Romancing Republic

Darlings, while I can’t exactly proclaim that I am paid for such expertise (though, obviously, I wish I could!); I have quite the knack for entering any store imaginable – of the style variety, that is – and emerging having found at least one blissful blouse, sassy skirt, tantalizing tank, or seductive pair of stilettos. My one design dilemma, however, comes in the form of dresses.

It is not that I don’t love dresses, mind you; rather, it is dresses which appear to dislike me. The ones I adore swallow my petite frame whole, transforming styles that looked stunning on the sales rack into billowing, boxy aesthetics reminiscent of oversized nightgowns or house dresses; whereas the ones which are less than stellar always manage to fit me to a T – much to my chagrin, of course. Needless to say, I imagine I won’t have the same problem with the eye-catching creations I’ve found at Republic.

Pages and pages of fabulous frocks hover right before your very eyes; each one more glamorous than the last. Crafted Lace Dresses similar to a style that Blair Waldorf would gladly don during a family dinner full of piercing gazes and snarky commentary; Denim Dungaree Dresses quite like that seen upon the lanky form of Alexa Chung; polka-dotted pretties proffering retro detailing and simply screaming to be paired with lace up espadrilles; and, my personal favorite, flirty florals like the Miso Daisy Dress ideal for an afternoon stroll in the park, lace-trimmed parasol held high overhead.

Love is in the air, kitty cats!

Fashionably yours!

Thanks to Republic for the picture.

I love how many ways you can find to describe a dress! I think you've inspired me to put one on!

I'm with you though...dresses can be maddening on us short gals! I purchased 2 last fall without trying them on...MISTAKE! Both were returned the very next day!

I feel the same way about dresses, and find that the ones that do work are of a very tailored design.

I love your writing! Dresses can be hard. They often don't look the same on me as they do on the hanger, which is so frustrating!

I have the same problem. I can never find a dress that's cut short enough to actually look like a NORMAL length on me. I'm sifting through that website right now though.. and they have some CUUUTE picks! Let me know if you ever find dress success!

Ditto! My shortness make me look so weird in dresses. But I always take inspiration from Audrey Hepburn. She rocked a dress like none else.

Cute dresses! I'm so into florals this season, but it can be hard to find a flattering floral pattern for dresses. Thx for the link!

I have the opposite problem. Dresses look pretty good on my pear shape figure. However, I like the no nonsense of trousers versus the frilliness of dresses :)

Thanks for the beautiful comment you left me, Erika! I'm so happy to have met you via this blogging venture! I look forward to the day when we'll finally be able to meet -because I'm sure we will ;o) -in the future! I know we'll be best of friends!

I agree; dresses are so tricky when you're petite. Mine have to be just the right length and the waist has to hit in the perfect place... I love your pick! Can't wait to check out Republic :)
