; without forgoing flair, to be sure. Today I want the yummy yellow. Yesterday I was eyeing the ravishing red. Last week I was gaga over the green. Perhaps with such affordability the best thing to do is simply invest in all three; sounds like a plan to me!

Victoria's Secret "Supermodel Tote" Alessandra Ambrosio. Miranda Kerr. Marisa Miller. In my opinion, they are three of the most gorgeous supermodels on the planet. And now? Well, you can take them with you wherever you go; namely, the beach! The Supermodel Tote is the quintessential tagalong for a day of seafront lollygagging. Gray, silver-tinted waterproof PVC material serves as a classic backdrop to the piece de resistance – a photograph of the three supermodels frolicking upon the bank. The entire photograph – including the three lovely ladies – is displayed in black and white; while the bikinis they happen to be donning take center stage with bright, poppy colors. It’s the perfect size. It’s the perfect shape. It’s the perfect conversation piece. Let’s simply face it; it’s the perfect beachy purchase!

Athleta "Boho Beaded Bag" Sand that is white as snow. Water clear as a blue sky. Lush palm trees swaying to and fro in the cool breeze, a netted hammock strung up amidst them. Now that’s what I call a perfect day at the beach. But, even without such a tropical setting or locale, the Boho Beaded Bag manages to invoke these images in my mind with just one glance. Crafted of toyo straw (a material that is actually paper) woven into a shape similar to fish netting correspondent to that found within the cargo of a pirate’s ship, then outfitted with a palm-frond colored lining, this is a bag destined to take you to hippie heaven. Black wood beads cover the natural netted body, while a magnetic snap closure makes it possible to keep your valuables safe and sound. It’s low-key and luxurious...simply perfect for a sandy adventure!

SHOPINTUITION "Bathing Beauty Beach Bag" Being a bathing beauty can be such a difficult task; especially when you’re competing not only with fellow bikini-donning beach dwellers, but the casual yet covetable Bathing Beauty Beach Bag, as well. The teasing terry cloth turquoise tote, embellished with sassy embroidery proclaiming the words Bathing Beauty, and flanked with a teeny pink bikini is eyecatching and essential for all of your seaside shenanigans; of course, it also doubles as a hot hobo for those casual trips to romantic resort towns. The waterproof lining makes it simple to store your wet suit; but the true beauty of this Bathing Beauty Beach Bag? The outer zip pocket made of plastic. No more worries about your shimmery sunscreen staining your glossies, as you can keep it separate in this convenient little pocket. Beautiful. Organizational. Yum!

Ready to get beachy, girls?

Fashionably yours!

Lampin' It Up

The Hamptons: A luxurious east coast summer hideaway frequented by the elite.
Lampin’: A term coined by Kanye West to describe the unproductive moments that plague us when we’re in the throes of relaxing and chilling out – “Said she’s just lampin’, chillin’ on campus.”

Mix the two terms together and you have The Lamptons Hoody – a tres chic piece by East Hampton’s Blue&Cream, a shop that specializes in creating comfort by combining urban style with the ritz, glitz, and glamour of the quaint locale.

Now, it is not like me to get entirely worked up over a sweatshirt or, in this case, hoodie; but I have been utterly obsessed with The Hamptons since I was nothing more than a knee-high tot toddling along in tutus and tap shoes. So at the sight of this Lamptons Hoody, I could do nothing more than gape at all of its comfy, cozy, and oh-so adorable glory.

The Lamptons adds an urban flavor to the quaint seaside resort town that is often viewed as being pompous, pretentious, and posh. It blackens a pristine white wall found inside one of the sprawling mansions. It sprouts gold spots and wild weeds within the perfectly lush green grasses that grow along the outskirts of the castle-like residences which receive the same tender, love, and care as a bawling infant. It serves as the object behind the corroding, rotting, peeling, and discoloration that overwhelms the pretty white picket fences standing primly in front of each immaculately kept front porch. But, better yet, it adds a sense of street style to your wardrobe that you would be unable to achieve with any other piece of its kind.

My current cravings include the subtle grey and sophisticated black – two colors that will work well with anything in my wardrobe; though I would be more than willing to take the purple, pink, blue, red, or green offerings home if given the opportunity.

This is my chance to get in touch with the Hamptons-dwelling honey hiding deep within my soul. A single occasion created just for those unproductive moments I long for; when I can be the chick chilling in the background while everyone else is catering to their inner worker-bee. All I need is a Lamptons Hoody, and yes, I’ll be lampin’ it up with the best of them!

Fashionably yours!
