Thrifty Thursday: Alexander Wang 'Goddess' Jersey Dress for Less

Darlings, while it may not be etched in stone, it is an unwritten rule of sorts that every girl is entitled to feel like a goddess. She may not find herself stretched out languorously along a gilded chaise longue being fed grapes one by one by cute boys whom cater to her every desire; nor may she be the wearer of a Roman Head Wreath woven of freshly-grown foliage a la Cleopatra, but there is no question about it…goddess is as goddess does. And you, my loves, are all goddesses…just ask Alexander Wang. Or rather, merely feast your eyes upon his ‘Goddess’ Jersey Dress.

Many may try and fail to create an aesthetic which embodies the true beauty of a goddess – from elegant draping to ravishing ruching, and rich hues to clever cuts – but Alexander Wang, as I’m sure you were all aware, succeeds in every manner of the word; bringing a fabulous frock to the forefront which highlights Grecian inspirations of yesteryear juxtaposed with modern midtown decadence – a coupling that is both cosmopolitan and urbane in the very same breath.

The epitome of asymmetric allure; the ‘Goddess’ Jersey Dress is festooned with folds of plum-colored smooth knit that swoop, droop, drape, and flutter in a fashion that follows the movements of your body so that one never knows what shape will be haphazardly created courtesy of your very next step; a charismatic characteristic that forever keeps your many adoring admirers guessing.

But I digress; while undoubtedly fabulous in terms of design, the asking price of $590.00 truly leaves much to be desired – even if you do have the bank account of the Hilton Sisters. Luckily, Victoria has a little Secret she’d like to share with all of us via the One-Shoulder Dress.

Yes kittens, you’ve presumed correctly…the One-Shoulder Dress from Victoria’s Secret lacks the plum hue of its runway-ready predecessor; but at $98.00 apiece, you can scoop it up in both colors – jazzberry and black – and still have enough left over for a stunning pair of strappy sandals!

What’s the verdict, lovelies…will you be thrifty or spend, spend, spend?

Fashionably yours!

this dress is so fabulous! the cheaper version is great...but is it bad that i would rather have the splurge?

I have to go for the Wang. I have gotten some stuff from Victoria's Secret and the quality was terrible. Their bras and stuff are okay, but the clothing was poorly made. The Wang one is overpriced though. x

Wow, they're so similar. I'm always worried about Vickie's clothing though. But both are beautiful and I love the color.

Oh DEFINITELY the VS dress! I actually think I'd even venture to say I like it better!! FAB!

I don't mind the color... it's the style I was looking at and that VS dress is gorgeous as well. So I will definitely go the VS way.

Have a lovely day Erika! xoxo

U have a great eyes for the superb bargain/alternative! :)

OOh - that VS dress is cute. It makes the model look slightly paunchy, so I'd have no chance, but maybe in black!

Alexander Wang please! I love the color and she looks so cute. I love how you always have a cheaper alternative though. It makes fashion so much more accessible.

I love them both but I really love the color on the Alexander Wang one more! You picked a great cheaper option though, and Vicky's merch is pretty fab :)

These look identical, but I bet is more precise on the Alexander Wang version. But maybe I'm biased, I'v never been a fan of the VS clothes. What looks great on Gisell Bundchen never seems to look so great on Maddy :(

Thrifty always for me....=D
they have some great scents there too.

Oh..well, I must admit, I was inspired to write...when the kid showed up in our neighborhood in his werewolf costume..so I had to get him in the story somewhere & of course those horror stories of my baby brother who's now 18, used to bite my Mom. Now you'd never know he was so lethal.

The VS color name alone has got me sold ... Jazzberry! What a happening color, sounds fun :)

That colour on the dresses is so perfect! I think I'll go with the Victoria Secret one: it looks like it'll fit much better.

All I can say is that I want to be a Grecian goddess!!! :)

i actually prefer the colour of the second one!

wow! I guess it would depend on what you needed it for, but I would certainly go for Victoria Secrets since I don't have anything major in mind for the outfit. Very cool!

i like the color of the cheaper dress better.

Oh. I really love jersey dresses. Enough to drop 590 on the Goddess? Ugh, maybe not, but it sure does look divine...

Wow the first model is gorgeous. I'd go with VS though, I can't allow myself 590 on just one dress right now!

Clare said...

Wow this dress is amazing. I would pretty much buy either of these dresses just to have something this amazing in my closet

Tiffany said...

great find! I love the color of the dress. I think I would still stick with the Wang as every one of his pieces that I've tried on just has fantastic construction and fit however, the VS version is so close that it would be a hard choice!

Elle said...

Ooo that plum color is so pretty! But I must be thrifty on this one :)

Leeann @ Join the Gossip said...

While the alternative is a great comparison, I think I'd go with the real one in this case...if I were rich ;) haha

Lisa Lisa Lisa said...

Ooooh pretty pretty. I agree about the goddess theory. I totally deserve to feel like a goddess and so does every woman I know.
When I feel like engaging in some goddess behavior, I put on a strong scent early in the day and a bright lipstick.

Thanks for your fantastic comments =) You are so fabulous.

confession time: i love the hue of the VS one even more!

Midtown Girl said...

Oh Em Gee!! What a great find & from the pics they look almost identical - the color is gorgeous ;-)

MizzJ said...

I'm going with A.Wang on this one! The color is just more jewel-toned and I think the draping is more artistically done. The VS one makes the model look a little tubby.

Susu Paris Chic said...

I'll have to go for the sparing option... After all, a gal should always stay reasonable. I just love the shape and the hue of these golden drops!

Your fashion cupcake instinct never fails my dear!

Oh, I want to feel like a goddess and if it needs 600 quid to do that, oh well... But your cheaper version is so great that perhaps I could feel heavenly even for under 100? Wishing you a lovely weekend, Erika!

Rachel @ The Haute Notes said...

Both look great, but I'm gonna have to splurge on the Alexander Wang. That dress is to die for!

my goodness! there is barely any difference!
I say the cheaper one :)

Midnight Cowgirl said...

I really like that Alexander Wang dress, but the Victoria Secret dress is such a steal :)

Sarah Whitney said...

Another very similar find! I think I like the color of the splurge better tho. It reminds me of eggplant.. in a good way!

All Women Stalker said...

Interestingly, the ruching of the cheaper dress looks so much better :)

Angela said...

wow they both look so good. I will need to try both on to see which fits better. Sometimes I find the more expensive piece does not necessarily work out better.
