Cozy Up to Shopbop and UGG Boots Giveaway

ugg boots

Attention kitty cats!

Are you a fan of cozy Ugg boots? Because if you are, today may be your lucky chance to get a pair! We’re giving out a $100 Shopbop.com instant gift card to the commenter who leaves the most creative response to this question: which pair of Ugg boots from Shopbop.com is your favorite, and why? Tell us where you would wear them and how you'd put together the rest of your ensemble. The most fashion-inspiring comment wins - so get creative!

What are Ugg boots?

It seems like you see them every day, but how did they get their start? Did you know the term "ugg" or "ug" actually predates the Ugg Australia brand as a generic term for this style of Australian-made sheepskin boots? This type of boot has been around ever since people started raising sheep. Ranchers and farmers used to put every part of the sheep to use, making clothing and, you guessed it, uggs. The cozy wardrobe essentials we know and love today are a form of unisex--that's right, unisex!--boots made of Grade A sheepskin with soft, fleece lining on the inside. Ugg Australia boots are all about accessible luxury. Ugg boots are so cozy they actually feel more like slippers than shoes; they are the epitome of comfortable footwear. "Ugg" wearers include a diverse crowd: everyone from sheep shearers and war pilots, to surfers and celebrities.

How did Ugg boots become so popular?

Uggs were worn by WWI and WWII aviators for long, high altitude flights. In this case, uggs were called "fuggs" for flying uggs. But the Ugg trend didn't officially start until 1978 when Brian Smith, an Australian surfer, came to the U.S. with a bag full of sheepskin boots and introduced them to surfers on the U.S. west coast; Californian surfers started using Ugg boots to keep warm when they got out of the water.

But Ugg boots really came into the spotlight in 2000 when Oprah purchased 350 for her staff and featured the cozy boots on her "Oprah's Favorite Things" show. Soon after, other celebrities, such as Jessica Simpson and Kate Hudson, donned Ugg boots followed suit. Ugg boots have continued in popularity ever since.

How would you wear your Ugg boots?

It's interesting to consider the history of Ugg boots, but let's face it. What really matters today is how you would wear your pair! Because if you win this giveaway, you’ll get a $100 Shopbop.com instant gift card so you can start shopping immediately and give your feet a rest. Will you don your Uggs in front of a cozy fire come New Year's Eve? Pair them with a pretty pullover on New Year's Day? Just tell us which pair of Ugg boots is your favorite, and how you’d wear them. The most creative, fashion-forward comment wins!

Great giveaway!

I would definitely go for the Ultra Short Boots from shopbop.com.

They're great as they come in 3 different colours, can be worn with ANYTHING and with the snow and ice in the UK at the moment, the great grip on the bottom would mean no more slipping over on my way to work!

Alot of people think Uggs are just for Winter, but they are also great in Spring and Summer! The short boots would look great with little floral summer dresses and tights but for now I would team them with a chunky knit cardigan and some skinny jeans tucked in! Cosy.

I would wear them everywhere!

These fabulous and cosy boots are incredibly versatile, so the outfit options are limitless! My favorite pairing would be with my ink wash J Brand skinnies, a semi-sheer floral chiffon blouse, and a faux fur gilet. So Aspen chic! I would wear them for an afternoon of shopping in New York City, or a little après ski in Lake Tahoe.
Thanks so much for this incredible opportunity, and for your fantastic blogging throughout 2009.
Happy New Year’s Eve, darling Erika, and best wishes for 2010!

I like the Classic Tall in Grey (second choice would be Chocolate.)

These boots are not just comfy but WARM - which is always a consideration during a Canadian winter. I also can't count how many pant legs my Uggs have saved - best way to keep your pants from dragging on the snow covered group is tucking them into your Uggs!

Love your blog - I'm a follower!

Finally a creative giveaway! My pick would be the Tall Elsey Wedge boot. They are stylish, make you look taller (very important to me) and you can get away with wearing them just about anywhere without looking dowdy. I would wear them to work, for walks with the dog and hanging out in coffee shops and brunch locales - I never get clothes or shoes that don't mesh with the rest of my wardrobe and can't be used for most of my day-to-day activities. However, since the boot is pretty casual, I would probably not dress them up too much. Skinny jeans, a nautical black & white jersey tee with bell sleeves and a vintage Hermes scarf would be my choice. Add a shearling coat and some gold bangles and I'm all set!

Have a fabulous NYE! xoxox

I always like UGG boots but it is never cold enough to wear it here. Nonetheless I would like to own one of these darlings. I like Lo Pro Boots with Drawstrin. It's something different, with the drawstring. The colour goes well with jeggings, skinny jeans and anything under the sun. The best part of it, it gives me an excuse to visit countries that have four seasons!

Helllllo Miss Cafe Fashionista. I'm going to give this giveaway a go as I'm OBSESSED with Uggs. First off, I tweeted you (@caitielady08) AND I follow you! So I would have to say I would choose: UGG Australia
Elsey Tall Wedge Boots. Why? Because my 3 pairs of Uggs I already have are all more utilitarian. Lord knows I love them but they are more daywear and not fancy wear as they are worn with no heel. I would LOVE to have a pair of Uggs that are as warm as usual WITH A WEDGE HEEL. Ohhh, how my heart swoons for this! I would definitely wear them in Black, with Jeggings tucked in (jean leggings, as I'm sure you know) and an oversize cape jacket with elbow length gloves and a beret. Where would I wear this? Oh, as I jetset off to Aspen or Park City, Utah (here's hoping) ready to walk the streets of those beautiful, cold cities and feeling cozy head to toe while also looking fashionable. That is my dream!!!

Hey Erika,
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment to my last post ... this is a pretty special community we belong to.
My wish for you is an amazing 2010 ... in truth that's my wish for everyone ... I'm really looking forward to it. 2 hours to go!
Oddly enough, I think I must be one of the few women who actually don't like the look of Uggs ... although I did notice a couple of classier looking ones. Great that they have a wider variety ... didn't know that they had been around for so long ... such an informative post.
All the best Erika!

Happy New Year!! Once again, you're giving away another amazing prize. I squealed so loud seeing this. I'm also a follower :D

I'd definitely get the classic short boots. Even though I'm tall and I can wear the much longer pairs, there's something about short boots that I'm obsessed with!!! I don't own a pair of UGGS but if I ever got the chance (or the money!!) to get a pair, I'd wear them out and about in a nice wrap dress, tights, a trench!!

Joanne Faith said...

Just wanted to say happy new year! I'm a weirdo who thinks the Ugg's and short shorts look is cute. ;)

That Chelsea Girl™ said...

I would definitely have to say that the black Classic Cardy UGG Boots have taken a fancy with me. I adore texture and argyle, and the buttons add a nice touch. Because of the texture of the boot, I would definitely showcase the boots and use that texture as a theme in my outfit--either pairing the boots with a knit sweater dress (I'm thinking burgandy) with gray tights, or tucked into a pair of skinny 7AM Jeans with a knit-sweater with a white wifebeater tank underneath. They would go great with my Christmas sweater I wore to my friend's annual ugly sweater party as well! Happy new year!

The Elsey Tall Wedge Boots for me... in black of course. I'll wear it with my mini skirts, my shorts, my jeans, my dresses, with everything. And I don't care if the fashion police says NO to Ugg boots... it's a classic and I love 'em.

I am already a follower Erika via Google Reader.

ok, I was going to go for the Elsey tall wedge boot because they are extra cute and functional boots. However, once I saw the sweater knitt slip I was sold. My feet are always cold at home, and I feel like these could be worn inside as well as outside because of the rubber sole. At home, it would be matched with my polka dot robe and striped PJ pants!

I am a google friend. Hope I win this so bad!

What a fabulous way to celebrate my first visit! I live in a smallish Canadian town outside Vancouver. It is very much the Canadian Aspen. We do cold, but not Montreal cold. Unfortunately the only UGG boots that went through here a few years ago were the classics, and at the time I wouldn't wear anything without a heel. Weeeell, that would be the year I slipped badly on the ice and schmucked my knee. I now convulse slightly everytime I feel myself slip even a little bit in the winter. I have not been able to find a heel-less boot that could be considered smart and have been wearing glorified hiking boots... but who knew that UGG has gone so far past the classic? The knit Cardis are brilliant! I have the most amazing cashmere leggings to pair with a pair of greys, and pretty much any of my SATC tunics and some fabulous chunky poncho type sweaters. I pretty much only wear indie designers so I can't link to any pics, but I know you can get the idea. Where wouldn't I wear them? They would make going outside a much happier experience!

I hereby am a follower!

My fave Uggs are the Classic Tall boots in Sand. I sooo heart these classic boots because they go with everything. I could wear these fabu boots with shorts, jeans, skirts - whatever my heart desired. The possibilities are fashionable and endless. I think the first time I would wear these lovelies I would be in my pajamas. I would be comfy and chic as I bummed around the house, and snuggled up with my love on the sofa. The boots are totally perfect for going out or staying in. =)

I'd even wear them at home with a silky playsuit and a luxurious faux fur jacket while making my hubby some yummy hot chocolate!! Oh how fun!!

I would choose the Dakota Shearling Moccasins because they look adorable and super cosy! Plus they are $100, exactly the value of the prize. Coincidence? When they first arrived, I would wear them all around the house to keep my feet warm through the long, cold Canadian winter. However, once the snow was melted and gone and we had survived to see spring and summer again, I would take to wearing them outdoors as a compliment to any bohemian style outfit!

ps: I'm a follower.

I love the Adirondack Tall Boots because they look very waterproff, compared to the other UGGs. Also, I like the whole aviator style (1930's Howard Hughes era ). I would wear these with corduroy grey skinny jeans and a brown motocross pleather jacket over a glitter gold turtleneck sweater. It would look supercute with my aviator hat (and warm!).

Oh the UGG Elsey tall wedge boots are my favorite pair of UGG boots. They are refined practicality - stylish shoes that are useful, warm, and comfortable.

My black Elsey wedge boots would be skipping along the cobblestoned streets of London. I'd pair it with black legging jeans, a charcoal cashmere wrap cardigan, and my wool newsboy cap. I'd also wear my sequined mesh necklace for some bling and fun with my winter outfit and some bright red leather gloves for fun. This would be a perfect outfit for shopping along Oxford Street or browsing the jewelry stalls at Spitalsfield market.
I could also wear this outfit for a cozy post skiing brunch with friends in the Swiss alos. It would keep me warm and styling while I sip mulle wine and enjoy time with friends.
