Jewelry Grows on Trees

How many times have you heard the saying “money doesn’t grow on trees?” Personally, I’ve lost count. Maybe money doesn’t grow on trees; but jewelry does. At least, it does now. I spend countless hours each week trying to untangle my long necklaces and bracelets. It’s similar to the amount of time spent unraveling Christmas lights around the holidays and often results in me leaving the house without my lovely accessories in tow; which is why I am saying goodbye to my jewelry box, and hello to a...jewelry tree. Jewelry trees are the perfect way to store your gems; and when they’re as cute as these, they make for a wonderful decorative touch as well!

Urban Outfitters is like the fashion version of a supportive friend who always lends a shoulder for you to lean on when you’re in need; and this Little Birch Jewelry Stand, $24, proves it. The colors of the coated aluminum branches are reminiscent of the great outdoors, while the velvet-lined base is nothing short of a Tiffany’s display case. Adorned with your most treasured accessories, this little tree will be transformed into a majestic sight that is both handy and handsome!

It may not look like a tree found in your backyard, but the Umbra Bijou Chrome Jewelry Tree, $19..99, is kind of...well, amazing. The twelve arms are of varying heights which make it perfect for accommodating even your longest baubles, and the little bottom tray (which doubles as the supportive stand for the entire contraption) is a simple place to store everything from rings to studs. Plus, if you weren’t already smitten enough, the color and design is, literally, fit for a queen.

It seems like wealthy people always have tiered sterling silver holders sitting front and center in their living rooms that are constantly stocked with lavish desserts – from petit fours to fresh fudge. I have always wanted one for myself, but never really saw any use for it – until now. This Vintage Iron Jewelry Holder, $49, is a charming – and useful – alternative. Featuring three levels (that rotate!), as well as stylish scalloped edges (which are pierced to accommodate your dangly earrings), this is one jewelry tree that you simply cannot live without!

After being away from stores for a few days, the mere sight of a clothes rack often sends me into a tizzy; so you can only imagine the buzz that went through me when I spotted this Solid Stainless Steel Jewelry Tree and Earring Tree, $44.95. The six arms remind me of the clothing racks that adorn my favorite boutiques, and provide enough storage space to accommodate even my large jewelry collection. The oval mahogany base only thrills me even more, as it provides such an elegant touch to the piece that I simply cannot resist.

Bead Me Up Scotty!

Every time I say that I won't buy anymore shoes, a new pair surfaces and captures my heart. This weeks footwear du jour? Forever 21's Hailey Moc Boot. These sassy Southwest treasures embody everything that I look for in a boot: fringes, moccasin-like stitching, and, my personal favorite...beads! I don't know how I ever went through life without a pair of shoes that were adorned with beads, but now that I've spotted these, I just know that another day cannot pass me by without adding them to my ever-growing shoe collection. These will look so boho-glamorous when paired with my dark wash mini during the spring; my pink polka-dotted bikini in the summer; my white skinnies during the fall; my little black dress in the winter. I can already picture the possibilities perfectly; but even more enticing is the fact that, in my head, I can hear the sound of the beads clacking together as I strut my stuff. Bead me up Scotty!

Smooth Sailing

I was on a ship once when I was five-years-old as part of a whale-watching excursion that included my entire first grade class. I spent the whole day seasick. I haven’t been on a boat since, but I am more than willing to take the plunge if it involves wearing this fabulous ensemble from Stella McCartney. The cream-colored anchor-adorned sweater is such a perfect way to hop on the nautical theme bandwagon. Paired with the navy blue sailboat skirt (dotted with little seagulls!), I can’t picture a more fitting getup for a day spent on the high seas. Just looking at this outfit conjures up visions of hundred-foot yachts, mingling with dapper millionaires draped in decadent jewels, and remote islands covered in white sand. I may be spending Spring Break sitting behind a desk; but a girl can dream, can’t she?

Desperately Seeking Nadia

When I was seven-years-old I received a set of nesting dolls for my birthday from a family friend that I thought were the most wonderful treasure. Their colors were bright, and the fact that each one opened up to reveal an identical counterpart - only smaller than the last - made me feel as if I had been given numerous gifts in one. When we moved, I misplaced my nesting dolls, and have yet to find them; I have, however, found something just as good...little Nadia. Nadia is a tiny nesting doll that is more useful than the rest because she holds the power to transform your entire outfit by hanging front and center from your neck via an eighteen-inch gold toned chain attached to a vintage-inspired, gold-trimmed, flower-adorned piece of enameled metal. Everything about this Naughty Secretary Club creation is perfect - from Nadia's little eyelashes and heart-shaped mouth, to the perky flowers dotting her wooden body. Floppy and Fabulous

I honestly don’t know how Brigitte Bardot managed to find such fantastic floppy hats, because on my quest to locate just one, I have come across nothing but overbearing headwear that virtually eats your head alive, or flops into your eyes, making you unable to see anything within a five-inch radius. It’s a frustrating predicament that leads me to believe that locating the perfect floppy hat is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Virtually impossible. But, alas, perhaps I’m wrong. After a few rushed lunch hour internet searches I have managed to locate not one, not two, but five floppy hats filled with fashionable possibilities. Now the only issue standing in the way of me and floppy fabulosity is deciding which one will make the cut...here are the contenders.

When searching for clothing and accessories, American Apparel has never ranked very high on my "check it out" list. In fact, at times I have a tendency to completely forget to check their site for new products. The moment I spotted their Wool Floppy Hat, $40, however, all that changed. Light grey, luggage brown, black...the colors alone are perfect, but the shape, paired with just the right amount of floppy glamour makes it pure perfection. I can't help but feel that donning this gem would make me feel like an old-time movie star, or a chic French fashionista.

Bows are my weakness. They're adorable yet possess such a high-fashion sense of glamour that is, in my opinion, utterly irresistible. Which is why my jaw literally hit the floor when I discovered this Juicy Couture Women's Wool Felt Floppy Hat, $59.50. This is one of those fabulous finds that impulse buys are made of.

Straw hats seem like the headwear of choice when spending a day at the beach. They're lightweight, match just about any outfit (or bathing suit), and are inexpensive. That said, as much as I love a day spent by the seashore, walking along the boardwalk in a swingy sundress with espadrilles strapped upon my feet, I have never been able to find the beauty in straw hats. Until now. Through their Topstitch Grosgrain Floppy Hat, $10.80, Forever 21 has revived the oftentimes blase straw hat by weaving a grosgrain ribbon through the stitching that gives it a more youthful vibe that is both trendy and fun. With this adorable detailing, I can honestly say that straw hats will never be the same again!

I'm not sure whether it's the kitschy colors or the scalloped trim, but this Billabong Current Hat, $14.99, makes me want to step into a pair of bellbottoms, slip on some wedge platforms, and toss up a peace sign. It's the perfect way to celebrate the seventies, and channel your inner Woodstock-attending, VW van-driving, flower-loving hippie.

I am slowly realizing that colors such as cranberry, raspberry, and maroon have almost the same neutral-appeal as black, gray, and white. Which is possibly why I'm in love with this Glamorous Burgundy Wide Brim Diva Style Floppy Hat, $15.99. The color is reminiscent of red wine, and would look absolutely heavenly paired with a simple black turtleneck and dark wash skinny jeans. This would make for an intoxicating addition to any fashionista's hat collection!

Wheel of Shoes

If you're like me, you can hardly open your cloest without hundreds of shoes hurtling out at you at the speed of light. Shoes that, depending on their weight, and the size of the heels they possess, could, potentially, impale you. Or at least do some serious bodily harm. Which is why the discovery of the shoe wheel by Rakku Designs has made me absolutely, positively giddy. Available in four fabulous colors (I'll take the pink!), the shoe wheel is the answer to our closet space (or lack thereof) woes. It's like a closet-sized game of Wheel of Fortune with your favorite pair of shoes as the prize!

Going Retro

I’ve never in my life been interested in kitchenware. In fact, I’m much more likely to use disposable plates just so I can avoid doing dishes. But I’ve had a change of heart. Thanks to Orla Kiely’s retro-inspired line of kitchen and dining room essentials for Target I’ve come to the conclusion that it may be time to say goodbye to disposables and hello to the real thing.





Just one glance is all it took for me to realize that I don't just want the dinner plates. I want the tumblers, the serving trays, the storage crates, the placemats, the mugs, the seat cushions, the napkins, and, first and foremost, the aprons! As you can see, I want it all. I guess I'm in the midst of a June Cleaver moment - and I'm loving every second of it!

Bon Voyage!

Au revoir kittens, I’m on my way out the door for a vacation that dreams are made of. Each day I’ll be adorned in huge, face-framing sunglasses. The cool breeze will be fanning my hair. My hands will be occupied nonstop with fruity drinks dotted with colorful umbrellas. And, best of all, there will be shopping galore. Okay, so I’m not really gearing up for a vacation; but I should be. It seems like everyone has fabulous Spring Break plans. Everyone but me, that is. But this Kate Spade Au Revoir Griffen Tote may just have the power to change that. Virtual Clutch

As a fashion blogger what two things are you incapable of living without? For me, it’s a laptop and a chic clutch. Why? Well, for one, without a laptop I would be virtually (no pun intended) lost; and two, what girl wants to go through life without a fabulous clutch taking up space in her closet? So of course I’ve gone completely gaga over this Vivienne Tam Special Edition Mini 1000 Digital Clutch. At just 10-inches and 2.45 pounds, this is the crème de la crème of clutches. The best thing? It’s pink! And red! With flowers! And...there’s a matching scarf and tote! What more could a fashion-obsessed girl ask for?

Lamptastic!

I’m on a mission. To find the perfect lamp, that is. My one requirement? It can’t be stuffy. I want something fun, carefree, kitschy, cute, creative. I want a conversation piece. I want...one – or all – of these fantastic light sources.

Have you ever been to Sweet Factory? That self-serve candy store in malls that gives you the freedom to fill up on as much candy as you want, only to leave you in a state of shock when they weigh your sweets on that telltale scale that always lights up with an outrageous total? I used to spend every weekend at that store, loading up on chocolate covered gummi bears that I devoured with wild abandonment. While I haven’t been to Sweet Factory in years, I have found a new way to fulfill my love of gummi bears via JELLIO’s GummiLights. Erin from MTV’s The City turned me on to these beauties, and I simply can’t get them out of my head. I realize that they’re $125 each, but, price aside, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need them in all eight colors!

I’m currently battling a love for robots. I think it has to do with the adorable factor of the Pixar film Wall-E; because the moment I spotted this Robot Lamp Base from Urban Outfitters, Wall-E was the first thing that came to mind. The happy go lucky expression upon the robot's face, paired with the shiny metallic silver is enough to make me want to get up and dance (the Robot perhaps?).


I’ve always found ice cream shops to be one of the most charming places to spend the day. The smell of vanilla, the cute décor, the rainbow-colored sprinkles – it’s like a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired dream come true. Which is why I believe that this Ice Cream Lamp from Fred Flare – standing just over two-feet high – would be the most delectable addition to any room. The swirls, the life-like diamond-shaped cutouts on the cone...correct me if I’m wrong, but waking up to this little slice of heaven would be like a day at the fair!

Chandeliers are always such an elegant, sophisticated way to add personality to a room; yet they often appear somewhat cumbersome. Luckily, this Spectrum Chandelier from Urban Outfitters seems anything but. It appears lightweight, lovely, and full of life; and the dangling rainbow-colored charms? Well, okay, I’ll admit it...they bring about flashbacks of my childhood heroine Rainbow Brite. Plus, they’re fancy, fun, and flashy – just what the doctor ordered!

I thought that weekends were supposed to be full of lazy mornings spent in bed surrounded by colorful glossies. Mine have turned into days full of mundane multitasking madness. Luckily these things have managed to keep me sane. A watercolor fashion illustration that showcases one of my favorite things – colored tights! Clever ideas for hosting your very own tea party. Little girls with cute kittens. The smell of Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla coffee brewing in the morning. A guide to vintage bookshops. The Answer to Our Home Decorating Prayers

I was walking through the store this morning, searching for a new headband to add to my ever-growing collection, when what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a new magazine that brought me great cheer! We have all been devastated over the loss of Domino, but I have found a solution to our woes...Fresh Home magazine.

Over the past few weeks I have searched high and low for a publication that would provide me with the same joy as Domino, but kept coming up empty-handed. Until I discovered Fresh Home, that is. I love the size and the cover – it’s such a beautiful presentation; and each glossy page caused me to emit louder and louder high-pitched happy squeals. The DIY projects are explained in a way that anyone (from your favorite fashionista to your next-door Mr. Fix-It) can understand, which is something that the market was lacking until now. I particularly liked “The Right Paint,” page 62, wherein oil and water based, flat and satin paints are described so explicitly, that, after reading this, even I feel confident going to the hardware store to purchase the colorful stuff – something I typically would have never even considered. “The Right Brush,” “The Right Roller,” and “Paint Like the Pros” clinched the deal – now I feel like no painting project is too much for me to tackle!

The black and white pillows propped up on the couch on page 54 of “Color Magic” instantly made me think of the glamorous Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile. And “Fresh Facelifts under $500” on page 74? Well, let’s just say that this is an easy, affordable, and painless way to undergo plastic surgery. But I haven’t just been inspired to fix things up inside; Fresh Home has also given me some fresh ideas for outdoor projects like page 112’s “A Pot That’s Not” – I loved the sink and wagon planters. And I have just the wagon for this project – a vintage Radio Flyer that has been collecting dust in my garage since the early nineties!

What can I say? There’s so much here for $4.99. Not just a magazine full of pictures of homes, but detailed accounts of exactly what to do and how to do it, with fresh ideas, interesting tidbits of information, and articles that are not only well thought-out, but written in an easy-to-understand fashion. I’m currently channeling my inner handyman, complete with paint-splattered Converse, distressed skinnies, and a worn-in boyfriend tee (hey, who says handymen – or women – can’t be fashionable?). It may be about DIY and affordable decorating, but it’s really a lifestyle magazine. It sets a tone for living life to the fullest by creating your own world. I can’t help myself, I love it. I’m hooked!

I can honestly say that this magazine has something for everyone. Right now, I’m thinking of a friend who likes to barbecue who would love “Barbecue’s Back!” on page 128; and my sister’s boyfriend who will die for “Celebration Ales,” on page 130; and then there’s my treasure hunting cousin, who will swoon over “Sweet Flea,” on page 24. Let’s cut to the chase, I will be recommending this magazine to everyone I know, with sincere enthusiasm.

In actuality, it’s not just a magazine, it’s a reference guide. It’s the type of publication that you save all the back issues of, like a cherished set of Encyclopedias. Reasonably priced, fashionable, practical, and charming. There is only one way to describe all of this…wowie-zowie! Fresh Home magazine provides us with the tools to turn our personal living spaces into unique abodes that reflect our passions. Can we ask for anything more? In the words of Home Alone 2’s troublemaking Kevin McCallister, “I don’t think so.”

Secret Agent Girl

I’ve always wanted to be a spy. Or a detective. You can blame it on long, lazy adolescent summers spent lying in fields of daisies accompanied by Harriet the Spy, Nancy Drew, and Trixie Belden. It never happened though. Instead, I simply developed an infatuation with trench coats. There’s something so chic, yet completely mysterious about trench coats that makes you feel like you’re undercover, even if you’re just window shopping or schlepping a cart through a grocery store stocking up on canned goods. The funny part? I’ve never actually owned a trench coat of my own. Instead I’ve just admired them from afar. I think it’s time that changed.

I completely understand that if you’re trying for an incognito look – much like my beloved childhood pal, and Plaza Hotel resident Eloise – it’s probably not a good idea to opt for a trench coat that is the same cherry red color of the Corvette bought during the beginning throes of a midlife crisis; but I can’t help it. The Fendi Cotton Babydoll Trench is simply calling my name, and, I’m sorry to admit, I plan on answering.

When I think of a true detective trench coat, this Church & State Maine Trench Coat is exactly what comes to mind. The fact that the bib is removable and the button closure is reversible gives it a two-in-one appeal. But aside from those glorious features, I just want to see it tossed over a chic little spring dress and paired with ankle strap ballerina flats. I can’t help but feel that it would be an adorable pairing.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I may slowly be falling in love with military styles. Case in point, this Burberry Empire Trench. The bodice alone is a full-on tribute to the military with a double breast that includes not three, not six, but ten (count them) ten chunky (and chic) horn buttons – and that’s not all. This adorable dove-colored offering also features pockets and buttoned cuffs. I know this may be wrong, but I’m not sure if I would treat this as a coat – it’s a complete outfit in itself!

I saw someone wearing this Lauren Jeans Co. Denim Belted Trench Coat just the other day. I fell in love with it then, and I’ve fallen in love with it all over again now. I love, love, love the contrasting stitching; but the fact that it’s denim – yet looks completely sleek, chic, and magnifique paired with black, white, or any other color imaginable – makes me need, need, need it.

I honestly don’t think it’s appropriate for any girl to go through life without a little lace in her closet. Therefore, this Rampage Lace-Trim Trench Coat is kind of a necessity in my book. The lace trim provides an otherwise oftentimes masculine look with a little dainty femininity that is sassy, sweet, and fierce all in one.

Bicycle Love

Aside from sweet lemonade, what does summer mean to you? To me it means a street cruiser bike complete with a wicker or wire basket attached to the front, and knee-skimming flirty frocks that make it simple to dangle your bare feet in newly-discovered bodies of water, or chase butterflies in vacant flower fields. I think I’ve found the best of both worlds. The Ruffled Bicicletta Tank Dress from Fred Flare is not only adorned with gold-trimmed ruffles, but features an old-fashioned bicycle print. The end-result is possibly the most darling, the most charming, the most divine creation imaginable. I could see myself having so many wonderful times in this clever little gem.

Bubble Pop Electric

When my mother was a child she convinced her parents to paint her stark white bedroom walls a lovely shade of lavender. After a few years she was thoroughly disgusted with the color and spent as few waking hours in the bedroom as possible. Somehow I don't think that my reaction to bubblegum pink walls would be the same. In my opinion, this is the stuff cotton candy dreams are made of. Besides, if Barbie and Betsey Johnson are able to survive in pink splendor, so can I!

Cat Lady

I'm currently playing the part of foster mother to a few cuter than cute kittens, which, when you think about it, essentially makes me a cat lady - at least temporarily. I know this is a title that many steer clear of; but I truly don’t mind it. As long as I’m able to dress (and accessorize) the part, that is. Do you remember when you were growing up and your grandmother would knit you sweater after sweater for just about every imaginable holiday? Sweaters that your parents forced you to wear to school even though the other kids on the bus would laugh and point their fingers at the crazy colors and loose ends? The Paul & Joe Sister Cat Sweater is reminiscent of those gifts from grandma – except for the fact that it is actually adorable, and something that you certainly wouldn’t need to be forced to wear. The cream color is the perfect backdrop to the bow-adorned gray kitty whose big sad eyes just scream for a hug – much like my own tiny charges. I realize that most wallets nowadays come complete with a change compartment, but they always seem too small to hold more than a few pennies; which is why I am enlisting the help of this Pretty Pet Coin Purse. The kitty face is simply a decal, but her bright red bow is fabric, and comes complete with a realistic red jewel. It’s certainly the perfect accompaniment to the aforementioned sweater, or any outfit that needs a hint of metallic glamour! Costume jewelry is so much fun – especially when it’s as childlike as this Fancy Cat Necklace. The best part? The muted colors give it a vintage vibe, while the Kid Pirate original illustration provides a sense of irresistible whimsical innocence to the piece. When I adopted my first cat, Sassy, I was three months shy of eight, and she was a five-week-old ball of fluff who was showered with love, kisses, and attention from the moment she was placed in my arms. I dressed her up in doll clothes – a pink and white pinafore jumper, if I remember correctly – and pushed her in doll carriages. Sassy is still with me today, and this lovely little painting from MiKa Art Blog reminds me of all of the wonderful times we’ve had together. This would be the most darling piece of art to hang in a brightly decorated living room. Have you ever experienced one of those moments around the dinner table where there is dead silence, and the only thing audible is the sound of utensils hitting porcelain plates? I don’t think that moments like this would even be possible if you had these Jonathan Adler Salt & Pepper Cats sitting front and center on your dining room table. They add such a kitschy, unconventional feeling to dining room tables and kitchens alike that is undeniably purrfect. Since we're on the topic of cats, I thought I'd toss in Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron for good measure. I haven't read it yet, but I'm a firm believer in the fact that no library or bookstore is complete without a furry friend traipsing up and down the aisles. I can’t tell you how much it irks me when people pop over for a visit or a quick chat wearing the most perfect, the most amazing, the most irresistible outerwear on the planet, hang it on your coat rack, then promptly grab it on their way out before even offering you the chance to try it on for a mere minute. Which is why I am convinced that I simply cannot live without this Writing on the Wall Coat Rack from Urban Outfitters. In my eyes, this wall hanging gives you the freedom to swipe whatever tickles your fancy. After all, if someone really loves their coat, they would hang on to it for dear life, and if they're impartial to it, and uncaring of it disappearing, well, I guess it's up for grabs!

One thing I learned yesterday is if you’ve never had cappuccino before, don’t indulge in 32 oz. of it in one sitting. I made that mistake myself and am still feeling the after effects.
