OPI Your Way Spring 2024 Nail Lacquer 4-Piece Swatches + Review

Let me be honest about OPI's Your Way Spring 2024 Nail Lacquer Collection...I'm on the fence - and not just regarding color. Formula, shade range, staying power...I'm just not super in love. I found the colors to be a little too muted for spring {though I adored Glazed N' Amused!}; and, tbh, some of the formula was not what I was expecting. Nevertheless, some of y'all might seriously feel this quartet, so I am bringing it to you in 3, 2, 1.

gLITter is an Apricot Shimmer. Can we just take a moment to swoon over how brilliant this shade is?! gLITter is an apricot shimmer that is giving me literal life. Y'all, this shade is just so pretty - like, it has a kiss of fall to it, but it definitely embraces the spring/summer vibes. Formula was fantastic for this one - it was incredibly fast dry; and two coats was all that was needed to reach opacity. Absolutely in love with this one! This is 2 coats.

Glazed N' Amused is a Pearl Pink. If glazed donut is what you're going for, then glazed donut is what this bad boy brings to the table. Glazed N' Amused is a pearl pink that is out of this world and is reviving the Hailey Bieber glazed donut the world was wild for last year. Babes, this color is so. good. It's laidback and relaxed yet has this undercurrent of playfulness that I cannot resist. Yes, you could apply this over another shade to pearlize it; however, I wore it on its own here and absolutely loved the result. One of my faves from this collection! This is 3 coats.

Without A Pout is a Hawt Pink Creme. Yesyesyes! Y'all, this shade is serving! Without A Pout is a spicy hawt pink creme that gives Barbie vibes, and makes me want to apply a bright pink lippy stat! Downside? The formula here was terrible! Without A Pout flaked in less than 24 hours (even with a base and top coat!), and continued to do so for the entire week that I wore it. Not sure if this was just a bad bottle or not; but I had to toss it. Womp womp. This is 2 coats.

Apricot AF is an Apricot Creme. This shade for spring into summer is such a vibe. Apricot AF is a peach sorbet inspired apricot creme that was made for poolside afternoons and warm weather. As opposed to being a bright apricot, this one is more muted, giving it a neutral touch that will please my nude nail girlies. Formula here was good - it's fast dry and reaches opacity quickly. Not sure if I would repeat-wear; but it's a nice transition shade. This is 2 coats.

BOOK REVIEW: The Ballad of Never After {Once Upon A Broken Heart, Book 2} by Stephanie Garber

"She used to think love was like a house. Once it was built, a person got to live in it forever. But now she wondered if love was more like a war with new foes constantly appearing and battles creeping up. Winning at love was less about succeeding in a battle and more about continuing to fight, to choose the person you loved as the one you were willing to die for, over and over."

I didn't think it was possible to love this series more; yet here I am, having just closed the pages of Stephanie Garber's The Ballad of Never After, further enchanted by the world, by the characters, by the trilogy as a whole. Y'all, I don't typically get swoony over books, but this one...I could not put down. The magic, the mystery, the heartbreak was immense, and I am still recovering from it. True story.

Evangeline Fox is done with Jacks, aka, the Prince of Hearts. Once before she made the error of trusting him, only to be double-crossed and lied to; therefore, the best course of action now is to simply ignore him. But alas, that is easier said than done, as betrayal is bad, yes; but a new curse has entered the chat, and Jacks is the only one who can help Evangeline unravel it.

While the last curse that plagued Evangeline was one of love; the new curse that has been placed upon her is quite a bit different...in fact, it's murderous. With Jacks' assistance, it is deemed necessary for Evangeline to do precisely what she has been avoiding for dear life...open the Valory Arch. Though she's hesitant to do so, she is aware that it's her only hope for a shot at true love {not to mention survival}; thus, she agrees to the task, and begins her quest to unearth the four magical stones needed to fulfill her duty - that of youth, truth, luck, and mirth.

The only thing known of the stones is that they are all hidden somewhere within the Magnificent North - enshrouded in riddle, glamour, and intriguing soiree. But not all is magnificent in the north. Though places like the Hollow and Merrywood are charming habitations; others, such as Slaughterwood Castle, are heavy on horror, and light on loveliness. Nevertheless, Evangeline has Jacks by her side; and, though she's wont to admit it, she's at her happiest in his company. But as we've learned about Evangeline over the course of the past two books, a happy ending seems unlikely to be a part of her world; and just as she feels as if true love and happiness is within reach, the rug is firmly pulled out from under her in a way that will send her and Jacks into an unexpected spiral that they may be unable to recover from.

That cliffhanger! Usually, I like a little breathing room following the read of a truly enchanting story to fully digest the new revelations; but the placement of the cliffhanger to close this tome has left me grappling for the finale, A Curse for True Love, as I absolutely must know what happens to Jacks and Evangeline.

Never have I ever felt so strongly that two fictional characters must be each others endgame; but I cannot bare the thought of the two of them not ending up together. I am positively in love with Jacks, and he and Evangeline have such a brilliant relationship, what with the banter and the flirtiness and the fact that they genuinely care for each other {despite the fact that they pretend that they don't}. They are literal goals, and I feel empty not knowing how their story ends. A Curse for True Love, here I come!

NOTD: OPI Big Zodiac Energy Infinite Shine Collection in Big Sagittarius Energy

Two coats of OPI Big Zodiac Energy Infinite Shine Collection in Big Sagittarius Energy. Burgundy Pearl.

Y'all, this is a top tier color for fall; but yeah, I'm trying it for the first time at the start of spring. Go figure.

Big Sagittarius Energy is a gorgeous burgundy pearl that is a quintessential bridge between maroon and plum. This shade is simply decadent, and would look so beautiful coupled with cognacs and slouchy knits in the throes of autumn; but for now it's just divine for adding a kiss of vamp to your florals and pastels. Formula was fantastic here! Yes, you can get full opacity in just one coat; but I opted for two to really get that richness. I absolutely adore this one!

BOOK REVIEW: House of Earth and Blood {Crescent City Book 1} by Sarah J. Maas

"The scent of her still lingered on the sidewalk, lilac and nutmeg and something he couldn’t quite place — like the gleam of the first stars at nightfall."

Let me preface this review by stating that Sarah J. Maas' House of Earth and Blood almost ended up in my DNF pile. I literally struggled for the first 200 pages or so, disliking the characters and feeling overall underwhelmed; and then everything started to fall into place and I could not put it downo , so pleasepleaseplease let this be a sign to you to keep on. Maas' first books focus a lot on world-building in the beginning, but the payoff is incredible - and so worth sticking around. Just saying.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life. Sure, as a half-Fae half-human she wasn't always accepted by either species, not to mention the fact that her powerful Fae father has never wanted anything to do with her; but there were some who thought the world of her - specifically, her BFF Danika. Danika...the yin to Bryce's yang - two party girls navigating the world of hook-ups and screw-ups. The singular oddity being Danika's role as leader of the pack - and we're not talking about the Regina George type of leader; rather, we're talking full-fledged werewolf pack leader. And yes, you read that right.

On a night when Bryce decides to ditch her bestie for an evening of drugs, drinking, and overall debauchery, however, indescribable tragedy occurs in the form of a demon who savagely murders all of the people Bryce cares most about, leaving her alone - a mere shell of herself. The accused being behind bars is a small consolation to her loss; but two years later, when the murders begin again, Bryce is back in the spotlight. This time, acting as the literal heartbeat of the investigation - and at the end of the day, she will do anything to avenge the deaths of her friends. That includes working side by side with an intolerable Fallen Angel.

Hunt Athalar, the Fallen Angel in question, is notorious for his prior bad behavior. Currently serving a slavery sentence to the very Archangels he once attempted to overthrow, Hunt is known for his strength and brutality {thus the reason he was so good at his job as assassin}. Now, Hunt is willing to say yes to any job that will shorten his slavery punishment - and if that means working side by side with Bryce to find the murderer, so be it. But as the two begin digging deep into the gritty underbelly of Crescent City, it soon becomes clear that a dark power is at work, placing everyone they love in grave danger. And surprisingly enough, one of the things they love most is none other than...each other. Whether they'll be able to save Crescent City and its residents forever as they know it to see if the spark between them can survive, however, depends on how much they're both willing to risk.

Y'all, when I say that I didn't like Bryce at the beginning of this book, I am not lying. I found her to be immature and obnoxious; but seeing her growth from beginning to end was insane. I'm not sure if it was Hunt's presence in her life, or simply going through everything she went through, that changed her; but, in the end, I loved her, and I loved Hunt, and I loved Bryce and Hunt together, and I loved the fact that they essentially became the Nancy Drew and Ned Nickerson of the supernatural world. Their personalities just vibed in all of the best ways, and I could not resist their chemistry. And then when you toss in the bad Fae Prince that is Ruhn Danaan? NGL...literally dying.

This right here is what incredible urban romantasy looks like. It doesn't matter if you weren't a fan of A Court of Thorns and Roses or Throne of Glass...you absolutely must try Crescent City on for size because it. is. amazing. I literally cannot wait to spiral into House of Sky and Breath, because if it is anything like its predecessor, you know it is a literal chef's kiss. Thank you for this gem, Ms. Maas!

Two coats of OPI Big Zodiac Energy Infinite Shine Collection in Scorpio Seduction. Cobalt Blue Pearl.

It's giving Frozen ice queen vibes.

Scorpio Seduction is a stunning cobalt blue pearl that reads blurple in certain lighting, and is just decadent to look at. OPI Big Zodiac Energy Fall '23 Nail Lacquer 4-Piece Swatches + Review

NGL, this OPI set was from Fall 2023, but I saw it at Ulta last month, so I grabbed it because the shades looked pretty, and I kinda loved the name Big Zodiac Energy. Yes, I'm a sucker for a good gimmick. Aaaaanyway...I liked this quartet. A couple of the colors weren't really my thing; but I feel like they captured the essence of the Zodiac - and honestly, that was the point of the collection. I'll let you make up your own mind regarding shades. Swatch time!

Scorpio Seduction is a Cobalt Blue Pearl. It's giving Frozen ice queen vibes. Scorpio Seduction is a stunning cobalt blue pearl that reads blurple in certain lighting, and is just decadent to look at. This one definitely gives off a winter, New Year's feel; but, if you dig darks, you'll probably love this year-round. Formula is slightly thin; however, it builds to opacity quickly, and dries in a flash. This is 2 coats.

Virgoals is a Bronze Pearl. I'm not sure what I was expecting from this shade; but ngl I'm kinda digging the whole bronzey, peachy, gold hybrid glow. Virgoals is a brilliant bronze pearl that is one of those year round wear shades that looks equally as gorgeous in the winter as it does in the spring. For me, I especially love it for autumn and summer because those rich bronze tones give me that glowing goddess meets fall foliage vibe. Yes, this did take 4 coats for opacity; but, in its defense, this mani stayed intact for an entire week, and was rapid dry. Literal love at first sight shade right here. This is 4 coats.

Feelin' Libra-ted is a Violet Pearl Shimmer. So...I legit thought that this was a deep plum from looking at the bottle, but look how wrong I was. Feelin' Libra-ted is a beautiful violet pearl shimmer that is one of those purples that will work year-round {as opposed to being a fall or spring-specific purple}. This shade was super sheer - we're talking completely translucent until coat 3, which I was 100% not expecting. That said, it is a pretty little color that has a certain charm to it that is v appealing. Not sure if I'll repeat-wear, but it definitely makes the cutie mark. This is 3 coats.

Big Sagittarius Energy is a Burgundy Pearl. Y'all, this is a top tier color for fall; but yeah, I'm trying it for the first time at the start of spring. Go figure. Nailor's Knot is an ocean blue creme that is making me crave warmer temps! This one is so bright and beautiful {without being neon or requiring underwear}. Formula was supercalifragifab - we're talking perfect leveling, opacity...all of the things. I wore this shade for a full 7 days with no chips or tipwear; so if you're craving blue...you know you need this one!

BOOK REVIEW: Once Upon A Broken Heart {Once Upon A Broken Heart, Book 1} by Stephanie Garber

"She knew there were downsides to feeling deeply; it could get in the way of logic and reason. But shutting off emotions was just as treacherous."

I am so grateful that I did not realize that Once Upon a Broken Heart was written by Stephanie Garber when I first picked it up, because I could not get into her Caraval series, so if I realized that she had written this beforehand, I may have passed it up, and missed out on all of the magic found between the pages, and that would have broken my heart {no pun intended}. But I digress...

While some grow up in grocers or bakeries, seventeen-year-old Evangeline Fox had a far more interesting environment during her younger years: that of her father's curiosity shop, Maximilian's Curiosities, Whimsies & Other Oddities. It was there that her ears and mind were filled with accounts of the 16 legendary immortal Fates - including the terribly tragic tales surrounding the charming Prince of Hearts. According to lore, the Prince of Hearts has mythic powers; a kiss that makes one weak in the knees then kills them; and a habit of making bargains with unsuspecting mortals that rarely, if ever, end well.

Never, in all of her wildest dreams, did Evangeline believe that she would call on the Prince of Hearts for assistance; but, as they say, all's fair in love and war. When Evangeline learns that Luc, the love of her life, is about to marry another {I won't spoil things by telling you who; but I will say that it will make your blood boil}, Evangeline deems that desperate times call for desperate measures, so she offers the Prince of Hearts the unthinkable: absolutely anything in exchange to stop the wedding. Obviously, the Prince would be ridiculous to refuse an offer like that, so he accepts, and with quite the simple stipulation {or so it seems} in return: three kisses. Evangeline is under the impression that she got off easy; and thinks that, perhaps, maybe, the stories surrounding the Prince of Hearts are just that...stories. That is, until the first kiss.

A kiss seems incredibly harmless; but kisses directed by the Prince of Hearts are anything but. Just ask Evangeline. Following that first kiss, she realizes that the kisses in question are ill-intentioned, with the recipients being selected for the Prince's own personal gain. But it's too little, too late. The deal has been made, and there is no going back. The question is, will it lead Evangeline to the ultimate happily ever after, or the greatest tragedy the Magnificent North has ever seen? Evangeline is just as eager as you are to learn the answer to that question.

You guys! My actual heart. I love this book in the vein that Chuck Bass loves Blair Waldorf - and that is saying so, so much! Once Upon A Broken Heart is one of those once in a lifetime books that puts you in an instant chokehold that you're not released from until the last page is turned. The characters, the scenarios, the storyline, the constant twists...each and every bit of this tale is a literal chef's kiss.

Jacks captured my heart in a way that few male literary characters have managed in years. He's mischievous, and manic, and magical, and magnetic, and you can't help but to find yourself falling for him the more you learn. His relationship with Evangeline, though complicated, to be sure, is one that is incredibly intriguing as you watch their lives intertwine. And Evangeline? As far as female mc's go, I adored her! She has a naivete to her personality that is endearing; and she truly has such a beautiful heart. She brings so much out in Jacks that you can't help but ot love their scenes together {and hope that something more comes of their friendship, relationship...what have you}. I already have the sequel, The Ballad of Never After, cued up on my Kindle; and I'm contemplating giving Caraval another shot once I finish this series. Who knows...maybe I'll have a change of heart.

Sorry for the lack of link with this one babes, but it was included in a set that is no longer available {and was gifted to me by a student from last year}.

Light Pink {I dubbed it that btw, though I think Baby's Breath would be a pretty name} is a baby pink creme that was made for the month of l-o, l-o, l-o, l-o-v-e. Y'all this color is so good. It has a peachy undertone that gives it a flirty, ultra-girly vibe that I'm obsessed with! Formula was phenomenal! This one lasted for a full week without so much as a chip or crack. prioritize yourself

if you’re struggling, you deserve to make self-care a priority. maybe that looks like lying in bed all day, crying, finding an escape through a book, sleeping, rescheduling plans, binging a tv show, going for a long walk, or doing nothing at all. give yourself permission to put your healing first. to prioritize yourself. quiet the voice telling you to do more, and be more; and today, whatever you do, let it be enough. feel your feelings, breathe, and be gentle with yourself. acknowledge that you’re doing the best you can to cope and survive. ilysm.🫶🏻

BOOK REVIEW: Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter

"My favorite thing about music—when you played it loud enough through good headphones (and I had the best) — was that it softened the edges of the world."

Ever since I joined the world of Bookstagram, I've been introduced to titles that are out of my genre comfort zone; but since I was in a bit of a reading slump for 2023, I figure...why not? Which is precisely how Lynn Painter's Better Than the Movies entered my orbit. You guys, after reading this cutie I think I'm officially a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope!

Seventeen-year-old Liz 'Libby' Buxbaum has been a daydreaming lovergirl since the ripe old age of seven, when her mother introduced her to Bridget Jones's Diary. On that day, after falling for the charming playboy, she was also taught a ginormous lesson: never choose the bad boy. Though her rom-com loving mother has since passed, Libby has never forgotten that very, very important bit of advice - and is always on the lookout for Mr. Right. The sweet, nice, dependable Mr. Right, that is. All of the things that Liz's neighbor, Wes 'Wessy' Bennet is most certainly not.

Frenemies since childhood, Liz and Wes have never been in each other's Top 5. Though infantile pranks {read: decapitated lawn gnomes} are no longer part of the equation; Wes still manages to be a huge pain in Liz's butt - mainly due to the continual battle for The Spot. Prime parking situated right in front of both of their houses - but only enough room for one vehicle. Liz, unfortunately, rarely wins {though she has figured out ways to execute revenge}; and Wes manages to almost always come out victorious given his penchant for depositing strange objects as a space saver {iron picnic tables, monster truck wheels...the usual}. Now that Michael is back in town, however, Wes may just become Liz's knight in shining armor.

Enter Michael Young - Liz's childhood crush and all-around good boy. Michael moved away years ago, but he's back...and hotter. than. ever. Liz knows that Michael is undoubtedly the guy who will fulfill all of her romantic comedy fantasies - if only they would make it to their first date. Sure, they've chatted about the past, but Liz wants Michael to ask her to prom; which is where Wes comes in to, admittedly, save the day. Wes and Michael have quickly reignited their childhood bromance, so Liz enlists Wes to help her get the guy by pretending they're a thing to nudge Michael into her arms. But the more time Liz spends with Wes, the more she realizes that she underestimated his potential. He's actually a really good guy; and, dare she say it, she likes spending time with him. A lot. Now she's forced to question everything she has ever learned about love in order to find her happily ever after.

Can someone please tell me where to find Wes IRL because I'm literally in love with him, and I want him to be more than my book boyfriend. I'm being totally serious right now btw. Lynn Painter did such a phenomenal job with Better Than the Movies. This is not the typical book that I go for; but the combination of playlists and movie quotes and song lyrics and brilliant characters was a literal chef's kiss. Never in my life did I think I would fall in love with a romantic comedy-esque frenemies-to-lovers tale; yet here we are. Ngl, it was glaringly obvious how this was going to end; but the best part of the ride was watching the love story develop, and being there for all of the sweet moments that we wish we could experience ourselves (you know it’s true, so don’t even!). If you're searching for a sweet love story sans smut, you absolutely must take this one home - and read it while listening to the official playlist of Wessy and Libby. Obsessed! And on my way to check out more by Ms. Painter.

Two coats of ZOYA Nail Polish in Inez. Magenta Creme w/ Rose Gold Microflakes.

Never have I ever fallen in love with a magenta polish; but I guess there's a first time for everything.

Inez is a magenta creme with rose gold microflakes, and let me tell you right now...those rose gold microflakes make all the difference. Y'all, this color is stunning - it's rich and lush, but girly at the same time. For me this is a total lemming, and I am obsessed. I seriously thought I would love this color, but it just didn't do it for me. Womp womp.

Vixen is a blackened cherry creme that gives off deep chocolate brown vibes. I typically dig an oxblood-meets-merlot shade, but this one was far darker than that, and didn't feel as chic as I thought it would. If you dig blacks, you'll probably like this one; but if you prefer a more red-leaning blackened cherry, Vixen isn't it. Cute name though.

BOOK REVIEW: Rebel: A Legend Novel by Marie Lu

"You rarely regret the things you do, but always the things you don’t."

I bought Marie Lu's Rebel: A Legend Novel back in February of 2022, but didn't pick it up until April 2023 because there was something about it that made me uneasy. You see, I felt a sense of closure when the final page of Champion was turned. Though I was excited at the prospect of a book told from Eden's POV; Day and June were done for me. Been there, done that. I wanted nothing more to do with them and their tawdry back and forth. Yes, at one point in time I shipped them like mad; but eventually they grew to bore me, and I felt that their relationship was satisfactorily put to rest. Sadly, I feel that the two of them managed to steal Eden's thunder in this installment - not too difficult tbh, because he was quite boring himself once given the power to carry his own tale; but still unfair to Eden in its own right.

For as long as he can remember, Eden has lived in the shadow of his hero brother, Daniel 'Day' Wing. And for good reason. It was Day, street rat Day, who singlehandedly led a revolution that ultimately saved the Republic of America. Clearly no small feat, amiright? Though Eden has a laundry list of accomplishments all his own {incredible inventor at the top of his class, anyone?}, it likely will never top Day's achievements - a sentiment that is never far from Eden's mind. Day, on the other hand, is done. Years of living on the edge, and risking his life, have placed him in a mindset of keeping Eden safe. Period. He's not interested in fame, nor fortune; and while he would love to play a leading role in June's love life, that too is part of the past.

Neither Day or Eden can really claim true happiness. While they live comfortably in Ross City, Antarctica; they merely go through the day to day motions as expected of them. But things aren't as...cozy as they seem - for the brothers, a chasm growing between the two that once did not exist; and for the uppity Ross City itself. Because you see, Ross City, for all of its posh airs and pretentiousness, hides a dark underbelly, one where illegal drone races run rampant; residents turn to all manner of crime to survive or make ends meet; and a truly bizarre level system holds some down and boosts others far higher than they deserve. When Eden becomes deeply involved in Drone Racing, and, in turn, Dominic Hann, Day resolves to save the brother he has slowly been moving away from; but sometimes people have to save themselves.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: Marie Lu is a very hit and miss author. Her talent is exponential, but sometimes it's simply not executed well, and you wind up disliking it, or growing bored; and maybe that's exactly where I started with Rebel. The June/Day storyline has run its course; and, unfortunately, IMO, Eden could not carry a book on his own {despite once being one of my favorite characters}. The fact that he had such trite secondary characters surrounding him {Dominic Hann, Pressa...} didn't make it easier on him. The secondary characters used to carry this series when June and Day became tiring. Gone are the Tess', and Pascao's, and Kaede's...characters who you rooted for alongside our MCs. Rebel lacked that, and it was stifling to the story as a whole.

This is me hoping that this is the end of the Legend series. And, if for some reason it isn't, I don't plan on returning to the world of Day, or Eden, or June. For those of you who have not yet gone beyond Champion, I encourage you to stop here and give Warcross a try instead. Another Marie Lu book, yes; but one that actually tops the Legend series hype. You're welcome.

NOTD: Nailtopia Nail Lacquer in Oh Kale Yeah!

Two coats of Nailtopia Nail Lacquer in Oh Kale Yeah!. Deep Green Creme.

I actually found this shade in my stash just before Christmas last year, so it became my Christmas mani, and it. was. stunning.

Oh Kale Yeah! is a deep green creme that gives out of the woods vibes, what with its rich, outdoors-y tone. This one surprised me because it's fairly sheer after coat one; but definitely reaches opacity after two coats. I personally loved this color, and will definitely be pulling it out again during fall/winter 2024. If you love a good deep green, you need to add this beauty to your collection!

NOTD: ZOYA Magical Collection 2023 Nail Lacquer Collection in Bisoux

Two coats of ZOYA Nail Polish in Bisoux. Opal Pink w/ Rose Microflakes and Gold Holo.

This color 100% lives up to the collection name because it is simply magical.

Bisoux is a pale opal pink w/ rose microflakes and gold holo that is giving me unicorn vibes. If you're a fan of whites, you will definitely dig this beauty because the pink is so subtle that it's almost not discernible when it's on the nail. This one had an amazing wear time with zero chips. I literally assembled 5 pieces of furniture while wearing this shade, and my mani still looked flawless. Talk about a testimony, amiright?

BOOK REVIEW: A Court of Thorns and Roses {A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1} by Sarah J. Maas

"He smiled at me still, broadly and without restraint or hesitation. Isaac had never smiled at me like that. Isaac had never made my breath catch, just a little bit."

It's probable that Sarah J. Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses had caught my eye prior to the end of September 2023; in fact, I'm sure of it. Perhaps it simply wasn't the right time, however, for me to discover it; therefore, it didn't officially enter my world until that fateful day. But that's the way all good book love stories begin. They enter your life when you need them most; and perhaps I needed a good, strong romance just then. But I digress...

Feyre is just nineteen-years-old when she kills a wolf in the woods. The killing itself isn't an anomaly - far from it in fact; after all, Feyre is a huntress. An illiterate, yes; but the only individual able to keep her family afloat with a skill learned all her own. Unfortunately, this kill is unlike the others; for unbeknownst to Feyre, this is no ordinary wolf. The wolf in question is none other than an immortal faerie occupying the land between the mortal realm, and Prythian, a magical land where High Lords roam amongst ethereal faeries, shapeshifters, and frightening creatures one want not even to dream of.

Though at first things seem fine following the killing, Feyre is soon visited by Tamlin, another faerie {this one the High Lord of the Spring Court wearing the mask of a beast} who arrives at Feyre's doorstep to take her to her fate. You see, by killing the wolf, Feyre has broken a centuries-old treaty between the mortals and the faeries. Feyre must now give her life in exchange for the one she took in coldblood. Though another might have demanded Feyre's blood; Tamlin has just one request: that Feyre live out her days on his estate in Prythian. And so she bids her family farewell, and heads over the wall.

Upon arrival, Feyre is convinced that this is a prison sentence come to life. After all, wouldn't it be easier to be dead than to live out one's days surrounded by a literal beast as well as the emissary and best friend of said beast, Lucien? As time passes, however, Feyre's heart begins to thaw towards both members of the Spring Court. Soon she has developed feelings for Tamlin, and can't picture herself separated from him even for a day; but the more time she spends in Prythian, the more she realizes that all is not right in the land of Fae. In fact, with each passing second, an ancient wicked blight is spreading further across Prythian; and if Feyre, as someone with a human heart, doesn't do something to stop it, Tamlin and his world will be doomed forever.

Originally I picked up A Court of Thorns and Roses because I had heard that it was a retelling of my favorite fairytale, Beauty and the Beast; and while it shares elements of that wondrous romance, it is not, by any means, a retelling. Rather it is its own tale that, at times, feels like two stories woven into one: Feyre in Prythian, and a fiercer version of Feyre returning to the magical lands to save Tamlin and the Spring Court once and for all. Yes, there are times it feels as if the two halves don't make a whole; but they are done well enough to keep one invested in reading. And, in all honesty, are very necessary in order to pave the way for Rhysand.

Yes, some of you will fall head over heels for the supposed Prince Charming, Tamlin; whilst others will be drawn to the quintessential bad boy, Rhysand. While Rhysand makes a brief appearance in the first half of the book, he does so in a manner that makes him instantly unlikable. It is only when he returns as an MC in the second half that he redeems himself in his unique fashion, making him swoon-worthy. Who I am rooting for in this love triangle remains to be seen; but I will be picking up A Court of Mist and Fury sooner rather than later to explore further. After all, bad boy vs. beast is never an easy decision to make.

NOTD: ZOYA Magical Collection 2023 Nail Lacquer Collection in Adara

Two coats of ZOYA Nail Polish in Adara. Lapis Blue Shimmer w/ Scattered Rose Gold and Blue Holo.

This color! Insert all the heart eyes here!

Adara is a lapis blue shimmer with scattered rose gold and blue holo that brings serious ice queen vibes. While the color is brilliant, however, the formula is not. Womp womp. I had a lot of chipping and tipwear right off the bat with this one; so it's definitely best reserved for a weekend wear as opposed to week long or more. Still recommend for the unique shade!

ZOYA Magical Collection Nail Polish Swatches + Review

When I say that ZOYA has been slaying the holiday polish game, I am 100% not lying! Enamored Group A, Enamored Group B, and now...Magical. Pinch me! For reals though. Y'all, this collection is so, so pretty. While Enamored Group A and Enamored Group B were kind of like an even split of reds, and glitters, and darks, leaving you to select the bundle that was best for you; Magical is basically a blend of all of the colors, so you get, to quote Hannah Montana "...the best of both worlds..." Swatches in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Cherri is a Blue-Toned Red Creme. Y'all know that I'm not huge on reds, but this one? Chef's kiss. Cherri is a blue-toned red creme that brings about visions of Rudolph's nose and mistletoe - yes, it is a perfect Christmas red! The formula for this one is breathtaking! Not only does it apply flawlessly, but its weartime is phenomenal! If you love reds, you need to add this one to your collection immediately! This is 2 coats.

Fairleigh is an Oyster Shell Holo. Le sigh. This color is just giving me all of the festive feels! Fairleigh is an oyster shell holo that is equal parts sophisticated and sassy. For those of you who typically gravitate towards whites and creams, this color will have you in a chokehold. The scattered holo is just stunning. Formula here was fantastic. This could easily act as a top coat to another shade; but when you apply two coats you get the gorgeous opacity you see here. Highly recommend for the holidays, or as an amped up neutral!

Vixen is a Blackened Cherry Creme. This is 2 coats.

Inez is a Magenta Creme w/ Rose Gold Microflakes. NGL, I did have a bit of flaking while wearing {towards the end of the 6 days}, but a quick touch-up fixed it immediately, so not a dealbreaker. Highly recommended! This is 2 coats.

AVAILABILITY: ZOYA.

PRICE: $72.00 for the full-size, 6-piece collection; $12.00 for each full-size bottle

january is january

people put so much stress and anxiety into the concept of january, but here’s the sitch: january is january. you’re still going to feel feelings once the clock strikes midnight. you’re still going to cry; you’re still going to laugh; you’re still going to hope; you’re still going to dream. it’s all just going to occur in another year. 2023 is out, 2024 is in; but it’s still just january, and everything is going to be fine. i promise. that said, here are 19 reminders for 2024 ♡

1. you can read every in/out list there is, but you still have to figure out what works for you because there is no one size fits all when it comes to human emotion.
2. you don’t need a new year to start over. not happy where you are in 3 months? begin again.
3. things don’t happen overnight, including transformation. if you seek results too soon, you’re going to wind up disappointed.
4. you are the only person who decides what is significant to you.
5. choose your people wisely. it’s not about distance - it’s about who’s ‘there’, and who loves you.
6. overthinking is every bit as dangerous as not thinking at all - balance is key.
7. being lonely and being alone are not one and the same.
8. you won’t always get the closure you need or deserve; sometimes you just have to give it to yourself.
9. it’s easier to process things when you take a step back and separate yourself from them for awhile.
10. there’s nothing wrong with therapy. sharing your feelings, and talking your way through them is iconic. period.
11. when forgiveness is too hard to muster up acceptance is fine.
12. reality is multifaceted.
13. so is emotion.
14. curiosity is a power. be curious. always.
15. there will always be a song lyric to describe exactly how you’re feeling at this very moment, you just have to find it.
16. write it down. your thoughts, your feelings, your hopes, your dislikes…all of it. self talk is real and it’s spectacular.
17. the right person for you probably isn’t a replica of the dream person you thought up in your mind - that’s okay.
18. it’s also okay if you make mistakes. we’re human. mistakes are a part of life. don’t beat yourself up over them.
19. long story short, you’ll survive.

2023

a reminder that for all of the times 2023 looked like smiles and laughter, it also looked like tears and heartbreak. it’s okay if your 2023 was a bit of both (it’s called balance for a reason). it’s okay if your lesson learned was that some things get broken and stay broken, no matter how much you try and piece them back together. it’s okay if your big takeaway was that things don’t always work out the way you want them to, regardless of how well-laid your plans were. it’s also okay if you’re still navigating through rough times, trying to seek out better ones. if 2023 was everything, everywhere all at once, congratulations…you did it right. love you.🫶🏻

happy christmas angels!

happy christmas angels. <33 yes, the holidays can be extremely lonely. for many of us (read: most), the holidays bring to light the fact that we never had the ‘perfect’ family that we dreamed about in our childhood fantasies (plot twist: there’s no such thing as perfect). it’s okay if today looks like lying on the floor with your AirPods listening to playlists to quiet your noisy mind; or binging movies to make you laugh, or cry, or reminisce, or contemplate why that letter to Hogwarts never arrived. it’s okay if you’re spending the day cuddling with your furbaby (or maybe you, like me, are spending the morning walking dogs at a shelter). it’s okay if you’re ordering pizza and burning cookies as opposed to carving turkey and devouring the perfect pumpkin pie. it’s also okay if you’re excited to spend time with your family. or if you’re barely tolerating their invasive questions and snarky comments and are counting down the seconds until they vacate the premises. today will take billions of different shapes for billions of different people, and each will simply be what it is. maybe not good, maybe not bad…just moments. take them for what they are, feel the way you need to feel, and move forward. ilysm.❤️

NOTD: ZOYA December 2023 Color of the Month Nail Lacquer in Vienna

Two coats of ZOYA Nail Polish in Vienna. Metallic Gold w/ Iridescent Microshimmer.

This shade right here? Literally just converted me to a gold lover. True story.

Vienna is a Metallic Gold w/ iridescent hex shimmer, irregular flakes, gold and iridescent microshimmer, and fine white pearl that gives off the most royal vibes I have ever seen in polish form. Like this? This right here is it. Literally no other metallic shades are needed if you have Vienna in your life - she is supreme. Formula was fantastic. I didn't expect opacity in 2 coats, but I achieved that so easily; and dry time was brilliant. This is one of those shades that is perfect for going glam or simply embracing as an amped up neutral. You need her!

NOTD: ZOYA Enamored Collection 2023 Nail Lacquer Collection in Murphy

Two coats of ZOYA Nail Polish in Murphy. Metallic Army Green.

NGL, this color is quintessential fall.

Murphy is a metallic army green that is literal bliss for autumn. The formula and finish for this one is v similar to that of Eleanor {also in this collection}; but the color is in a class of its own. I received so many compliments on this shade; and it is undoubtedly one of the the most perfect colors for fall into winter. This one is a must!

NOTD: ZOYA Enamored Collection 2023 Nail Lacquer Collection in Jean

Two coats of ZOYA Nail Polish in Jean. Indigo Periwinkle with Holographic Finish.

Tell me it's soiree season without telling me its soiree season.

Jean is an iconic indigo periwinkle with holographic finish that gives denim-meets-Frozen vibes. This one is a showstopper that will keep all eyes on your tips. Formula here is flawless. Jean is very buildable; while I used two coats here, I could definitely see the color being even more intense with a third coat. Just saying. Highly recommend!
