Wet Paint Nails Nail Glaze System {Swatches + Review}

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Wet Paint Nails to try out their completely awesome and revolutionary Nail Glaze System, which basically allows you to create your own nail colors using their 3-step method {Base, Top Coat Glaze, and SPFX Coat}.

I was provided with 9 shades {4 base colors, 3 top coat glazes, and 2 SPFX coats}. Here are the combinations I created using the provided shades {see my complete review of the system after the swatches}.

1 Coat of Call the Chauffeur {Base} + 1 Coat of Willful Top Coat Glaze + 3 Coats of Caramel Breeze {SPFX}

PROS:

• The Base Colors are super smooth and easy to work with. On all 4 that I tried, they were opaque in one coat.

• You can try all color combos on virtually using the Wet Paint Nails Try It On App before actually applying the colors to your nails - so you know what type of results you will wind up with.

• The Caramel Breeze SPFX is literally one of the coolest things ever - the holographic edge it adds to just about any polish color is A-MA-ZING.

CONS:

• I had severe bubbling issues with the Moonstone SPFX. Within 30 minutes of applying it, the polish would completely bubble up, making the manicure look unattractive.

• I found that, once applied, the Moonstone SPFX made any nail color combination look seemingly identical and /or fairly similar. I didn't encounter this with the Caramel Breeze SPFX.

• One coat of the SPFX did not make a huge difference on the nail; to really see an interesting effect, you had to apply 2 or 3 coats, which can be tedious work.

• On me, I felt that the Moonstone SPFX never completely dried. It would dent mid-day, and just felt too thick on my nail.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I love the concept of this system {especially in the first combination shown here}; however, I found it a bit time-consuming, what with all of the different layers. If you're someone who wants a fast and fab mani, I wouldn't really recommend this to you; but if you're a polish connoisseur who loves having something totally unique on your nails, you will love this. I do highly recommend the Wet Paint Nails Base Coats, as they are fantastically consistent in all of their one-coat glory - and come in so many gorgeous shades.

Bag Spotting: Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Mini Affair

Truth: I own a pair of shoes for every imaginable situation, but my closet is literally devoid of any type of going-out bag {be it for coffee, date night, or simply a night out with the ladies}.

Apparently, a cute carryall escaped my attentions while I was trying on boots at Nordstrom {story of my life}; a realization I came to this past weekend when, lo and behold, I was in dire need of one, and wound up having to choose between the Hobo Bag in Wine, the Hobo Bag in Black, or...the Hobo Bag in Denim {you see my problem here?}.

P.S. I opted for the Hobo Bag in Black; but came home and immediately began a search for a pretty {yet petite} purse to accompany me on future outings. Enter the Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Mini Affair {even the name is adorbs, yes?}.

As someone who bounces between styles {sometimes boho, others classic / equestrian, and occasionally totally girly}, I love the adaptability of the Quilted Mini Affair - seamlessly looking just as amazing with a sheer shirt and skinnies as it does with an LBD or cuffed boyfriend jeans and a flirty tank.

Similar in size to the Chanel 2.55 {every girl's dream bag, am I right?}; the quilted aesthetic and chain strap are seriously luxe. And the fact that you can wear it shoulder style or crossbody? Total perk.

If you caught so much as a glimpse of Britney Spears' I'm A Slave 4 U MTV VMA performance {circa 2001} you are fully aware that snakes. are. sexy. Nothing says sassy like an arm cuff - especially in this Cleopatra-approved shape. I'm loving the Natalie B Snake Coil Armband Bracelet in both Silver {similar} and Gold {similar}. NOTD: Sally Hansen Perfect Pear-ing

Two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Hard As Nails in Perfect Pear-ing from the Summer 2013 Beach Brights Limited Edition Collection. Bright, Neon-Leaning Honeydew Melon Green.

You all know about my bordering on obsession love for mint green polishes; so, of course I couldn't resist picking this one up when I saw it sitting by its lonesome on the store shelf. Though mint-esque; Perfect Pear-ing is actually a beautifully bright honeydew melon green that leans towards the neon spectrum of polishes {always a must for summer}.

The formula was a little strange for me, in that the first coat was thin and runny; while the second coat was thick and gloppy {weird, I know}. I blame myself for this oddity, however, because the polish did sit in a hot car for a few hours and probably could have benefitted from being refrigerated for awhile before use. Regardless, I found that it was, overall, easy to work with. I only wish that they would make this shade a part of the Sally Hansen permanent collection, as it is truly too pretty to be relegated to the Limited Edition / hard-to-find shelf.

I usually contour my eyes with varying shadow shades; but I love the simplicity of a one-swipe system {i.e. one swipe of shadow from lashline to brow, followed by a swipe of lower-liner from outer corner to inner, followed by a swipe of mascara} - especially in glistening metallics and lush jewel tones. It's a look that has been seen on Charlotte Free in the Maybelline Pure Pigments adverts {above}, as well as the Nina Agdal for bebe fall 2013 campaign {both using bold gold shadow + purple liner}; and is super stunning for high-drama Girls' Night Out looks, but can also be adapted for the daytime hours {I myself have worn it for early-morning shopping dates}. If you don't like a lot of fuss when it comes to makeup, you can't go wrong with MAKE UP FOR EVER Eyeshadow in Yellow Gold 10. It's crease resistant, so it looks just as fab at the end of the day as it did when you first applied. Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Loose Powder in Wild Gold is a must if you want hyper-pigmentation on a budget. Loose Powder is not something you frequently see in a drugstore brand; but it is a great addition to makeup drawers, as it is buildable and very easy to blend. Lancôme Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow Smooth Hold in 24 Karat is the epitome of luxe, and worth every penny. The shimmer effect is intense {but not so much so that you can't wear it to the office}; and the texture is like velvet. Definitely one of those obsession-worthy products.

If you prefer shadow sticks, NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Corcovado is basically an essential. It's creamy, and brightens up your eyes in a total OMG way. One of my new loves, however, is COVERGIRL Flamed Out Eye Shadow Pencil in Gold Flame 330. The gel-like formulation is soft and creamy; and there's a cooling effect when applied that feels amazing. It doesn't hurt that it's insanely affordable either.

Urban Decay Vintage 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils are like the holy grail of eyeliners because they never fade and go on super smoothly. Ransom is the perfect color for recreating this liner look as it is a bright iridescent purple that will fully complement the bold gold shadow. If you don't have a steady hand when applying pen/wand-style liners, Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Loose Powder in Potent Purple is a great solution for nailing your liner look - simply apply it with an eyeliner brush, which gives you a bit more control. My personal obsession is the NYX Slide On Eye Liner Pencil in Purple Blaze. I own these in about 15 colors, and cannot rave about them enough. The pigmentation is so amazing; and they never flake or fade {even if you, like me, wear them for 12+ hours a day}.

Double-duty beauty is always a nice feature; so if you want a liner that can work overtime as a shadow, RIMMEL ScandalEyes Eye Shadow Stick in Paranoid Purple is fab. Use it as a liner one night, and create a smoky purple eye the next. Like the Maybelline Loose Powder, Mineral Essence Liner Shadow in Purple Nebula is an easy choice if applying liner isn't your forte. This one also has silver undertones / particles, so if you love an extra kick of shimmer, you'll adore it.

One coat of Milani Nail Lacquer in Beach Front. Sky / Robin's Egg Blue with Silver / Pale Blue Shimmer throughout.

I love a pale-yet-bright blue for spring / summer, and Beach Front completely fits the bill - with the added bonus of shimmer {which I wish were more visible in these swatches, but the sun was being uncooperative that day - le sigh}.

The shimmer in Beach Front is what sets this color apart - it's like little glassflecks that make the shade richer, and more dimensional. The second thing that makes Beach Front stand out? The formula. Smooth, buttery, and incredibly easy to work with. If you're a blue polish fan you need this one in your stash!

that you totally need to try for yourself. Trust.

{1} Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube - Original {$20.00} I apply this from upper lashline to eyebrow. It's fast-drying {so you can start applying liner and shadow within seconds}; sheer nude in color {so it works with all skintones}; and keeps my eyeshadow intact for 12+ hours. I honestly don't think I could survive without this product.

{2} L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Fairest Nude {$8.95} If you, like me, love nude lipstick, this is total bang for your buck. It's a pinky beige shade that doesn't give you that dead-girl-walking / chalky look; and is ridiculously moisturizing, hydrating, and creamy. Also pertinent...the L'Oreal imprint on the actual lipstick is so. luxe.

{3} Hard Candy Glamazon Glow All the Way Face & Body Luminizer in Bronze 318 {8.00} If you love a sunkissed glow all over your body {without having to slather yourself in self-tanner}, this is a must. Mix just a tiny bit with whatever product you want {lotion, highlighter, sunscreen...}, and rub it on to make your skin radiant. NOTE: There are shimmer particles in this; but they are not overly sparkly - just subtle and glamorously glowy.

{4} Nicole Richie 'Nicole' Eau de Parfum 3.4 oz. {$69.00} This is one of those fragrances that makes you feel feminine and works for all occasions - day or night. It perfectly balances sensuality, sophistication, and sweetness using a beautiful blend of vanilla, florals {Moroccan rose, lily of the valley}, and hints of fruit {blackberry, orange}. I especially love the traces of sandalwood and cashmere wood - they are so completely intoxicating - without being overpowering.

{5} mark Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette {$16.00} Don't let the candy colors deceive you; this is one of the most brilliant face palettes ever. Whether you use this all-over your face {like me}, or simply try it on your lips, lids, or cheekbones, you will be left with the most beautiful, just-kissed glow. What I love is how adaptable this palette is to all skintones and types - literally anyone can use it for a pinch of pretty.

Last week I tucked these beauties in my carryall when I headed for LA. At 3" the heel seemed perfectly apropos for wining, dining, and shopping...and I couldn't have been more right.

They kept me completely comfy while rifling through racks of vintage Teddy Bear Coats seemingly ripped from Margot Tenenbaum or Penny Lane's personal wardrobe at the Rose Bowl Flea Market; while playing the part of chic sophisticate for a late-night dinner {I paired them with black tights and a sequin mini}.

The leather strap detailing is the perfect luxe counterpoint to the urbane vibe of the suede construction. Even better? The midnight black hue makes me look leggy {especially when coupled with an all-black ensemble}; and for a girl who teeters just a smidge above the 5'1 mark, that. is. everything.

Walking in LA? Totally doable in these babies. I may just need to add the Mushroom / Black and Tan to my bootie collection next.

Lancôme always delivers the glam, and the Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Bronze Amour is no different. The colors are bold, the finishes silky, and the overall color combos essential for creating a neutral smoky eye. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Silk Eyeshadow in #15 Copper / Black Grey is a must if you're short on time - one swipe is all you need for killer eyes.

My favorite of the bunch {and one of the most affordable options} is Kat Von D Shade Shifter Eyeshadow in Devotion, which subtly shifts color {very chameleon-like} whenever you blink or turn your head. When it comes to makeup, I love baked anything - including this Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta {also available at Beautique UK}. Apply it wet for high drama; and skip the primer if you want - this one never creases or fades. For affordability that still packs punch, you can't go wrong with Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow in Copper Chic. It's under $10, and serves up velvety textures and high pigmentation.

NOTD: nails inc. Leather Effects in Noho

Oh. My. Gooooosh. Ladies, I am so in love right now. Black polish + my vampire white skin? Usually not a combo I love, but the texture {who can resist leather anything?} of this drew me in and all I can say is...well, I'm speechless.

This is officially my favorite of the textured polishes out right now because it is so rebellious and glam. The two coats needed are completely fast-drying, and leave just a subtle hint of shine behind {it is mostly matte}. I wore this for days without chips {despite the fact that I wasn't wearing top coat} and it looked gorgeous throughout. Also pertinent...this one was super easy to remove, and left behind no staining. If you haven't tried a textured polish but want to, this one comes highly, highly recommended.

For the record, the nails inc. Leather Effect Leather Polish creates more of a crackled leather effect, as opposed to a smooth leather {and that's totally fine with me}; and can also be purchased in the Bling It On Kit in Rebel if you want 3D Crystal Skull embellishments. choose your chic...

When it comes to choosing sunnies, for me it's a no-brainer. Designer {I will forever dig YSL and Oliver Peoples} and Oversized {perfect for concealing tired eyes lacking makeup}. Shopping for regular eyeglasses, on the other hand...epic. fail. I've yet to find a frame that suits my face {or style tastes}; so when I'm sans contacts I'm basically stumbling around {in heels!} relying on the shadowy outlines of people, places, and things to find my way. I feel a change coming on, however, since spotting these uber-chic Dolce & Gabbana styles.

The former are perfect for sophisticated tête-à-têtes when you want to project flirtiness laced with professionalism {very grown-up and office apropos}; the latter ideal for adding a youthful-meets-playful kick to everything from pencil skirts and pumps to skinny denim and hoodies. All of the above? Completely necessary additions to my barren eyeglasses collection. Now I just need to settle on a few new styles from YSL, and I'll be good. to. go.

Over the years the cocktail ring collection that I spent what felt like an eternity amassing has been replaced by a trio of dainty, delicate rings that seemingly never leave my fingers. Spotting the Glass Rings at TheJewelleryPeople.com, however, has reminded me just why I adored the oversized style so much to begin with - their ability to seamlessly transition from fashion statement to a piece of wearable art.

Just imagine how incredibly glam these would look paired with a killer mani or monochromatic ensemble {I'm thinking white or black}. Insanely chic, right?

The colors used are very Andy Warhol {love}; while the haphazard mix of hues reminds me a bit of a Jackson Pollock drip painting {again, love}. Most definitely wearable art. Who's crushing with me, babes?

Though I love drugstore makeup brands {especially of the nail polish variety}; when it comes to certain items, like eyeshadow and the occasional lipstick, I tend to go for the pro {Urban Decay, NARS, Tmart professional makeup}, for the sheer fact that I love how long-lasting it is - as well as the luxe feel of the packaging.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in Cotton Candies

Two coats of Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Special Effect Textured Nail Color in Cotton Candies. Bright Pink.

I am always on the hunt for a pretty pink polish so the fact that Cotton Candies was a texture shade was just icing on the cake. I have only tried a few Textured Polishes so far, but this one remains one of my favorites because it is so fast-drying, long-lasting, and fun to look at.

On the nail, the Sugar Coat effect dries in a fashion reminiscent of wall spackle {and feels a bit like it too}. Application was, like with the Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Peach Fuzz I swatched a couple of weeks ago, absolutely amazing. Two coats is all you need to reach full opacity; and top coat is not needed {I didn't use it for these swatches either}, as it will diminish the textured effect.

One thing to note is that textured manis seem to have a longer, chip-free lifespan than your standard glossy manicure. From my experience, they are more durable {especially if you do a lot of cooking or texting}. Just my two cents...
