What if...?

“Fairies, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the disheveled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.”

William Butler Yeats, The Land of Heart’s Desire

What if…a band of twinkling fairies kidnapped you from your bed in the middle of the night?

No sound would accompany my fairies as they make their way into my bedroom. Rather, through my half-closed eyelids I would see a dull glow lingering above me that would grow brighter. The glow, however, would not be the result of a form of light; instead, it would be made up of sparkles littering the long, colorful eyelashes of each minute pixie. As they flutter their eyelids more rapidly, large quantities of glittering, rainbow-colored sparkles would fall upon the blankets concealing my form, peeling them away from my body so that the cool night air would leave a trail of tiny goosebumps along my exposed arms. In the darkness, I would hear a single bell ring loudly, and suddenly find myself accoutered in Alice + Olivia’s Sequin Keyhole Dress.

Each of the fairies would open their mouths, mimicking a look of laughter; instead of giggles heard so often, bells would tinkle in their place, ringing over and over again and allowing me to rise higher and higher above my bed until I would hover midair and float directly out the window, and into a pink cloud which would suck me in like a vortex and spit me out upon a grassy plain covered in flowers constructed out of colorful cotton candy. I would look up, into the face of a neverending castle; my new home – for I, as I would soon learn, was to be christened Fairy Queen.

What would happen if a band of twinkling fairies kidnapped you, my loves? What would they look like? What would they make you wear? Where would they take you? You know you want to share!

Fashionably yours!

This is such a fun post. If I were to be kidnapped by fairies... Hmm they would probably come to me at night with their sparkling laughter and glittering personas. Then they would lead me from my bed (in which I'd be in a long white nightgown) and lead me towards a bright, warm light where this world would fade into fairy world. And there paradise would be awaiting!
PS I've tagged you in an award!

I love this! Mine are similar although they would have the sound of a twinkling harp when they flew. And they would look like a glowing stroke of glittering powder as if some artist had stroked the midair with whimsical beauty!

I absolutely adore fairies... these lovely creatures are such a visual delight. I hope they would require me to wear white... so that I would look like them. I want flowers on my hair too.

Happy Sunday! xoxo

what a cute post! my fairies would make me wear balmain and louboutins, and they would take me to a castle filled with beautiful clothes and shoes, where i'd have servants who helped me fix my hair before going out at night (of course there was a village nearby, with a bar). there would also, of course, be a handsome prince there, and we'd arrange dances at the castle, where i'd be able to wear the most beautiful princess-dresses...

Hey, as long as they kidnap me and bring me somewhere where I don't need a job I'm good to go!

Oh if Fairies kidnapped me they would totally make me wear Prada's new line of puffy skirts and they would take me to the French Riviera where I would stay in a beautiful castle, visit the beach and eat baguettes dipped in luscious olive oil!!

Your writing is always spectacular and captivating Erika! And that Alice + Olivia dress is so beautiful, I hope if any fairies come for me they make me wear it too!

I used to love the idea of fairies when I was younger. Particularly captivated by the Cottingley photos!

Such a whimsical post! I love the thought of twinkly fairies whisking me away to some far off tropical land, where I could laze around in Melissa Odabash swimwear and RayBan sunglasses, drinking mojitos and eating watermelon! Aaah, yes please.

The fairies would be wearing long, sparkly, pink spaghetti strap dresses. They would have long blonde hair with tiny tiaras on top of their head.

They would take me to a magical forest where everything was glittery and pure bling. They would make me wear the same thing they had on. =)

Lovely post. I'd have fairies whisk me away to a beach for a week, where I'd lie and read books in the sun. xx

i so love the print of that dress. gosh, when I was really young..i used to think fairies lived under my bed. they could hide my things and let me have them when they felt like I deserved them, but in my dreams, such happy times, flying around, of course..taking me to mysterious places. It was great when I found Holly Black's books to read.

well, if I MUST be kidnapped, it would have to be by the Victoria's Secret Models. Of course, it would take all of them to get me to go, at gunpoint. (plastic water guns :)

Hmm...I'd probably mistake them for bugs or something and kill them by covering them in tons of hairspray. lol This is why I can never be in a fairytale. I'd be the villain.

I think of my brother and I shouting at the theater during Jeremy Sumpter's Peter Pan "I believe in fairies!"

That is a really cool dress too.

This is such fun! Let's see... can my Fairy-tale land have cotton candy flowers as well? Oh, and maybe a few vanilla frosting clouds and a lollipop forest (do you think my blood sugar level needs a boost?:) And of course, a pair of glass slippers and a Prince would be waiting for me too -- wait a minute, now I just think I'm being un-original... Oh, well! It would be fun! Thanks for the day-dream excuse, Erika!
Oh, BTW, I've listed you as a Beautiful Blogger award recipient :)

My fairies would be fun and whimsical creatures, full of beauty and grace. They would take me to a kingdom far, far away where we would eat cupcakes, sip on diet coke, and gallop on a horse in the green lush hills. Aww, loved this post!
