Thrifty Thursday: Wink Lee Satin Blazer on a Budget

I’m going to blame my current aggravated state on the sheer fact that I have been more than unsuccessful in locating the perfect boyfriend blazer – one that is fitted yet looks as if it was stolen right out of your cute boy’s closet; one that juxtaposes flawlessly between masculinity and femininity; one that is ideal for a night out with the girls or an afternoon at the office. My searches for such fabulosity have fallen flat and left me devoid of all of the above. The only thing I seem to find in droves are unflattering cuts, drab hues, and shoulders reminiscent of a linebacker.

Please don’t laugh darlings; I know it sounds humorous, but after five months of spotting disaster after disaster, I simply want to find something that embodies each and every specification and requirement that I have formed in my mind. And I have. Finally I have found the blazer that makes my heart skip a beat; that sends warm tingles throughout my body; that makes me feel as if I’m floating on cloud nine. Wink’s Lee Satin Blazer is my new fashion fixation.

Everything about Lee makes her a piece of finery that I simply can’t be without, from the princess seams to her pleating about the shoulders; the single-button closure to the notched collar; even the word used to describe her shade…Elephant. There are no stiff materials here, Lee is fabricated entirely of the most decadent, shimmering Silk Charmeuse which gleams, beams, and brightens the room the moment she appears; while she virtually winks at passersby in a flirty, coquettish type of way whenever light so much as hits her form. Lee is a breath of fresh air; a bubbly, effervescent accoutrement with the ability to transform your wardrobe; a sparkling soul sister created to make you a modern-day belle of the ball. Unfortunately, at $286.00, she is also well outside the realm of my, ahem, college student budget. Aqua’s Satin Boyfriend Blazer, however, is not.

At $128.00, Aqua’s Satin Boyfriend Blazer, which is available in three shimmering shades (cinder, black, and blush), is the preemptive way for the girl on a budget to get her dose of sparkling champagne-toned fashions – much like those seen on the S/S 2010 runways for Burberry Prorsum and Dennis Basso – without being forced to subsist solely on Ramen noodles and peanut butter for the next six months. Put in simpler terms, it’s a piece that will dress up your wardrobe, without dressing down the contents of your wallet; and who can really resist that?

So mes chéris, what are you up to today? Will your AmEx take a beating with a splurge, or will you stay safe and thrifty with a frugal buy?

Fashionably yours!

These satin blazers remind me of my post yesterday on Olivia Palermo's topshop satin blazer. I wonder if everyone will be wearing them. =) I'm not sure if I could pull off a satin blazer myself. I'm sure I would feel like I was wearing pajamas.

I know what you mean about finding the perfect boyfriend blazer. All the good ones are $500 and that seems ridiculous to me. I love that Aqua brand that bloomingdales carries though. They seem to have a lot of cute stuff at reasonable prices. Great post!

I am forever looking for the perfect boyfriend blazer too. That Aqua blazer is worth checking out except that I am not into satiny fabrics.

I am a little suspicious of all these boyfriend styles that are in right now. I just came to terms with the boyfriend jeans concept, but a blazer... uh, oh. The satin one looks adorable, though - it has that feminine touch that is much needed for any bf piece!

So gorgeous! I will splurge and buy them both!

I am also having a hard time finding the right BF blazer. I found a decent one at NY&Co but it was way too overpriced, and I know it will go on sale. I love that the color is "Elephant", how creative. Sometimes the names of the colors make you want to buy the item even more!

Everyone looks so great in bf blazers, but I can't find the perfect one either. Although, the thrifty option this week is gorgeous. I definitely prefer the style and colour.

"shoulders reminiscent of a linebacker"

HAHA exactly why I have yet to embrace this trend, but dude I want to so bad! I am loving the Aqua...and at 128, it won't ruin my bank account...I think I might get it in black.

OK but seriously, I have boobs and I don't want them to look bigger EVER because they make me look larger than I am...and I digress...what are your thoughts on blazers with boobs? :)

The satin blazers are GORGEOUS! I love that light pink one. It looks comfortable too. :)

ahaha i love your posts, they're always so funny and thoughtful. i agree, finding that perfect blazer on a budget is quite a challenge despite what everyone thinks. i saw olivia on the city (yes i watch that) wear something similar and a silver one is definitely my next coveted item. i'm glad your search lead to happy results!!

Definitely so hard to find the perfect blazer! I don't think I can pull off the satin, but I have a suede-type one which is so comfy! Love these finds, though :)

I haven't really spotted a BF blazer I liked either. These are a fantastic option and so much chicer! They're also not to masculine... I mean, if any boyfriend actually had a blazer like this, I'd be a little concerned ;-)

I actually love the second jacket the best. It is gorgeous, and does not look to masculine by staying soft. Also, the color is fabulous and can go with so many different clothes. ;) Great blog today, doll.

$128 is still a lot, though...I say continue looking for cheaper and equally fabulous pieces. :D

I know what you mean, I've been looking for the perfect blazer for forever! Though both of these blazers, sadly, are a bit too much for my budget =( But I'm going thrifting Saturday, so perhaps I can find a gem amidst it all!

I'm officially in love - these blazers are TO DIE FOR. I love anything skiny and sleek.

And yes, we might as well be soul sisters...we are so much a like. In fact, I just finished a tootsie pop :)

The only solution is: let's find the perfect boyfriend, with the perfect bank account and perfect clothes. Then lots of $ stays in our piggy banks! ;) I know, I should come down to earth.

Oh wow! I feel exactly like you do. I keep seeing girls dressed with super nice blazers but every time I try one I look horrendous on it. I can not find one that works on me. I even tried my husbands but they are extremely big.

The pink satin jacket is my favorite. I definately prefer a satin boyfriend blazer than the other ones they have out now. It dresses them up and gives it that girly edge that they need. I agree they dont seem to look so great on me either.

diamondsinchampagne said...

They look great, however they would need to be constructed perfectly to look right and i'm guessing that would cost a little bit of cash unfortunatley :(
