nails inc. alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Mini Nail Set Swatches + Review

alice + olivia is virtually one of my Top 5 all-time favorite lines, so when I learned that alice + olivia's Stacy Bendet was collaborating with nails inc. on a Limited Edition Fall Nail Polish Collection I had to have it. Enter the alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Mini Nail Set. Ladies, I am wild for this quartet, and pretty confident that it will remain my favorite for Fall 2015. The colors here are exclusive to this set, but four additional full-size shades have been released, which you can buy separately {all deets at the bottom of this post}. For now, lets focus on these mini beauties!

Gold Goddess is a Gold, Full-Coverage Chunky Glitter in a Blackened Green Base. Dead. Seriously ladies, this color is brilliant. Out of all of the gold shades I have tried over the years, nothing comes close to this. What truly sets Gold Goddess apart is the blackened green base which creates a burnished, antique metal look that is so one-of-a-kind. I just can't... Hands down one of my new favorite shades ever. Bonus: The formula is just incredible - your nails practically paint themselves with the ease of this one! Even better: Removal process is identical to that of a creme - no foil method necessary! This is 2 coats.

Ruby Night Sky is a Blackened Plum Creme. This shade is all sorts of misleading yet a fave of mine nonetheless. The name leads you to believe it's a ruby red shade. Wrong. The bottle would have you thinking it's a dark purple with purple/red microshimmer. Also wrong. On the nail, Ruby Night Sky is basically a hyper-shiny, so-dark-purple-it's-black creme that is ridiculously decadent and something you never want to take off. Microshimmer? It didn't show up for me; but I'm obsessed, and will definitely be donning this one quite a bit come fall. Loved the formula here. Most dark polishes are notorious for flooding the cuticles, but this one didn't. Woot! This is 2 coats.

Paris Rouge is a Blackened Wine Red with Shimmer. Isn't she lovely. Isn't she wonderful. Ermahgerd you guys this color! I have legit been swooning since applying coat one! Breathe, breathe...okay. In one sentence: Paris Rouge is brilliant to the tenth power. The lit from within glow, which gives the appearance of brightness in the middle and vampy goodness around the edges is so luxe and sophisticated, don't you think? Formula was divine. This was truly one of the easiest polishes I have ever worked with - quickly building opacity, keeping its distance from cuticles, and having the perfect consistency. Let's just say that this polish sets the standard for all future wine reds I pick up. Love! This is 2 coats.

Next To Nothing is a Nude Creme. Truth: I would have preferred another fall-apropos shade in the place of a nude creme; but, I actually really like this shade because it's kind of my perfect nude. The pink undertone of Next To Nothing is what keeps it from falling into creepy mannequin hands territory, adding a bit of a cafe au lait tone to the shade that will be perfect come winter. Formula here was flawless - the color is smooth and rich, building opacity beautifully. This is 2 coats.

AVAILABILITY: Sephora or Net-A-Porter for the mini set; Sephora for individual, full-size bottles {of different shades in the collab collection}.

PRICE: $25.00 for the quartet; or buy individual bottles separately for $15.00 each.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Terra-Coppa

Two coats of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Terra-Coppa. Earthy Metallic Copper with Silver and Red Microglitter.

Game ovah! Ladies, I have officially found the best metallic polish ever, and this. is. it.

Terra-Coppa is one of those perfect transitional shades. It has that bronze-y sunkissed look that screams summer; yet retains a warmth that feels fresh for fall {clearly the result of the red microglitter within}.

The formula here is incredible. It's thick and rich - almost achieving full opacity in one-coat; plus the wide brush gives your nail complete coverage with one swipe.

This right here is an essential. Trust.

What nail color are you rocking for #ManicureMonday?

links à la mode: the IFB weekly roundup {august 13, 2015 edition}

Desktop-001

Many of you are still traveling and showing how travel boosts your creative pulse. Another, embarked on a tour of a fashion golden age. However, what most of the IFB bloggers were talking about this week was beauty… whether at home or in the salon. The delight of treating oneself to a high-end salon blow out, pampering your skin and follicles with facial masks and hair color, and everyday beauty tricks like strobing or updating your look with the newest nail color.

I just love how this community shares their insight on blogging; from photography and increasing followers to creating a blogging collective.

We also had a couple good entertainment reviews. One of the spoof variety and one of the deep-cuts fashion icon variety. I’ll let you decide which is which.

And for those of you no longer traveling, but heading back to the office, move straight to the posts on how to liven up your cubicle style.

Everybody Rise + $50 BaubleBar Gift Card Giveaway!

Looking for a chic read in the vein of The Devil Wears Prada? The search is over! I've got you covered with the release of Stephanie Clifford's debut Everybody Rise. Featured in Time Magazine's Summer Reading, selected as one of People Magazine's Summer's Best Books, and included on Good Housekeeping's Beach Reads feature and Entertainment Weekly's Summer Must List, Everybody Rise is the current IT Book on the scene - and now it can be yours!

ABOUT THE BOOK: It's 2006 in the Manhattan of the young and glamorous. Money and class are colliding in a city that is about to go over a financial precipice and take much of the country with it. At 26, bright, funny and socially anxious Evelyn Beegan is determined to carve her own path in life and free herself from the influence of her social-climbing mother, who propelled her through prep school and onto the Upper East Side. Evelyn has long felt like an outsider to her privileged peers, but when she gets a job at a social network aimed at the elite, she's forced to embrace them.

Recruiting new members for the site, Evelyn steps into a promised land of Adirondack camps, Newport cottages and Southampton clubs thick with socialites and Wall Streeters. Despite herself, Evelyn finds the lure of belonging intoxicating, and starts trying to pass as old money herself. When her father, a crusading class-action lawyer, is indicted for bribery, Evelyn must contend with her own family's downfall as she keeps up appearances in her new life, grasping with increasing desperation as the ground underneath her begins to give way.

Bracing, hilarious and often poignant, Stephanie Clifford's debut offers a thoroughly modern take on classic American themes - money, ambition, family, friendship - and on the universal longing to fit in.

Sounds fab, right?!

To celebrate the release of this must-read addition to the literary world, cat eyes & skinny jeans has partnered with St. Martin's Press to bring one {1} reader an Everybody Rise Prize Pack that includes: a $50 BaubleBar Gift Card, and a Copy of the book Everybody Rise {in stores August 18th}. Essie Fall 4PC Mini Set Swatches + Review

Summer 2015 has been all about the brights for me in terms of nail polish, so when I spotted the
Essie Fall 4 PP Mini Nail Polish Set at Ulta it was very much a hooray! moment for me because, honestly, I'm kind of bored with brights at the moment, and totally ready to welcome dark, vampy hues into my polish repertoire again. The fact that this collection is inspired by the film Almost Famous, groupies a la Penny Lane, and the whole 70s with the band era? Icing on the cake.

Leggy Legend is a Metallic Copper-Meets-Bronze. I'm not typically a fan of metallics, but I just had to spot this color once to know that I needed this quartet solely for this shade. Truth. Leggy Legend is a little bit bronze, a little bit copper, and a whole lot of fall fabulousness in a bottle. I'm seriously in love. Formula was flawless. Rich, creamy, no brushstrokes, fast-dry, and a OCW. You need this one. This is 1 coat.

With The Band is a Burnt Sienna Creme. Why yes, my description of this color did come from a Crayola Crayon - Burnt Sienna to be exact. You guys, this color is a-ma-zing. It's not red, it's not brown, it's not orange, but a gorgeous conglomerate of all three! It's very brick-meets-rust in color - so so perfect for that 70s throwback! The formula was a little testy for me. Yes, it was a OCW, but I found it to be thick - not to mention that it constantly gravitated to my cuticles. Still a beautiful color. Warning: This one stains. This is 1 coat.

Frock 'N Roll is an Espresso Creme with Silver Glass-Fleck Shimmer. Frock 'N Roll was quite the surprise for me. In the bottle it looks like a charcoal gray creme with silver shimmer, but that definitely doesn't translate to the nail. In certain light you can see a subtle flash of silver particles, but in direct sunlight this looks like an espresso satin - which, in itself, is downright divine, but different than I expected. The formula was good - it seemed a bit obsessed with my cuticles in the beginning; but behaved in the end. This is 1 coat.

In The Lobby is a Black Cherry Creme. YAAASSS! This is exactly the type of color I l-o l-o l-o l-o-v-e during the fall / winter months {despite the fact that they make me look hella-pale}. In The Lobby is per-fec-tion. The color is hyper-pigmented by coat two, but looks patchy with a single coat. I found the formula here to be thick, but v. buildable and easy to work with. This is 2 coats.

AVAILABILITY: Ulta for the mini set; Ulta for individual bottles.

PRICE: $17.00 for the quartet; or buy individual bottles separately for $8.50 each.

NOTD: Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Three coats of Deborah Lippmann in Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Coral Crelly.

I got this color in the Sephora Favorites Meet Your Match boxed set, and was ho-hum about its inclusion {I'm kind of coral-ed out at the mo}; but I actually love this color - as in going to the chapel... kind of l-o-v-e.

What sets Girls Just Want to Have Fun apart from fellow corals is the finish - the creme + jelly hybrid leaves behind a squishy, uber-shiny glaze that is pure yum! The formula was a-ma-zing. I would have liked it to reach opacity quicker; but I can't complain, as it was fast-dry and a total breeze to work with!

China Glaze Baby Beats Micro Mini Set Swatches + Review

Brights have been my jam as of late, so I couldn't resist adding China Glaze's Baby Beats Micro Mini Set to my cart during my last Ulta stock-up. The Electric Nights theme is spot on for summer, and the colors + formulas? Let's just say, they're not too shabby. In fact, I'm kind of obsessed.

Glow With The Flow is a Bright Neon Pink Creme. Search. Ovah. This right here is officially my new all-time favorite pink. When I first picked up this collection I was thinking gah! another pink? - and then it wound up being my favorite in the set. Glow With The Flow is essential if you dig Barbie pinks. Formula here was fantastic - it flows beautifully onto the nail with little muss or fuss. This is 3 coats.

Treble Maker is a Neon Green Creme. Are you dying over this one? I am! I lovelovelove this color - it's playful and fun, not to mention completely unique {I have never owned a shade like this before}. The formula was flawless here - the only downfall: it stains. This is 3 coats.

DJ Blue My Mind is a Bold, Bright Neon Blue Crelly. OMG this color! You all know I've been going through a blue period in terms of nail polish; thus, DJ Blue My Mind is giving me all sorts of feels right now. The formula is lush and creamy; and the color itself? Totes gets the party started! Downfall? It stains. Le sigh. This is 2 coats.

Violet-Vibes is a Neon Red-Toned Purple Satin. Violet-Vibes is gorgeous to look at, and works perfectly as a summer-to-fall transition color due to the red undertones. Without top coat, this one dries to a {stunning} satin finish. Again, the formula was great here; however, I did experience a bit of staining. This is 3 coats.

Daisy Know My Name? is a Neon Yellow Creme. Daisy Know My Name? is about a billion times brighter IRL than it reflects in pictures - think highlighter yellow. For a yellow shade, I found the formula to be so-so here - it was pigmented and rich, as opposed to sheer {like many yellow nail colors fall victim to}; however, it was a bit streaky and patchy. This is 3 coats.

Red-y To Rave is a Neon Orange / Red Creme. Red-y To Rave was the most difficult shade in this collection to photograph, but also one of my personal faves. The color is insanely bright in that traffic cone kind of way. Loved the formula here - it was fluid, non-clumping, and beautifully pigmented. This is 3 coats.

AVAILABILITY: ULTA.

PRICE: $14.95 for the 6-Piece Mini Kit; or $7.50 per full-size bottle.

august crush list!

august 2015
1. cheeky sweatshirts Wildfox is queen when it comes to cheeky sweatshirts with flirty phrases or thoughts on life; thus, I had to snag the 'More Than Pizza' V-Neck Pullover Sweatshirt, and 'If At First You Don't Succeed' Long Sleeve Pullover when I spotted them at the Nordstrom Annual Sale. They'll look amaze paired with skinnies and ankle boots come fall, don't you think?

2. essie fall I still love my brights, but I am more than ready to add dark, vampy nail colors into my polish repertoire once again - first up, the Essie Fall 2015 collection. It's inspired by the film Almost Famous, and features 6 epic shades with seriously legendary names. My top picks? Leggy Legend, In the Lobby, and Frock N Roll. Swooning yet?

3. smoky shadows I love a smoky eye look anytime of day or night, but I get hyper obsessed once the weather starts to cool down as smoky shadows feel fully apropos for fall weather {and pair perfectly with oversized sweaters and boots}. Typically I reach for my Too Faced Natural At Night Palette, but this year I'm wanting to get my hands on Urban Decay's Naked Smoky {you can never go wrong with UD}, Sephora Collection's Colorful 5 Eyeshadow Palette in N°01 Uptown To Downtown Smoky {love the mix of colors}, or e.l.f.'s Studio Everyday Smoky Eyeshadow Palette {amazing pricepoint!}. So incredibly chic, yes?

4. slouchy bags Last year I was all about the structured crossbody, but this year I'm coveting slouchy, hobo-esque bags - specifically Rebecca Minkoff's Moto Hobo in Black {the subtle biker babe vibe is amaze}, and She + Lo's Next Chapter Hobo in Black / White {obsessed with the black and white acid wash!}.

NOTD: China Glaze Too Yacht to Handle

Three coats of China Glaze in Too Yacht to Handle. Blue-Meets-Turquoise Creme.

I have a serious obsession with shades like this - especially during the summertime. They just feel so apropos for warmer weather, and will definitely serve as a fan favorite if you love mints.

Despite the fact that this color looks super saturated, it does require a bit of babysitting to build it up to that intensity - in other words, the formula is thin, so it applies a bit patchy. Regardless, I still found it to be v. simple to work with as it never tries to mingle with your cuticles. This one's a keeper {I may even wear it in the winter}!

cotton candy frames {firmoo glasses review}

My contact lenses get a lot of play in my life, but when I'm chilling at home watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix, they're the last thing I want to be wearing. Loungewear was invented for relaxing, and glasses totally fit that laid-back vibe - as long as they are C-U-T-E.

In general I opt for neutral-toned frames because they're sensible and go with everything, but when Firmoo offered me a free pair for review a few weeks back, I thought I'd take a walk on the colorful side, and grab something a little different: the #DBSN65078 in Blue

Don't you just love that subtle ombre effect? It's so very {Heathers, much?}.

Ladies, I love these! They are virtually weightless, and they perch perfectly on the bridge of the nose, so you don't have to keep pushing them up Urkel style. Even better is the fact that they match the majority of my loungewear and PJs, so I feel uber fashion forward even when I'm just hanging with the ladies of Rosewood trying to figure out who A is.

I highly recommend these beauties if you're seeking a frame that's equal parts playful and flirty!
